A green method for the acylation of secondary alcohols with [CholineCl][ZnCl2]3-catalyzed by ultrasonic method

DES (deep eutectic solvents) [CholineCl][ZnCl2]3, which easily prepared from choline chloride and zinc chloride (ZnCl2), is useful for the acylation of secondary alcohols with acid anhydrides. Acylation of alcohols with acid anhydrides as acylating reagent using [CholineCl][ZnCl2]3 as a catalyst was investigated under the ultrasonic method. Six secondary alcohols were investigated and afforded high yields (88-96%). The desired products were characterized by NMR and GCMS spectra. Different from traditional Lewis acidic catalysts, [CholineCl][ZnCl2]3 was found to be an efficient catalyst for acylation of alcohols under mild conditions. By using the ultrasonic method, the processes gave high yield; the catalyst is cheap, easy to handle, recyclable for several times without significant loss of the catalytic activity.

Reusable and efficient polyvinylpolypyrrolidone-supported triflic acid catalyst for acylation of alcohols, phenols, amines, and thiols under solvent-free conditions

A triflic acid-functionalized polyvinylpolypyrrolidone was prepared and fully characterized by FT-IR, TGA, and SEM. This super acidic solid catalyst shows high catalytic activity for selective acylation of alcohols, phenols, amines, and thiols with anhydrides under solvent-free conditions at room temperature. In addition, this method features an easy to handle solid super acid catalyst and an operationally simple procedure, affording the desired acylated products in excellent yields.

Magnetically separable γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles: An efficient catalyst for acylation of alcohols, phenols, and amines using sonication energy under solvent free condition

This paper reports a facile synthesis of magnetically separable iron oxide (γ-Fe2O3) nanoparticles using thermolysis method. The structural and morphological study of the synthesized γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles was carried out using X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission gun–scanning electron microscopy (FEG–SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectrum (EDS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) techniques. The electron microscopy reveals that the γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles have spherical morphology with a particle size in the range of 40–100nm. The XPS study confirmed the Fe is in +3 oxidation state. The synthesized γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles have been used as an efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the organic transformation between phenols, alcohols, and amines with acetic anhydride under sonication using mild reaction conditions. Various electrons withdrawing and electrons donating substrates show an excellent yield of desired products with the advantage of magnetic separation and reusability of γ-Fe2O3 nanocatalyst.

Polyvinylpolypyrrolidone-bound boron trifluoride: A highly efficient catalyst for acylation of alcohols, phenols and trimethylsilyl ethers by acetic anhydride

Abstract A highly efficient method for the acylation of alcohols, phenols and trimethylsilyl ethers with acetic anhydride is described using polyvinylpolypyrrolidone-bound boron trifluoride (PVPP-BF 3 ) under mild and heterogeneous conditions at room temperature in good to excellent yields. The polyvinylpolypyrrolidone-boron trifluoride complex shows more water tolerant, non-corrosive and stable solid catalyst elevated Lewis acid properties.

Air-stable titanocene bis(perfluorooctanesulfonate) as a new catalyst for acylation of alcohols, phenols, thiols, and amines under solvent-free condition

Air-stable titanocene bis(perfluorooctanesulfonate) [Cp 2Ti(OSO 2C 8F 17) 2] that shows high Lewis acidity was prepared from Cp 2TiCl 2 and AgOSO 2C 8F 17. The compound was characterized by different techniques, and examined as a catalyst for acylation reactions. It was found that using equimolar acetic anhydride as acetylating agent and under solvent-free condition, Cp 2Ti(OSO 2C 8F 17) 2 exhibits high activity and selectivity in the acetylation of various alcohols, phenols, thiols, and amines. Also, good catalytic efficiency is observed in the acylation of 2-phenylethanol across various acylating reagents. The catalyst can be reused without loss of activity in a test of ten cycles. The Cp 2Ti(OSO 2C 8F 17) 2 catalyst affords a simple, efficient and general method for the acylation of alcohols, phenols, thiols, and amines.

Highly efficient heterogenous catalyst for acylation of alcohols and amines using natural ferrous chamosite

An efficient acylation of alcohols and amines employing carboxylic acid as an acylating agent using ferrous chamosite-natural marine clay as the heterogeneous and reusable catalyst has been realized for the first time, through the tuning of the reaction by simple exposure of the reactants to conventional heating or ultrasound irradiation in the absence of any additive under ligand and solvent free conditions.

Thallium(III) Chloride: A Mild and Efficient Catalyst for Acylation of Alcohols, Phenols and Thiols, and for Geminal Diacylation of Aldehydes under Solvent-Free Conditions

Thallium(III) chloride is a simple and efficient catalyst for acylation of alcohols, phenols and thiols. It is also very effective for geminal diacylation of aldehydes. The acylation reaction using acetic anhydride proceeds in excellent yield in the presence of catalytic amounts of thallium(III) chloride (1 mol%) at room temperature within relatively short reaction times (<20 min). Structurally diverse alcohols, phenols, thiols and aldehydes undergo acylation under solvent-free conditions.

SO4 2−/SnO2: Efficient, Chemoselective, and Reusable Catalyst for Acylation of Alcohols, Phenols, and Amines at Room Temperature

SO4 2−/SnO2 was employed for the acylation of a variety of alcohols, phenols, and amines under solvent‐free conditions at room temperature. This method showed preferential selectivity for acetylation of the amino group in the presence of a hydroxyl group. The reported method is simple, mild, and environmentally viable, using several other acid anhydrides at room temperature.

Acylation of alcohols, amines and phenols with acetic anhydride in an efficient manner using [bis(2-hydroxyanil)acetylacetonato]manganese(III)chloride, [Mn(haacac)Cl], as a catalyst. Using this method acylation of a primary NH 2 group in the presence of secondary NH and primary OH have been achieved with high selectivity.

Synthesis and X-ray Crystal Structure of the Novel Organotin Dication [n-Bu2Sn(H2O)4]2+: A Lamellar Layered Structure Assisted by Intermolecular Hydrogen Bonding

The reaction of n-Bu2SnO with 2,5-dimethylbenzenesulfonic acid affords the stable monomeric tin complex [n-Bu2Sn(H2O)4]2+[2,5-Me2-C6H3SO3]-2. The solid-state structure of the molecule reveals that the hydrogen-bonding interaction between the coordinated water and the sulfonate anion moieties leads to an unprecedented two-dimensional layered structure with a planar array of tin atoms. Further, the Lewis acidic dication complex is an extremely good catalyst for acylation of alcohols and phenols.

A New Scandium Complex as an Extremely Active Acylation Catalyst

A new scandium complex prepared from Sc(OAc)3 and trifluoromethanesulfonimide is an extremely different Lewis acid catalyst for acylation of alcohols with carboxylic anhydrides and esterification between free alcohols and carboxylic acids. The new catalyst has stronger catalytic activity than scandium triflate.
