Health Security in Nineveh governorate after 2020: challenges and opportunities

The research reviewed the definition of security in general, mentioned the concept of the security, as it was mentioned in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and as mentioned by some thinkers and authors, and we reached the definition of health security from our ideas . And it was written in the search for the health reality in the governorates of Nineveh according to statistics and indicators taken from the electronic page of the Iraqi Ministry of Health and the Central Statistical Organization , and tables were prepared to reach indicators based on these statistics. In order to reach a diagnosis of challenges and explore opportunities , to studies were conducted in Nineveh Governorate.

An Econometric Analysis of the Factors Affecting Sustainable Agricultural Development in Iraq for the period (1990-2020)

Agricultural investments, agricultural capital accumulations and average per capita agricultural product are considered as important factors in raising levels of sustainable agricultural development, and it is important to quantify the relationship among these factors. The study aimed to measure the impact of some factors affecting sustainable agricultural development in Iraq. The variables used in this study are agricultural investment, accumulated agricultural capital and the average per capita agricultural product as independent variables, while sustainable agricultural development represents the dependent variable. The data for these variables are the time series covered the period from 1990 to 2020 obtained from Ministry of Planning - Central Statistical Organization (COS), Statistical Group for the years (1990-2020). The Johansen's cointegration method was used to estimate the long-run equilibrium relationship among the study variables, and the Toda-Yamamato methodology was used to test the causality. The results showed the weak levels of sustainable agricultural development in Iraq during the period (1990-2020), as it did not exceed (0.160), and the reason for this may be due to the failure of most development indicators to keep pace with the increase in population as well as the unstable political and security conditions that faced Iraq during this period. Also, there is a long-run equilibrium relationship among these variables, as an average per capita agricultural product can causes the sustainable agricultural in the long-run, which requires the Ministry of Agricultural to promote the agricultural sector and pay more attention to the agricultural product, which seems to be one of the sources of sustainable agricultural development in the long-run. The research also recommends encouraging agricultural investments and overcoming obstacles towards targeted investments to promote the agricultural sector, especially investment in agricultural land reclamation, encouraging agricultural workers to maintain their work.

The Effect of Educational-job Mismatch on Company’s Productivity: A Panel Data Approach (Case study from Afghanistan)

The mismatch of education, especially over-education, leads to inefficient allocation of scarce resources and becomes a public policy problem. The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of educational-job mismatch on firm productivity. For this, we used a panel dataset for the period 2010-2016 obtained from the Central Statistical Organization (CSO) of Afghanistan, the World Bank database, and the Ministry of Labor and social welfare. Methodologically, we aggregated at the company level using the ORU (Overeducation, Required Education. and Undereducation) criteria. We also applied the OLS model, a fixed effects model, and a GMM estimator for dynamic systems. We investigate the significantly positive impact of university-level demands on company productivity while attempting to control for simultaneity concerns, unobserved work values that do not change over time, peer group consequences, and the interplay of the production process of adjustment; additional or longer periods of over-education or over-skilling (for younger as well as older workers) are detrimental to company productivity; additional years of under-education and under-skilling (for young employees) are not good (bad) for enterprises productivity. Governments should use greater levels of education and over-education of young and elderly employees as a policy instrument to boost productivity. The Generalized method of moments (GMM) approach is used in this work, which adds to the Afghan literature.

The Impact of Financial Deepening on Economic Growth: Empirical Evidence from Yemen (1994-2018)

This study attempted to investigate the impact of financial deepening on economic growth in Yemeni, using time series based on the use and application of an Autoregressive Distributed Lag Model (ARDL), where data is collected from the World Bank, Yemen's central bank, and the central statistical organization for 1994-2018. The importance of the study lies in knowing the role of financial and economic policies by measuring and analyzing the impact of financial deepening on the Yemeni economy. The study used the independent variable of financial deepening captured by credit to the private sector, grants, Remittances, money supply, banks assets, and foreign direct investment, while the dependent variable gross domestic product is used to measure the economic growth. The results revealed a significant impact of financial deepening on Yemen's economic growth and found the existence of co-integration between the variables and long run relationship. The study recommended that policies that encourage credit borrowing for the private sector should be encouraged.

Using Quadratic Form Ratio Multiple Test to Estimate Linear Regression Model Parameters in Big Data with Application: Child Labor in Iraq

The current paper proposes a new estimator for the linear regression model parameters under Big Data circumstances. From the diversity of Big Data variables comes many challenges that can be interesting to the researchers who try their best to find new and novel methods to estimate the parameters of linear regression model. Data has been collected by Central Statistical Organization IRAQ, and the child labor in Iraq has been chosen as data. Child labor is the most vital phenomena that both society and education are suffering from and it affects the future of our next generation. Two methods have been selected to estimate the parameter of linear regression model, one Covariate at a Time Multiple Testing OCMT. Moreover, the Euclidian Distance has been used as a comparison criterion among the three methods

Dengue Fever Outbreak in Al-Garrahi District, Al-Hudaydah Governorate, Yemen, 2019

Background Dengue fever (DF) has re-emerged in Yemen with a higher frequency during the last years. On November 6, 2019, an increased number of suspected DF cases in Al-Garrahi district was reported. On November 7, 2019, a team was sent to investigate. Objective This study aims to confirm the existence of an outbreak, describe the outbreak characteristics, and recommend suitable intervention for control. Methods A descriptive study was conducted. The World Health Organization case definition was used to identify patients. An active search from house to house, along with entomological investigation and health education, was conducted. A line list was used to collect data. Blood specimens were collected and tested by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for dengue IgM. Frequency, percentage, and rates were calculated, and the population from the central statistical organization was used. Results A total of 2067 cases met the case definition. Of them, 51% were males and 32% were aged <10 years. All patients complained of fever, headache, and arthralgia (100%), followed by myalgia and retro-orbital pain (67% and 39%, respectively). The first case patient was in week 41, and the peak was reached with 1058 patients in week 46. The overall attack rate was 16 of 1000, significantly higher among patients aged 10 years to <50 years and ≥50 years compared with patients aged <10 years (17 and 19/1000 vs 14/1000; P<.001). Of 20 tested blood samples, 12 (60%) were IgM positive. The house index was 70%, the container index was 50%, and the Breteau index was 140. Vector control measures with community participation were intensified in week 46, and patient cases decreased to 140 in week 48. Conclusions A dengue outbreak was confirmed in Al-Garrahi district. The spread of infection was facilitated by storing water and the presence of indoor larvae. The findings emphasize the importance of health awareness and community participation for containing DF outbreaks.

Quality assessment of water quality in Iraqi cities

The quality of drinking water directly affects human health and life. This study is concerned with the assessment of the drinking water quality in the main cities of 14 Iraqi governorates for the years 2011 and 2017 based on the Iraqi Central Statistical Organization statistical data for nine parameters. The Canadian method was used to calculate the Water Quality Index. The results showed a slight difference with the preference for water quality for the year 2011. The water quality is ranked excellent depending on the minimum values of statistical data, good based on the average value of statistical data, and poor depending on the maximum values of statistical data. The most influential parameters for the deviation of the water quality index values are sulphate and turbidity, and the lowest are the pH and electrical conductivity. The study showed that the water quality index does not give a consistent trend of the water quality change during the years 2011 and 2017. Therefore, the study recommends the use of other advanced statistical methods for this purpose. The study showed that the statistical data give less accurate results than the results of the tests, but it gives a clear initial picture for the decision-makers when the study area is wide and the research team is not available and the time period is long.

The economic importance of the tourism transport activity and its role in maximizing revenues for the tourism sector in Iraq

The study deals with a basic problem embodied in the absence of official statistical surveys for the tourism sector within the reports of the Central Statistical Organization in the Ministry of Planning of indicators or data on the volume of revenue from the tourism transport activity in Iraq, in addition to the absence of indicators that reflect the economic importance of the tourism transport activity in relation to the tourism sector or the economic structure For Iraq, except for the availability of the 2019 Tourism Expenditure Survey, which was used to obtain data for our study. The importance of the study is shown by identifying the volume of tourism revenues generated by the tourism transport activity in the tourism sector compared with other categories of tourism activity, in addition to showing the economic importance of the tourism transport activity within the framework of the tourism sector in particular, and the economic structure in general. The aim of the study was to investigate the reasons for the absence of transport indicators for tourism activity and the revenues it achieves that contribute to supporting the tourism sector, and to develop solutions to address those reasons, in addition to highlighting the economic importance of tourism transport activity in the gross national product, the balance of payments, reducing unemployment, and investing in infrastructure. The study adopted the use of the descriptive method in the theoretical aspect, in addition to the use of the analytical method in interpreting the data available in reports and statistical surveys of the activity of the tourism sector and the activity of the transport sector, which were obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics, the Ministry of Planning in Iraq. The study ended with a set of results that included the realization of the two hypotheses (the existence hypothesis H1), and on the basis of which a set of recommendations were developed that contribute to maximizing the role of tourism transport and its economic importance in the tourism sector, which is reflected on the economic structure of Iraq.

The advancement of science and technology in recent years has led to heavy and diversified production and thus market congestion in various goods and services; which led to an increase of competition among advertisers in order to meet the needs and wishes and to upgrade to the level of consumers. These upgrades have imposed an increase in the usage of the promotions, including advertising in terms of quantity and quality, to influence and persuade customers innovatively and creatively using all available mass media. The research aims to identify the attitudes of residents of poor areas towards television advertisements for medicines, and the impact of those advertisements on them in terms of making purchase decisions. To achieve the objectives of the research, a stratified random sample (cluster sampling) was selected based on data and statistics taken from the Ministry of Planning (Central Statistical Organization) according to the criteria (governorate, district, district, alley) with a size of 482 males and females. The research has reached a set of results, the most important of which is that 73% of the surveyed sample confirmed that they took slimming drugs, which were identified through television advertisements, and that 54.6% of the sample confirmed that they sometimes believe in what is said about the capabilities of drugs that are announced on screens. Big data analysis by using one covariate at a time multiple testing (OCMT) method: Early school dropout in Iraq

The early school dropout is very significant portents that controls the future of societies and determine the nature of its elements. Therefore, studying this phenomenon and find explanations of it is a necessary matter, by finding or developing appropriate models to predict it in the future. The variables that affect the early school dropout Iraq takes a large size and multiple sources and types due the political and economic situation , which attributes it as a sort of Big Data that must be explored by using new statistical approaches. The research aims at using one Covariate at a Time Multiple Testing OCMT Method to analyze the data from surveys collected by the Central Statistical Organization IRAQ, which contains many indicators related to school dropout and meaningfully affect the life of the Iraqi persons. The Ridge Regression Method as well as the OCMT method were chosen to analyze data and the Mean Square Errors MSE was used to compare the two methods and From the results we find that OCMT estimator is better than Ridge estimator with Big Data conditions.

Epidemiology of Diphtheria in Yemen, 2017-2018: Surveillance Data Analysis.

BackgroundAs a consequence of war and the collapse of the health system in Yemen, which prevented many people from accessing health facilities to obtain primary health care, vaccination coverage was affected, leading to a deadly diphtheria epidemic at the end of 2017.ObjectiveThis study aimed to describe the epidemiology of diphtheria in Yemen and determine its incidence and case fatality rate.MethodsData were obtained from the diphtheria surveillance program 2017-2018, using case definitions of the World Health Organization. A probable case was defined as a case involving a person having laryngitis, pharyngitis, or tonsillitis and an adherent membrane of the tonsils, pharynx, and/or nose. A confirmed case was defined as a probable case that was laboratory confirmed or linked epidemiologically to a laboratory-confirmed case. Data from the Central Statistical Organization was used to calculate the incidence per 100,000 population. A P value <.05 was considered significant.ResultsA total of 2243 cases were reported during the period between July 2017 and August 2018. About 49% (1090/2243, 48.6%) of the cases were males. About 44% (978/2243, 43.6%) of the cases involved children aged 5 to 15 years. Respiratory tract infection was the predominant symptom (2044/2243, 91.1%), followed by pseudomembrane (1822/2243, 81.2%). Based on the vaccination status, the percentages of partially vaccinated, vaccinated, unvaccinated, and unknown status patients were 6.6% (148/2243), 30.8% (690/2243), 48.6% (10902243), and 14.0% (315/2243), respectively. The overall incidence of diphtheria was 8 per 100,000 population. The highest incidence was among the age group <15 years (11 per 100,000 population), and the lowest incidence was among the age group ≥15 years (5 per 100,000 population). The overall case fatality rate among all age groups was 5%, and it was higher (10%) in the age group <5 years. Five governorates that were difficult to access (Raymah, Abyan, Sa'ada, Lahj, and Al Jawf) had a very high case fatality rate (22%).ConclusionsDiphtheria affected a large number of people in Yemen in 2017-2018. The majority of patients were partially or not vaccinated. Children aged ≤15 years were more affected, with higher fatality among children aged <5 years. Five governorates that were difficult to access had a case fatality rate twice that of the World Health Organization estimate (5%-10%). To control the diphtheria epidemic in Yemen, it is recommended to increase routine vaccination coverage and booster immunizations, increase public health awareness toward diphtheria, and strengthen the surveillance system for early detection and immediate response.

Expectation of Rice Pod Production in Iraq by Using Time Series

The research aims to shed light on the reality of the production of Rice pods in Iraq during the period of time (1943-2019) and its development with time, then predict the production of Rice pods based on three Models of prediction Models, which are the time regression Model on production, in addition to studying the effect of harvested area on production quantities. Then forecasting the production of the Rice pods according to the Model of the regression of the harvested area on the production, the Autoregression Model, and the integrative moving averages (Box Jenkins Models), and in the end the comparison between the expected values ​​of production through the three Models to know the best Model to represent the time series of production of the Rice pods , through the use of the statistical program (SPSS (, Based on annual secondary data represented by the quantities of Rice pods, and the size of the harvested areas of this material in Iraq for the period from 1945 until 2019 obtained from (Central Statistical Organization, Iraq, 2020)

Analyzing big data sets by using different panelized regression methods with application: Surveys of multidimensional poverty in Iraq

Poverty phenomenon is very substantial topic that determines the future of societies and governments and the way that they deals with education, health and economy. Sometimes poverty takes multidimensional trends through education and health. The research aims at studying multidimensional poverty in Iraq by using panelized regression methods, to analyze Big Data sets from demographical surveys collected by the Central Statistical Organization in Iraq. We choose classical penalized regression method represented by The Ridge Regression, Moreover; we choose another penalized method which is the Smooth Integration of Counting and Absolute Deviation (SICA) to analyze Big Data sets related to the different poverty forms in Iraq. Euclidian Distance (ED) was used to compare the two methods and the research conclude that the SICA method is better than Ridge estimator with Big Data conditions.

Classification of Iraqi governorates by using cluster analysis for 2016

يقاس تطور المجتمعات الإنسانية بمستوى النجاح الذي يحققه في مجال الصحة نظرا لارتباطه المباشر بحياة الإنسان. فإذا ما استطاع أي مجتمع الارتقاء بالمستوى الصحي لمواطنيه، فإنه سيحقق نجاحا بذات الدرجة في مجالات الحياة الأخرى، وإذا ما أخفق في هذا الجانب، سيصيبه الاخفاق في الجوانب الأخرى. لذا كان من الواجب البحث في هذا الموضوع المهم. هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى معرفة الاختلاف بين المحافظات العراقية، من حيث مستوى المؤشرات الصحية المقدمة للمواطن، بالإضافة إلى تحديد أي من المؤشرات التي ساهمت بدرجة كبيرة في هذا الاختلاف والتفاوت بين المحافظات. تم الحصول على البيانات من المجموعة الإحصائية السنوية لعام 2017 الصادرة عن الجهاز المركزي للإحصاء. وشملت الدراسة (13) محافظة عدا المحافظات الشمالية ومحافظة الموصل والانبار لعدم توفر البيانات الخاصة بهذه المحافظات و(25) متغيرا التي تمثل المؤشرات الصحية. وتم استخدام اسلوب التحليل العنقودي والمتمثلة بالطريقة الهرمية (الربط المنفرد) والطريقة غير الهرمية k- means)). وتوصل الباحث إلى أن محافظة بغداد هي الافضل في تقديم الخدمات الصحية للمواطن، إذ كانت المسافة بينها وبين بقية المحافظات تتراوح من 3.875 إلى 4.841، وأن محافظتي النجف والقادسية متقاربة في تقديم هذه الخدمات للمواطن، حيث كانت المسافة بينهما (0.411). وأن المحافظات تجمعت في ثلاثة عناقيد، الأول ضم المحافظات (كركوك، ديالى، بابل، كربلاء، واسط، صلاح الدين، النجف، القادسية، المثنى، ذي قار، ميسان) والثاني ضم محافظة البصرة فقط والثالث ضم محافظة بغداد فقط.

Highlighting the Ongoing Roads Infrastructure Challenges: Car Ownership Rates in Iraq

Vehicles that use highway facilities have increased rapidly last decades mainly due to increasing of population and also due to industrials development for vehicles. In Iraq, it has been noticed that the car ownership has been increased since the year of 2003. This paper uses real data taken from the Central Statistical Organization of Iraq (CSO) to focus on car ownership in Iraq as a whole as well as focusing on each province separately. The finding of this paper highlighted the ongoing traffic problems due to sharp increase in the number of vehicles and the unusual traffic growth rate. The expected number of vehicles during the next 10 years is estimated and expected to increase from 4.5 million on 2013 to be as minimum as 11 million private cars. This will create a new challenge for Iraq roads infrastructure which must be enhanced significantly so as to cover such increase in traffic. The results suggest that the average car ownership per 1000 people is increased from 58 to 124 from 2003 to 2013. The average car ownership per households has also increased from 0.39 to 0.83 vehicles per households. Significant differences in car ownership rates are found among Kurdistan, middle and south regions in Iraq. The annual traffic growth rate during the last 10 years of 11.5% is found which is much higher than the population growth rate of 3.14%.

Characteristics of Traffic Accidents in Baghdad

Road traffic accidents (RTAs) are events that suddenly, inadvertently and unexpectedly occur under unforeseen circumstances that involve at least one moving vehicle and result in one or more road users being killed or injured. Unfortunately, Iraqi governorates suffer from higher rates of traffic accident casualties compared with the rates of casualties from terrorist attacks; this situation reveals a serious and growing problem. Road traffic accidents are not easy to eradicate. However, their prevalence can be reduced to the barest minimum via periodic assessments of traffic accident characteristics and the most important aspects for road authorities to consider when designing and evaluating the performance of a road to improve traffic and road users’ safety.Therefore, the primary objective of this paper is to evaluate traffic accidents in Baghdad using a retrospective analysis of accidents that occurred from 2006–2016 taking into consideration the following parameters: the cause of the accident, the genders of the victims, the number and type of vehicles involved in the accident, the time of the accident, the severity of the accident, the type of accident and the age group of the driver(s). The data were been obtained from the Central Statistical Organization in the Ministry of Planning. The results reveal that 12,019 RTAs occurred in the city of Baghdad; on average, 1,092 RTAs occurred each year. Twenty-two percent of the RTAs resulted in death, 67% resulted in injury and 6% resulted in both deaths and injuries. Only 4% of the RTAs resulted in property damage without victims. To this end, Baghdad has the highest prevalence of RTAs of all Iraqi governorates. These results provide scientific evidence to mobilize road authorities to effectively and urgently develop adequate traffic strategies and policies to reduce the epidemic of RTAs in Baghdad as well as other Iraqi governorates.

Descriptive Analysis of Malaria Surveillance System Data, Yemen, 2011-2015

Background: Malaria remains one of the most serious health problems in Yemen where 68% of population is living in malaria risk areas. An Integrated Malaria Surveillance System (IMSS) was introduced in 2009 to improve reporting. Objective: To describe the epidemiology of malaria and identify groups at risk. Methods: Data for 2011-2015 was obtained from the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP). According to the NMCP Guidelines, confirmed malaria case is defined as a case that is positive by microscopy or rapid test. We calculated incidence rate (IR) by age group, sex, type of plasmodium, seasonality and population at risk using projections from the 2014 Central Statistical Organization data. Results: Although the overall malaria IR dropped from 11/1000 in 2011 to 5 in 2015, the IR among < 5 children increased from 8 to 15/1000 and the percentage of confirmed cases increased from 0.64% to 0.83%. Among pregnant women, the IR increased from 4/1000 in 2011 to 6 in 2014 but decreased to 2 in 2015. Two thirds of malaria cases were reported among males and from the coastal governorates. Plasmodium Falciparum accounted for 99% of cases. Conclusions: Despite IR dropped from 2011 to 2015, such drop might not reflect improvement in control and prevention measures, but could reflects underreporting due to political instability, war situation and poor access to health facilities. Proper targeting especially of coastal areas by insecticide treated bed nets and indoor residual spraying is necessary. Strengthening of surveillance system for high-risk groups i.e. <5 children and pregnant women is recommended. A qualitative research should investigate reasons behind the predominance of malaria among males. Further IMSS evaluation is recommended. [iproc 2018;4(1):e10637]

There is no doubt that the volume of demand for insurance service, which is the premiums in the case of a clear decline, due to several reasons, including the reluctance of a large part of the Iraqi society for the request for insurance service as a result of economic factors and technical and legal impact. The study adopted the descriptive method in the identification and treatment of variables, (Per capita income, inflation, population distribution, individual insurance culture, promotional methods, laws and regulations) as independent variables and demand for insurance service as a dependent variable. For the purpose of achieving the research objectives, the researcher used the questionnaire to collect the data and information needed for the study, as well as the data available in the reports and statistics of the company and the Central Statistical Organization.

Statistical Analysis of Mortality and Morbidity Due to Traffic Accidents in Iraq

Undoubtedly, Road Traffic Accidents (RTAs) are a major dilemma in term of mortality and morbidity facing the road users as well as the traffic and road authorities. Since 2002, the population in Iraq has increased by 49 percent and the number of vehicles by three folds. Consequently, these increases were unfortunately combined with rising the RTAs number, mortality and morbidity. Alongside the humanitarian tragedies, every year, there are considerable economic losses in Iraq lost due to the epidemic of RTAs. Given the necessity of understanding the contributory factors related to RTAs for the implementation by traffic and road authorities to improve the road safety, the necessity have been a rise for this research which focuses into two objectives; the first objective is a descriptive analysis for the RTA based on a retrospective analysis during the period of 2002–2015 with the aids of the data obtained from the reports of Iraqi Central Statistical Organization whereas the second objective is to conduct a statistical analysis for RTAs to correlate the criterion variable of accident number, mortality or morbidity to predictor variable which include motorization level or population using traditional statistical regression approach and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) approach. &#x0D;

Effects of FDI spillover on regional productivity

PurposeWhen spillovers are measured at a national level, the regional benefits may not be identified if they are too small. Very few studies that examined how FDI impacts the regional productivity of the host nations have shown mixed results. The evidence is still scarce and little is known about how the regional penetration of FDI affects the regional productivity performance. The trajectory of regional productivity growth in India has been a subject of scrutiny and intense debates and remains less systematically investigated. The purpose of this paper is to fill this lacuna by investigating the effect of FDI spillover on regional productivity in Indian states.Design/methodology/approachUsing data supplied by the Central Statistical Organization, National Statistical Organization, National Sample Survey Office, and National Accounts Statistics, Government of India at the Indian Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, first, the study employs stochastic frontier model to explore the extent to which FDI spillover contributes to the regional productivity from panel data of 28 Indian states over 1993-2013. Second, the study examines the roles of absorptive ability and technology gap on productivity effect of FDI. Third, by adopting SFA, we measure productivity growth of Indian states in terms of Malmquist productivity index. Fourth, India’s development is imbalanced. To analyze the imbalance due to skewed distribution of FDI among Indian states, Indian states are divided into three regions, and the spillover effects of FDI on TFP in these regions are explored.FindingsThe results on the effects of FDI spillover on regional productivity in India using stochastic frontier and panel data from 28 states over 1993-2013 show that R&D, technology import, human capital, and various specifications of FDI have a significant impact on the regional productivity in India except technology gap. Study does not find support for the resource curse hypothesis in Indian states. Productivity growth for India using the Malmquist TFP index based on the stochastic frontier shows positive impact.
