METHODS We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 324 patients who had undergone nephroureterectomy and bladder cuffing for UTTCC from January 1995 to October 2010. The data of 289 patients were analyzed after excluding patients who had concomitant tumor at renal pelvis and ureter at the time of diagnosis. Patients were divided into two groups based on the location of the tumor (renal pelvis vs. ureter). Clinical features, operative results, and bladder recurrence rate between 2 groups were compared. Preoperative factors for the bladder recurrence in each group were analyzed separately using univariate and multivariate binary logistic regression. RESULTS Patients were younger (65.0í¾9.0 vs. 60.4í¾11.0, p<0.001) and the tumor was more multifocal (16.9% vs. 3.8%, p<0.001) in ureter group. Howere, there was no difference in the bladder recurrence rate or time to recur between 2 groups. Ureteroscopy was performed more often in ureter group (48.5% vs. 27.0%, p<0.001). In renal pelvis tumor group, history of gross hematuria (p=0.040), gender (p=0.031), and ureteroscopy before nephroureteretomy (p<0.001) were independent factors for the bladder recurrence. In ureter tumor group, history of gross hematuria (p=0.040), gender (p=0.031) were the independent factors for the bladder recurrence. CONCLUSIONS The predictive factors for the bladder recurrence after nephroureterectomy varied based on the tumor location. Diagnostic ureteroscopy was an independent factor for the bladder recurrence in cases of renal pelvis tumor. In order to reduce the bladder recurrence rate after nephroureterectomy, above findings should be considered in making decision for managing UTTCC. © 2013 by American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetails Volume 189Issue 4SApril 2013Page: e280-e281 Peer Review Report Advertisement Copyright & Permissions© 2013 by American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.MetricsAuthor Information Hyeon Jun Jang Seoul, Korea, Republic of More articles by this author Younseok Suh Seoul, Korea, Republic of More articles by this author Hyung Joon Kim Daejon, Korea, Republic of More articles by this author Hyun Hwan Sung Seoul, Korea, Republic of More articles by this author Seol Ho Choo Seoul, Korea, Republic of More articles by this author Hwang Gyun Jeon Seoul, Korea, Republic of More articles by this author Heung Jae Park Seoul, Korea, Republic of More articles by this author Dong Soo Ryu Seoul, Korea, Republic of More articles by this author Byong Chang Jeong Seoul, Korea, Republic of More articles by this author Seong Il Seo Seoul, Korea, Republic of More articles by this author Hyun Moo Lee Seoul, Korea, Republic of More articles by this author Han Yong Choi Seoul, Korea, Republic of More articles by this author Seong Soo Jeon Seoul, Korea, Republic of More articles by this author Expand All Advertisement Advertisement PDF downloadLoading ...
