Functional dyspepsia (FD) refers to a group of clinical syndromes characterized by persistent or recurrent upper abdominal pain, upper abdominal distension, early satiety, belching, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, and other upper abdominal discomfort symptoms. Organic lesions are excluded after examination. FD is a common functional gastrointestinal disease in clinical practice, with no characteristic clinical manifestations and often characterized by one or a group of symptoms. Its symptoms can also change during the course of the disease. In traditional Chinese medicine, although there is no name for functional dyspepsia, relevant discussions can still be found in ancient Chinese medicine books based on its etiology and clinical manifestations. This disease belongs to the categories of "stomach pain", "fullness of the stomach", "hiccup", "vomiting" in traditional Chinese medicine. The disease is located in the spleen and stomach and is closely related to liver and gallbladder dysfunction. In recent years, the traditional Chinese medicine community has conducted extensive clinical research on this disease. This article reviews the current status of clinical research on functional dyspepsia in traditional Chinese medicine.
