OBJECTIVES: The determination of long-term patient satisfaction after abdominal sacrocolpopexy for posthysterectomy vaginal vault prolapse with mesh and bone anchor fixation to sacral segments 3 and 4. METHODS: Validated short forms of the Urogenital Distress Inventory (UDI-6) and Incontinence Impact Questionnaire (IIQ-7) were sent to 25 patients operated between 1997 and 2003. RESULTS: Patient response was 100%. Patient satisfaction after a median follow-up of 7 years (range 4.5ĝ€10) was 80%. Two patients had a repeat sacrocolpopexy for recurrent vaginal vault prolapse (8%). There were no erosions or other late complications. Eight patients (32%) mentioned positive UDI-6 and IIQ-7 items with cumulative scores of 71 ± 33 and 67 ± 31 for the UDI-6 and IIQ-7, respectively (mean ± SD). UDI-6 and IIQ-7 scores were significantly lower in the 3 satisfied patients with positive items. CONCLUSIONS: Long-term patient-focused outcome after abdominal sacrocolpopexy with mesh and bone anchor fixation is comparable with the success rate of traditional abdominal sacrocolpopexy.
