In response to the increasing need for environmental scientists with a solid grounding in chemistry, an environmental selection has been added to the list of chemistry-based degree options certified by the American Chemical Society's Committee on Professional Training (CPT). That action, taken in January, is just the latest indication of an increasing interest by chemical educators in developing the environmental theme in undergraduate chemistry curricula. Such programs are multiplying on campuses across the U.S. The trend surfaced at a five-part Division of Chemical Education symposium entitled Environmental Chemistry Education. Organized by Peter D.
