Nanomaterials are gaining prominence in industries such as construction and medicine. Several parameters like durability and early strength development can be enhanced through the incorporation of nanomaterials into cementitious composites. The major challenge is to achieve uniform dispersion of nanomaterials within the composite’s matrix. The present study is an interdisciplinary research which combines concrete technology and nanotechnology with powder technology to develop a blended binary mixture in powder form with uniform dispersion of nano-silica (NS) as the active ingredient with the cement as the primary ingredient. The fundamental idea of this research is to understand the influence of mixers on the mixing pattern and the dead zones. For this purpose, the powder blending in conical mixer and mortar mixer were simulated using discrete element method (DEM) based software and it was capable predicting the mixing pattern and dead zones of the mixers.
