Abstract BACKGROUND: Entrepreneurship plays a crucial role in determining the economic fate of nations by generating wealth and employment opportunities, providing various products and services, and contributing to government revenues through taxation. Consequently, there is a strong correlation between entrepreneurship and the economic development of a country. Therefore, we conducted this study to evaluate the level of awareness about entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial opportunities in physiotherapy among physiotherapy students. METHODS: It was an observational study conducted on 123 students of Delhi. A pilot-tested self-administered questionnaire was formulated and circulated to the 3rd and 4th year BPT students and interns to gather data on demographic profiles, awareness levels, knowledge, future career plans in entrepreneurship, and the need for entrepreneurship development (ED) activities at the institutional level. Data synthesis was performed on SPSS 21.0 v and analyzed using a descriptive analysis method. RESULTS: The descriptive data analysis showed that the students were aware of the term “entrepreneurship,” but only 55% were aware of the entrepreneurial opportunities in physiotherapy. However, they were not aware of the characteristics of entrepreneurs, funding opportunities, legal formalities for startups, and entrepreneurial supporting schemes of the government. Results of the study revealed that students were willing to know more entrepreneurial career opportunities in the field of physiotherapy and they also showed interest in joining training program of ED. CONCLUSION: Physiotherapy students were not found to be aware of the entrepreneurial opportunities. Hence, we need to incorporate such training programs in our curriculum to make them aware of such opportunities. Curriculum development will help tailor support systems for empowering future leaders. CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: By having such knowledge, physiotherapy students will be able to start their venture with innovation in treatment techniques and their application.
