In this paper eddy currents induced in a structural steel produced by a nearby three-phase current are determined. A two dimensional geometry is used for finite element analysis. Several position arrangements of steel are examined. Results show larger force and eddy current loss occur where the steel position is directly above the two outside cables. The results given, are useful for the design of cable trenches in power stations.
