In the title compound, (C12H11BrN)[Ni(C4N2S2)2], completely segregated columnar stacks of anions and cations are observed. There are three symmetry-independent anions in the asymmetric unit (A, B and C), all of them essentially planar. Two types of anionic columns are both stacked along the b axis of the crystal; columns of the first type are made up entirely of one of the three independent anions (anion A) and have identical Ni⋯Ni distances of 4.1401 (10) A, while columns of the second type are made up of alternating anions B and C and have slightly different, alternating Ni⋯Ni distances [4.1695 (11) and 4.0971 (11) A]. The columns of Λ-shaped bromobenzylpyridinium cations show no π–π interactions within the stack; there are, however, short S⋯Br contacts between the anionic and cationic stacks.
