Focused Team Engagements to Enhance Interprofessional Collaboration and Safety Behaviors among Novice Nurses and Medical Residents.

Team communication remains a challenge in hospital settings. Hospital-based teams are diverse, team composition changes daily, and team members are frequently not co-located. Novice nurses and medical residents entering the workforce during the coronavirus 2019 pandemic experienced higher communication challenges than before and lacked adequate opportunities for interprofessional learning and communication. We evaluated perceptions of safety and communication among novice nurses and medical residents after a 1-hour focused team engagement consisting of an interprofessional virtual simulation and debrief. We conducted a retrospective pre/post survey to measure perceptions of interprofessional collaboration using the Interprofessional Socialization and Valuing Scale. Sixty-eight pediatric nurse residents and medical residents participated in the survey. Overall, the focused team engagements significantly improve participants' perceptions of interprofessional collaboration, with participants showing statistically significant improvement in seven of nine retrospective pre/post survey questions. When analyzing by discipline, nurse residents show stronger gains than medical residents. The interprofessional structured debriefings encourage nurses and medical residents to collaborate and discuss important safety topics away from bedside stressors. After completing the virtual simulation, the outcomes show improved perceptions of interprofessional collaboration and enhanced knowledge of safety techniques.

Variability and Challenges in Pulmonary Rehabilitation Practices across India: Insights from a Nationwide Survey.

Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) is vital for managing chronic respiratory diseases. This study aimed to assess PR practices in India, focusing on quality standards, provider affiliations, service offerings, and structural components. A survey was conducted among Indian cardiopulmonary physiotherapists via WhatsApp, Facebook, and Gmail, covering demographics, structural, process, and outcome quality indicators, and PR delivery challenges. Of 50 respondents, 54% were affiliated with educational institutions, and 46% with private establishments. Significant variability in PR practices was observed, primarily in urban areas. Key challenges included limited awareness, accessibility issues, inadequate interdisciplinary teamwork, and lack of standardization. Structural elements varied, with inconsistent team compositions and uneven resource distribution. Only 36% of centers conducted regular audit meetings, and many lacked essential emergency equipment. The survey highlights the need for standardized protocols and national guidelines to improve PR service consistency and quality in India. Emphasizing multidisciplinary teams, regular audits, and comprehensive data collection can enhance PR delivery and outcomes. Further research is needed to develop robust, evidence-based PR programs across diverse settings in India.

How Does an Integrated Pharmacist Add Value in the Management of Inflammatory Bowel Disease in the Era of Values-Based Healthcare?

The World Health Organization has recommended that the management of chronic diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) should be undertaken using an integrated approach delivered by a multidisciplinary team. Although the composition of an IBD multidisciplinary team has been well described, the inclusion of an IBD pharmacist as a core member has been more recent, with variable uptake within IBD services internationally. While pharmacists continue to play the traditional role of safe prescribing and monitoring of immunosuppressive therapies, their role within the IBD team is rapidly expanding; however, the value, in terms of both clinical outcomes as well as financial savings (where available), which they add to IBD services has been less well described. In this narrative review, we perform a comprehensive evaluation of the literature detailing the expanding roles that IBD pharmacists play and describe opportunities that exist for integrated pharmacists to add value to IBD service delivery. Medication and adherence counseling, immunosuppressive monitoring, uptake of biosimilars, therapeutic drug monitoring, health promotion and prevention appear to be key areas where integrated pharmacists can add the most value to IBD patients and services. In particular, integrated IBD pharmacists can improve patient outcomes via rigorous monitoring pre and post initiation of drug therapies; focused medication counseling; advice on improving adherence; implementation of novel approaches to medication usage, and; strategies to help sustain IBD service delivery. These data can be used to further build a case for those seeking to add pharmacists to their team/services. Future studies should focus on evaluating the impact of an integrated IBD pharmacist on quality-of-care delivery together with the clinical and financial value added to IBD services compared to services that lack an integrated IBD pharmacist role.

Transformational and Transactional Leadership: From the Gender Lens

This paper aims to review the literature on gender differences in leadership styles, focusing on transformational and transactional leadership. The theoretical backgrounds of transformational and transactional leadership and gender differences in leadership style are reviewed. Previous studies have found mixed results regarding the differences and similarities between men’s and women’s leadership styles. Four factors have been found to lead to these results: (1) the context of the study, (2) the evaluator’s identity, (3) team composition, and (4) culture. The paper hopes to shift researchers’ focus from documenting the differences and similarities to exploring and digging deeper into the causes of these differences and similarities. Based on this, the paper suggests exciting directions for future research.

Outcome analysis of the surgical team in open surgical repair of intact abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery.

To analyze how the experience of the surgical team went to impact the outcomes after open surgical repair (OSR) of intact abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs). This is a single-center, observational cohort study with retrospective analysis of all OR for intact AAA performed between 1 January 2010 and 31 December 2022. The primary outcome was survival at 30 days and in follow-up, and a composite outcome of mortality and major complication. The secondary outcome was freedom from aorta-related reintervention. All outcomes were stratified according to the experience of the operating team (surgeons and anesthesiology). We analyzed 103 (7.2%) patients: 97 (94.2%) males and 6 (5.8%) females. The mean age was 76 ± 8 years (range, 55-93). The best possible team composition was present in 52 (50.5%) interventions. The follow-up index was 0.82 ± 0.18 (range, 0.6-1.0). Mean follow-up duration was 59 ± 43 months (range, 0-158). We observed no differences between teams in major complications (best, 17.3% vs mixed, 21.6%; OR: 0.4, P = 0.622), 30 days mortality (best, 0% vs mixed, 5.9%; OR: 7.6, P = 0.118) and composite outcome (best, 11.5% vs mixed, 17.6%; OR: 0.8, P = 0.416). Cox regression analysis identified the best possible team as a protective factor against the need for reintervention (hazard ratio: 0.2; 95% confidence interval: 0.06-0.88, P = 0.032). In our experience, OR of AAA yielded satisfactory results in terms of safety and efficacy independently of the team's experience. A more experienced team may protect against aorta-related reintervention.

Gender Power, the Top Management Team, and Firm Credit Default Risk

This paper considers the impact of the composition of the top management team on the credit default risk of the firm. Finance theory suggests that shareholders prefer higher levels of risk than the risk-averse executives managing the firm. Increasing the influence of female executives may reduce credit default risk, as female executives have been shown to be associated with lower firm risk. Alternatively, as diversity has been shown to improve the quality of group decision-making, a higher but optimal credit default risk may result. This paper uses a matched sample of 6,652 firm-year observations of publicly traded American firms over the period 2010–2020 to investigate the relationship between gender power within the top management team and credit default risk as measured by the Altman Z-score. This paper finds a convex relationship between the Altman Z-score and the influence of female executives. In other words, top management teams where power is shared between female and male executives accept higher levels of credit default risk than teams dominated by just female (or just male) executives. However, this paper also finds that an excessively high credit risk is negatively associated with the influence of female executives.

Nursing Team Composition and Mortality Following Acute Hospital Admission

Many studies show the adverse consequences of insufficient nurse staffing in hospitals, but safe and effective staffing is unlikely to be just about staff numbers. There are considerable areas of uncertainty, including whether temporary staff can safely make up shortfalls in permanent staff and whether using experienced staff can mitigate the effect of staff shortages. To explore the association of the composition of the nursing team with the risk of patient deaths. This patient-level longitudinal observational study was conducted in 185 wards in 4 acute hospital trusts in England between April 2015 and March 2020. Eligible participants were patients with an overnight stay and nursing staff on adult inpatient wards. Data analysis was conducted from month April 2022 to June 2023. Naturally occurring variation during the first 5 days of hospital admission in exposure to days of low staffing from registered nurses (RNs) and nursing support (NS) staff, the proportion of RNs, proportion of senior staff, and proportion of hospital-employed (bank) and agency temporary staff. The primary outcome was death within 30 days of admission. Mixed-effect Cox proportional hazards survival models were used. Data from 626 313 admissions (319 518 aged ≥65 years [51.0%]; 348 464 female [55.6%]) were included. Risk of death was increased when patients were exposed to low staffing from RNs (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR], 1.08; 95% CI 1.07-1.09) and NS staff (aHR, 1.07; 95% CI, 1.06-1.08). A 10% increase in the proportion of temporary RNs was associated with a 2.3% increase in the risk of death, with no difference between agency (aHR, 1.023; 95% CI, 1.01-1.04) and bank staff (aHR, 1.02; 95% CI, 1.01-1.04). A 10% increase in the proportion of agency NS was associated with a 4% increase in risk of death (aHR, 1.04; 95% CI, 1.02-1.06). Evidence on the seniority of staff was mixed. Model coefficients were used to estimate the association of using temporary staff to avoid low staffing and found that risk was reduced but remained elevated compared with baseline. This cohort study found that having senior nurses in the nursing team did not mitigate the adverse outcomes associated with low nurse staffing. These findings indicate that while the benefits of avoiding low staffing may be greater than the harms associated with using temporary staff, particularly for RNs, risk remains elevated if temporary staff are used to fill staffing shortages, which challenges the assumption that temporary staff are a cost-effective long-term solution to maintaining patient safety.

A configurational analysis of university ranking, cognitive ability and cultural intelligence in global virtual teams: The role of academic pedigree

Previous research examining the GVTs with business students from different universities and with different characteristics has begun to reveal significant findings on team compositions leading to team performance. However, few studies have addressed academic pedigree at the team level and examined its relationship with team performance. This study explores the configurations of academic pedigree, cognitive ability (IQ), and cultural intelligence (CQ) that lead to high levels of performance in GVTs. We performed a fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis on a sample of 3688 students nested within 731 GVTs participating in an international project. The results show that three configurations could achieve the same outcome equally and effectively. In particular, two configurations show that IQ and CQ within teams led to high team performance when either the academic pedigree average or the academic pedigree diversity is not high. The third configuration reveals that IQ combined with academic pedigree average and the presence of a team member from a highly ranked institution results in high levels of team performance when academic pedigree diversity is not high. This study offers insights into configurational relationships between team compositions and performance in GVTs, explaining when and if academic pedigree impacts team performance.

Factors influencing nurse practitioner panel size in team-based primary care: a qualitative case study

BackgroundLack of access to health care is a worldwide public health crisis. In primary care it has led to increases in the implementation of nurse practitioners and heightened interest in their patient panel capacity. The aim of this study was to examine factors influencing nurse practitioner patient panel size in team-based primary care in Ontario, Canada.MethodsWe used a multiple case study design. Eight team-based primary care practices including rural and urban settings were purposively selected as cases. Each case had two or more nurse practitioners with a minimum of two years experience in the primary care setting. Interviews were conducted in-person, audio recorded, transcribed and analysed using content analysis.ResultsForty participants, including 19 nurse practitioners, 16 administrators (inclusive of executives, managers, and receptionists), and 5 physicians were interviewed. Patient, provider, organizational, and system factors influenced nurse practitioner patient panel size. There were eight sub-factors: complexity of patients’ health and social needs; holistic nursing model of care; nurse practitioner experience and confidence; composition and functioning of the multidisciplinary team; clerical and administrative supports, and nurse practitioner activities and expectations. All participants found it difficult to identify the panel size of nurse practitioners, calling it— “a grey area.” Establishing and maintaining a longitudinal relationship that responded holistically to patients’ needs was fundamental to how nurse practitioners provided care. Social factors such as gender, poverty, mental health concerns, historical trauma, marginalisation and literacy contributed to the complexity of patients’ needs. Participants indicated NPs tried to address all of a patient’s concerns at each visit.ConclusionsNurse practitioners have a holistic approach that incorporates attention to the social determinants of health as well as acute and chronic comorbidities. This approach compels them to try to address all of the needs a patient is experiencing at each visit and reduces their panel size. Multidisciplinary teams have an opportunity to be deliberate when structuring their services across providers to meet more of the health and social needs of empanelled patients. This could enable increases in nurse practitioner panel size.

Approaches in care for people with variations of sex characteristics—focus groups in the European context on the strengths and challenges of multidisciplinary teams

Abstract Background New guidelines in the Consensus Statement on Management of Intersex Disorders by the Lawson Wilkins Pediatric Endocrine Society/European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology Consensus Group 2006 introduced multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) to provide care that involves collaboration between healthcare professionals, parents, and children with variations of sex characteristics (VSC). Aim The aim of this study was to examine a neglected but important field of collaboration among healthcare professionals and peer support groups who provide care for people with VSC. Outcomes The study outcome was the information obtained regarding the actual composition and collaboration of the multidisciplinary teams caring for children with VSC, including their collaboration with parents, peer support groups, and other care providers. Methods In this study we used an exploratory qualitative design based on mixed focus groups (in terms of professional background) and reflexive thematic analysis. Semi-structured focus group interview guides were used to obtain information about the participants’ viewpoints on the composition and challenges of, and collaboration between, peer support groups and members of multidisciplinary teams working to care for children with VSC and their parents. Seven focus groups were conducted with healthcare professionals and peer support groups in care teams in Central, Northern, and Western Europe. The data from the focus groups were examined using reflexive thematic analysis. Results The participants in the focus groups provided information regarding the use of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary child- and family-oriented approaches and the strengths and challenges of collaboration and peer support groups. The results showed that the teams used a predominantly multidisciplinary approach and suffered from a lack of psychosocial providers, poor collaboration with peer support groups, and poor implementation of shared decision-making to address the clinical uncertainty of parents and people with VSC. Clinical Implications Clinicians should provide more psychosocial support and improve collaboration with peer support groups and nonmedical professionals. Strengths and Limitations This study is one of the first qualitative studies to provide information on the collaboration of multidisciplinary teams working to provide care for children with VSC and collaborate with their parents in the European context. However, due to language barriers, the dropout rate of participants, and the under-representation of peer support groups in the sample there was a lack of information on collaboration among healthcare professionals and peer support groups. Conclusions The collaboration between MDTs and parents does not involve adequate psychosocial and peer support or shared decision-making to address the uncertainty experienced by children and families when faced with information about variations of sex characteristics.

Educational heterogeneity of the founding team of innovative start-ups: confirmations and denials

This paper focuses on the value drivers of innovative start-ups (ISUs). Few companies can overcome the start-up stage; often, the early performance is insufficient, and the potential contribution of innovation to economic development is very poor. Studies based on a firm-level perspective show mixed results on the factors affecting the growth of ISUs. Most studies emphasize the role of “external” drivers of ISUs growth, while more knowledge is required of “internal” drivers. Consequently, this research focuses on the relationship between the features of the founding teams and the early performance of ISUs. Specifically, it concentrates on education heterogeneity and analyzes whether the heterogeneity of the founding team in terms of educational level (vertical heterogeneity) and field of studies (horizontal heterogeneity) affects the Italian ISUs performance. Growth regression and unconditional quantile regression models confirm the prior literature: the educational level affects the performance and the vertical heterogeneity in the composition of the founding team is relevant for ISUs performance. However, the results also suggest interesting denials: horizontal heterogeneity does not play any role, and no moderating effect of heterogeneity is shown. These findings are strongly attractive for new ventures and policymakers.

Care models for individuals with chronic multimorbidity: lessons for low- and middle-income countries

BackgroundPatients with multiple long-term conditions requires understanding the existing care models to address their complex and multifaceted health needs. However, current literature lacks a comprehensive overview of the essential components, impacts, challenges, and facilitators of these care models, prompting this scoping review.MethodsA scoping review was conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-analysis Extension for Scoping Reviews guideline. Our search encompassed articles from PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, SCOPUS, and Google Scholar. The World Health Organization’s health system framework was utilized to synthesis the findings. This framework comprises six building blocks (service delivery, health workforce, health information systems, access to essential medicines, financing, and leadership/governance) and eight key characteristics of good service delivery models (access, coverage, quality, safety, improved health, responsiveness, social and financial risk protection, and improved efficiency). Findings were synthesized qualitatively to identify components, impacts, barriers, and facilitators of care models.ResultsA care model represents various collective interventions in the healthcare delivery aimed at achieving desired outcomes. The names of these care models are derived from core activities or major responsibilities, involved healthcare teams, diseases conditions, eligible clients, purposes, and care settings. Notable care models include the Integrated, Collaborative, Integrated-Collaborative, Guided, Nurse-led, Geriatric, and Chronic care models, as well as All-inclusive Care Model for the Elderly, IMPACT clinic, and Geriatric Patient-Aligned Care Teams (GeriPACT). Other care models (include Care Management Plus, Value Stream Mapping, Preventive Home Visits, Transition Care, Self-Management, and Care Coordination) have supplemented the main ones. Care models improved quality of care (such as access, patient-centeredness, timeliness, safety, efficiency), cost of care, and quality of life for patients that were facilitated by presence of shared mission, system and function integration, availability of resources, and supportive tools.ConclusionsCare models were implemented for the purpose of enhancing quality of care, health outcomes, cost efficiency, and patient satisfaction by considering careful recruitment of eligible clients, appropriate selection of service delivery settings, and robust organizational arrangements involving leadership roles, healthcare teams, financial support, and health information systems. The distinct team compositions and their roles in service provision processes differentiate care models.

Bringing the Value Chain for High-Impact Weather Warnings into the Classroom

Abstract University students can learn about weather warnings and contribute to a database for the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) project on value chain approaches to evaluate the end-to-end warning chain. The project offers students a way to understand how information about high-impact weather is created, shared, and used within a complete warning system for a selected event. Their contributions are intended to inform researchers and practitioners on what has and what has not worked well in the warning process. The students use a structured questionnaire designed to collect information on observations, forecasting, hazards, impacts, warning communications, and responses.

Not all MDTs are created equal: international survey of HPB MDT practices

BackgroundIn order to identify opportunities to streamline hepatopancreaticobiliary (HPB) multidisciplinary teams (MDT) for cancer care, it is important to first document variability in MDT team practices worldwide. We aimed to develop a comprehensive checklist of parameters to evaluate existing practices and guide the development of MDTs for new cancer services. MethodsParticipants were recruited via the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (IHPBA) and European-African HPB Association (E-AHPBA) and emailed an anonymised online survey. The survey comprised 29 questions, including a combination of closed-ended and open-ended questions. Responses were analysed using descriptive statistics and inductive content analysis. ResultsAnalysing 72 responses from 31 countries, we found substantial variations in HPB MDT practices across regions. Notable variability was found in core team composition, chairing practices, caseload planning, information practices and MDT audit practices. Issues impacting efficiency were common to many MDTs. DiscussionMDT care is understood and applied differently across the world. There is a lack of standardisation of practice, and an apparent need for better case preparation, effective specialist contribution, improved audit frequency and metrics to improve performance. It may be valuable to consider human factors while designing MDTs to support team decision processes, minimise errors, and enhance efficiency.

Physics card games to support knowledge organization: design considerations and teachers’ attitudes

Despite the positive effects of gamification on student motivation and learning outcomes, there are still widespread concerns that ‘playing games is merely fun’ and have no added value, thus making teachers hesitate about incorporating games into their teaching. This paper describes Phys-Cards games, designed as a summative hands-on activity that highlights physics concepts through a ‘contrast and compare’ task in a game context. The Phys-Cards games were presented in a national network of professional learning communities (PLCs) for high school physics teachers. The teachers first played the games and then reflected on their experiences after they implemented them in their classrooms. Surveys and an analysis of the teachers’ reflections indicated that they valued the Phys-Cards games and reported that the games contributed to students’ conceptual understanding and knowledge organization. However, teachers faced challenges such as team size and composition, how to best monitor different groups, and timing in the instructional sequence. In their discussions during the PLC meetings, the teachers identified the features of the games that best promotedmeaningful collaborative learning and suggested productive ways to incorporate the games into their teaching.

Learning from a crisis: a qualitative study on how nurses reshaped their work environment during the COVID-19 pandemic

BackgroundThe global nursing shortages exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic necessitated a drastic reorganization in nursing practices. Work routines, the composition of teams and subsequently mundane nursing practices were all altered to sustain the accessibility and quality of care. These dramatic changes demanded a reshaping of the nurses’ work environment. The aim of this study was to explore how nurses reshaped their work environment in the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.MethodsA descriptive study comprising 26 semi-structured interviews conducted in a large Dutch teaching hospital between June and September 2020. Participants were nurses (including intensive care unit nurses), outpatient clinic assistants, nurse managers, and management (including one member of the Nurse Practice Council). The interviews were analysed with open, axial, and selective coding.ResultsWe identified five themes: 1) the Nursing Staff Deployment Plan created new micro-teams with complementary roles to meet the care needs of COVID-19 infected patients; 2) nurse-led adaptations effectively managed the increased workload, thereby ensuring the quality of care; 3) continuous professional development ensured adequate competence levels for all roles; 4) interprofessional collaboration resulted in experienced solidarity, a positive atmosphere, and increased autonomy for nurses; and, 5) supportive managers reduced nurses’ stress and improved work conditions.ConclusionsThis study showed that nurses positively reshaped their work environment during the COVID-19 pandemic. They contributed to innovative solutions in an environment of equal interprofessional collaboration, which led to greater respect for their knowledge and competencies, enhanced their autonomy and improved management support.

Using a novel methodology to map Post-COVID services for children and young people in England: a web-based systematic search

BackgroundPost-COVID Condition (PCC), also known as ‘Long COVID,’ refers to persistent symptoms following a coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. The prevalence of PCC in children and adolescents varies, impacting multiple body systems and affecting daily functioning. Specialised paediatric hubs were established in England to address the needs of young individuals with PCC. Additional local services also emerged, yet patients report challenges accessing services. To better understand the landscape of paediatric PCC services, we used a novel methodology using a web-based systematic search.MethodsA web-based search was conducted in July 2023 using DEVONagent Pro. Search terms related to Long COVID and Pediatrics in England. Eligible sources providing information on PCC services for children and young people were included. A supplementary manual search and NHS England Post-COVID Network were also consulted. Data extraction included service location, characteristics, and referral pathways. Population estimates were derived from UK Census data.ResultsAmong 342 identified records, 27 services met eligibility criteria, distributed unevenly across regions. Specialised hubs covered 13 locations, while additional services were concentrated in the South of England and London. Services varied in team composition, age range treated, and support offered. A lack of standardised approaches for paediatric PCC was evident.DiscussionWe used a novel methodology for systematically mapping online resources, providing valuable insights into service accessibility and aiding the identification of potential gaps. We observed geographical disparities in access to paediatric PCC services and the absence of standardised approaches in managing symptoms. Given the challenges faced by young individuals seeking support for their PCC the need for equitable and standardised care became apparent. The study contributes to closing the research-practice gap and calls for further research to identify effective treatments for paediatric PCC, acknowledging the diversity of reported symptoms and the importance of tailored approaches.

Do Gender-Diverse Teams Deliver Better Operational Performance: An Experimental Study

The routines-based approach to operations management emphasizes the role of routines in operational performance. However, little is known about how gender diversity in teams could alter coordination and change behaviors of team members, potentially impacting performance. In this study, we report on two laboratory experiments that induce routines to assess the stability of coordination and adaptability to organizational changes across mixed-gender teams of varying diversity and empirically examine operational performance via routines. Based on frequentist and Bayesian statistical approaches, our findings reveal that compared to other mixed-gender teams, balanced-gender teams (a) attain stability in routines faster, (b) exhibit varying levels of adaptability to internal and external changes, and (c) deliver better economic benefits via resource- and time-efficiencies under normal and change conditions, and this is attributable to their higher pace of routine formation. We find the operational-performance effect more prominent in situations of change than in normal conditions. Alongside our theoretical contributions, our study has several implications for management and effective operations management in terms of team composition, hiring, and staffing decisions.

A scoping review of academic papers on human–lion conflict in Africa

AbstractAdopting a scoping review method, we examined peer‐reviewed academic papers published about human–lion conflict (HLC) (including coexistence) and identified knowledge gaps. We searched papers published between January 1981 and December 2023 using academic databases, with the key terms African lion, human–lion conflict, human–lion coexistence, and human–lion interaction. This produced 485 records, reduced to 137 after using additional criteria. Ninety‐eight papers were focused on lions in Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and Botswana. Ten pan‐African studies were identified in our review. Our inductive analysis identified four themes related to HLC: attitudes and perceptions toward lions, causes of HLC, consequences of HLC, and mitigating HLC. Some limitations identified in systematic reviews of human–wildlife conflict have been addressed in recent years, such as broadening the geographical scale of research. However, some knowledge gaps remain, including a lack of assessment of mitigation strategies and studies on climate changes impact on human–lion conflict. Addressing the knowledge gaps highlighted in this review will require diversifying the disciplinary composition of the research teams and increasing researcher reflexivity.
