Also, there was an error in the equation. It should read: (17) 2) The original Eq. 27 (p. 561) had an error in the denominator. The correct expression is: (27) [Note: this equation is from Levin et al. (Ref. 23) with a correction. In their original paper, r in the numerator is subtracted rather than added. That is apparently a typographical error because, otherwise, the second equation above would not equal 0 or 1 in the limiting cases as indicated.]3) A coefficient was omitted in Eq. 47 (p. 562). The correct equation is: (47) 4) The units for the parameter 33 in Eq. 44 (p. 562) are dyn/cm2, which was not indicated in the original publication. The error in μapp resulted in an overestimate of the segment resistance. When the hydraulic diameter of the capillary, Dh, is 10 μm, the correct segment resistance is 27% lower than the value reported previously. The error increases to about 50% when Dh is 5 μm. Because the pressure difference between the arteriole and the venule was fixed, the error in segment resistance will have relatively little effect on the calculated pressure distribution. Errors in resistance will give rise to comparable errors in flow rate and RBC transit time. The error in μapp has little effect on those results not directly dependent on the flow rate, such as the distributions of pressure, hematocrit, microsphere percentage, neutrophil stop times, aspect ratios, and neutrophil transit time.This article has no references to display.
