The present study was conducted on Beetal goat to study the suitability of five growth curve models and to estimate associated genetic parameters under most appropriate growth model using 1501 records of weights from birth to 12 months of age pertained to 60 males and 241 females for the period of year 2004–2019. Five growth models viz., Brody, Gompertz, Logistic, Bertalanffy, Negative exponential used and compared using goodness of fit criteria. Comparative analysis on the basis of goodness fit criteria revealed that Brody model was found to be most suitable model. The overall estimates of growth curve traits under viz., mature weight (A), inflexion point (B) and rate of maturation (k) under Brody model were 28.21 ± 0.9, 0.91 ± 0.01 and 0.13 ± 0.01, respectively. The least-square estimates showed that period of birth, sex, type of birth and weight of doe at kidding had significant (p < 0.05) influence on growth curve traits. The male and single kids showed high maturing rate than female and twin kids, respectively. The estimates of heritability for A, B and k were 0.10, 0.05 and 0.27, respectively. The moderate additive variability for maturing rate may be exploit for further genetic improvement through selection. It was concluded that Brody model can be considered for formulating breeding, feeding and management for profitable goat farming.
