Gender Violence in the Film Posesif by Gina S. Noer and its Relevance as Indonesian Language Teaching Material

Violence against women encompasses any kind of behavior that inflicts physical, sexual, or psychological damage against women. This study investigates the narrative structure of Gina S. Noer's film "Possessive," explores gender-based violence through the lens of feminist studies, and analyzes its significance to Indonesian language education. This research employs a descriptive-qualitative approach. We use an integrated and case study research methodology. This research investigates the film "Possessive" directed by Gina S. Noer, with a specific emphasis on the themes of gender-based violence and narrative structure. This research focuses on the portrayal of gendered violence against women in Gina S. Noer's film "Possessive" and its narrative structure. This inquiry used the film "Possessive" and literary literature. Information was gathered via library research. Data was confirmed using triangulation. Data analysis employs heuristic and hermeneutic approaches to interpret semiotic models. The research revealed that Gina S. Noer's film "Possessive" revolves on themes of love and violence, the narrative structure, the characters of Lala and Yudhis, as well as Lala's domestic and professional environment. Gina S. Noer's film "Possessive" depicts a total of five instances of verbal violence, three instances of psychological violence, three instances of physical violence, and three instances of power-based violence. (3) The findings of this research may be used to develop comprehensive Indonesian language teaching materials for high school students, including language, psychology, and culture.

Designing Aesthetic and Visual Perception Textbook in Photography: Integrating Theory and Practice for College Students

The textbook for the course of Aesthetics and Visual Perception in Photography was developed to address the lack of available reference books for the subject at the Politeknik Negeri Media Kreatif. The objective of this textbook is to provide comprehensive and structured teaching materials on aesthetics and visual perception in photography, enabling students to understand and apply these principles in their photographic works. The research methodology involved literature study, data collection, textbook design, testing, and evaluation. The creation of this textbook benefits students by facilitating their learning and comprehension of the subject matter, while also offering a comprehensive and structured reference on aesthetics and visual perception in photography. The research was conducted over a period of approximately nine weeks. It is expected that this textbook will serve as a solution to the lack of reference materials and assist students in understanding and applying the principles of aesthetics and visual perception in photography. The results of this research indicate that aesthetics and visual perception play a vital role in creating captivating and meaningful photographs for the viewers. The integration of theory and practice within the textbook aids students in developing their photography skills more effectively.

Pediatrician perspectives on barriers and facilitators to discharge instruction comprehension and adherence for parents of children with medical complexity.

High rates of posthospitalization errors are observed in children with medical complexity (CMC). Poor parent comprehension of and adherence to complex discharge instructions can contribute to errors. Pediatrician views on common barriers and facilitators to parent comprehension and adherence are understudied. To examine pediatrician perspectives on barriers and facilitators experienced by parents in comprehension of and adherence to inpatient discharge instructions for CMC. We conducted a qualitative, descriptive study of attending pediatricians (n = 20) caring for CMC in inpatient settings (United States and Canada) and belonging to listservs for pediatric hospitalists/complex care providers. We used purposive/maximum variation sampling to ensure heterogeneity (e.g., hospital, region). A multidisciplinary team designed and piloted a semistructured interview guide with pediatricians who care for CMC. Team members conducted semistructured interviews via phone or video call. Interviews were audiorecorded and transcribed. We analyzed transcripts using content analysis; codes were derived a priori from a conceptual framework (based on the Pediatric Self-Management Model) and a preliminary transcript analysis. We applied codes and identified emerging themes. Pediatricians identified three themes as barriers and facilitators to discharge instruction comprehension and adherence: (1) regimen complexity, (2) access to the healthcare team (e.g., inpatient team, outpatient pediatrician, home nursing) and resources (e.g., medications, medical equipment), and (3) need for a family centered and health literacy-informed approach to discharge planning and education. Next steps include the assessment of parent perspectives on barriers and facilitators to discharge instruction comprehension and adherence for prents of CMC and the development of intervention strategies.

Reading Comprehension in the Medical Education Curriculum during the covid 19: A global Perspective

The coronavirus caused the global effect of the COVID-19 pandemic, which began in early 2020. Due to the emergence of various infectious illnesses, it is essential for medical students to possess the skills to investigate and treat them. Therefore, it is essential for medical students to peruse the materials provided by the World Health Organisation in order to get a comprehensive understanding of the many symptoms associated with the recently emerged illness, as well as the need for early detection and prevention. Hence, the objective of this study is to emphasise the significance of medical students engaging with novel sources of information and how their proficiency in doing so, whether effective or ineffective, is contingent upon their reading comprehension strategies. Many medical students globally lack sufficient understanding of the recommended infection control practices. Their reading impairments also hindered their comprehension of their medical condition, resulting in delayed diagnosis and inadequate use of preventive medications. The study findings show that, due to the limited scope of medical education programmes, the curriculum for medical colleges did not provide comprehensive instruction on reading comprehension techniques. Currently, there is a lack of comprehensive academic literacy training for medical research in these curricula. Thus, anyone pursuing a medical education should acquire knowledge by studying the resources provided by the World Health Organisation.

Optimization of Teaching Design for 'Chinese Tax System' Based on the Integration of Law and Business Background

This paper proposes a course design plan for "Chinese Tax System" based on the integration of law and business in response to the demand for tax talent training and the characteristics of the "Chinese Tax System" course. In light of the current teaching design issues, this paper emphasizes the need for practical teaching, including interdisciplinary comprehensive teaching, field trips and visits, as well as information technology-assisted teaching. Additionally, it suggests updating textbooks and curriculum settings, emphasizing the practical application and ability cultivation, interdisciplinary and comprehensive characteristics, as well as fostering students' innovative awareness and practical abilities. Furthermore, innovative teaching methods such as legal case analysis, business simulation exercises, interactive discussions and debates, and innovative project design are proposed. Lastly, a multi-faceted assessment method is recommended, including comprehensive ability assessment, classroom performance assessment, and professional ability assessment. The implementation of these teaching design optimization plans will help improve students' understanding and application abilities of the "Chinese Tax System" course, promote their comprehensive development and enhance their capabilities, providing guidance and reference for the cultivation of high-quality tax professionals.

“Let’s Move on to the Recommendations.” The Use of Phrasal Verbs in Business Presentations of University Students in Hong Kong

Phrasal verbs (PVs), as a notoriously difficult L2 feature, have attracted the attention of applied linguists for a few decades. Empowered by corpus linguistics, the current study explored the quantity and quality of PVs in business presentations of university students in Hong Kong, to investigate nuances of the PV production of students in contexts. The learner corpus consists of twenty business case study presentations by 36 mixed-L1 students. Quantitative results showed that students used a sizeable number of PVs accurately. The most common lexical verbs showed a different pattern compared with native speakers of English, while the most common adverbial particles were mostly identical to those used by native speakers. International students seemed to use more PVs than Chinese L1 students and the avoidance phenomenon was observed on a few PVs. The unnatural PV use mostly stemmed from misuse of the adverbial particles due to negative L1 transfer and two instances of creative PV use were observed on English L1 speakers. We advise language teachers to incorporate more comprehensive instruction of PVs in business English courses (including common collocations, syntactic particularities, and polysemy) as well as more authentic L2 exposure.

A systematic review of the effectiveness of reading comprehension interventions in the South African multilingual context

ABSTRACT International comparative measures show that South Africa has extremely low standards in reading. A variety of programmes aimed at boosting reading have been developed, however, the effectiveness of these programmes is unclear. Prior reviews of effective reading instruction practices have focused almost exclusively on learners whose first language and language of instruction is English. This paper reviews evidence from 17 intervention studies which focused on the teaching of reading comprehension in the distinctive multilingual context of South Africa. Although in line with prior reviews, we found some evidence that reading strategy instruction including vocabulary development are features of successful interventions alongside effective teacher education and resourcing of reading. These findings remained inconclusive due to variability in the quality of research, considerable methodological variations of the studies and the limited number of studies. Research in this field requires a more rigorous scientific approach to improve the evidence base.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: INCLUSIVE PRACTICES IN THE TRAINING OF EDUCATORS FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION

The study highlights Special Education as a comprehensive teaching modality, which encompasses all levels, stages and educational modalities. It focuses on Specialized Educational Assistance (AEE), providing resources, services and guidance to improve the teaching and learning process in regular classrooms. According to educational policy, Special Education must be implemented in all teaching contexts, aiming to serve students with disabilities, pervasive developmental disorders (TGD) or high abilities/giftedness.The current approach emphasizes the coexistence and collaboration between Special Education and regular education, moving away from the previous substitutive vision. In this sense, the responsibility for the education of students with disabilities, TGD or high abilities/giftedness is shared between the regular class teacher, responsible for the curriculum, and the teacher specializing in AEE, responsible for creating conditions that meet the specific needs of these students. This approach seeks to overcome barriers to promote inclusive education, ensuring not only access and retention, but also the effective learning of these students, integrating them in a meaningful way in common classrooms. From this new perspective, Special Education is no longer seen as a substitute alternative to regular education, taking on a complementary or supplementary role. This implies a change in the understanding of the role of the specialist teacher, who now works together with the regular class teacher to ensure inclusive and effective education.

Medical Students' Perception of Pathology in Saudi Arabia.

Pathology is the bridge between basic science and clinical practice. An inadequate perception of pathology leads to an incomplete understanding of diseases, which consequently affects its management. This study aims to identify medical students' perceptions of pathology in medical colleges around Saudi Arabia and use their feedback to improve teaching strategies. A validated online self-structured questionnaire form was distributed to medical students in basic and clinical years, including private and governmental universities in all regions of Saudi Arabia. The study comprised a total of 476 medical students. It revealed that n = 226 (48%) of the participants were not aware of pathologists' roles, and n = 262 (55%) of students reported that the main reason was insufficient exposure to actual pathology practice. A total of n = 209 (44%) students believed the current teaching methods in the basic years were insufficient to provide clear perceptions of pathology. The majority of participants n = 366 (77%) chose practical sessions as the most effective strategy in teaching pathology. Our study demonstrated that medical students require more engagement in laboratories to improve their perception. We suggest that Saudi medical schools need to deliver more comprehensive and practical teaching methods that reflect the actual practice of pathology.

Cell Patterning Using Magnetic-Archimedes Strategy.

Cell patterning, allowing precise control of cell positioning, presents a unique advantage in the study of cell behavior. In this protocol, a cell patterning strategy based on the Magnetic-Archimedes (Mag-Arch) effect is introduced. This approach enables precise control of cell distribution without the use of ink materials or labeling particles. By introducing a paramagnetic reagent to enhance the magnetic susceptibility of the cell culture medium, cells are repelled by magnets and arrange themselves into a pattern complementary to the magnet sets positioned beneath the microfluidic substrate. In this article, detailed procedures for cell patterning using the Mag-Arch-based strategy are provided. Methods for patterning single-cell types as well as multiple cell types for co-culture experiments are offered. Additionally, comprehensive instructions for fabricating microfluidic devices containing channels for cell patterning are provided. Achieving this feature using parallel methods is challenging but can be done in a simplified and cost-effective manner. Employing Mag-Arch-based cell patterning equips researchers with a powerful tool for in vitro research.

The Development of Online and Offline (O2O) to Create a Teaching Model for Football Courses at the University

Background and Aim: With the continuous development of modern science and technology, information teaching has attracted much attention. Using information technology to promote educational innovation is important research in China's educational reform. Online and offline (O2O) teaching is based on traditional teaching based on the Internet-established teaching mode. This student-oriented teaching model realizes the mix of online and offline teaching. This study was to develop online and offline (O2O) to create a teaching model for football courses in course mates. Methods: 40 teachers and 359 students were selected as samples for this study by a combination of questionnaire survey, expert interview, and special software package, and data were collected. The research process includes a comprehensive survey of the current teaching model. Then, using Delphi consensus to revise the first draft of the O2O football course teaching model. Finally, focus groups and appreciation experts are used to determine the framework k of the O2O football teaching model. Results: The analysis reveals that universities need a comprehensive football teaching model. The proposed O2O teaching model includes six basic elements: theoretical basis, teaching objectives, teaching content, teaching procedures, teaching evaluation, and teaching facilities, and is further divided into 13 secondary elements and 44 tertiary elements. Conclusion: The proposed O2O teaching model provides an innovative teaching model for college football teaching. Combine modern information technology with football teaching to promote the innovation of football education. It is consistent with the idea of China's modernization education reform. This teaching mode is expected to change the traditional teaching mode of football and set a benchmark for the teaching reform of other physical education.

Development of Football Teaching Program for Xi’an Physical Education University Students

Background and Aim: Xi'an Institute of Physical Education may be faced with problems such as unreasonable teaching settings, outdated teaching methods, and imperfect evaluation systems when offering football courses. To improve these problems, schools should pay attention to the flexibility and individuation of the teaching, strengthen the training and introduction of teachers, explore innovative teaching methods, and establish a perfect teaching evaluation system to improve students' football skills and theoretical knowledge reserve. Materials and Methods: The participants of this research were 29 people through purposive sampling. 5 experts to conduct face-to-face interviews to combine programs for the football model framework. 5 IOC inspection specialists to check the validity of the questionnaire. 19 experts to Delphi consensus modify the program for football model framework. 9 experts for a focus group to determine the program for the football model. In this research, Excel software was used to calculate the data of the IOC inspection specialist result and the data of the focus group. The coefficient of variation (CV) and the median were used as the evaluation criteria for screening factors. Results: The analysis indicated the need for a comprehensive system for teaching soccer courses in higher education. The football teaching model contains 4 first-level elements (pedagogical analysis, teaching development, competition, and orientation), which are further divided into 15 second-level elements and 38 third-level elements. Each component addresses a specific outcome goal, emphasizing teaching and learning situations, teaching construction, competition, and cultivation orientation. The proposed outcome-oriented soccer teaching system provides a comprehensive soccer teaching teaching model that integrates sport-specific skills and life-oriented skills. Conclusion: The model is in line with China's national development goals and the educational principle of building moral character and is expected to bring about changes in soccer education at Xi'an Physical Education Academy and set a benchmark for other provinces.

More than the sum of its parts-A constructivist grounded-theory study on specialist palliative care during crises like the COVID pandemic.

The COVID pandemic is an example of a crisis challenging healthcare systems worldwide. The impact of the pandemic on providing high-quality palliative care calls for a deeper understanding of specialist services during crises. This is essential in preparation for further crises. To develop a conceptual understanding of the impact of the pandemic on specialist palliative care as an example for arising future crises. Qualitative interview study across Germany, following a constructivist grounded theory methodology. Eleven semi-structured interviews with experts with overarching knowledge of structures and processes in specialist palliative care between 05-07/2020 and between 02-06/2021, 23 semi-structured interviews with healthcare professionals working in a specialist palliative care setting. The complex system of palliative care provision during crises has properties that cannot be understood as separated parts of the care process. The pandemic led to unique structural and processual challenges characterized by interconnectedness, uncertainty, dynamic, underlying dilemmas, and unclear long-term goal. In response to the pandemic, teams experienced different phases, which enhanced adaption, innovation, and progress within complex care situations. Creative strategy approaches and dynamic responsiveness facilitated innovative development and could lead to long-lasting improvement within services. Availability of information, transparent communication, comprehensible instructions, participation in decision-making, and search for solutions contributed to teams' proactive development throughout the pandemic. Addressing the complex problems in specialist palliative care caused by crises requires system thinking and a learning mindset. This can facilitate teams to overcome the crisis and move forward rather than bounce back to normal.

‘It's like a compass which I use to find direction’: Findings and learning from an evaluation of an App designed to support the teaching of reading comprehension in rural and township schools in South Africa

AbstractSouth Africa has low literacy levels and teachers face multiple challenges in their endeavours to elevate levels of literacy. This is especially prevalent in rural and township schools where teachers face the additional challenges of isolation, limited resources and access to professional development. This article reports on the findings and learning from a preliminary research study which piloted a handheld mobile phone App. This collaborative project, between a university in KwaZulu‐Natal and one in England, aimed to support in‐service and preservice teachers in rural and township settings to use the App to assess and match books to learners' (aged 9–12) stage of reading development in order to facilitate their independent reading and provide teachers with a range of strategies for teaching comprehension that could supplement other professional development available. In‐service teachers (n = 120) and preservice teachers (n = 93) took part in this mixed‐methods study. The main finding from the study was that whilst participants were positive about the App, many did not access the App independently. This article discusses the broader issues, including participants' foundational knowledge and literacy research participation considerations, that may have underpinned this finding in this collaborative Global North and South research.

Sociological Implications of the Acquisition of the Fante Language by Northern Ghanaian Immigrants in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis

The phenomenon of language acquisition among immigrant populations carries significant sociological implications, particularly in multicultural societies where linguistic diversity is prevalent. There are lots of northern Ghanaian immigrants living and working in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis. The acquisition of the Fante language by the immigrants presents interesting socio-linguistic ramifications worthy of scholarly attention. Data was gathered using semi-structured interviews, which were audio-recorded and transcribed verbatim. Data was processed using atlas and analyzed using a thematic analysis approach. The study concluded that immigrants who worked in the markets or stayed in Effiakuma acquired the language faster than those who worked in the formal sector where interaction was largely done in English. Also, the paper concluded with the observation that there are acquisition challenges with the Fante language; and that there is some sociological importance of the language to the immigrants which include commercial, security, amorous relationship and liturgical needs. It was recommended that the Sekondi Takoradi Municipality implement language learning programs specifically tailored to northern Ghanaian immigrants in Effiakuma, focusing on teaching them the Fante language. These programs should be easily accessible and provide comprehensive language instruction to enhance social integration, economic opportunities, cultural preservation, and personal security for the immigrants

How to load your auto carrier. A hybrid packing approach for the auto-carrier loading problem

The distribution of new vehicles is a critical cost factor for automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). While trains are the ideal mode for overland transport, OEMs often opt for road transport via auto carriers due to flexibility reasons or unavailability of rail networks. Auto carriers are specialized trucks equipped with flexible loading platforms. Finding the optimal configuration of platforms can be a difficult task due to passenger vehicles varying in size, shape, and weight. This problem is known as the auto-carrier loading problem (ACLP). The current literature deals with the ACLP on a strategic level with the goal to maximize transport capacities. However, it neglects the resulting increase in operational complexity.In this paper, we present a hybrid packing approach to solve the ACLP on an operational level. Our approach considers the shapes of the vehicles as polygons and incorporates an approximation of continuous rotation by combining a geometric algorithm with a mixed integer model formulation. We aim not only to maximize loading capacities but also to provide instructions for truck drivers on how to arrange the vehicles on the truck. We conduct a proof of concept (POC) with actual auto carriers to verify the feasibility of our approach and to quantify potential benefits for our industry partner. The POC confirms that our approach reliably generates feasible and comprehensive loading instructions. Not only could the implementation of our approach reduce lead times and transportation damages, but in addition, could completely automate the manual load creation process in distribution centers.

Vina-GPU 2.1: Towards Further Optimizing Docking Speed and Precision of AutoDock Vina and Its Derivatives.

AutoDock Vina and its derivatives have established themselves as a prevailing pipeline for virtual screening in contemporary drug discovery. Our Vina-GPU method leverages the parallel computing power of GPUs to accelerate AutoDock Vina, and Vina-GPU 2.0 further enhances the speed of AutoDock Vina and its derivatives. Given the prevalence of large virtual screens in modern drug discovery, the improvement of speed and accuracy in virtual screening has become a longstanding challenge. In this study, we propose Vina-GPU 2.1, aimed at enhancing the docking speed and precision of AutoDock Vina and its derivatives through the integration of novel algorithms to facilitate improved docking and virtual screening outcomes. Building upon the foundations laid by Vina-GPU 2.0, we introduce a novel algorithm, namely Reduced Iteration and Low Complexity BFGS (RILC-BFGS), designed to expedite the most time-consuming operation. Additionally, we implement grid cache optimization to further enhance the docking speed. Furthermore, we employ optimal strategies to individually optimize the structures of ligands, receptors, and binding pockets, thereby enhancing the docking precision. To assess the performance of Vina-GPU 2.1, we conduct extensive virtual screening experiments on three prominent targets, utilizing two fundamental compound libraries and seven docking tools. Our results demonstrate that Vina-GPU 2.1 achieves an average 4.97-fold acceleration in docking speed and an average 342% improvement in EF1% compared to Vina-GPU 2.0. The source code and tools for Vina-GPU 2.1 are freely available accompanied by comprehensive instructions and illustrative examples.
