The Holy Qur’an, which shaped the world of thought of the society it addressed during its twenty-three years of revelation, is a divine book that touches the lives of its followers down to their daily practices. The subject of this research is the verses that were revealed with the compliance of women in the process of the Qur’an’s revelation. Taking into account the reasons for the revelation of the Qur’an, the subject will be discussed within the framework of certain female sahabahs (companions). Many studies have been conducted on the gender roles of women and men and the value of women at the social level. In the studies conducted in the field of tafsir, it is an undeniable fact that the first period commentators did not give women the value they deserved as a result of living in patriarchal social and traditional conditions and using unfounded information mostly originating from Israeliyat. It is obvious that these devaluations were supposedly made in connection with interpretations such as the flaws that women bring from creation and being a means of sedition. The selection of the verses that were revealed with the compliance of women during the period when the Qur’an was revealed as the subject of the research is to contribute to the studies on this subject due to the increase in negative discourses about women in Islam in recent times. In the research, which was conducted through a literature review method, the verses that were revealed upon the wish of women were approached from a different perspective. The study has been prepared to produce an argument against the approaches that approach the content of the verse ideologically and try to devalue the place of women in Islam according to local culture rather than the verse. This study, which describes how women were brought from a state where they were despised to a position where they could perform their activities in life well by taking their requests into consideration and solving their problems with the Qur’an, will contribute to the studies on ’women’ in the tafsir literature. Knowing the pre-Qur’anic life of the society to which it was revealed is one of the ways to understand the divine address correctly. In order to better understand the arguments presented by the divine address, which has a discourse that gives beings the value they deserve, towards the rights of women, first of all, brief information about the Qur’an’s style of address was given and the situation of women in the ignorance period was mentioned. In order to explain that the wishes of the woman, who finds the value she deserves with the verses, are in harmony with the verses revealed at that moment, first information about the muwafaqaat and the possibility of muwafaqaat is given. It has been tried to explain with the examples given that women have been brought to a position where they can perform their activities in life in a good way by taking into account their wishes and solving their problems with the Qur’an from a state where they were despised and even their vital rights were partially taken away. As a result of the study, it has been concluded that the Qur’an, on the way from jahiliyya to asr al-saadah, values women very much in the sociocultural context, there is no discrimination between men and women, and it contains positive messages about women for beyond history. * This article is the revised and developed version of conference presentation entitled “The Verses on the Consent of the Women in the Process of the Revelation of the Qur’an”, orally delivered at the 4th Turkish Symposium of Social Sciences.
