Background: Low back pain (LBP) is a discomfort in the lower region of the spine, with an overall prevalence of 80%, often associated with absenteeism and limitations. Influenced by biopsychosocial factors, it is a public health problem in Brazil, with a high economic and social impact. Pourpose: To identify the prevalence and risk factors associated with low back pain, and its impacts on the quality of life of the Brazilian population. Methods: This is an integrative review using SciELO and PubMed databases, with descriptors in Portuguese and English between the months of August and October 2024. It included cross-sectional and retrospective studies on low back pain, prevalence, and risk factors in Brazilian adults. Articles from other countries, non-adult populations, studies different from the criteria, pregnant women, spine surgeries were excluded. Results: The results indicated a significant prevalence in women, among the most prevalent risk factors for low back pain were: age over 25 years, low educational level, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, obesity, hypertension, marital status and negative perception of health. In addition, exposure to activities with long periods of standing and heavy lifting was relevant. Conclusion: This review identified a high prevalence of low back pain in the Brazilian adult population and risk factors, with a negative impact on quality of life. The limitation in the number of studies included highlights the need for more research and greater understanding on the part of health professionals, the need for prevention and management strategies aimed at public health for better management of this condition.
