Using the analysis of the proper names (mainly toponyms), the article considers the topic of a small homeland in the lyrics of a famous modern Smolensk poets, Alexei Viktorovich Mishin (1936–2009), who would have turned 85 in
 2021. It is proved that he is a bright representative of the Smolensk Poetic School
 of a new generation, that is distinguished by Adrian Vladimirovich Makedonov,
 a famous Soviet literary critic from Smolensk, in 1960.
 The onomastic fragment of the poet’s work allows us to identify common fea-
 tures in the poetic work of the founders of the Smolensk Poetic School and
 A.V. Mishin: a special pathos of the Smolensk region, Smolensk community, love for
 the native land, glorifying a small homeland, native places. We have thoroughly an-
 alized the composition of exact geographical names of specific places on the map in
 the Smolensk region, in a large part of the Roslavl region where the poet was born.
 Through the semantic environment of onyms, the author’s connotations
 are revealed, which makes it possible to verify the truth of poetic love for the
 native land and people of labor, the famous fellow countrymen of the poet. The
 author’s reading of the poet’s lyrical lines is presented. This material is firstly
 introduced into scientific circulation.
