Correlation between mental status and prevalence of asthenopia in Chinese college students.

The purpose of this study was to identify the possible association between mental status and the risk of self-reported asthenopia among college students in China. Ten thousand students were randomly assessed in the study using a self-reported asthenopia questionnaire. Their demographic characteristics and mental status were recorded. Univariate analysis was performed to preliminarily select potential risk and protective factors. Then, multivariate logistic regression was used to estimate odds ratios for the selected risk factors of interest. Among the 8370 students who completed the survey, the prevalence of asthenopia was 61.0%. Multivariate analysis revealed a significant relationship between asthenopia and depressive symptoms (OR 1.511 95% CI: 1.350-1.691), obsessive-compulsive symptoms (OR 1.477, 95% CI: 1.338-1.632), gender and study load. The place college students spent their off-hours (OR 0.841, 95% CI: 0.784-0.902) was found to be the strongest factor for decreasing the occurrence of asthenopia complaints. Asthenopia appears common in Chinese college students. In addition to depressive symptoms, we should pay attention to obsessive-compulsive symptoms when considering means of preventing asthenopia. Harmonious social relationships, outdoor off-hour activities and exercising more than three times per week are crucial to relieving visual fatigue. Further study is still needed in this area.

The impact of physical activity on social anxiety among college students: the chain mediating effect of social support and psychological capital.

As a topic of widespread concern in the fields of mental health and public health, social anxiety has many negative impacts on the physical and mental health of contemporary college students. Therefore, this study aims to provide new ideas for solving the problem of social anxiety among college students by exploring the potential mediating role of social support and psychological capital in the relationship between physical activity and social anxiety. A cross-sectional survey was conducted on 874 college students from five universities in Shandong Province. Various self-report tools such as physical activity rating scale, social support scale, positive psychological capital scale, and social anxiety scale were used to collect information needed for this study. Related data. Use this to conduct descriptive statistical analysis, correlation analysis, and mediation effect analysis. The results showed that physical activity was significantly positively correlated with college students' social support (r = 0.354, p < 0.01) and psychological capital (r = 0.448, p < 0.01), and social support was significantly positively correlated with psychological capital (r = 0.556, p < 0.01), the above three are significantly negatively correlated with social anxiety (r = -0.326, -0.381, -0.432, p < 0.01); the mediation effect analysis shows that physical activity has a significant direct effect on college students' social anxiety The effect value is -0.136, accounting for 43.31% of the total effect; social support and psychological capital both play a separate mediating role between physical activity and social anxiety among college students, with effect values of -0.064 and -0.073 respectively, accounting for the total effect. 20.38, 23.25%, and also played a chain intermediary role, with an effect value of -0.041, accounting for 13.05% of the total effect. Current research shows that physical activity can not only directly reduce social anxiety among college students, but also indirectly alleviate social anxiety among college students by increasing the level of social support and psychological capital. This has important reference significance for helping college students in China and even around the world overcome social anxiety.

A qualitative exploration of e-cigarette prevention advertisements' effectiveness among college students in China.

The rapid growth of e-cigarette usage among youth and young people has emerged as a significant public health concern. It is imperative to initiate effective vaping prevention campaigns and undertake relevant research to address this pressing issue. This research seeks to identify effective video advertisements to deter young people from starting to use e-cigarettes. It aims to offer evidence-based insights and recommendations for creating communication materials and designing messages for youth e-cigarette prevention efforts. College students aged 18-24 years (n=40) participated in focus groups within this qualitative study. After viewing four stimulus videos, participants discussed what they perceived as effective and ineffective video characteristics, as well as suggestions for future videos. Effective video characteristics included the use of real-life testimonials, displaying specific health hazards, revealing harmful chemical ingredients and the deceptive nature of flavors, and positively perceived effectiveness. Participants generally found that videos with strong visual impact and graphics were more engaging and that approaches using fear and emotion were more effective. Ineffective characteristics included complex and exaggerated information, lack of empathy and irrelevance, insufficiently specific information, extreme and death-themed content, industry messages, as well as preachy tones, animations, metaphors, dull formats, excessive length, and scenes of e-cigarette use. Developing anti-e-cigarette campaign materials for youth necessitates target audience-focused qualitative research. This helps in deeply exploring and identifying effective themes and messages, as well as video characteristics and details while avoiding ineffective or even misleading messages and themes from young people's perspectives outside the United States. Future development of e-cigarette prevention videos for Chinese college students may consider incorporating localized real-life testimonial cases to convey specific harms, including self-efficacy information, and utilizing fear and emotional appeals.

From clicks to credits: examining the influence of online engagement and internet addiction on academic performance in Chinese universities

University students’ engagement in online activities can impact both internet addiction and academic performance. This research aims to investigate these effects among university students. Using data from the "China College Students Longitudinal Survey" conducted by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences between 2013 and 2018, this study examines the influence of university students’ engagement in online activities. With a sample size of 15,102 university students, we explored the relationship between online activity, internet addiction, and academic performance. Employing stratified random sampling, the study investigates sample characteristics, including gender, study level, time spent online, and experiences accessing websites. Academic performance is assessed through six categories, employing descriptive and inferential statistics such as t-tests, ANOVA, stepwise linear regression, and path analysis. The findings indicate significantly high levels of university students’ engagement in online activities, accompanied by a high prevalence of internet addiction. Key factors determining university students’ engagement, internet addiction, and academic performance include gender, study level, time spent online, and experiences accessing websites beyond the Great Firewall. The study establishes a complex relationship, revealing negative effects of specific online engagements on internet addiction, while the latter influences university students’ engagement. Overall, this research contributes valuable insights into the intricate interplay between online behaviors, addiction, and academic performance among Chinese university students, with implications for educational policies and interventions.

Examining the Role of Mentoring on Perceived Employability Among University Students in China

The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of mentoring on university students’ perception of employability in China and to investigate the role of mentoring duration, frequency, and mentor-mentee similarity as potential moderating factors. This quantitative study was conducted by administering an online survey among university students in China. All participants ( N = 1023) completed demographic questions and a Likert scale questionnaire consisting of 16 self-perceived employability scale items and 25 college student mentoring scale items. After controlling for the university students’ age, gender, academic field, and university rank, mentoring was significantly positively associated with perceived employability. Our results further reveal that out of the four mentoring functions, psychological emotional support is significantly positively associated with perceived employability. The findings suggest that mentoring duration, frequency, and mentor-mentee similarities shape the impact of psychological emotional support on employability. The findings of this study contribute to the literature on mentoring and perceived employability, and provide valuable insights for educators, policymakers, and mentoring program developers. By emphasizing the importance of key mentorship functions, educational institutions can develop effective mentoring programs and interventions to enhance university students’ career prospects and employability.

Fear and perceived risk of cyber fraud victimization among Chinese University students

Cyber fraud has surfaced as a serious social problem in China, resulting in billions of Chinese yuan worth of financial losses in recent years. The high prevalence and large quantity financial losses from cyber fraud have sparked widespread public concerns about online safety. Based on survey data from over 1000 university students in China, this study explores the prevalence of fear and perceived risk of cyber fraud and its correlates among university students. The results showed that although only 10% of the respondents believed they would likely experience cyber fraud victimization in the next 12 months, approximately 50% reported feeling fearful of cyber fraud in the past 3 months. The logistic regression results show that both fear and perceived risk are influenced by different domains of risk factors, with higher self-control and deviant online behaviors explaining greater odds of fear. In contrast, the perceived risk of crime is linked to vicarious victimization experiences, perceived crime seriousness, and satisfaction with the police. Implications for future research and policy are discussed.

It examines how various factors, including media literacy and peer influence, moderate and mediate the relationship between new media consumption habits and political education outcomes. Through a mixed-methods approach, data were collected from Chinese and Malaysian university students, exploring their engagement with different types of new media platforms, content delivery methods, frequency of exposure, perceived credibility of sources, and the influence of peer networks. The study identifies significant challenges and opportunities posed by the evolving digital landscape in both countries, addressing issues such as misinformation, echo chambers, commercialization, digital divide, and disparities in access. Findings reveal nuanced differences in the impact of new media on political education between the two cultural contexts, highlighting the importance of context-specific interventions and educational strategies.

Understanding the Influences on Green Purchase Intention with Moderation by Sustainability Awareness

The concept of sustainable development has gained significant traction in recent years, leading to a growing emphasis on green consumption. Previous studies have rarely emphasized the important role of sustainability awareness in influencing green consumption. This study explores the mechanism of the influence of sustainability awareness on green purchase intention, using the theory of planned behavior as a conceptual framework. The aim is to contribute to the promotion of environmental protection and green consumption. The research used an online five-point Likert scale questionnaire and collected data from university students in China. Useable data were collected from 419 respondents and were then validated and analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM) and the PROCESS macro for SPSS 22.0. The findings suggest that attitudes toward green purchases, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control have a positive effect on green purchase intention; sustainability awareness significantly and positively moderates the direct effect of attitudes toward green purchases on green purchase intention and the predictive effect of subjective norms on green purchase intention; and sustainability awareness significantly and negatively moderates the direct effect of perceived behavioral control on green purchase intention. The findings can be used to develop strategies that influence university students’ intention to purchase green products.

Study on the Influence of Home-school Cooperation on the Mental Health of College Students in China and its Mechanism

The purpose of this study is to explore the influence of home-school cooperation on the mental health of college students in China and its mechanism. By collecting a large number of sample data and using descriptive statistics, factor analysis and regression analysis, this paper makes an in-depth analysis of the relationship between home-school cooperation and college students' mental health. The results show that home-school cooperation has a significant positive impact on college students' mental health, among which the frequency of home-school communication, the diversity of home-school cooperation forms and the depth of home-school cooperation have a positive impact on college students' mental health. Further analysis shows that home-school cooperation can not only understand and solve students' psychological problems in time, but also promote students' psychological healthy growth by providing rich growth environment and personalized psychological support. Based on the above findings, this study puts forward some policy suggestions, such as strengthening home-school communication, enriching the forms of home-school cooperation, deepening the content of home-school cooperation and improving the policy support system, in order to provide more powerful protection for the mental health of college students in China. These research results not only help to enrich and develop the theoretical system in the field of home-school cooperation and college students' mental health, but also provide an important reference for educational practice and policy formulation.

Internet Addiction among " Gen Z " College Students in China: the Role of Attachment Styles

This study looked at whether insecure attachment style among Chinese university students categorized as "Gen Z" is predictive of various types of Internet addiction using an online survey. Using simple random sampling, 796 Chinese university students (581 valid questionnaires) were chosen as participants. The chi-square test results showed a strong correlation between insecure attachment style and addiction to online gaming and relationships, but not with addiction to online information. Online gaming and online relationship addiction were positively connected with anxious and fearful avoidant attachment, according to binary logistic regression studies, but dismissive avoidant attachment did not demonstrate any significant correlation. These results imply that online relationships and game addiction are partially predicted by an insecure attachment type.

The Influence of Chinese Martial Arts Teaching on the Moral Quality and Achievement Motivation of College Students in China

The purpose of this dissertation is to investigate the effects of teaching Chinese martial arts on college students' moral quality and achievement motivation. Through an in-depth analysis of the relationship between Wushu teaching and the development of college students' comprehensive quality, we explored the potential role of Wushu teaching in enhancing students' moral standards and stimulating their achievement motivation. In this study, we clarified the status of wushu as a traditional cultural sport in university education through a literature review, and elaborated the unique teaching concepts and methods of wushu teaching. Then, we collected a large amount of empirical data on the role of wushu teaching in college students' moral quality and achievement motivation by means of a questionnaire survey. The results of the study show that by participating in Wushu teaching, college students show significant improvement in moral quality. Wushu emphasizes etiquette, respect, and self-discipline, and fosters positive moral values in students, making them more responsible and team-oriented in their daily lives. In addition, the practical requirements and skill enhancement of Wushu sports also stimulate students' achievement motivation to a certain extent, prompting them to pursue excellence and personal development. The teaching of Chinese Wushu had a positive impact on college students' moral quality and achievement motivation. This study provides a useful reference for university physical education, emphasizing that wushu, as an effective educational tool, helps to cultivate students' all-round development of moral quality and positive achievement motivation.

The Effect of Fitness Yoga on Health Fitness of Female College Students: An Experimental Study

This study investigates the impact of fitness yoga interventions on the physical health of female college students in China. Through an 8-week program involving 35 participants, changes in body composition, cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength, and flexibility were assessed before and after the intervention. Results indicate significant improvements in BMI, cardiopulmonary fitness, muscular strength, and flexibility post-intervention, highlighting the efficacy of fitness yoga in enhancing overall physical health among female college students. These findings underscore the importance of integrating yoga interventions into educational settings to promote holistic well-being among young adults.

The interplay of academic emotions and teacher interpersonal behaviors on psychological well-being of university students in China

This paper investigated the association between students’ perceptions of teacher autonomy-supportive and controlling interpersonal behaviours, positive and negative academic emotions, and subjective vitality and emotional exhaustion. Study 1 employed a cross-sectional survey design to collect data from 328 undergraduate students from three public universities in China. Study 2 employed an experimental design and collected data from 64 undergraduate students. The results of the structural equation modelling with latent variables indicated that teacher autonomy-supportive interpersonal behaviours did not reduce negative academic emotions, and negative emotions did not explain subjective vitality, while positive emotions did not explain emotional exhaustion. These findings suggest that positive and negative emotions are mutually exclusive in predicting subjective vitality and emotional exhaustion. The study discusses the implications of these findings for instructors’ interpersonal behaviours and the role of emotions in predicting students’ psychological well-being in the Chinese context.

Self-Efficacy and Effect on Blended Learning in Moral Education Course Among Students

This study explored the impact of blended learning on self-efficacy in moral education among 414 university students in China. The respondents, mostly female, were primarily freshmen. They experienced blended learning as the dominant teaching format, with face-to-face and online formats also present. The analysis revealed no significant gender-based discrepancies in self-efficacy across most domains, except for notable differences in ICT skills and enlisting peer and social support, pointing to potential gender-specific areas for intervention. The study identified significant correlations between students' self-efficacy and the effectiveness of teaching moral education in blended learning environments. Higher self-efficacy among students was associated with better teaching outcomes in blended learning contexts. These findings highlight the importance of enhancing students' self-efficacy to improve the success of blended learning in moral education. The results suggest that educators could focus on building self-efficacy to optimize the effectiveness and impact of blended learning in moral education courses.

The Effect of 12-Week Outward-Bound Training on Sports Attitude, Heart Rate and Physical Fitness Among College Students in China

Outward-bound training (OBT) originated in the UK as an outdoor survival method during World War II and is an experiential training course that emphasizes shaping teamwork, enhancing and strengthening individual psychological and athletic potential, and promoting organizational growth. However, OBT to improve sports attitude and physical fitness among college students remains unclear. The purpose of this study investigated the effect on sport attitude, heart rate and physical fitness among college students in China. Sixty college students (Aged 18-20, 19.05±0.85y) who were selected from Jiangxi Teachers College took part in this study. Participants were randomly assigned into two groups EG and CG. The EG completed 12 weeks OBT combined normal PE class intervention and the CG only for 12 weeks normal PE class intervention. The result indicated that the EG was statistically significant difference than control group after Paired-samples T test analysis for sports attitude questionnaire score (Male T=-11.515, P=0.001 and Female T=-23.070, P=0.001); HRMax (Male T=-5.755, P=0.001 and Female T=-4.007, P=0.001); HRAvg (Male T=-5.072, P=0.001 and Female T=-4.801, P=0.001); 50m run (Male T=8.085, P=0.001 and Female T=8.413, P=0.001); 800m run (Female T=5.949, P=0.001); 1000m run (Male T=3.722, P=0.001); Standing long jump (Male T=-2.233, P=0.042 and Female T=-5.824, P=0.001); Sit and reach (Male T=-3.872, P=0.002 and Female T=-5.274, P=0.001); Sit-up (Female T=-11.042, P=0.001 ); Pull-up (Male T=-4.276, P=0.001). Therefore, the conclusion suggested that 12-week OBT intervention was significant to improve sports attitude, heart rate and physical fitness among college students in China.

Understanding food waste sorting behavior in institutional food services: An integrated psychological framework

Food waste from institutional food services accounts for a significant part of global food waste. Food waste sorting (FWS) at the source reduces waste management costs and environmental impacts in organizations. Yet what drives individual FWS behavior remains underexplored. This study explores the psychological process of FWS in institutional catering environments, integrating the value-belief-norm model, the theory of planned behavior, and self-determination theory. Data were collected from 431 university students in China and analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). Results indicated the interplay of values, beliefs, norms, and motivations in shaping FWS behaviors. Social value orientations (SVO) indirectly affected FWS through awareness of consequences and personal norms. Subjective norms, potentially attributed to external regulations in canteens, influenced FWS intention through personal norms and induced FWS primarily via controlled motivations. The findings imply that behavioral strategies to induce FWS may leverage social influence and external regulation while also translating values and knowledge into intrinsic motivations through educational programs and awareness campaigns.
