MOF derived ZnO/C@(Ni,Co)Se2 core–shell nanostructure on carbon cloth for high-performance supercapacitors

To achieve a high energy density of nickel cobalt bimetallic selenide electrode materials, the key points are on the construction of porous materials and control of the appropriate proportion of active materials. Here, a well-design structure MOF derived ZnO/C@(Ni,Co)Se2 core–shell nanostructure on carbon cloth was prepared for the first time. The ZnO/C@(Ni,Co)Se2 core–shell nanostructure electrode exhibits the ascendant specific capacity of 164.18 mA h g−1 at 1 A g−1. The as-obtained ZnO/C@(Ni,Co)Se2//AC asymmetric supercapacitor shows the superior energy density of 65.67 W h kg−1 at 800 W kg−1, with 97.87% capacitance retention after 10,000 cycles. The stable self-supporting MOF derived porous carbon material as the core not only provides a strong support structure for thin shell nanosheets but also enhances the specific surface area. An appropriate proportion of Ni/Co and the existence of weak electronegative Se is profitable to improve the electronic structure of the (Ni,Co)Se2 thin nanosheet shell. Besides, the synergistic effect between the active materials can also optimize the electrochemical performance of the electrode materials. Thus, our work offers a new strategy for MOF derived porous carbon to construct flexible electrode materials with high electrochemical performance.

Cotton fabrics-derived flexible nitrogen-doped activated carbon cloth for high-performance supercapacitors in organic electrolyte

Activated carbon cloth, due to its excellent flexibility, good conductivity, and high surface area, is featured as a kind of promising material for energy storage devices. However, the non-optimized pore structures limit its application as electrode material in supercapacitors with organic electrolytes, which can provide both high energy density and power density due to the high applied cell voltage. In this paper, nitrogen-doped activated carbon cloth with hollow tubular fiber units, high surface area, controllable hierarchical porous structure, and beneficial surface functional groups, is synthesized via a simple ammonia treatment of commercial cotton fabrics. The resulting organic-electrolyte supercapacitors based on this hierarchical porous hollow carbon cloth exhibit a high specific capacitance (up to 215.9 F g−1 at 1 A g−1), extremely high rate capability (89% from 1 A g−1 to 200 A g−1), small IR drop (0.23 V at 100 A g−1), outstanding cycling stability (98% capacitance retention over 20 000 cycles), as well as good flexibility. This N-doped activated carbon cloth thus overcomes the drawbacks of presently available carbon cloths and opens up a new horizon toward energy storage devices with high energy density at high power density.

NiCo2O4 nanolayer cover on carbon cloth as anode materials for supercapacitors

NiCo2O4 nano-layer covered on surface of carbon cloth for high-performance supercapacitors is successfully fabricated by a one-step route which only involved a modified sol–gel method. The binder-free electrode only with simple layer covering on carbon cloth displays outstanding pseudocapacitive behaviors in 2 M KOH, which exhibits high specific capacitances of 944.5 F g−1 at 1 A g−1 and 702.4 F g−1 at 20 A g−1after activation, as well as excellent cycling stability. The specific capacitance can still retain 859.5 F g−1 (91% retention) at a current density of 1 A g−1 after 3500 cycles.

Mesoporous MnNiCoO4@MnO2 core-shell nanowire/nanosheet arrays on flexible carbon cloth for high-performance supercapacitors

For the first time, a novel three-dimensional (3D) hierarchical mesoporous MnNiCoO4@MnO2 core-shell nanowire/nanosheet arrays hybrid composite with robust adhesion on a carbon cloth (CC) as an integrated self-supported supercapacitor electrode was synthesized via a facile two-step hydrothermal method and a subsequent low temperature annealing process. The synthesized materials were characterized using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photo electron spectroscopy (XPS), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) and electrochemical techniques. The results show that this unique nanostructure merits superiorities such as large surface area, more accessible active sites, better infiltration/diffusion, high conductivity and high electrochemical/mechanical stability. The MnNiCoO4@MnO2 core-shell nanoarrays can achieve a relatively high specific capacitance of 1931Fg−1 at a current density of 0.8Ag−1, a good capacitance retention of 91.2% at a high current density of 6Ag−1 after 6000 cycles, a low equivalent series resistance (ESR) of 0.53Ω, an energy density of 67.1Whkg−1 at a power density of 200Wkg−1 in 6molL−1 KOH electrolyte. The remarkable electrochemical behaviors indicate that the carbon cloth supported hierarchical mesoporous MnNiCoO4@MnO2 core-shell nanowire/nanosheet array electrodes are highly promising for applications like advanced supercapacitor electrodes.

Facile synthesis of well-ordered manganese oxide nanosheet arrays on carbon cloth for high-performance supercapacitors

Well-ordered manganese oxide (MnO2) nanosheet arrays (NSAs) were grown directly on carbon cloth via a simple in situ redox replacement reaction between potassium permanganate (KMnO4) and carbon cloth without any other oxidant or reductant addition. The morphology of MnO2 NSAs was examined by scanning and transmission electron microscopy and the phase structure of nanosheets (NSs) was analyzed by X-ray diffraction spectroscopy. Based on a series of time-dependent experiments, a possible growth process for this structure was proposed. The MnO2 NSAs supported on carbon cloth were directly used as integrated electrodes for electrochemical capacitors. The ordered MnO2 NSAs yielded high-capacitance performance with a high specific capacitance of 2.16 F cm−2 at a charge and discharge current density of 5 mA cm−2 and 1.01 F cm−2 at 20 mA cm−2 with a cycling ability (61.4% of the initial specific capacitance remains after 3000 cycles). The MnO2 nanosheet arrays with large surface area and high degree of ordering, combined with the flexible carbon cloth substrate can offer great promise for large-scale supercapacitor applications.
