Primary Transitional Cell Carcinoma of Fallopian Tube: A Rare Entity with Review of Literature

Objective: Primary fallopian tube carcinoma (PFTC) is a rare entity constituting only 0.2-1.5% of all primary female genital-tract malignancies. Transitional cell carcinoma of fallopian tube is very rare constituting only around 10% of the PFTC and very less literature have been reported worldwide. Case report: A 59-year-old postmenopausal women presented with discharge per vaginum and abdominal distension, and was found to have right adnexal mass on clinical examination. Imaging findings were suggestive of a heterogenous adnexal mass and she underwent staging laparotomy. Post-operative histopathology examination confirmed a primary transitional cell carcinoma of right fallopian tube. FIGO stage was IA, and she received six cycles of adjuvant chemotherapy. The patientis nowalive, after 10-years of initial treatment.

Primary Transitional Cell Carcinoma of Fallopian Tube Mimicking Radiologically as Extrauterine Leiomyoma: A Case Report

Introduction: Primary carcinoma of the fallopian tube is very rare among primary genital tract malignancies. Transitional cell carcinoma is among the rarest tumor subtypes that can involve the fallopian tube. Case Presentation: Here, we reported a 42-year-old premenopausal lady presenting with spotting, dysmenorrhea, and abdominal pain. She was found to have a pelvic mass in the right posterior cul-de-sac suspicious to be an eccentrically located leiomyoma. Histopathology examination of the resected mass revealed transitional cell carcinoma arising from the fallopian tube. Conclusions: Primary fallopian tube tumors could be considered in differential diagnosis of pelvic mass and intraoperative frozen consultation is useful for correct diagnosis.

Primary Transitional Cell Carcinoma of Fallopian Tube in Postmenopausal Women: A Case Report and Review of Literature

ABSTRACT Introduction Primary fallopian tube carcinoma is the least common gynecological malignancy encountered in practice. It accounts for about 1% of all cancers of a woman’s reproductive system, and it is more commonly seen in postmenopausal women. Transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) of the fallopian tube is a rare histological variant; only around 20 cases have been reported worldwide so far. The rate of preoperative diagnosis is in the range of 0 to 10%. Case report A 55-year-old P3L3 previous three normal vaginal delivery, postmenopausal for 6 years, type II diabetes mellitus patient presented with complaints of bleeding per vagina and excessive watery discharge per vagina for 6 months. Complete investigations and evaluation were done. Papanicolaou smear and endometrial aspiration were normal, and showed no evidence of malignancy. Taking age into consideration with duration of symptoms for 6 months, we went ahead with total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. Intraoperatively, right hydrosalpinx was noted. Postoperatively, histopathology revealed right TCC of fallopian tube stage Ta1 Nx M0. Patient had wound infection postoperatively and was treated with IV antibiotics. Once infection settled, patient was taken up for diagnostic laparoscopy with omental biopsy and cystoscopy with bladder wall biopsy, which showed no evidence of malignancy. Conclusion It is more common for other cancers to spread to the fallopian tubes rather than for cancer to begin there. This diagnosis is rarely considered preoperatively and is usually first appreciated at the time of operation or by a pathologist. Primary squamous cell carcinoma of fallopian tube accompanied by gastric metaplasia of female genital tract: Case report and review

Primary squamous cell carcinoma arising from the fallopian tube (SCCFT) is extremely rare with only six reported cases. We report a case of primary SCCFT accompanied by multifocal pyloric glandular metaplasia in the genital tract. An accompanying review of the literature describes the characteristics of this rare histological subtype invading into the muscular layer of the fallopian tube to involve adjacent pelvic organs, while the most common serous type tends to spread into the abdominal cavity through tubal ducts. Due to the low response rate of adjuvant therapies, the 5-year survival rate of patients bearing primary SCCFT at stage II-IV is very poor, only accounting for 25%. All patients were alive without disease where optimal resection had been successfully achieved. These findings imply that radical tumor resection is mandatory for satisfactory treatment of primary SCCFT.

Primary transitional cell carcinoma of the Fallopian tube in a premenopausal woman: A case report and review of literature

Transitional carcinomas are extremely rare in the fallopian tube. A 41-year-old premenopausal lady presented with colicky abdominal pain and was found to have a left-sided pelvic mass on examination. In view of the elevated CA-125 and imaging findings suggestive of ovarian mass, she underwent staging laparotomy. Pathological examination confirmed a primary transitional cell carcinoma of the left fallopian tube. Review of available literature suggested that the primary transitional cell carcinoma is probably less aggressive compared to classical adenocarcinoma of the fallopian tube, and it has to be distinguished from the recently recognized entity, parafallopian tube transitional cell carcinoma.

Primary Squamous Cell Carcinoma of Fallopian Tube

We present a case of primary squamous cell carcinoma of the fallopian tube, the third case in the English literature. To make this diagnosis, metastasis from genital and nongenital squamous cell carcinoma should be excluded. This carcinoma reflects the multipotential differentiation of the müllerian duct system.
