Recent results of a systematic study in the chemistry of the fluorine containing poly(sulfonyl)methanes H 2C(SO 2X) 2 and HC(SO 2X) 3, X=F,CF 3 are discussed. Titled compounds - strong and superstrong CH-acides - contain three reaction centers: central carbon atom, sulfur and oxygen atoms of sulfonyl groups. All mentioned types of reactions were investigated: 1. Central C-aton attack - salt formation (organic and inorganic cation-s), constraction of new C-C bonds by Knoevenagel and Michael type reactions, synthesis of S,P,I - ylides and examination of their reactivity; catalytical possiblities in Friedel - Crafts acylations. 2. S-atom attack - new derivatives of methane tris(sulfonic) acid 3. O-atom attack - new reaction - formation of the phenyl esters of the aci-form of fluoro containing tris(sulfonyl) methanes - phenyldiazoniotris(sulfonyl)methanides pyrolysis - is presented: ▪ Detailes of this reaction will be disscussed including X-ray structures of the novel oxosulfonium ylides.
