Proposed guidance for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Middle Eastern construction

The Middle East has made steps toward sustainable development, but there is a pressing need for a cohesive strategy for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The guidance proposed in this paper draws inspiration from global best practice, particularly the UK’s PAS 2080:2023 on carbon dioxide management in the built environment, the new option X29 on climate change in NEC4 contracts and the latest advances in building information technology. The guidance provides a comprehensive framework for reducing emissions from the Middle East’s construction industry, integrating carbon dioxide management processes at all stages of a project’s life cycle.

Challenges in the adoption of building information technology (BIM) technology in Indian construction industry (ICI)

Aim: This study aims to identify the challenges hindering the adoption of BIM technology in the ICI and provide insights into ways to overcome these challenges. Methodology: A questionnaire using a Likert scale was developed and distributed to 121 participants working for developers in the ICI. Factor analysis was conducted using SPSS 25 to examine the obtained data and identify the primary reasons that impede the adoption of BIM technology. Findings: Factor analysis of the data identified six main factors accounting for 74.31% of the variance. These factors included regulatory framework, lack of expertise, knowledge, and adoption, compatibility issues, resource limitations, and inadequate demand. Originality Value: The research above is unique since it specifically examines the obstacles that are preventing the widespread use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology in the building sector in India. While there is existing research on BIM adoption in other countries, there is a lack of comprehensive studies on the specific challenges faced by the Indian construction industry. This study provides insights into the main obstacles to BIM adoption in India and identifies six main factors that have not been extensively studied before. Additionally, the study uses a Likert scale questionnaire and factor analysis to analyze the data, which is a unique approach that has not been widely used in previous research on BIM adoption. Implications: The study’s findings offer valuable insights into the primary barriers hindering the adoption of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in the construction sector of India.. The identified factors can help developers and policymakers in the industry overcome these challenges to improve project efficiency and outcomes. This study can also provide a foundation for future investigations into the adoption of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in India and other emerging economies.. The implications of this study can contribute to the broader understanding of technology adoption in the construction industry, which can lead to better decision-making processes and improved project outcomes. Limitations and Scope for Future Research: The research has significant drawbacks. First, the study focused on the Indian construction industry and may not apply to other emerging or industrialized nations. Second, the limited sample size may restrict generalizability. The study solely examined BIM adoption barriers and did not provide solutions. Researchers might create techniques to overcome these obstacles and encourage BIM adoption in the Indian building sector. Finally, the research did not consider contractors, architects, and engineers, who may shed light on BIM adoption issues and solutions.

Smart cities and the internet of things: the impact of it developments on the development of cities and improving the quality of life

The subject of the article's research is the methods and capabilities of information technologies and electronic devices-carriers of the Internet of Things to develop a combined system with the aim of determining the characteristic features. The purpose of the work is to study and analyse the use of smart technologies for a smart city based on a combination of information technologies and Internet of Things devices, as well as to identify key criteria for the development of modern cities with an impact on improving the quality of life for the population. In accordance with the objective, the following tasks have been formulated: to consider the main possibilities of using information technologies in combination with electronic measuring and computing devices of the Internet of Things; to determine the features of building information technology models with the connection of Internet of Things devices to switching networks; analyse the architecture of fog and edge computing for Internet of Things devices; to identify the main risks and cybersecurity issues with encryption of Internet of Things device data using encryption algorithms; to determine the main criteria for each individual system of smart technologies for a smart city; to determine the feasibility of needs with the needs of the population based on the defined criteria. An urgent problem is to identify and study the main possibilities of using smart technologies in order to identify problems related to the feasibility of meeting the needs of the population. This paper considers and investigates the impact of a combined system with a set of smart technologies on improving the quality of life using eight branched systems, namely: "smart" infrastructure, "smart" economy, "smart" environment, "smart" governance, "smart" transport, "smart" services, "smart" people and "smart" life. The set of criteria of each system needs to be analysed and matched with the needs of the population so that the combined smart city system can provide the population with conditions that can improve the quality of life. The scientific novelty of this paper is the development and implementation of the concept of a combined smart city system to meet the needs of the population while improving the quality of life. Results achieved. Smart technologies are based on the use of information technology, data and innovation to achieve sustainable development of individual systems with the definition of criteria, which analyses the following: "smart" infrastructure contributes to the creation of a convenient, efficient and sustainable urban environment; "smart" transport improves traffic and mobility, reduces the negative impact on the environment, increases safety and convenience for citizens; "smart” governance makes a significant contribution to the development of various sectors, promoting the efficient use of resources and improving the quality of life with sustainable development for the population; "smart" environment contributes to the conservation of natural resources, reduces the negative impact on the environment and ensures an improved quality of life for the population; "smart" services ensure the sustainable development of healthcare, finance, tourism logistics, which helps to create a more convenient and efficient environment for consumers, contributing to the improvement of the quality and availability of various services; "smart" people make a significant contribution to the development and application of new opportunities for the development of information technologies in combination with the Internet of Things; "smart" life ensures sustainable development for citizens through the use of technology to improve aspects of everyday life; "smart" economy makes a significant contribution to the implementation of technological solutions and contributes to a more efficient functioning of the country's economy. Conclusions. The results of the study demonstrate the impact of the combined smart city system on improving the quality of life, which is explained by determining the compliance with the needs and conditions of the population. Thus, the combination of criteria of each smart technology allows transforming the city into a general combined system with digital services for the provision of services. The vector of further research will be aimed at developing the considered combined system using digital technologies in order to create a digital model of the "city of the future using appropriate software.

Social Engineering SWOT Analysis in Government-Owned Commercial Banks and National Private Commercial Banks

This research examines the phenomenon of social engineering at government-owned commercial banks and national private commercial banks. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with a literature study. The research results show the bank's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. In addition, several strategies are recommended for banks to prevent social engineering attacks, namely building information technology in banking according to the standards and regulations of the Financial Service Authority (Otoritas Jasa Keuangan), utilizing social media as an educational tool, training employees, monitoring and optimizing data security and banking information technology networks, suppressing the circulation of social issues on behalf of banks that can trigger social engineering, increasing financial literacy and awareness of data security personal customers and employees. To prevent social engineering attacks, banks can implement strategies that are considered adequate.

The Impact of Information Sharing and Inventory Management Practices on Firms’ Performance in Supply Chain Practices

This study’s aim is to conduct an empirical investigation of the impact of supply chain practices on firm performance. The prime objective of the paper is to study the impact of information-sharing practices and inventory management on firm performance. To realize the specified objective of the study, data were gathered from 170 individuals who are familiar with the supply chain practices of the companies and analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM). The result shows a significant direct and indirect effect of information sharing and inventory management practices on firm performance. Generally, the results show that higher information-sharing practices and better inventory management practices lead to greater firm performance; and higher information-sharing leads to improved inventory management, which in turn leads to greater firm performance. Theoretically, the result provides evidence of the effects of information sharing and inventory management on the supply chain practices’ performance in a firm. The managerial implications of the results are enhancing information sharing and inventory management practices by adopting, internalizing, and building information technology into all the business operations to enhance information sharing and inventory management practices to enhance firm performance.

The method of forming informational competence spaces for educational project executives

The work describes the application of competence methods in implementing educational projects. Practices and experience of other universities. It was determined that the planning and monitoring of the educational project should be carried out concerning the specifics of the development of competencies as a rational process of improvement and achievement of individual and collective goals of the executors of this project. With this in mind, understanding the process of competence development is the basis of the practical construction of an educational project aimed at the effective achievement of goals. In addition, developing project executors' competencies can occur consciously through training and indirectly in teamwork. It was established that the task of taking into account the dynamics of transformation and development of the competencies of performers and the connection of this development with the functions of a specific project still needs to be solved. To ensure effective planning and monitoring of an educational project, it is advisable to build information technology to support decision-making based on competency-based methods. The development of such a system is essential for the educational system of the People's Republic of China because universities manage many educational projects with many students, which requires an innovative monitoring system. Moreover, such a system should be able to work out both large-scale projects and small ones, such as, for example, the implementation of a distance learning system within one or several courses. To build such a system, multiple models of identification of the executor of the educational project and a model of transformation of the executor of the educational project were built. Based on them, the method of making information competence spaces is defined. This method is the basis of creating an information technology decision support system for monitoring educational projects.

The study reviews the area of the Smart Home concept, which is an example of home automation, an important area of the Internet of Things. Based on the analysis of relevant sources in the field of research, a number of problems have been identified in the existing approaches to the creation of Smart Home systems.

Mathematical modelling of granulation process in fluidised bed (overview of models)

One of the most common methods of making mineral fertilizers is granulation. Fertilizers in the form of granules have a number of advantages over conventional fertilizers in the form of powder or liquid, namely, ease of transportation, well absorbed and less susceptible to weathering from the soil, convenient to use. To obtain solid particles from liquid starting material such as solutions, emulsions or suspensions, the following processes are used: crystallization, granulation, spray drying. Depending on the focus of the study, the fluidized bed granulation process can be modeled at different levels of abstraction. The dynamics of individual particles is modeled on a microscopic scale. The interaction of a particle with a liquid, equipment or other particles is considered. The next rougher level of abstraction is the mesoscale. Here the particles are divided into classes according to their characteristics. It is assumed that the particles of the class have the same properties and dynamics. On a macroscopic scale, the roughest level of approximation, attention is focused on the integral behavior of the whole set of particles. As a result, the selected characteristic values ​​describe the state of the particle layer. There are different approaches to modeling for each scale. It is proposed to describe the microscopic scale using the hydrodynamics model, the mesoscale using the balance model, and the macroscopic scale using the moments method or the Lagrange-Euler model. A combined balance-hydrodynamics model and a multi-chamber balance model that can be used for the tasks of building information technology for fluidized bed granulation process control technology are also considered.

Information Technology (IT) Users in Tertiary Education Institutions in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe: Case of Security Awareness

Information Technology (IT) expansion exposes organisations in developing countries to IT security risks. Zimbabwe’s tertiary education institutions (TEIs) are not spared. Every year, cyber-attacks increase and become more sophisticated, resulting in losses of personal and financial data for individuals, organisations and governments. As the world is interconnected, small and big organisations share the same internet platform. Therefore, IT security risks that affect one, affect all. When IT users are unaware of the risks and uninformed of ways to protect their IT systems, they remain vulnerable. Like other organisations in Zimbabwe, TEIs are vulnerable to cyber-attacks. The study that directed this article employed a quantitative methodological approach in the collection of the data and its analysis. A sample of 261 respondents was selected from the population of IT users in TEIs in Bulawayo. The results indicated that IT security awareness of IT users in TEIs in Bulawayo is low. This is evidenced by the low IT drivers’ contribution towards building IT users’ security awareness, and inadequate implementation and utilisation of IT security awareness tools. The prevailing phenomenon exposes TEIs in Bulawayo to a high risk of cyber-attacks. The results indicated a positive and significant correlation between IT security drivers’ contribution and IT security awareness tools utilisation in TEIs in Bulawayo. The implication is that an increase in IT security drivers’ contribution and IT security awareness tools utilisation will lead to increased IT security awareness. The study recommends that IT drivers double their contribution towards building IT security awareness through adequate implementation and utilisation of IT security awareness tools. This will safeguard the information that tertiary education institutions generate.

A model intended to choose optimal wooden construction software according to many criteria

Environmental friendliness gains increasing importance for people in constructing modern residential buildings. Wood is a natural polymer with unique properties that make it an excellent choice for the construction of environmentally-friendly new housing. New building technologies have significantly improved the performance of wood as a material. Modern software allows not only to get a 3D-visualization of the project, but to make the house strong and safe, save costs on construction, and reduce the build time of wooden houses. Currently, there are a large number of various software packages for wooden construction, so it may be a problem to choose the appropriate one based on the criteria of the required functionality and cost-effectiveness. Aim. This work aims at the development of a model intended to choose optimal wooden construction software according to many criteria, which will reduce the time of the scientifically grounded decision, and in such a way, increase the efficiency of a wooden house designing process. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to analyze the existing wooden construction software, to consider the criteria for selecting designing programs, to develop a model for scientifically grounded choice of software on many functional and cost criteria in the conditions of fuzzy information; and to provide an example of using this model has been developed. Methodology. A fuzzy multicriteria analysis of variants according to the Bellman-Zade scheme is used. Results. Modern building information technologies have expanded the possibilities of spatial planning of residential, working, shopping, entertainment, sports, and other areas of design. The model for the choice of wooden construction software that allows choosing software according to many functional and cost criteria in the conditions of fuzzy input information is presented. An example of using the developed model for the choice of wooden construction software is given. Practical value. The use of the developed model for wooden construction choice in the conditions of fuzzy information based on many functional and cost criteria will make the choice scientifically grounded.

The Impact of Instagram Stories on Tourists’ Consumption Behavior in Smart City Night Markets

With the development of information technology in Taiwan, night markets have improved their service performance by building information technology technologies, including Wi-Fi, cloud payment and mobile payment services, and QR codes. One of the most commonly used social networking sites among young people in Taiwan is Instagram (IG). In this study, we investigated whether users trust IG to provide sufficient security, and we found that the correctness of the trust information has a significant impact on their software use. This study focused on Taiwan’’s unique night market sightseeing experience and explored the use of Instagram by night market consumers. Questionnaire surveys and systematic sampling methods were used to survey consumers, and the number of valid questionnaires was 340. The results showed that the perceived usefulness and ease of use of IG Stories affected user attitudes, and user attitudes positively impacted behavioral intentions. Moreover, the attitude of night market consumers toward IG Stories was affected by trust, which in turn adjusted user behavior intentions. This research was the first to explore the experience of night market consumers using IG Stories. We concluded that night market vendors should strengthen their trust factor in order to have a positive attitude toward consumers and foster the higher behavioral intentions of consumers, which is essential for the successful promotion and marketing of night markets.

Application of BIM and GIS Technology in Urban and Rural Planning

For a long time, geographic information system (GIS) technology has been widely used in urban and rural planning. This paper first analyzes the background of urban and rural planning, introduces the concept of building information (BIM), and puts forward the building information model. Then the application of mobile off-line GIS is studied, and the characteristics of mobile GIS are known. Secondly, the concept of urban-rural integration is put forward, and two functions of urban-rural planning are found: macro-control means and public interest protection. Evolutionary Game Analysis of BIM Adoption among Stakeholders in PPP Projects

With the development of building information technology, Building Information Modeling (BIM) has become an important way to effectively solve the cross-organization information collaboration of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects, and how to promote the adoption of BIM in PPP projects has become a realistic problem to be solved urgently. This study discusses the adoption of BIM among stakeholders in PPP projects based on prospect theory and evolutionary game theory. A tripartite evolutionary game model including governments, social capitals, and contractors is established. The behavioral evolution mechanism of each stakeholder on BIM adoption is explored by analyzing the evolutionary equilibrium, and the key influencing factors of equilibrium strategy are analyzed by using numerical simulation. The results demonstrate that first, the degree of the cost to all stakeholders involved in the adoption of BIM, as well as the punishment for governments’ passive promotion of BIM, the punishment for social capitals’ passive adoption of BIM and the reward for contractors’ active application of BIM are the key factors affecting evolutionary stability. Second, according to prospect theory, the main stakeholders usually make decisions through subjective judgment and perceived value which ultimately lead to deviation in their behaviors. The deviations will hinder the establishment of ESS point (1, 1, 1) and make the system difficult to converge to the optimal state. Finally, from the perspective of governments, social capitals, and contractors, countermeasures and management implications are put forward to effectively promote the adoption of BIM in PPP projects.

The Effect of Facilitating Conditions on Implementing A Regional Financial Management Information System (SIPKD) at Padang City Hall Goverment

The government is trying to realize the excellent service to the community by building information technology in finance or accounting in relation to the financial management area. The purpose of this study to determine the influence of facilitating conditions on implementing a regional financial management information system (SIPKD). This research was conducted at Padang City Hall government. One hundred questionnaires have sent to companies, and only 80 questionnaires can be used. The data collection techniques uses aquestionnaire prepared by using the UTAUT konstuk. Quantitative analysis techniques and simple linear regression analysis is used as a data analysis technique with the help of SPSS 25. The analysis shows the facilitating conditions positive influence on the implementing a regional financial management information system (SIPKD).

The role of IT practices in facilitating relational and trust capital for superior innovation performance: the case of Taiwanese companies

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to explore the moderating role of information technology (IT) practices in the increase of organizational capacity for generating innovation performance from its relational (internal and external) capital and trust capital.Design/methodology/approachSurvey data has been collected from 102 publicly listed enterprises in Taiwan and is analysed by using symmetric structural equation modelling–partial least squares (SEM–PLS) and asymmetric fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) techniques.FindingsThe findings derived from SEM–PLS show that internal relationships and trust embedded in firms' relationships play a significant role in the innovation performance of Taiwanese enterprises, and reveal a more closed approach to innovation. The results also confirm the important role of IT advancement in amplifying the effect of internal and external relationships and trust formation on innovation performance. One more interesting note, the integration of fsQCA demonstrates several configurations that lead to superior innovation performance.Research limitations/implicationsThe study was limited to Taiwanese companies with at least 200 employees. It might well be that the economically significant small business sector has distinct relationships with stakeholders, trust building strategies and IT practices, and that innovation performance depends on other macroeconomic effects. This study combines symmetric (SEM–PLS) and asymmetric (fsQCA) techniques to improve our understanding of the complementarities between relational and trust capital, and IT practices, and identify configurations that could yield organizational benefits for innovation outcomes.Practical implicationsThis study provides new knowledge about IT utilization in the workplace which practitioners may use to capitalize on internal and external networks and enhance innovation performance.Originality/valueExploring together intellectual capital (IC) components and IT practices, this study merges IC and knowledge management (KM) streams of literature and adds to the prominent discussion on how IC and technology-based KM together contribute to superior innovation performance. In introducing the notion of equifinality, and testing our hypothesis by applying fsQCA, we also provide new ground for methodological discussions in the field of innovation performance.

Electronic Government Development Strategies Using Frameworks COBIT 5

At this time, Information technology in the government or called by electronic government (e-government) is an absolute necessity and must be continuously developed as an acceleration tool in strategic policy and decision making. Utilization of e-government aims to improve performance and productivity, improve budget efficiency, transparency and accountability in the delivery of service activities to the communities. The incessant use of e-government in the government both central and regional, of course, not only produces benefit or value to the organization, but also gives a variety of problems and obstacles. To guarantee the benefit and value by using e-government and minimize various problems and obstacles, it is necessary to build information technology governance in the e-government development. In the information technology governance, an organization does not only build information technology facilities and infrastructure, but how information technology is used be able to achieve organizational goals, is able to play a role in the organization's strategic decision making processes and policies and remains in harmony with the architecture framework of information technology development that is has been established. To achieve information technology good governance, strategies are needed in developing existing e-government. The first step is to evaluate the implementation of e-government. Evaluation is done by measuring the level of maturity of e-government that has been applied. This measurement includes a strategic plan for information technology management, maintenance of information technology facilities and infrastructure, management of information technology services that are sustainable and the last is oversight of information technology governance. The scope of this research is e-government which has been implemented in the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The research method used is a quantitative method using a questionnaire instrument and using the 5th edition of the Control Objective for Information and Related Technology (COBIT) framework model to determine the level of maturity in the information technology governance process. This study will provide an overview of information technology governance has been implemented and produce recommendations that is needed to improve and develop a comprehensive information technology governance.

Abstract. The aim of the study is to systematize the principles of building information technologies that are essential from the point of view of information risk assessment, and to form, on this basis, a model that provides the ability to analyze risk factors when building secure information systems. Methods: when developing the model, the methods of game theory and set theory were used. The result: the model is focused on taking into account the conflicting nature of interaction between information technologies and sources of threats to information security The information technology system is considered as an interconnected set of technologies of the warring parties, providing the processes of practical activity of one of them, which allows, on a unified methodological basis, to analyze the vulnerabilities of information technologies, scenarios for the implementation of threats, as well as to optimize technological solutions for information protection. The model is characterized by a high degree of generalization, since its main elements are abstract entities: a set of information technologies used by the parties; sets of information operations, implemented by technologies; information and control relationships on sets of technologies and operations. To use the model requires a preliminary development of the list and characteristics of these sets and relations in relation to specific information technologies
