Enabling Demonstrated Consent for Biobanking with Blockchain and Generative AI.

Participation in research is supposed to be voluntary and informed. Yet it is difficult to ensure people are adequately informed about the potential uses of their biological materials when they donate samples for future research. We propose a novel consent framework which we call "demonstrated consent" that leverages blockchain technology and generative AI to address this problem. In a demonstrated consent model, each donated sample is associated with a unique non-fungible token (NFT) on a blockchain, which records in its metadata information about the planned and past uses of the sample in research, and is updated with each use of the sample. This information is accessible to a large language model (LLM) customized to present this information in an understandable and interactive manner. Thus, our model uses blockchain and generative AI technologies to track, make available, and explain information regarding planned and past uses of donated samples.

Research on motion control strategy of athlete muscle training based on blockchain and visual image analysis

Muscle training is an important part of athletes’ physical training. Its goal is to keep athletes in high intensity and improve sports performance in physical training. With the continuous improvement of the level of competitive sports, there are still many problems in the training of competitive athletes. The research on the control strategies of some technical movements in the process of athletes’ muscle development would help to improve the efficiency and effect of athletes’ training. By analyzing and quant description of muscle movement control process based on blockchain and visual image processing technology, the muscle movement control rule is discussed and then a complete movement database is constructed. At the same time, combined with the sports experiment method and cognitive behavioral theory, this paper analyzed the exercise load, exercise time allocation, muscle training time allocation methods and the corresponding muscle training strategy selection methods under different muscle states, providing theoretical basis for athletes to conduct muscle strength training scientifically and efficiently. This paper first analyzed the importance of athletes’ muscle training action control. After that, the research was mainly carried out from the following two aspects. The first is to analyze the motion control strategy of athlete muscle training based on blockchain and visual image, and summarize its characteristics. The second is to use electronic imaging technology to analyze the data related to posture control in athletes’ muscle training, and explore the characteristics and changes of muscle posture. At last, this paper put forward relevant algorithms about visual images and conducted experimental research on athletes’ physical indicators and performance under different muscle training according to the research in this paper. It was concluded that the score ratio of athletes’ performance after muscle training action control was 7.39% higher than that of general muscle training. Therefore, it is very important to strengthen the research of movement technology in muscle training and analyze the influence of some training control strategies on the development of athletes’ muscles in training.

Trends in the dynamic evolution of blockchain and circular economy: A literature review and bibliometric analysis

AbstractThe intersection of blockchain technology and circular economy (CE) practices holds significant potential for enhancing sustainability, transparency, and efficiency. This study conducts a comprehensive bibliometric analysis to explore the current research landscape in this domain. Key findings indicate a rapid growth in publications, highlighting a burgeoning interest in leveraging blockchain for CE initiatives. The analysis identifies critical approaches such as enhancing supply chain transparency, improving resource management, and facilitating product lifecycle tracking. However, the integration of blockchain into CE practices presents challenges, including technical complexities, scalability issues, and regulatory hurdles. Addressing these challenges requires interdisciplinary and cross‐sectoral collaboration, as well as continuous research and innovation. Future research should focus on the integration of emerging technologies with blockchain, longitudinal studies on long‐term impacts, socio‐economic implications, and the development of regulatory frameworks. This study contributes to the existing body of knowledge by providing unique insights and outlining potential research directions at the intersection of blockchain and CE.

When ChatGPT Meets Smart Contract Vulnerability Detection: How Far Are We?

With the development of blockchain technology, smart contracts have become an important component of blockchain applications. Despite their crucial role, the development of smart contracts may introduce vulnerabilities and potentially lead to severe consequences, such as financial losses. Meanwhile, large language models, represented by ChatGPT, have gained great attentions, showcasing great capabilities in code analysis tasks. In this paper, we presented an empirical study to investigate the performance of ChatGPT in identifying smart contract vulnerabilities. Initially, we evaluated ChatGPT's effectiveness using a publicly available smart contract dataset. Our findings discover that while ChatGPT achieves a high recall rate, its precision in pinpointing smart contract vulnerabilities is limited. Furthermore, ChatGPT's performance varies when detecting different vulnerability types. We delved into the root causes for the false positives generated by ChatGPT, and categorized them into four groups. Second, by comparing ChatGPT with other state-of-the-art smart contract vulnerability detection tools, we found that ChatGPT's F-score is lower than others for 3 out of the 7 vulnerabilities. In the case of the remaining 4 vulnerabilities, ChatGPT exhibits a slight advantage over these tools. Finally, we analyzed the limitation of ChatGPT in smart contract vulnerability detection, revealing that the robustness of ChatGPT in this field needs to be improved from two aspects: its uncertainty in answering questions; and the limited length of the detected code. In general, our research provides insights into the strengths and weaknesses of employing large language models, specifically ChatGPT, for the detection of smart contract vulnerabilities.

AI-Enhanced Blockchain for Scalable IoT-Based Supply Chain

Purpose: The integration of AI with blockchain technology is investigated in this study to address challenges in IoT-based supply chains, specifically focusing on latency, scalability, and data consistency. Background: Despite the potential of blockchain technology, its application in supply chains is hindered by significant limitations such as latency and scalability, which negatively impact data consistency and system reliability. Traditional solutions such as sharding, pruning, and off-chain storage introduce technical complexities and reduce transparency. Methods: This research proposes an AI-enabled blockchain solution, ABISChain, designed to enhance the performance of supply chains. The system utilizes beliefs, desires, and intentions (BDI) agents to manage and prune blockchain data, thus optimizing the blockchain’s performance. A particle swarm optimization method is employed to determine the most efficient dataset for pruning across the network. Results: The AI-driven ABISChain platform demonstrates improved scalability, data consistency, and security, making it a viable solution for supply chain management. Conclusions: The findings provide valuable insights for supply chain managers and technology developers, offering a robust solution that combines AI and blockchain to overcome existing challenges in IoT-based supply chains.

DC-SoC: Optimizing a Blockchain Data Dissemination Model Based on Density Clustering and Social Mechanisms

Due to its partially decentralized and highly scalable features, the consortium blockchain has currently overtaken other blockchain technologies as the one most frequently used and studied across various industries. However, performance issues such as low transaction efficiency and redundant communication processes continue to hinder the development of consortium blockchains. In the Hyperledger Fabric consortium blockchain system, transaction efficiency is largely influenced by the consensus protocol and broadcast protocol. This paper introduces a novel consortium blockchain network model, DC-SoC, focused on optimizing broadcast protocols. By incorporating the concept of density clustering, a stable propagation structure is established for the blockchain network, thus optimizing data dissemination in the Gossip protocol. Additionally, the concept of social networks is integrated, using trustworthiness scores and economic incentives to evaluate node security. The experimental results demonstrate that when DC-SoC is applied in a large-scale consortium blockchain environment, it significantly improves communication performance between nodes and ensures transmission reliability.

Blockchain and NoSQL: Enhancing Throughput via a Deep Learning‐Based Hybrid Architecture

ABSTRACTAny data structure used to store information can be considered a database. Blockchain technology, at its core, is no more than a ledger to store information about transactions. In recent years, such technology has gained immense popularity in a wide range of applications. However, scalability and throughput are major challenges of the Blockchain technology since applications and APIs have much lower throughput compared to non‐Blockchain ones. Several studies showed that the integration of the NoSQL paradigm along with a Blockchain pipeline enhances the overall throughput and scalability of the system, as well as the possibility of handling both on‐chain and off‐chain data. The goal of this paper is therefore to study how the advantages of both technologies can be capitalized on to enhance the system capabilities and to finally put forward a novel hybrid architecture that mixes NoSQL and Blockchain characteristics using Deep Learning techniques.

Exploring Perspectives of Blockchain Technology and Traditional Centralized Technology in Organ Donation Management: A Comprehensive Review

Background/Objectives: The healthcare sector is rapidly growing, aiming to promote health, provide treatment, and enhance well-being. This paper focuses on the organ donation and transplantation system, a vital aspect of healthcare. It offers a comprehensive review of challenges in global organ donation and transplantation, highlighting issues of fairness and transparency, and compares centralized architecture-based models and blockchain-based decentralized models. Methods: This work reviews 370 publications from 2016 to 2023 on organ donation management systems. Out of these, 85 publications met the inclusion criteria, including 67 journal articles, 2 doctoral theses, and 16 conference papers. About 50.6% of these publications focus on global challenges in the system. Additionally, 12.9% of the publications examine centralized architecture-based models, and 36.5% of the publications explore blockchain-based decentralized models. Results: Concerns about organ trafficking, illicit trade, system distrust, and unethical allocation are highlighted, with a lack of transparency as the primary catalyst in organ donation and transplantation. It has been observed that centralized architecture-based models use technologies such as Python, Java, SQL, and Android Technology but face data storage issues. In contrast, blockchain-based decentralized models, mainly using Ethereum and a subset on Hyperledger Fabric, benefit from decentralized data storage, ensure transparency, and address these concerns efficiently. Conclusions: It has been observed that blockchain technology-based models are the better option for organ donation management systems. Further, suggestions for future directions for researchers in the field of organ donation management systems have been presented.

By leveraging blockchain technology, the system enables real-time tracking of products from farm to consumer, ensuring data integrity and reducing the risk of food fraud. Each transaction is recorded on a decentralized ledger, allowing stakeholders—farmers, distributors, retailers, and consumers—to access accurate information regarding product origins, handling processes, and quality metrics. This traceability system not only fosters consumer trust but also assists in compliance with regulatory standards and enhances food safety by enabling quick identification of contamination sources. Quantum cryptography, with its quantum-resistant algorithms, offers enhanced protection for CBDC transactions, ensuring long-term security and privacy. Simultaneously, blockchain-based social media platforms provide a decentralized structure that can prevent the dissemination of false information by ensuring transparency and authenticity through cryptographic verification and consensus mechanisms. These platforms also facilitate decentralized identity management, empowering users to verify content without relying on centralized authorities. By combining quantum cryptography’s secure framework with blockchain’s decentralized transparency, this dual approach creates a more secure digital ecosystem that not only safeguards financial transactions but also strengthens democratic processes. The paper further addresses the regulatory and technical challenges associated with implementing these technologies and their potential to shape a more secure, transparent, and accountable future.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) has revolutionised global interactions through the Internet of Things (IoT), connecting over 40 billion devices by 2030, raising significant security, protection, and privacy concerns. Blockchain technology offers a decentralised, secure, and transparent solution for data sharing and storage, leveraging its core characteristics—immutability, data integrity, transparency, and consensus—to enable tamper-proof records, real-time tracking, and secure data sharing in supply chain management and healthcare. Despite high implementation costs, blockchain-IoT convergence promises transformative benefits, including enhanced efficiency, reduced costs, and improved security. This study provides an in-depth analysis of blockchain's applications in IoT, highlighting its potential to enhance data security and privacy, improve supply chain management, facilitate secure healthcare data exchange, and enable real-time tracking and monitoring. Future research directions include scalability solutions, interoperability protocols, regulatory frameworks, blockchain-based supply chain management, and quantum-resistant blockchain networks.

Decentralised Governance in Football: Feasibility of DAO Implementation

Football clubs’ increasing commercialisation and privatisation have created a significant gap between clubs and supporters, necessitating innovative solutions to reconnect clubs with their fans. Thus, this article examines the feasibility and implications of implementing Decentralised Autonomous Organisations (DAOs) in the governance of football clubs. Utilising blockchain technology, DAOs offer a novel governance model that enhances transparency, accountability, and fan engagement. Through a qualitative research design, this study explores the potential benefits and challenges of DAO adoption in football clubs. Key findings highlight the potential for increased financial resources through decentralised fundraising, democratised decision-making, and improved operational efficiency via automated smart contracts. However, significant challenges remain, including legal uncertainties, technical vulnerabilities, financial risks, and governance complexities. To address these challenges, we suggest hybrid governance models that integrate traditional structures with DAO elements, phased implementation through pilot projects, and robust stakeholder engagement strategies. The findings provide valuable implications for football clubs and other organisations contemplating the adoption of decentralised governance models.

Performance enhancement in blockchain based IoT data sharing using lightweight consensus algorithm

The proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) devices generates vast amounts of data, traditionally stored, processed, and analyzed using centralized systems, making them susceptible to attacks. Blockchain offers a solution by storing and securing IoT data in a distributed manner. However, the low performance and poor scalability of blockchain technology pose significant challenges for its application in IoT networks. The primary obstacle is the distributed consensus protocol, while ensuring data transparency, integrity, and immutability in a decentralized and untrusted circumstances which often compromises scalability. To address this issue, this paper introduces the use of the Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS) consensus algorithm and sharding techniques to enhance scalability in blockchain-based IoT networks. Experimental results indicate that system throughput increases synchronously with the test load. Our findings reveal a tradeoff between throughput, latency, and up-downstream time on the Inter Planetary File System (IPFS). Given the critical importance of latency and throughput in IoT networks, the results demonstrate that DPoS offers high throughput, parallel processing, and robust security while efficiently scaling the network. Furthermore, at a test load of 500 Transactions Per Second (TPS), the system achieves a maximum throughput of approximately 11.094 ms. However, when the test load exceeds 2000 TPS, the total processing time for transactions extends to 11.205 ms. This method is particularly suitable for constrained IoT networks. Compared to previous edge computing-based approaches, our scheme demonstrates superior throughput performance.

Legal Protection of Notaries in Document Validation through Technology-Based Systems: A Comparative Legal Review of Indonesia, the United States, the Netherlands, and Australia

This paper examines the legal framework and challenges notaries face in adopting technology-based systems for document validation in Indonesia, with a comparative analysis involving the United States, the Netherlands, and Australia. Indonesia's legal framework, particularly Law No. 2 of 2014 on the Office of Notary, has yet to fully accommodate electronic signatures and remote notarization. The requirement for in-person meetings for authenticating notarial acts creates a regulatory barrier to implementing cyber notary services. Furthermore, Indonesian notaries face limited access to essential data systems, such as Dukcapil (Civil Registration Directorate) and BPN (National Land Agency), complicating the verification of personal identity and property documents. In contrast, the United States has adopted e-notary systems, using blockchain technology to ensure data integrity and mitigate fraud risks. The Netherlands provides an integrated platform, allowing notaries to validate documents remotely by accessing national databases in real time. Meanwhile, Australia has implemented a Digital Identity Program to facilitate efficient online authentication of documents. These innovations demonstrate how interoperability, regulatory flexibility, and digital literacy can enhance notary services and legal certainty. This paper proposes regulatory reforms in Indonesia, including revising existing laws to support remote notarization and electronic signatures. Second, developing integrated data platforms for real-time access. Third, providing training programs for notaries to adopt new technologies and ensure data security. By aligning Indonesia’s legal framework with international best practices, cyber notary services can enhance efficiency, security, and legal protection for both notaries and the public, meeting the demands of the digital era.Comparison

IDENTIFICATION AND LOCALIZATION OF VULNERABILITIES IN SMART CONTRACTS USING ATTENTION VECTORS ANALYSIS IN A BERT-BASED MODEL

Context. With the development of blockchain technology and the increasing use of smart contracts, which are automatically executed in blockchain networks, the significance of securing these contracts has become extremely relevant. Traditional code auditing methods often prove ineffective in identifying complex vulnerabilities, which can lead to significant financial losses. For example, the reentrancy vulnerability that led to the DAO attack in 2016 resulted in the loss of 3.6 million ethers and the split of the Ethereum blockchain network. This underscores the necessity for early detection of vulnerabilities. Objective. The objective of this work is to develop and test an innovative approach for identifying and localizing vulnerabilities in smart contracts based on the analysis of attention vectors in a model using BERT architecture. Method. The methodology described includes data preparation and training a transformer-based model for analyzing smart contract code. The proposed attention vector analysis method allows for the precise identification of vulnerable code segments. The use of the CodeBERT model significantly improves the accuracy of vulnerability identification compared to traditional methods. Specifically, three types of vulnerabilities are considered: reentrancy, timestamp dependence, and tx.origin vulnerability. The data is preprocessed, which includes the standardization of variables and the simplification of functions. Results. The developed model demonstrated a high F-score of 95.51%, which significantly exceeds the results of contemporary approaches, such as the BGRU-ATT model with an F-score of 91.41%. The accuracy of the method in the task of localizing reentrancy vulnerabilities was 82%. Conclusions. The experiments conducted confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed solution. Prospects for further research include the integration of more advanced deep learning models, such as GPT-4 or T5, to improve the accuracy and reliability of vulnerability detection, as well as expanding the dataset to cover other smart contract languages, such as Vyper or LLL, to enhance the applicability and efficiency of the model across various blockchain platforms. Thus, the developed CodeBERT-based model demonstrates high results in detecting and localizing vulnerabilities in smart contracts, which opens new opportunities for research in the field of blockchain platform security.
