The effect of chairside relining materials on rat palatal mucosa

Objectives: To investigate the effects of denture relining materials on oral mucosa in vivo in a rat model. Methods: Denture-like appliances covering the palate in Wistar rats were relined with a resilient soft lining material and a hard ‘chairside’ relining material. The effects on the palatal epithelium were studied by quantitative analysis using computerized planimetry. Results: The relining materials caused an increase in the thickness of the keratinized layer, while not increasing the total epithelial thickness. Conclusions: Relining materials are not totally without effect on oral mucosa. Further in vivo research is indicated.

Unrestricted linear dimensional changes of two hard chairside reline resins and one heat-curing acrylic resin

The selection and use of hard chairside reline resins must be made with regard to dimensional stability, which will influence the accuracy of fit of the denture base. This study compared the dimensional change of two hard chairside reline resins (Duraliner II and Kooliner) and one heat-curing denture base resin (Lucitone 550). A stainless steel mold with reference dimensions (AB, CD) was used to obtain the samples. The materials were processed according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Measurements of the dimensions were made after processing and after the samples had been stored in distilled water at 37°C for eight different periods of time. The data were recorded and then analyzed with analysis of variance. All materials showed shrinkage immediately after processing ( p < 0.05). The only resin that exhibited shrinkage after 60 days of storage in water was Duraliner II; these changes could be clinically significant in regard of tissue fit.

A comparison of bond strengths among chairside hard reline materials

Several chairside hard resin reline materials have been introduced to improve the fit and function of existing denture bases. However, it is not known whether the bond strengths among the various chairside reline and denture base materials are significantly affected by their differences in chemical composition. This study evaluated the bond strengths of five chairside hard reline materials (Extoral VLC, Flexacryl Hard, Kooliner, Light Liner, and Triad Hi-Flow VLC reline material) to two different denture base resins (Lucitone 199 and Triad VLC) by use of a three-point transverse flexural test. The reline resins are representative of autopolymerizing, light- and dual-cured materials. The results indicate that Triad VLC reline resin with bonding agent gave the highest bond strengths to Triad VLC denture base resin. Light Liner reline resin gave the highest repair bond strengths to Lucitone 199 denture base resin.

An improved technique for processing an overdenture on implants

This article shows an alternate procedure for making an overdenture on implants. This method helps to eliminate a chairside reline for the dentist by directly incorporating the clips into the heat-cured acrylic resin. The procedure is divided into three main sections. The first section deals with the impressions, casts, and records. The second section relates to the making of the bar, and the third section shows the assembling of the clips.

Clinical applications of visible light-cured resin in maxillofacial prosthetics. Part I: Denture base and reline material

A visible light-cured resin system enables the dentist to accomplish chairside relining of removable prostheses. The material is pliable and can be initially cured in the mouth with the regular hand-held visible light. A special unit is needed to completely cure the material, which thereafter is comparable in quality to heatpolymerized acrylic resin. The value of this system for the practice of maxillofacial prosthetics is demonstrated by the ease of relining of various devices and obturator prostheses.

A prosthodontic approach to the surgical treatment of the epulis fissuratum

Simple excision of the epulis fissuratum results in loss of sulcus dept hand scar formation, hence the peripheral seal of full denture are obstructed. In order to avoid these condition, lyophilized porcine skin or dermis were used to excised surface for wound dressing, and treatment dentures were inserted one week after the operation which act as a splint maintaining sulcus depth. Furthermore, occlusal correction, which included to restore an optimal vertical dimension of occlusion of the old dentures, and correction of the extent of the tissue coverage by the old denture base were accomplished by modifying the old (treatment) dentures.Consequently, it seems that loss of sulcus depth and scar formation were reduced. The ridge relation was improved, and this improvement faciliated the eventual registration of the jaw relation.In broad lesion, it is difficult to correct the extent of tissue coverage by the resin bordermolding materials. Therefore, the extent of tissue coverage of old dentures without lesion by the impression technique before operation, and refitting the excised surface by instant chairside reline technique after the operation, it may be useful for the resolution of this difficulty.
