It was found that to ensure and improve the reliability of transport systems, it is necessary to have an effective toolkit for identification and classification of their failures, the number for a given period of operation and the determination of the required number of structural elements in the form of participants.
 It is shown that the construction of a tree of their failures is an effective tool for identification and classification of transport system failures. The procedure for its construction and its implementation is presented on the example of a transport system for the transportation of rock mass for the production of crushed stone. A tree of failures of this system was built and the main directions of its activity were developed to ensure the technical serviceability of the rolling stock and prevent its failures. Attention is focused on the coefficient of technical readiness of the vehicle fleet, an analysis of various types of formulas for evaluating this complex indicator of reliability and ways to increase its level are provided. Factors affecting the reliability of the transport system are determined and their list is given.
 It was found that regardless of the mutual location of the elements of the transport system, it is difficult to assign any of them to the main category. At the same time, the main argument is that the failure of any structural element of the transport system can lead to its complete failure, with the exception of elements connected in parallel.
 A number of assumptions have been made regarding the formation of the organizational and production structure of a trucking company based on functional characteristics, when the grouping and selection of elements of the company's production system is carried out in accordance with the commonality of performed functions. Areas of activity of trucking companies to prevent failures in the transport system caused by technical malfunctions of rolling stock are given.
 It was established that based on the results of the analysis of possible failures in the transport system, the optimization of the number of elements of the structural and functional scheme of the production process of transportation is carried out, when solving the problem, the minimum necessary number of its participants is determined. At the same time, the optimization criterion is selected taking into account the cost of the transportation process, which includes conditionally constant and variable costs directly for the movement of the object of transportation and its terminal processing on the way of passage.

Analysis of Line Balancing using Ranked Positional Weight (RPW), Largest Candidate Rule (LCR), and J-Wagon Methods in Crane Girder Production at PT MHE Demag Surabaya, Indonesia

Every company is required to enhance its quality by implementing improvement actions within the company's production system. PT MHE Demag Surabaya is a company engaged in crane girder manufacturing. This research aims to determine the optimal line balancing using the Helgesson-Birnie/Ranked Positional Weight (RPW) method, the Largest Candidate Rule method, and the J-Wagon method. Line balancing is necessary due to excess operating time in the crane girder manufacturing workstations, which increases the risk of accidents for the workers. The results of data processing which employed these three heuristic methods demonstrate that the RPW method is the most efficient. The Helgesson-Birnie/Ranked Positional Weight (RPW) method yields the most optimal output, with a line efficiency of 96.67%, balanced delay of 3.33%, and total idle time of 4936.8 seconds using 15 workstations. By utilizing the heuristic methods for line balancing, the efficiency decreases to 144.76%, the balanced delay increases to 14.76%, and the total idle time increases to 86,400 seconds.

Analysis of Employee's Awareness Level of Occupational Health and Safety at PT. Works of Fertilizer Land

Occupational health and safety (K3) has a very important aspect of the effectiveness and smoothness of a company's production system. In this study, the authors aim to analyze the level of awareness of employees on the importance of occupational health and safety at PT Karya Tanah Subur (KTS). The approach used is a descriptive approach method, namely by means of interviews, direct observation, and also a review of literature. This aims to determine the level of awareness of employees working at PT. KTS against K3 that will occur. The results of the analysis obtained, the authors state that the employees at PT. KTS is aware of occupational health and safety PT KTS. This can be proven from company data, namely the number of work accident rates in the company's production process is very small. In addition, the level of compliance of employees of PT. KTS towards implementing occupational health and safety programs can be implemented properly.

World Class Manufacturing performance measurement using a maturity model and the FlowSort method

The World Class Manufacturing (WCM) system is a set of best management practices that can provide organisations with significant performance results. At the same time, since organisations are in a volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) environment, it is important that they continually assess this environment and, thereby, gain situational understanding to perceive and seize opportunities and threats, and consequently apply management practices strategically. Therefore, this paper proposes and empirically validates a model for evaluating the maturity of organisations when applying the WCM system. The authors combined the insights they had from the literature with opinions of WCM experts to develop the model. To support the problem of classifying organisations into the maturity levels defined, the FlowSort multicriteria method was used. The proposed model was applied in four companies and received a good evaluation and acceptance by those involved. This corroborated with the feasibility and usability of this instrument, in addition to which this method by proposing a new tool for evaluating the performance of production systems of companies that use WCM, in a VUCA environment, is intended as a contribution to the literature.

Effect of Key User Empowerment, Purchasing Strategy, Process Integration,Production System to Operational Performance

This study examines the influence of key user empowerment on the operational performance through the mediating role of process integration, purchasing strategy and production system. The questionnaires were distributed to 120 manufacturing companies domiciled in East Java Region. Of the 120, 70 questionnaires are valid for further analysis. Data analysis used Partial Least Square (PLS) version 3.0. The finding are as follows: Key user empowerment affects the process integration. Key user empowerment influence the purchasing strategy. Process integration affects the purchasing. Process integration also influence the production system. Purchasing strategy provide support in the company's production system. Process Integration affects the company's operational performance. Purchasing strategy does not affect the operational performance. Purchasing strategy has an impact on company performance through a production system. The production system provides an increasein company performance. In summary, the key user empowerment has a direct and indirect impact on operational performance through process integration, purchasing strategy, and the production system. This study enriches the current research in supply chain management and provide an insight for the manager in improving the operational performance.

Self-organizing expert communities in educational projects

Purpose of the study. The purpose of the study is the problem of forming a knowledge model of a specialist with higher education that is a part of an educational project. Its relevance is related to the need for an adequate response to strengthening the scientific and technological progress dynamics and the transition to the information interactions economy in the current conditions of the higher education system. Materials and methods. The information base of the research includes the laws on education of the Russian Federation, educational standards of higher professional education, scientists’ publications on the issues under investigation. The study used the following methods: system analysis, active systems theory, reflexive control theory, and modeling. Results. The research analyzes the consequences of Russia’s entry into the Bologna Convention on education. It shows that this event caused the problem of efficiency and quality of training specialists, as well as the problem of integrating higher education institutions into a new social and economic system related to their adaptation to market relations. According to the principle of institutional autonomy, solution of these problems is the responsibility of universities. The paper shows that the way to solve these problems is to transfer universities to a design and technological type of administration. The most promising form of education project management is the model of information interaction within the framework of active self-developing network expert environments. The elementary part of such an environment is an expert professional, who owns modern telecommunication technologies and Internet means. Integration in the natural intelligence network structure forms a collective strategic subject, which is a tool of a knowledge and action synergy in the interaction process. The paper describes the developed structure of the active self-developing network expert environment and two principles of its functioning as an active multi-agent system when forming a specialist knowledge model. It is proposed to consider the construction of specialist’s knowledge model in the context of corporate knowledge management strategies in organizations to increase competitiveness, as the established support systems for organization knowledge lifecycle and specialist’s integral knowledge model are used to integrate strategic corporate tasks with strategic tasks of developing employees’ corporate knowledge. They consider a specialist as an element of a company production system. His purpose is to give a product specified quantitative and qualitative parameters that ensure its competitive advantages. To carry out production activities, a specialist uses a complex of abilities, knowledge and skills that should be considered as models of his production and technological activities. At each moment, this complex should be considered as a subjective model of its production and technological activity. This creates a basis for a university self-development process by involving advanced consumers using network technologies in the innovative process of improving educational services, receiving ideas or content by referring to their creative abilities in exchange for a reward that corresponds to a contribution. The paper proposes a system that provides a direction for finding solutions and ideas, as well as filtering, summarizing information, determining its value and prospects. It is shown that the method of improving the quality of solutions on an educational project is the synthesis of crowdsourcing technologies, network expertise and the methodology of the active systems theory. Conclusions. The proposed approach allows considering the process of extracting new ideas and knowledge when forming a specialist’s knowledge model as an active system with heterogeneous agents with a counter way of sharing information and active influence of the center in the form of queries to obtain reflexive estimates. It also allows ensuring the interaction of universities and an organization in managing their intellectual capital.

The History of a Mother Factory

IntroductionThe term 1 is widely used in the Japanese industry. Every year, an increasing number of articles referencing appear in the Japanese mass media. Moreover, academic research, particularly in the international business domain, also uses the term. When the Japanese production system began to garner attention in the 1980s and its advantages were realized, became known as the organization that facilitated the transfer of that system (Yamaguchi, 1996). Since that time, the term has been used in academic research outside of Japan as well (Liker, Fruin, & Adler, 1999).However, the term has never been clearly defined and is used in many ways. For example, articles in the Japanese mass media have variously described as a factory that acts as parent for developing production technologies and human resources and strengthens the function of guiding and controlling overseas factories, 2 a factory that engages in product development or product prototyping, creates prototypes of new products, and leads other mass production plants in development of the latest manufacturing technologies,3 and a factory that develops new technologies and transfers them to overseas factories.4 Because the term has diverse meanings, it is likely to be used differently in the Japanese mass media, Japanese academic research, and non-Japanese academic research. 5 However, no studies have examined the differences in the usage of the term. Unless such differences are clarified, use of the term without common agreement on its meaning could lead to misunderstandings.This study identifies the different usage of the term in the Japanese mass media, Japanese academic research, and non-Japanese academic research and concludes that difference exists in the way each of these three groups defines the mother factory. Initially, all three groups commonly held to the definition of mother factory as a unit that continuously supports overseas factories; however, over time, all but those in Japanese academic research departed from this original meaning.Usage of the Term Mother Factory in the Japanese Mass MediaFirst, let us examine the usage of the term in Japanese newspapers and magazines. We used newspaper company's database6 to search the number of articles each year that used this term.7 Figure 1 presents the results of this search while Table 1 indicates when the term was first mentioned and the company that was being referenced. Based on these results, it can be seen that has been widely used since it appeared in the newspaper in 1983 for the first time. We consider four periods: between 1980s and early 1990s, between the late 1990s and early 2000s, late 2000s, and since 2010. Below, we more closely examine the usage of the term in each of these periods.The early days (1980s-early 1990s)Mother was initially used to denote a unit that continuously supports overseas factories as technology center. It first appeared in an article on Stanley Electric Co., Ltd., where mother factory was described as a model factory for overseas factories. Inventory configurations and drivers: An international study of assembling industries

In recent decades, inventory reduction has been a key objective of companies in various industries and is particularly important in the current crisis. Inventory is closely related to a company's production system and supply chain and a one-way strategy towards zero-inventory can be inapplicable or too general. As a matter of fact, there is a complex relationship between inventory types (input, WIP and output) and the factors causing or affecting them. On the basis of three editions of a survey in different assembly industries (IMSS) carried out in 2001, 2005 and 2009, we demonstrate in this paper that the actual configurations that companies adopt, as well as the factors behind the chosen configurations, are stable and consistent over time, in terms of the levels of each type of inventory. We also show that not all of the companies are stuck in a configuration; with the right measures, they can reduce the stock of inventory and become more competitive.

Modelización técnico-económica de un sistema de moldeo de aluminio a alta presión para fabricación de piezas de automoción

In the present paper a technical-economic model for an aluminum high pressure die casting system has been developed. In order to obtain the necessary data for the correlations utilized by the model, has been analyzed the production systems of companies that use these processes. This has allowed to determine the most important technological variables that affect to the economical aspect of the process. A computer application has been developed which allows to explore easily the influence of different system parameters.

戦間期フランス企業における科学的管理法の導入と展開

In this paper, the author describes the adoption of the “Taylor System” by the Pont-A-Mousson Company, a representative French manufacturer of iron tubes and other iron products.With the help of the Saint-Gobain Pont-A-Mousson Archives (25, rue de la Valée Maillard, 41000 Blois, France), it is possible to trace the efforts of this company to rationalize their production system.This paper is composed of three sections. The first section analyses the rationalization efforts of the company in the 1910s. Pont-A-Mousson asked the Morinni consulting company of Paris to suggest methods of rationalizing the production system. Morinni submitted a report concerning (a) worker's attitude and discipline, (b) the card system, (c) work time, labour and materials and (d) methods of bolt production.The second section examines the missions of company engineers sent to the United States in the 1920s in order to study the American “Taylor System”. Upon their return, these engineers improved the company's production system, and generated savings in production costs.The third section deals with the slowdown of the pace of rationalization in the 1930s. In this decade, the Bedeaux consulting company of Paris tried unsuccessfully to sell their system to Pont-A-Mousson.The Pont-A-Mousson company was very enthusiastic in adopting the American production system and we may conclude that their efforts produced significant results.

Technical audit: How to assess the technological standard of a company

The overall evaluation of the technological standard of a company's production system is a fundamental factor of success. This paper deals with a simple procedure for evaluating this standard. The evaluation process will be described as well as organizational aspects of the so called technical audit. One example of an audit sheet illustrates an important part of the method.
