Abstract The Trump Administration has announced that all claims for injuries that may be caused by the coronavirus vaccines now being developed must be filed in the Countermeasures Injury Compensation Program. This essay assesses the flaws in this program and advocates that it be substantially modified or that compensation claims be addressed via other significantly superior compensation programs. There is an urgent need for attention to this issue in light of intensive efforts being made to rapidly develop and distribute COVID-19 vaccines. It is important that a fair vaccine injury compensation program be available to the tens of thousands of volunteers who are currently participating in clinical trials to find a much-needed safe and effective vaccine. Once such a vaccine is approved, it is hoped that a substantial majority of Americans will take it. Failure to have a fair compensation program in place for all who receive the vaccines will give ammunition to Anti-Vaxxers and undermine the widespread use of these vaccines.
