The correlation between traditional Chinese medicine constitution and primary osteoporosis: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

In recent years, as societal awareness of the risks associated with primary osteoporosis (POP) has deepened, numerous studies have explored the relationship between POP and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) constitution types. To further clarify the TCM constitution types closely associated with POP and provide evidence-based medical support for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis from a TCM perspective, we have employed evidence-based methods to investigate the relationship between POP and TCM constitution types. We conducted a comprehensive search of observational studies on the relationship between POP and TCM constitutional types in databases, including PubMed, Embase, MEDLINE, Web of Science, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang, and Chinese Scientific Journal Database (VIP), up to October 2023. After literature selection, data extraction, and bias assessment, 29 studies were included in the meta-analysis, comprising 20 cross-sectional studies and 9 case-control studies. Using R software (version 4.2.3), we analyzed the distribution of TCM constitutional types in POP patients and compared the TCM constitutional types between POP patients and healthy individuals. The meta-analysis results revealed that in POP patients, Yang-deficiency constitution accounted for 22.7% (95% CI: 19.8-25.8%), Yin-deficiency constitution accounted for 15.8% (95% CI: 13.0-18.6%), and Qi-deficiency constitution accounted for 14.1% (95% CI: 12.2-16.0%). The proportions of the three mentioned TCM constitutions all exceed that of the Balanced constitution, with the balanced constitution accounting for 12.3% (95% CI: 7.4-18.1%). The proportions of Yang-deficiency, Yin-deficiency, and Qi-deficiency constitutions were higher in POP patients compared to healthy individuals, with odds ratios (OR) of 2.36 (95% CI: 1.43-3.89), 1.69 (95% CI: 1.36-2.04), and 1.80 (95% CI: 1.23-2.64), respectively, while the Balanced type was lower in POP patients with an OR of 0.16 (95% CI: 0.11-0.23) compared to healthy individuals. The evidence suggests that the Yang-deficiency constitution, Yin-deficiency constitution, and Qi-deficiency constitution are the predominant TCM constitutional types in POP patients. Furthermore, Yang-deficiency constitution, Yin-deficiency constitution, and Qi-deficiency constitution may serve as potential risk factors for POP, while the Balanced constitution may act as a protective factor.

A systematic review of post-stroke fatigue measurement scale based on COSMIN guidelines

ObjectiveThis study aimed to evaluate the methodological quality and measurement attribute quality of the post-stroke fatigue measurement scale, so as to provide some basis for the clinical application and promotion of related scales.MethodsThe Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, the Wanfang Data Knowledge Service Platform, the China Science and Technology Journal Database, the Chinese Medical Journal Full-text Database, the Chinese Biology Medicine, PubMed, Embase, Medline, the Cochrane Library, the Web of Science, CINAHL, and PsycINFO databases were searched for literature on the post-stroke fatigue measurement scale up to June 2022. Literature screening and data extraction were carried out independently by two researchers, and in the case of disagreement, discussions were held with a third investigator to reach an agreement, and the COSMIN checklist and criteria were used to systematically evaluate the attributes of the measurement scale.ResultsA total of 17 studies were included, involving 10 post-stroke fatigue measurement scales. The content validity of FSS-7, FACIT-F, NRS-FRS, and MFI-20 was “not mentioned,” and the remaining scales were “uncertain.” In terms of construct validity, MFS was “adequate”; FSS-7, FACIT-F, and NRS-FRS were “not mentioned”; and the remaining scales were “uncertain.” In terms of internal consistency, NRS-FRS was “not mentioned”; FSS and MFS were “adequate”; and the remaining scales were “uncertain.” In terms of hypothesis testing, CIS and FACIT-F were “not mentioned,” NRS-FRS was “adequate,” and the remaining scales were “uncertain.” The stability of FSS-7, CIS, FACIT-F, and MFI-20 was “not mentioned,” and the remaining scales were “adequate.” The cross-cultural validity of FSS-7 was “adequate,” and the remaining scales were “not mentioned.” All 10 scales were given a recommendation grade of “B”.ConclusionFor the time being, the FSS can be recommended to measure post-stroke fatigue, but it still needs to be tested for more relevant measurement properties in order to gain more support from high-quality evidence. For a more comprehensive assessment of post-stroke fatigue, the FIS, FAS, and NFI-stroke should perhaps be considered, as the FSS is a one-dimensional scale that can only measure physical fatigue in patients; however, these scales also need to be tested for more relevant measurement properties to verify their clinical applicability.

Effects of total flavonoids of Rhizoma Drynariae on biochemical indicators of bone metabolism: a systematic review and meta-analysis

BackgroundEvidence shows that the total flavonoids of Rhizoma Drynariae (TFRD) can improve bone mineral density (BMD). However, there is no evidence to summarize the improvement of biochemical indicators of bone metabolism (BIBM).MethodsThe PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Embase, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang Database, Chongqing VIP Information Database (VIP) and SinoMed were searched from inception to 6 May 2024. The final included studies performed meta-analyses using RevMan 5.3.ResultsNine randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were ultimately included. The TFRD group had higher bone gla protein (BGP) and type I procollagen-N-propeptide (PINP) compared to the Other therapies (WMD: 5.11; 95% CI: 3.37, 6.84; p < 0.00001; WMD: 13.89; 95% CI: 11.81, 15.97; p < 0.00001). The tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRACP) decreased significantly (WMD: −1.34; 95% CI: −1.62, −1.06; p < 0.00001). The alkaline phosphatase (ALP) increased significantly (WMD: 7.47; 95% CI: 6.29, 8.66; p < 0.00001). There were no significant differences in serum calcium (SC) or serum phosphorus (SP) levels between the TFRD and control groups (WMD: 0.08; 95% CI: −0.04, 0.20; p = 0.17; WMD: 0.02; 95% CI: −0.02, 0.05; p = 0.36).ConclusionTFRD can stimulate bone formation and prevent bone resorption in osteoporosis (OP) patients, but it has no effect on SC and SP.Systematic Review Registrationhttps://www.crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO/.

Comparative study of safflower yellow adjuvant to conventional treatment regimen and conventional treatment regimen on diabetic nephropathy

Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is one of the most important comorbidities of diabetic patients, which places large physiological and economic burdens on patients. Safflower yellow, a natural pigment extracted from the petals of safflower, has been put into adjuvant therapy. Databases including Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang Database, MEDLINE and etc. will be searched for relevant articles. A meta-analysis was carried out to assess the efficacy and safety of safflower yellow adjuvant to conventional treatment regimen using mean differences (MD) and rate ratios (RR). A cost-effectiveness analysis was also conducted based on the result of meta-analysis. Finally, 28 articles involving 2251 patients were included in meta-analysis. The results showed that compared with conventional treatment, the fasting blood-glucose (FBG) [MD = 0.40], urinary albumin ejection rate (UAER) within 24 h [MD = 48.16], serum creatinine (Scr) [MD = 9.63], blood urea nitrogen (BUN) [MD = 1.73] were significantly lower and the clinical efficacy [RR = 1.28] was more remarkable in safflower yellow adjuvant to conventional treatment group. Our analysis suggested that safflower yellow adjuvant to conventional treatment regimen not only had better clinical efficacy but more cost-effective than conventional treatment regimen.

Spontaneous Brain Activity Abnormalities in Patients With Temporal Lobe Epilepsy: A Meta-Analysis of 1474 Patients.

Abnormalities in resting-state functional brain activity have been detected in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE). The results of individual neuroimaging studies of TLE, however, are frequently inconsistent due to small and heterogeneous samples, analytical flexibility, and publication bias toward positive findings. To investigate the most consistent regions of resting-state functional brain activity abnormality in patients with TLE through a quantitative meta-analysis of published neuroimaging data. Meta-analysis. Exactly 1474 TLE patients (716 males and 758 females) from 31 studies on resting-state functional brain activity were included in this study. Studies utilizing 1.5 T or 3 T MR scanners were included for meta-analysis. Resting-state functional MRI using gradient echo-planar imaging, T1-weighted imaging. PubMed, Web of Science, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, and WanFang databases were searched to identify studies investigating amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF), fractional ALFF (fALFF), and regional homogeneity (ReHo) at the whole-brain level between patients with TLE and healthy controls (HCs). Seed-based d Mapping with Permutation of Subject Images, standard randomization tests and meta-regression analysis were used. Results were significant if P < 0.05 with family-wise error corrected. Patients with TLE displayed resting-state functional brain activity which was a significant increase in the right hippocampus, and significant decrease in the right angular gurus and right precuneus. Additionally, the meta-regression analysis demonstrated that age (P = 0.231), sex distribution (P = 0.376), and illness duration (P = 0.184), did not show significant associations with resting state functional brain activity in patients with TLE. Common alteration patterns of spontaneous brain activity were identified in the right hippocampus and default-model network regions in patients with TLE. These findings may contribute to understanding of the underlying mechanism for potentially effective intervention of TLE. Stage 2.

Diagnostic and prognostic role of microRNA-525 in different cancers: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

New prospect of cancer therapeutical management seems to be early diagnosis and prognosis prediction by microRNAs. The aim of our study is to explore the role of miR-525 in cancer diagnosis and prognosis through a systematic review and meta-analysis. We conducted systematic search on PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, Medline, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) and Wanfang databases as at November 25, 2023, regardless of languages. Sensitivity, specificity, and diagnostic odds ratio (DOR) were extracted for diagnostic meta-analysis, while hazard ratio (HR) with 95% confidence interval (CI) for prognostic meta-analysis. Subgroup analysis and publication bias analysis were performed appropriately to investigate possible sources of heterogeneity. A total of 8 studies were included in the meta-analysis, of which 7 were used for diagnostic meta-analysis, covering 559 patients, and 3 were used for prognostic meta-analysis, covering 324 patients. The pooled sensitivity was 0.75 (95% CI: 0.70-0.79), specificity was 0.73 (95% CI: 0.68-0.78), DOR was 13.08 (95% CI: 4.18-40.91), and the area under the curve (AUC) was 0.86 (95% CI: 0.83-0.89). Subgroup analysis showed that miR-525 may have good diagnostic ability in the early tumor node metastasis (TNM) stage of cancer. Prognostic meta-analysis showed that low miR-525 expression in patients was associated with preferable survival (HR =0.17, 95% CI: 0.07-0.41). Our findings suggest that miR-525 could be used as a potential biomarker for cancer patients. Low expression of miR-525 in cancers predicted a good prognosis.

Meta-analysis of hybrid immunity to mitigate the risk of Omicron variant reinfection.

Hybrid immunity (a combination of natural and vaccine-induced immunity) provides additional immune protection against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) reinfection. Today, people are commonly infected and vaccinated; hence, hybrid immunity is the norm. However, the mitigation of the risk of Omicron variant reinfection by hybrid immunity and the durability of its protection remain uncertain. This meta-analysis aims to explore hybrid immunity to mitigate the risk of Omicron variant reinfection and its protective durability to provide a new evidence-based basis for the development and optimization of immunization strategies and improve the public's awareness and participation in COVID-19 vaccination, especially in vulnerable and at-risk populations. Embase, PubMed, Web of Science, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Wanfang databases were searched for publicly available literature up to 10 June 2024. Two researchers independently completed the data extraction and risk of bias assessment and cross-checked each other. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale assessed the risk of bias in included cohort and case-control studies, while criteria recommended by the Agency for Health Care Research and Quality (AHRQ) evaluated cross-sectional studies. The extracted data were synthesized in an Excel spreadsheet according to the predefined items to be collected. The outcome was Omicron variant reinfection, reported as an Odds Ratio (OR) with its 95% confidence interval (CI) and Protective Effectiveness (PE) with 95% CI. The data were pooled using a random- or fixed-effects model based on the I2 test. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines were followed. Thirty-three articles were included. Compared with the natural immunity group, the hybrid immunity (booster vaccination) group had the highest level of mitigation in the risk of reinfection (OR = 0.43, 95% CI:0.34-0.56), followed by the complete vaccination group (OR = 0.58, 95% CI:0.45-0.74), and lastly the incomplete vaccination group (OR = 0.64, 95% CI:0.44-0.93). Compared with the complete vaccination-only group, the hybrid immunity (complete vaccination) group mitigated the risk of reinfection by 65% (OR = 0.35, 95% CI:0.27-0.46), and the hybrid immunity (booster vaccination) group mitigated the risk of reinfection by an additional 29% (OR = 0.71, 95% CI:0.61-0.84) compared with the hybrid immunity (complete vaccination) group. The effectiveness of hybrid immunity (incomplete vaccination) in mitigating the risk of reinfection was 37.88% (95% CI, 28.88-46.89%) within 270-364 days, and decreased to 33.23%% (95% CI, 23.80-42.66%) within 365-639 days; whereas, the effectiveness after complete vaccination was 54.36% (95% CI, 50.82-57.90%) within 270-364 days, and the effectiveness of booster vaccination was 73.49% (95% CI, 68.95-78.04%) within 90-119 days. Hybrid immunity was significantly more protective than natural or vaccination-induced immunity, and booster doses were associated with enhanced protection against Omicron. Comparing the effectiveness of mind–body practices (MBPs) and various psychological methods on occupational stress among healthcare workers: a network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

ObjectivesThe purpose of this study is to compare the efficacy of mind–body practices (MBPs) and multiple psychological methods, and identify the optimal method for relieving work-related stress among healthcare workers (HCWs) by network meta-analysis (NMA).MethodsWe applied six electronic databases, namely PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, PsycINFO, Cochrane, and Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure to identify relevant RCTs from inception to September 16, 2023, and implemented a search strategy based on the PICOS principles. Data selection, extraction, and analysis of bias were carried out independently and in duplicate by separate researchers. State 16.0 was used to conduct NMA for comparing the effectiveness of various therapies.ResultsWe identified 23 studies including MBPs and three different psychological therapies, namely mindfulness-related therapy (MRT), psychoeducational therapy (PT), and comprehensive therapy (CT), which were divided into eleven specific techniques, namely yoga, meditation techniques (MT), Qigong, muscle relaxation(MR), biofeedback therapy (BT), mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs), modified mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR-M), mindfulness-based interventions combined with others (MBIs-C), mindfulness-based awareness(MBA), PT and CT. Our NMA results of MBPs and three psychological therapies showed MBPs (SMD = -0.90, CrI:-1.26, -0.05, SUCRA = 99%) were effective for occupational stress in HCWs, followed by MRT(SMD = -0.48, CrI:-0.87, -0.08, SUCRA = 66.5%). NMA results of eleven specific techniques showed yoga (SMD = 1.36, CrI:0.91, 1.81, SUCRA = 97.5%) was the most effective technique in relieving the stress of HCWs, followed by MR (SMD = 1.36, CrI:0.91, 1.81, SUCRA = 87.3%).ConclusionsOur study suggested MBPs may be the most effective intervention to improve the occupational stress of HCWs. Furthermore, yoga is likely to be the most optimal of MBPs. Hospital managers should attach importance to yoga in addressing occupational stress among medical workers.

Clinicopathological and prognostic role of CEP55 expression in cancer patients: A meta‐analysis of 31 studies with 12,543 patients

AbstractBackgroundDysregulated expression of centrosomal protein 55 (CEP55) has been detected in multiple types of cancers. However, the clinical value of CEP55 expression in cancer is controversial. The current meta‐analysis quantitatively investigated the association between CEP55 expression and prognostic outcomes in cancers.MethodsA literature search was performed using the Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang databases, Web of Science, Embase, MEDLINE, PubMed, and Cochrane Library for primary studies. The pooled hazard ratios (HRs) and odds ratios (ORs) were used to investigate the association between CEP55 expression and its prognostic and clinicopathological value in cancers.ResultsA total of 12,543 patients from 31 studies were included in this meta‐analysis. High CEP55 expression was significantly associated with poor differentiation, deeper tumor invasion and increased lymph node metastasis in cancer patients. The pooled results indicated that elevated CEP55 expression can predict a poor overall survival (OS) and disease‐free survival (DFS) in cancers. These results should be interpreted with caution because of publication bias. However, the pooled HR for OS of lung cancers was 1.50 (95% CI = 1.36–1.67, p &lt; 0.01) with no heterogeneity and publication bias.ConclusionsCEP55 overexpression correlated with poor cancer differentiation, deeper tumor invasion, and increased lymph node metastasis, suggesting that CEP55 may serve as a predictive and prognostic biomarker for cancers, especially for lung cancers.

Racial and ethnic differences in restarting antiplatelet therapy in patients with primary intracranial hemorrhage: a systematic review and meta-analysis

BackgroundThere has long been clinical disagreement over the resumption of antiplatelet therapy in patients with primary intracranial hemorrhage (ICH). This meta-analysis aimed to systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of restarting antiplatelet therapy after ICH among different races and ethnicities.MethodsAll relevant medical studies involving adults with antiplatelet-associated ICH published in PubMed, The Cochrane Library and Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure from inception to March 2024 were sourced. Outcome measures were thromboembolic events (stroke and myocardial infarction) and recurrence of ICH. After assessing study heterogeneity and publication bias, we performed a meta-analysis using random-effects model to assess the strength of association between resumption of antiplatelet therapy and our outcomes.The review was not registered and the review protocol was not prepared.ResultsThirty-five studies were included, with 9758 ICH patients. Subgroup analysis revealed that restarting antiplatelet therapy was associated with a significantly higher risk of recurrence or aggravation of cerebral hemorrhage in Asians[OR = 1.48, 95% CI (1.13–1.94), P = 0.004]; in Caucasians, on the contrary, reinitiation of antiplatelet therapy was not associated with a significantly higher risk of recurrence or aggravation of cerebral hemorrhage [OR = 0.85, 95% CI (0.67–1.06), P = 0.149]. Reinitiation of antiplatelet therapy was associated with a significantly lower risk of cerebral infarction [OR = 0.61, 95% CI (0.39–0.96), P = 0.033]. Restarting antiplatelet therapy after cerebral hemorrhage was not associated with a higher incidence rate of mortality [OR = 0.79, 95% CI (0.57, 1.08), P = 0.138], myocardial infarction [OR = 2.40, 95%CI (0.53,10.79), P = 0.253], hemiparesis [OR = 0.38, 95%CI (0.03,4.81), P = 0.451], neurological deficit [OR = 0.86,95%CI(0.32,2.33),P = 0.766].ConclusionReinstitution of antiplatelet therapy after ICH was associated with a lower risk of thromboembolic complications.Resumption of antiplatelet therapy was not associated with a higher incidence of cerebral hemorrhage in Caucasians, but may be associated with a higher risk of cerebral hemorrhage recurrence in Asian populations.

The updated relationship between the cleft‑lip and palate transmembrane protein‑1‑like rs401681 and lung cancer risk: A systematic review and meta‑analysis.

Currently, the role of cleft-lip and palate transmembrane protein-1-like (CLPTM1L) rs401681 in various tumor types, particularly lung cancer, has garnered significant attention. However, the findings across studies have shown discrepancies. The aim of the present meta-analysis was to provide a more nuanced understanding of the involvement of CLPTM1L rs401681 in lung cancer development. Several electronic databases were systematically searched, including PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, Medline, Wanfang, Google Scholar and Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were synthesized using random-effects models. Heterogeneity of included studies was assessed using the I2 statistic and Q test. Sensitivity analysis was conducted to evaluate the stability of overall estimates. Moreover, Egger's test was utilized to detect potential publication bias. The collective ORs indicated a significant association between the CLPTM1L rs401681 polymorphism and susceptibility to lung cancer across various genetic comparisons. These encompass allele T vs. allele C (OR=0.93, 95% CI=0.88-0.99, P<0.001), TT + CT vs. CC (OR=0.91, 95% CI=0.87-0.96, P<0.001), TT vs. CC + CT (OR=0.88, 95% CI=0.80-0.96, P<0.001), TT vs. CC (OR=0.84, 95% CI=0.75-0.94, P<0.001) and CT vs. CC (OR=0.84, 95% CI=0.75-0.94, P<0.001). Examination through statistical Q test and I2 statistic revealed pronounced heterogeneity across four genetic comparisons (allele T vs. allele C, TT + CT vs. CC, TT vs. CC and CT vs. CC). Ethnical distinctions emerged as the primary, if not exclusive, sources of the significant heterogeneity. Upon stratification by ethnicity, a notable reduction in heterogeneity was discernible within the Caucasian demographic. However, heterogeneity persisted within the Asian population. Furthermore, lung cancer risks were statistically significantly decreased for individuals possessing allele T through all genetic comparisons within Caucasians; whereas among Asians, significant reduction was observed solely in the TT vs. CC comparison. The present meta-analysis uncovers a significant association between the CLPTM1L rs401681 polymorphism and altered susceptibility to lung cancer.

Multimodal abnormalities of brain structures in adolescents and young adults with major depressive disorder: An activation likelihood estimation meta-analysis.

Major depressive disorder (MDD) in adolescents and young adults contributes significantly to global morbidity, with inconsistent findings on brain structural changes from structural magnetic resonance imaging studies. Activation likelihood estimation (ALE) offers a method to synthesize these diverse findings and identify consistent brain anomalies. To identify consistent brain structural changes in adolescents and young adults with MDD using ALE meta-analysis. We performed a comprehensive literature search in PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure databases for neuroimaging studies on MDD among adolescents and young adults published up to November 19, 2023. Two independent researchers performed the study selection, quality assessment, and data extraction. The ALE technique was employed to synthesize findings on localized brain function anomalies in MDD patients, which was supplemented by sensitivity analyses. Twenty-two studies comprising fourteen diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) studies and eight voxel-based morphometry (VBM) studies, and involving 451 MDD patients and 465 healthy controls (HCs) for DTI and 664 MDD patients and 946 HCs for VBM, were included. DTI-based ALE demonstrated significant reductions in fractional anisotropy (FA) values in the right caudate head, right insula, and right lentiform nucleus putamen in adolescents and young adults with MDD compared to HCs, with no regions exhibiting increased FA values. VBM-based ALE did not demonstrate significant alterations in gray matter volume. Sensitivity analyses highlighted consistent findings in the right caudate head (11 of 14 analyses), right insula (10 of 14 analyses), and right lentiform nucleus putamen (11 of 14 analyses). Structural alterations in the right caudate head, right insula, and right lentiform nucleus putamen in young MDD patients may contribute to its recurrent nature, offering insights for targeted therapies.

BackgroundAs an emerging technology in robot-assisted (RA) surgery, the potential benefits of its application in transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) lack substantial support from current evidence.ObjectiveWe aimed to investigate whether the RA TLIF is superior to FG TLIF in the treatment of lumbar degenerative disease.MethodsWe systematically reviewed studies comparing RA versus FG TLIF for lumbar degenerative diseases through July 2022 by searching PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, CINAHL (EBSCO), Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), WanFang, VIP, and the Cochrane Library, as well as the references of published review articles. Both cohort studies (CSs) and randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were included. Evaluation criteria included the accuracy of percutaneous pedicle screw placement, proximal facet joint violation (FJV), radiation exposure, duration of surgery, estimated blood loss (EBL), and surgical revision. Methodological quality was assessed using the Cochrane risk of bias and ROBINS-I Tool. Random-effects models were used, and the standardized mean difference (SMD) was employed as the effect measure. We conducted subgroup analyses based on surgical type, the specific robot system used, and the study design. Two investigators independently screened abstracts and full-text articles, and the certainty of evidence was graded using the GRADE (Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation) approach.ResultsOur search identified 539 articles, of which 21 met the inclusion criteria for quantitative analysis. Meta-analysis revealed that RA had 1.03-folds higher “clinically acceptable” accuracy than FG (RR: 1.0382, 95% CI: 1.0273–1.0493). And RA had 1.12-folds higher “perfect” accuracy than FG group (RR: 1.1167, 95% CI: 1.0726–1.1626). In the case of proximal FJV, our results indicate a 74% reduction in occurrences for patients undergoing RA pedicle screw placement compared to those in the FG group (RR: 0.2606, 95%CI: 0.2063- 0.3293). Seventeen CSs and two RCTs reported the duration of time. The results of CSs suggest that there is no significant difference between RA and FG group (SMD: 0.1111, 95%CI: -0.391–0.6131), but the results of RCTs suggest that the patients who underwent RA-TLIF need more surgery time than FG (SMD: 3.7213, 95%CI: 3.0756–4.3669). Sixteen CSs and two RCTs reported the EBL. The results suggest that the patients who underwent RA pedicle screw placement had fewer EBL than FG group (CSs: SMD: -1.9151, 95%CI: -3.1265–0.7036, RCTs: SMD: -5.9010, 95%CI: -8.7238–3.0782). For radiation exposure, the results of CSs suggest that there is no significant difference in radiation time between RA and FG group (SMD: -0.5256, 95%CI: -1.4357–0.3845), but the patients who underwent RA pedicle screw placement had fewer radiation dose than FG group (SMD: -2.2682, 95%CI: -3.1953–1.3411). And four CSs and one RCT reported the number of revision case. The results of CSs suggest that there is no significant difference in the number of revision case between RA and FG group (RR: 0.4087,95% CI 0.1592–1.0495). Our findings are limited by the residual heterogeneity of the included studies, which may limit the interpretation of the results.ConclusionIn TLIF, RA technology exhibits enhanced precision in pedicle screw placement when compared to FG methods. This accuracy contributes to advantages such as the protection of adjacent facet joints and reductions in intraoperative radiation dosage and blood loss. However, the longer preoperative preparation time associated with RA procedures results in comparable surgical duration and radiation time to FG techniques. Presently, FG screw placement remains the predominant approach, with clinical surgeons possessing greater proficiency in its application. Consequently, the integration of RA into TLIF surgery may not be considered the optimal choice.Systematic review registrationPROSPERO CRD42023441600.

Visual Analyses of Hot Spots and Frontiers in Zanthoxylum planispinum Research Based on CiteSpace

Zanthoxylum planispinum is a type of plant with homologous properties in medicine and food, making it well-loved in China. To explore the development of the Z. planispinum field over the past 20 years, its research hotspots and frontier trends were analyzed. This study conducted database-based visualization analyses and knowledge graph analyses using CiteSpace software with data concerning Z. planispinum published in the Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure and Web of Science databases between 2003 and 2023. Over the last 20 years, the number of Chinese and English publications on Z. planispinum has shown increasing trends. The foci of this research were mainly germplasm resources, cultivation management, seed oil extraction technology, flavonoid extraction technology, and correlation analyses of antioxidant activities. The main research frontiers included the unified standard naming and adaptation mechanisms of Z. germplasm resources, orientation cultivation, functional component extraction, processing technology research and development, and industrial chain construction. The results provide a scientific reference for the high-quality development of the prickly ash industry.

Effects of Polyphenol-Rich Foods on Lipids and Oxidative Stress Status in Patients with Hyperlipidemia: A Systematic Review of Randomized Controlled Trials.

Hyperlipidemia has been demonstrated to be an autonomous predictor of numerous cardiovascular and cerebrovascular ailments, and research indicates that polyphenols have preventive and therapeutic effects on hyperlipidemia. Nevertheless, the impact of polyphenol-rich foods on blood lipids and oxidative stress status in patients with hyperlipidemia remains inconclusive. To examine the impact of polyphenol-rich foods on lipid levels and oxidative stress in individuals with hyperlipidemia. To retrieve papers published from the establishment of the database through October 9, 2023, eight databases were searched: the Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, the China Biomedical Literature Database, the Wanfang Database, the China Science and Technology Journal Database, PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Embase, and the Web of Science. The quality of include studies was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias in Randomized Trials tool, v2. The study involved 13 surveys encompassing 640 patients diagnosed with hyperlipidemia. The scope of the food surveys included 12 commonly consumed food groups and medicinal and food homologous substances. All 13 studies reported the effects of polyphenol-rich foods on blood lipids, with significant improvements observed in blood lipid levels for 9 types of foods. Eight studies examined the impact on oxidative stress, and six foods demonstrated a significant reduction in oxidative stress levels. The observed effects were found to be influenced by factors such as dosage, duration of intervention, and gender. Foods abundant in polyphenols play a crucial role in the prevention and treatment of hyperlipidemia by counteracting oxidative stress and regulating metabolic disorders. The confirmation of certain positive effects by several studies notwithstanding, discrepancies in results arise from various factors, necessitating further large-scale, prospective, well-designed randomized controlled studies to address this issue.

Systematic review and meta-analysis of the diagnostic performance of lacrimal gland ultrasound elastography in primary Sjögren's syndrome.

This research conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the effectiveness of ultrasonic elastography (USE) in detecting lacrimal gland involvement in individuals suffering from primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS). A comprehensive search was undertaken across multiple databases including PubMed, the Cochrane Library, EMBASE, Wanfang, Web of Science, and the Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, to gather relevant literature pertaining to the application of USE in diagnosing pSS from January 1, 2000, to October 1, 2023. Pooled data were used to calculate sensitivity, specificity, and diagnostic odds ratios. Several summary metrics were used to evaluate SWE's performance in detecting pSS, including the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve, diagnostic odds ratios, sensitivities, and specificities. Five pertinent studies included a total of 273 patients. Shear wave elastography (SWE) demonstrated a pooled sensitivity of 0.88 (95% CI 0.77-0.94) and specificity of 0.94 (95% CI 0.88-0.98), with an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.97 (95% CI 0.95-0.98). SWE exhibited a positive likelihood ratio of 15.86 (95% CI 6.99-36.00) and a negative likelihood ratio of 0.13 (95% CI 0.07-0.25). No evidence of publication bias was observed (p = 0.70). SWE demonstrates a remarkable degree of precision in detecting lacrimal gland involvement in individuals suffering from pSS.

The effectiveness of problem-based learning and case-based learning teaching methods in clinical practical teaching in TACE treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma in China: a bayesian network meta-analysis

PurposeTo investigate the effectiveness of problem-based learning (PBL) and case-based learning (CBL) teaching methods in clinical practical teaching in transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) treatment in China.Materials and methodsA comprehensive search of PubMed, the Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) database, the Weipu database and the Wanfang database up to June 2023 was performed to collect studies that evaluate the effectiveness of problem-based learning and case-based learning teaching methods in clinical practical teaching in TACE treatment in China. Statistical analysis was performed by R software (4.2.1) calling JAGS software (4.3.1) in a Bayesian framework using the Markov chain-Monte Carlo method for direct and indirect comparisons. The R packages “gemtc”, “rjags”, “openxlsx”, and “ggplot2” were used for statistical analysis and data output.ResultsFinally, 7 studies (five RCTs and two observational studies) were included in the meta-analysis. The combination of PBL and CBL showed more effectiveness in clinical thinking capacity, clinical practice capacity, knowledge understanding degree, literature reading ability, method satisfaction degree, learning efficiency, learning interest, practical skills examination scores and theoretical knowledge examination scores.ConclusionsNetwork meta-analysis revealed that the application of PBL combined with the CBL teaching mode in the teaching of liver cancer intervention therapy significantly improves the teaching effect and significantly improves the theoretical and surgical operations, meeting the requirements of clinical education.

Summary of the effect of an exercise intervention on elderly with mild cognitive impairment: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Many randomized controlled trials have demonstrated that exercise benefits cognitive function in patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), but less attention has been paid to the development of exercise programs in this population. This study aimed to assess the effect of exercise intervention for elderly with MCI and provide the most effective exercise intervention plan. We searched 4 international databases (PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Cochrane Library) and 4 Chinese databases (Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, VIP database and Wanfang database) for studies on exercises associated with MCI up to September 25, 2022. The resulting standardized mean differences (SMD) and 95% confidence intervals were statistically analyzed using Review Manager 5.3 software. A total of 20 RCTs were comprised in this meta-analysis, including 1393 participants. The results of the meta-analysis revealed that exercise had positive effects on cognitive function in elderly with MCI and was statistically significant (SMD = 1.25, 95%CI: [0.88,1.62], P < .00001). Subgroup analysis showed that the most significant factor was the Peterson 2004 criteria, multi-exercise, 35 to 50 minutes/times, <3 times/3 to 5 times per week, >16 weeks and medium intensity. Exercise intervention can significantly alleviate cognition in elderly with MCI. The best exercise program for exercise intervention for MCI is: multi-exercise, 35 to 50 minutes/times, 3 to 5 times/week, and exercise cycle for more than 16 weeks with medium intensity, has the best effect. Plus, more RCTs with larger sample sizes will be required in the future to demonstrate the link between exercise duration, intensity, and cognitive function.
