Experimental study on the thermal properties of fiber reinforced concrete (TPFRC)

Fiber-reinforced concrete (FRC) has recently sparked interest in the scientific community because of its superior qualities over regular concrete. Traditional concrete must be strengthened and updated to bear enormous loads and overcome concrete faults such as cracking, swelling, and shrinking. The use of FRC is advantageous in industrial, commercial, and strategically significant buildings that are prone to fires. The experimental results of the study and comparison of thermal characteristics and temperature-dependent mechanical properties of Polypropylene, Steel and Hybrid (steel + Polypropylene) fiber-reinforced concrete are presented in this project. The effect of employing Polypropylene, Steel and Hybrid fibers (steel + polypropylene) in the proportions given and fluctuation in strength parameters, and qualities shown owing to heating at different temperatures were investigated in this study. The thermal properties of the non-metallic and metallic fibers were studied through experimentation and results were concluded. It can be recommended from the experimental investigation that the usage of fiber-reinforced concrete is advantageous for ensuring the safety of important industrial buildings which are often exposed to high temperatures. Polypropylene can be employed in cases which are subjected to unfavorable environmental conditions, impact damages, and surface abrasion.

Comparison of Thermal Characteristics in Various Aspect Ratios for Radial-Flux and Axial-Flux Permanent Magnet Machines

This paper proposes an axial-flux permanent magnet machine (AFPM) that uses a neodymium-bonded permanent magnet (Nd-bonded PM) and a coreless rotor structure and assesses how it performs in industrial applications requiring high efficiency and low cost. The AFPM is able to achieve high efficiency in high-speed regions because its Nd-bonded PM can restrain eddy current loss. Additionally, the AFPM can continuously function at the rated operating point without a cooling system, so the expenses for one can be eliminated. Hence, the AFPM can simultaneously achieve high efficiency and low-cost mass production. In this paper, a comprehensive comparison including the thermal characteristics of the proposed AFPM and a conventional radial-flux permanent magnet machine (RFPM) is shown. Furthermore, this paper also focuses on how the aspect ratio influences the thermal characteristics of both machines. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed AFPM in industrial applications is assessed using 3D-FEA and experimental results.

Comparison of Thermal Characteristics and Fatty Acids Composition in Raw and Roasted Cocoa Beans from Peru (Criollo) and Ecuador (Forastero)

The aim of this research was to complete the characteristics of cocoa beans and cocoa butter extracted from two different Theobroma cacao species: Criollo originated from Peru and Forastero originated from Ecuador, both in the version of raw (unroasted) and roasted beans. Before extraction, the cocoa beans were characterized by proximate analysis. The determination of fatty acids composition was carried out by gas chromatography (GC). The positional distribution of fatty acids in the sn-2 positions of triacylglycerols (TAGs) was also determined. The thermogravimetric analyses (TGA/DTG) were performed under the nitrogen and oxygen atmosphere of roasted and unroasted cocoa beans. The kinetic information was helpful to assess the oxidative stability of cocoa butter. The cocoa butter extracted from unroasted Forastero from Ecuador had the highest values of oxidation activation energy Ea. The melting characteristics of cocoa butter extracted from roasted Criollo species were very similar to their unroasted versions. The same trend was not observed for Forastero species. TGA and DTG were revealed to be useful tools for the analysis of whole cocoa beans and the fats extracted from these cocoa beans.

Numerical study on thermal characteristics comparison between charge and discharge process for lithium ion battery

The comparison of thermal characteristics between charge and discharge processes for lithium ion battery is usually neglected but has a strongly effect on its performance and safety. In this paper, an electrochemical-thermal cycling model is presented for a 5 Ah LiNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/3 26650 type lithium ion battery to evaluate and compare the thermal characteristics, includes the temperature distribution, heat generation and contribution during charge and discharge processes. The model is validated during cycling by experiment firstly. The results show that the constant current charge process displays a shorter duration, a higher peak temperature, and a quicker temperature rise rate compared with the corresponding discharge process. The heat generated at charge process is larger than that at discharge of lower rate (0.5 C and 1 C), while that of discharge accounts for 52.97%, exceeding the charge process at 1.5 C. The constant current charge ends at state of charge of 91.31%, 84.62% and 78.06% for 0.5 C, 1 C and 1.5 C, respectively, which means that more capacity is charged and more heat is generated during constant voltage charge at higher rate. Moreover, the dominant heat generation in charge process is the polarization heat of negative electrode, while the dominant heat generation in discharge process is the polarization heat of positive electrode.

Research on influence of stator shapes and frames of switched reluctance motor to thermal characteristics

This paper describes a comparison of thermal characteristics of stator shapes and frames in switched reluctance motor. It has been published that stator shapes and frame shapes had a large influence on noise and vibration performance, but thermal characteristics haven't been studied. Four differ ent stator shapes were analyzed by using transient magnetic analysis in order to calculate the losses, which were taken into thermal analysis as heat source. Three dimensional finite element th ermal analyses was then carried out to study four different stator s with same basic dimension, and it was found that the square shape was most heat conductive. Frames including conventional axial ribbed aluminum frame, axial ribbed iron casting frame, radial ribbed frame, no ribbed frame were modeled and analyzed. The simulation results could be used to help make a choice between different stators and frames considering both vibration be havior and thermal behavior.

This paper deals with the examination of various types of flame resistant fabric in fire conditions, standard flammability tests and thermogravimetry. It shows how it may be possible to determine the protection afforded by a garment using very small samples and instrumental laboratory techniques. This could be important in the development of new materials where a quick assessment could be made of the protective qualities of the material.
