The Organisation of Archives in Switzerland. The archives of public communities in Switzerland do not depend from any central authority. At the municipal, cantonal and fédéral levels, the Magistrate (— administrative authority) appoints the archivist entrusted with the management of its records. Between cantonal and municipal archives, the coordination is generally ensured through Cantonal Regulations, periodical inspections by the State Archivist of the Canton (or Cantonal Archivist), and the organisation of training courses. Between federal and cantonal archives, some concertation is reached through the Society of Swiss Archivists, which organises periodical working sessions for all archivists.
