The parameters characterising thermal properties, namely Schottky specific heat and associated anomaly in the temperature range 10–750 K, and magnetic properties, namely, principal and mean magnetic susceptibilities, effective magnetic moment, anisotropy and angular dependence of torque in the temperature range 10–400 K have been derived with the help of crystal field studies for the Er3+:CaF2 and Dy3+:CaF2 systems.
