Summary.— The patient presented an unusual series of lesions, namely, uterine myoma with hemorrhage, spinal caries and kyphosis, together with a large bleeding tumor of the kidney. Hysterectomy was first done for the myoma. The kidney hemorrhage filled the bladder with firm clots which decomposed; a vesicovaginal incision gave exit to the offensive clots and averted infection of the kidney growth. The latter was removed by nephrectomy and later under local anesthesia the vesicovaginal fistula was closed. The patient recovered. History.— M. J., aged 27, married, sterile, was an overtall thin mulatto woman. On admission to the Presbyterian Hospital she was able to give little history except that of irregular hemorrhage from the vagina for a year, at times severe. For many years the profession has been traveling along two well-defined roads in the mechanical treatment of spinal caries or Pott's disease of the spine—one, that of anterio-posterior support or leverage fixation, so clearly described and skillfully employed by Dr. C. Fayette Taylor nearly half a century ago. The force and weight given to it by Dr. Taylor is felt to-day in the number of modifications of his brace employed by expert orthopedic surgeons the world over. So much has been published during the past two years in the continental medical journals and in the daily newspapers about the new French method of treating Pott's disease that we feel warranted in briefly narrating the facts and in critically discussing this new surgical procedure. Spinal curvatures are, broadly speaking, of four kinds: 1, simple posterior curvatures; 2, anterior curvatures; 3, lateral curvatures; and 4, the posterior curves or angles of spinal caries. As to the first class of simple posterior curvatures, or the ordinary round shoulders most frequently seen in adolescence and old age, and the posterior curvatures of rachitic infants, nothing so far as I know has been attempted in the way of immediate and forcible straightening under anesthesia. SPINAL INJURIES IN INFANTS.

The subject of spinal injuries in infants is presented to you in order that a discussion by this body of these injuries will determine their relation to the faulty development of the in the young, and to determine the relation between trauma and spinal caries. The traumatic spine may be defined as any injury to the spinal column. Injuries to the in the very young are not infrequent, though the great majority of such injuries are slight. A simple sprain, muscular or bony contusion, sometimes combined with slight shock, is the usual condition following a slight fall as from a cot or sofa. Again a very slight fall or sudden contact with a sharp corner of an object, may produce a true fracture of the spine, usually a fracture of a spinous process.
