Most of the deformations at the base of the serie des calcaires inferieurs and the serie des calcaires superieurs (early Cambrian, Antiatlas) were caused by synsedimentary to early dislocations. Submarine slumpings are discernible in the centimeter to onehundred meter range; differences in density and diagenesis result in ball and pillow structures and mud diapirs in the shallow-water carbonates. Locally, these syngenetic structures are overprinted by later tectonic movements; in this case, a distinct separation of these different processes of development is difficult.
