Teacher-Related Demotivating Factors Reducing Students’ L2 Learning Motivation

This study aims to reveal the factors caused by the teacher that reduce the motivation of the student towards learning Turkish. The findings indicated that demotivating factors were teachers’ instructional styles and teaching skills, teaching method, the teacher's personality, the teacher's attitude, the teacher's behaviors, the teacher's classroom management skills, the teacher's competence, the teacher's commitment to the job. This study theoretically extends previous demotivational measurements and the conceptual frameworks of L2 demotivational factors from English language learning to L2 Turkish learning. Also, It is important in terms of notable pedagogical implications are provided for L2 Turkish educators to reveal the demotivational constructions and to stimulate the motivation of L2 Turkish students. In addittion, It is essential for taking some remedial measures and taking into account the needs and expectations of the students while determining the teaching methods.

Enhancing digital competence of prospective vocational teachers using project-based learning with the technological pedagigical content and knowledge approach

Prospective teachers must prepare students with 21st-century skills using digital technology, known as digital competence. The importance of digital competence for prospective vocational teachers encourages study to develop an innovative instructional model, namely Project Based Learning (PjBL) with the technological pedagogical content and knowledge (TPACK) approach, which focuses on enhancing the digital competence of prospective teachers in vocational education. This research aims to investigate the effect of the PjBL instructional model with the TPACK approach on enhancing the digital competence of prospective vocational teachers. This study used quasi-experimental research in two universities in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The sample used was 102 prospective vocational teachers consisting of 45 prospective teachers in the control class and 57 prospective teachers in the experimental class. The digital competency measurement items include 30 statements. Data analysis in this study used an independent t-test. The results of the independent t-test conclude that there was a significant difference. The results concluded that the post-test digital competency score of the experimental group students increased with a score of 79.19, while the control group 58.39. The practical implication of the application of this model is that educators can apply it to improve the competence of prospective vocational teachers with indicators relevant to the material through learning media creation project activities. Recommendations for further research are to compare the effectiveness of PjBL with various other instructional models with the TPACK approach to develop digital competence of prospective teachers and involve wider samples such as between regions or countries.

Diagnosis of TPACK in Elementary School Teachers: A Case Study in the Colombian Caribbean

Numerous studies support that the development of digital teaching competence is essential in 21st century schools. This paper examines Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) to gain a deeper understanding of ICT integration in teaching. By assessing TPACK, we uncover opportunities to enhance teacher competencies and, consequently, improve student learning. This research evaluated the initial TPACK of primary school teachers from a public school in the Colombian Caribbean. Eight teachers participated in a professional development program based on the Lesson Study (LS) methodology. Adopting an interpretive qualitative approach and a case study for the operational analysis of LS, the findings indicate that teachers, in self-reports and performance-based assessments, highlight high competence in the PK, CK, and PCK domains. This demonstrates their ability to select and adapt effective teaching strategies. They excel in guiding learning and understanding academic content, showcasing a remarkable capacity to adapt to the diverse socioeconomic realities of their students. However, these findings also highlight areas for improvement in developing the technological components of TPACK, specifically TK, TPK, TCK, TPCK, and XK.

Investigating spoken classroom interactions in linguistically heterogeneous learning groups – An interdisciplinary approach to process video-based data in second language acquisition classrooms

Speaking the local language is central for successful integration into society. The teacher's language in second language (L2) classrooms serves as a crucial tool in language learning. Heterogeneity of learners’ language proficiency levels challenges teachers to adapt their language and accompanied instructional behavior. We offer an approach to study language acquisition processes and how teachers adapt their instructional language. This article presents our language-independent guidelines for processing video-based data of classroom interactions and demonstrate their reliability in a German as Second Language (GSL) classroom. These guidelines enable transcriptions of spoken language in noisy environments and detailed annotations of non-verbal classroom behavior. We outline research avenues at the intersection of empirical education research and linguistics that become feasible through these resources focusing on studying (non-)verbal adaptation strategies of teachers for learners at different proficiency levels. Our work directly fosters the interdisciplinary study of teacher-learner interactions, teacher competencies, and language acquisition.

예비유아교사의 잠재적 역량 발전을 위한 마이크로티칭 경험에 대한 이야기

Objectives In this study, micro-teaching was conducted to develop potential teaching competencies of pre-service early childhood teachers, and these experiences were analyzed. Methods For this purpose, micro-teaching was conducted to 10 students among the subjects of early childhood curriculum research and guidance law operated by the Department of Early Childhood Education at a university located in Gyeongsangbuk-do, and their experiences were analyzed. Results As a result of this study, the pre-service early childhood teachers recognized the micro-teaching experience as an activity of personal reflection opportunity, understood their own class activity form, and tried to improve their class activity attitude and teaching skill from the perspective of others. Second, pre-service early childhood teachers were thinking more practically about the meaning of becoming a teacher by breaking away from their subjective perception through microteaching. Third, the improvement process through trial and error showed the possibility that the pre-service early childhood teachers themselves could improve by experiencing several trial and error processes. Finally, the pre-service early childhood teachers were expecting improvement of teaching efficacy through microteaching experience. This shows that it is an opportunity to improve class competencies by having opportunities for peer supervision as well as self supervision. As a result, it was found that pre-service early childhood teachers recognized the micro-teaching experience as an opportunity for personal reflection, an activity based on escape, an improvement process through trial and error, and an expectation for improvement of teaching efficacy. Conclusions This study presents the findings of preservice early childhood teachers taking a semester-long course in early childhood materials research and teaching methods at a university's early childhood education department, which may have implications for future preservice early childhood teacher education.

Objectives The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of human rights awareness, global citizenship awareness, and multi-cultural attitudes of pre-service early childhood teachers on multi-cultural teaching competencies. Methods A questionnaire was conducted on 134 college students enrolled in the department of child education and Early Childhood Education in C. The Cronbach α coefficient was calculated to verify the reliability of the collected data, and Pearson correlation analysis was conducted to examine the relationship between human rights awareness, global citizenship, multi-cultural attitude, and multi-cultural teaching competencies of pre-service early childhood teachers. Multiple regression analysis was conducted to examine the effects of human rights awareness, global citizenship, and multi-cultural attitudes on multi-cultural teaching competencies. Results First, there was a positive and significant correlation between human rights consciousness, global citizenship, multi-cultural attitude, and multi-cultural teaching competencies variables. Second, it was found that multi-cultural attitudes and global citizenship had a significant effect on multi-cultural teaching competencies. Conclusions In order to develop the multi-cultural teaching capabilities of pre-service early childhood teachers, it is necessary to cultivate multi-cultural attitudes and global citizenship, and it is judged that it will provide basic data for the development of related programs.

Learning Management Development Model for Early Childhood Teachers

The purpose of this research is to develop the learning management model of early childhood teachers in Roi Et Province. The sample group includes early childhood teachers is obtained by selecting a simple random sample of the sample 400 people. The tools used in the research include questionnaires assessment form and learning quizzes for Primary teachers. The statistics used in the data analysis include averages, standard deviations, and other factors and linear structural relationship analysis SEM. The results showed that: The development of learning management of early childhood teachers consists of: Teacher Professional Competency (CPT) Teacher Spirit (ST) Inspiration to have a public mind (PM) and learning management behavior (TBT). The element of inspiration to have a public spirit. (PM) It has a direct influence on learning management behavior (TBT) of early childhood teachers at the level of 0.01 with an influence value equal to 0.58. The elements of the model of inspiration for having a public spirit (PM) it has a direct influence on learning management behavior (TBT) of early childhood teachers can be 90.00% and can explain the variability of one other internal latent variable, namely: Inspiration to have a public spirit (PM) 88.00% of which can write structural equations.

Teachers and Parents Perceptions of the 9-Year Compulsory Education Policy in Indonesia

The Nine-Year Compulsory Education Policy in Indonesia aims to enhance access to and quality of basic education for all school-aged children. This study aims to analyze the perceptions of teachers and parents regarding this policy and to identify the factors influencing their views. The research methodology employed includes both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Data were collected through questionnaires and in-depth interviews with teachers and parents in several regions of Indonesia. The analysis techniques used include frequency distribution, percentages and averages to describe teachers' and parents' perceptions of the 9 Year Compulsory Education policy. The results indicate that the majority of teachers and parents support this policy, despite some challenges in its implementation. Factors such as economic conditions, accessibility to education, and the quality of educational facilities influence their perceptions. The recommendations from this study include increased policy socialization, provision of adequate educational facilities, and enhancement of teacher competencies.

Enhancing Pedagogical Competence in Inclusive Early Childhood Education through Interactive Digital Modules: A Pre-Experimental Study

One of the primary challenges in early childhood education (ECE) is ensuring that teachers possess the necessary pedagogical competence to effectively support diverse learners, particularly in inclusive education settings where students with special needs require tailored teaching strategies. This study explores the effectiveness of interactive digital modules in enhancing the pedagogical competence of early childhood education (ECE) teachers in inclusive settings. Using a quantitative pre-experimental design, 70 teachers from 12 inclusive ECE institutions participated in pre-and post-tests to assess their pedagogical skills before and after module exposure. Results show a significant increase in post-test scores, with an average improvement from 50 to 89, confirmed by a paired sample t-test (p < 0.01). The N-Gain analysis revealed a high level of effectiveness, with an average score of 0.78, indicating that the modules substantially improved teacher competencies. However, the lack of a control group limits the study’s ability to attribute improvements solely to the intervention. Other factors, such as previous teaching experience or additional resources, may have influenced the outcomes. Despite this limitation, the findings suggest that interactive digital modules are valuable for advancing pedagogical skills in inclusive education. These results have important implications for teacher professional development, supporting integrating of digital tools into ECE teachers' training programs. Future research should employ more rigorous experimental designs, including control groups, to better isolate the impact of digital modules and investigate their long-term effects on teaching competence and student outcomes in inclusive environments.

Examining the practice of culturally responsive pedagogy in upper primary school mathematics: Perceptions and competencies of teachers in North Wollo zone, Ethiopia

This study aimed to examine the status of culturally responsive pedagogy (CRP) practices among upper primary school mathematics teachers in North Wollo Zone, Ethiopia. To achieve this purpose, the researchers employed a mixed-methods convergent research design. The participants included teachers, students, principals, and department heads. Data were collected from these participants through questionnaires and interviews, and analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative techniques. Results indicated that teachers employed CRP strategies in mathematics instruction on an occasional basis. Furthermore, the results revealed significant correlations between the independent variables—school location, teaching experience, CRP perception, and CRP competency—and the practice of CRP. Notably, teaching experience and CRP competencies were found to positively and significantly predict the dependent variable of CRP practices in mathematics education. These findings underscore the need for teachers to gain teaching experience, enhance their cultural competence, and exchange insights on implementing responsive teaching methods that integrate cultural elements and real-life contexts.

Введение. Рефлексия является важным фактором успешности в различных видах профессиональной деятельности. В рамках педагогики большинство исследований проявлений рефлексии сконцентрировано на высших психологических функциях человека или на формировании рефлексивной компетенции у школьников и студентов. Остается открытым вопрос о сформированности рефлексии в системе общепрофессиональных компетенций у педагогов, в том числе педагогов профессионального образования. Цель. Обоснование значимости рефлексивной компетенции в структуре компетенций педагога. Методы. Библиографический и контент-анализ научных публикаций, посвященных проблемам педагогической рефлексии, систематизация полученных выводов. Результаты. Предложен подход к изучению профессиональной рефлексии педагога как особого комплекса компетенций, приобретающих особую значимость в условиях цифровой трансформации образования. Практическая значимость. Результаты исследования могут быть использованы для дальнейшей разработки проблематики профессиональной рефлексии как инструмента совершенствования педагогической деятельности. Introduction. Reflection is an important factor in achieving success across various types of professional activities. In pedagogy, most studies focus on the higher psychological functions of individuals or on the development of reflective competencies in schoolchildren and students. The issue of the formation of reflective competencies within the general professional skills of teachers, particularly in the field of secondary vocational education (SVE), remains unresolved. The aim of the article is to substantiate the significance of reflective competence within the structure of a teacher’s competencies. Methods. The study employed bibliographic and content analysis of scientific publications dedicated to issues of pedagogical reflection, along with the systematisation of the findings. Results. An approach to studying professional reflection as a distinct set of teacher competencies, which becomes especially crucial in the context of the digital transformation of education, was proposed. Practical Significance. The results of the study can be used to further explore professional reflection as a tool for improving pedagogical practices.

Organization of the Work of the School Physics Room within the Framework of the Research Practice of Future Physics Teachers

Introduction. The authors investigate the problem of professional training of a future physics teacher. The organization of scientific and research training of a future physics teacher requires taking into account the peculiarities of methodological work in the school physics classroom. Methodology. This study reflects the methodological and technological foundations of the scientific and research training of future physics teachers within the framework of the organization and functioning of the school physics room in an educational organization. The article presents the essential characteristics of the scientific and research training of future physics teachers (directions 44.04.01 Pedagogical education, program “Physics. Mathematics”) within the framework of the discipline “School physics room”. Results. A series of research tasks for students performed while working with the school physics classroom in the course of their research activities is described. The criteria for evaluating the physics classroom and the difficulties faced by student trainees are highlighted. Conclusions. The developed set of didactic materials and the proven organization of the course on the discipline “School Physics room” contribute to the formation of professional competencies of future physics teachers.

Development Of Pedagogical Competence of Indonesian Primary School Teachers: Merdeka Learning Implementers

This research describes the development of driving teacher pedagogical competence. This study aims to describe teachers efforts in developing pedagogical competence, supporting and inhibiting factors in developing pedagogical competence for teachers driving Indonesian elementary schools using the IA (Appreciative Inquiry) approach. In this study, the subjects studied were 37 driving teachers in 25 public and private elementary schools in Klaten Regency. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection techniques through observation, interviews, field notes, and documentation. To check the validity of the data, triangulation of sources and research techniques was used. Data analysis techniques using Cresswell's 4-step analysis model. The pedagogical competency profile of driving teachers to explore pedagogical knowledge based on philosophy and psychology of the development of elementary school age children, based on reflective abilities, understanding and resilience of emotional intelligence has shown a fairly good classification for 42.3% of teachers and a good classification for 57.6% of teachers.

Desafíos y competencias docentes en el abordaje de educación inclusiva en Colombia

Introduction: In the contemporary context, inclusive education has acquired significant relevance at a global level, seeking to guarantee access to an excellent education for each student, regardless of their abilities, and promoting an inclusive and diverse environment in educational establishments. Objetive: The central purpose of this review article is to expose some public policies, the use of technology in educational processes, approaches, strategies and methodologies used by teachers to promote inclusive education in Colombia. Method: A methodology based on the interpretive paradigm with a qualitative approach was applied. An exhaustive review of recent literature related to inclusive education was carried out and data recording sheets were used as an instrument for collecting information. Results: Among the findings, the importance of teacher training and interprofessional collaboration stands out to guarantee an inclusive education adapted to the demands of students with disabilities. Conclusion: It is concluded that the strengthening of pedagogical, technological, scientific and ethical competencies in teachers is essential to implement inclusive strategies and promote a respectful and equitable educational environment.

Evidence-based development of an instrument for the assessment of teachers’ self-perceptions of their artificial intelligence competence

AbstractArtificial intelligence (AI) competence in education is a set of skills that enable teachers to ethically and responsibly develop, apply, and evaluate AI for learning and teaching processes. While AI competence becomes a key competence for teachers, current research on the acceptance and use of AI in classroom practice with a specific focus on the required competencies of teachers related to AI is scarce. This study builds on an AI competence model and investigates predispositions of AI competence among N = 480 teachers in vocational schools. Results indicate that AI competence can be modeled as combining six competence dimensions. Findings suggest that the different competence dimensions are currently unequally developed. Pre- and in-service teachers need professional learning opportunities to develop AI competence.

Pendidikan Karakter Religius Melalui Budaya Literasi Al-Qur’an Di Madrasah Aliyah Swasta Amaliyah Sunggal

This study explores the implementation of religious character education through the culture of Quran literacy in Amaliyah Sunggal Private Islamic Senior High School. The main objective of this study is to identify and analyze how the culture of Quran literacy contributes to the formation of students' religious character and its impact on their learning and daily lives. The research method used is qualitative descriptive, involving observation, interviews, and documentation studies. Data analysis begins with data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. Then to ensure the validity of the data, this study uses triangulation in order to increase the accuracy and credibility of the findings. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of the culture of Quran literacy has a positive impact on the development of students' religious character, increasing discipline, understanding of Islamic values, social sensitivity, and strengthening religious identity. However, this study also identified obstacles such as lack of student interest, limited teacher resources, dense curriculum, and negative influences of the social and technological environment. Strategies involving improving teacher competence, effective time management, and support from parents and the community are needed to overcome these obstacles.

When the general objectives, national educational vision and educational programs that guide the Turkish education system are examined, it is seen that analytical thinking is one of the main skills that are aimed to be developed and will be taken more seriously in the coming period. Although the teaching programs and learning environments are well prepared, it is an obligation for teachers to have the necessary competencies in order to successfully achieve the goals of the program. Teachers who use analytical thinking skills effectively and are expected to train analytical thinking individuals should have analytical thinking knowledge, skills and tendencies, be able to apply methods and techniques that will lead students to analytical thinking. As a result of the radical innovations made in education in Turkey since 2004, the dissemination of analytical thinking skills and attitudes has become one of the priority issues. Teacher competencies, primary and secondary education programs, as well as teacher training programs at the higher education level are structured on the basis of thinking education. During their education, prospective teachers should gain awareness, knowledge and understanding of analytical thinking, learn how to apply methods, techniques and measurement tools that will lead students to analytical thinking. However, studies show that few faculty members and students in teacher education have the necessary knowledge, understanding or experience in teaching analytical thinking. In order to ensure the integration of analytical thinking into the teaching of teachers in pre-service or in-service training, the development of analytical thinking skills and tendencies, metacognitive skills involving monitoring and reflection, comprehension of problems and arguments require many areas to be addressed. Professional knowledge about analytical thinking, teaching competence and teaching behaviors are considered important for the design of teaching that develops analytical thinking. The European Profiling Grid (EPG) Pre-service Teachers’ Level in Lesson and Course Planning Competence

The quality of teachers significantly influences student performance, making it crucial for educators to possess the necessary competencies to be effective. This study assesses the competencies of prospective teachers from the English Department at Media Nusantara Citra University using The European Profiling Grid (EPG), which mandates that graduates achieve at least the beginner teacher level. The research aims to evaluate these prospective teachers' abilities in lesson planning and teaching according to EPG standards. Using a qualitative descriptive method, the study involved 17 students undergoing Field Practice (PKL), with data collected from their lesson plans and interviews. Results reveal that 13 prospective teachers were at the beginner level, while 4 reached the experienced teacher level. The findings indicate that all participants met the minimum graduation requirements based on EPG, specifically in lesson planning and teaching competencies.
