A facile generation of organosamariumη 3-allyl complexes by reductive cleavage of allylic ethers with (C 5Me 5) 2Sm(THF) n

Reductive C-O bond cleavage of allylic benzyl ethers with two equivalents of (C 5Me 5) 2Sm(THF) n (n=2 or 0) takes place selectively to generate(C 5Me 5) 2Sm(η 3-allyl) complexes in high yields along with equimolar amounts of the samarium benzyloxide.

AlCl3–N,N-Dimethylaniline: A Novel Benzyl and Allyl Ether Cleavage Reagent

Abstract A combination system of AlCl3–N,N-dimethylaniline was found to cleave benzyl ethers readily to give parent alcohols in excellent yields. The system also cleaved allyl as well as methyl ethers. Numerous functional groups such as benzoyloxy, phenylthio, and olefinic double bond were not affected. Comparisons of AlCl3–N,N-dimethylaniline and AlCl3–anisole were described.

SmCl3-catalyzed electrochemical cleavage of allyl ethers

The allyl-oxygen bond in a series of alkyl and aryl allyl ethers was cleaved in a SmCl 3-catalyzed electrochemical reaction. The competition between the cleavage of the oxallyl and other functional groups, such as halides, ester, ketone or aldehyde was examined.

AlCl3-N,N-dimethylaniline: A new benzyl and allyl ether cleavage reagent.

Benzyl and allyl ethers have been cleaved readily on treatment with AlCl3 and N,N-dimethylaniline to give parent alcohols in high yields. Comparisons of N,N-dimethylaniline and anisole are also described.

This reagent may prove useful in the cleavage of allylic ethers conjugated to ketones.

Isomerization and Cleavage of Allyl Ethers of Carbohydrates by Trans- [Pd(NH3)2Cl2

Abstract Allyl ethers are widely used for the “temporary” protection of hydroxy groups in carbohydrates. The allyl group is conveniently removed by isomerization and subsequent cleavage of the labile prop-1-enyl group.2 The rearrangement of allyl ethers to prop-1-enyl ethers is readily achieved by treatment with potassium t-butoxide in dimethyl sulfoxide, using tris(tripheny1phosphine)rhodium chloride, palladium on activated charcoal and by an ene reaction with diethylazodicarboxylate. acidic conditions, ozonolysis followed by alkaline hydrolysis, reaction with alkaline permanganate solution, or treatment with mercuric chloride in the presence of mercuric oxide. The isomerization of allyl ethers to prop-1-enyl ethers can also be carried out in the presence of palladium on carbon or complex bis(benzonitrile)palladium(11) chloride. Bruce and Roshan-Ali' showed that derivatives of allyl phenyl ether are smoothly cleaved by this complex. This has made it possible to remove the protecting group in a one-pot operation. We have now investigated the effect of palladium catalysts on the isomerization and cleavage of the allyl group in carbohydrate derivatives.

Abstract Corey and Suggs1 have recently indicated that hydroxyl functions may advantageously be protected as allyl ethers. In their publication, a method for selective removal of the blocking group through isomerization of allyl ethers to l-propenyl ethers by Rh(I) complexes followed by acid hydrolysis has been delineated.
