At EB'99, held this year April 17–21 in Washington, D.C., the AAA will organize a series of 18 Scientific Symposia. The individuals organizing these special events and the invited speakers participating therein are recognized scientists in their respective areas. The following is a summary of these symposia, the organizers and speakers as tentatively planned: Drs. C.G. Plopper, D.M. Hyde, and R.D. Specian will organize a symposium entitled Imaging Workshop: Understanding Your Images; Basics of Microscopic Imaging and Quantitation. Drs. M. Watanabe and K.K. Linask will be serving as Co-Chairs and invited speakers will include Drs. J.M. Hurle, S. Webb, M.L. Kirby, and J.A. McDonald. A symposium entitled Estrogen and Estrogen Receptors in Tissues and Metabolism will be organized by Dr. R.E. Papka and invited speakers will include Drs. K.S. Korach, J.A. McLachlan, and Merry Jo Oursler. Drs. J.W. Lough, A.R. Sinning, and S.A. Miller will organize a symposium entitled Recent Findings in Bone and Cartilage Development and Remodeling. Invited speakers will include Drs. P. Ducy, V. Rosen, L.A. Opperman, and S.L. Teitelbaum. A symposium entitled Trends in Imaging: Living Tissues will be organized by Drs. R.D. Specian and S. Erlandson. A symposium entitled Neuroplasticity in Neocortex and Archicortex: Both Sides of the Synapse will be organized by Dr. E.C. Azmitia as part of the Cajal Club program. Drs. G.C. Schoenwolf and R.L. Drake will organize a symposium entitled Young Anatomists in Transition: Strategies for Success. Invited speakers will include Drs. M. Vetter, A. Poznanski, and Karen Augustine. A symposium entitled Biomedical Graduate Programs in the Twenty-First Century: The Postdoctoral Experience (Educational) will be organized by Drs. R.R. Cardell and R.L. Drake. Invited speakers will include Drs. R. Kasturi, C.D. Gaddy, W. Schaefer, and S.B. Sample. Dr. Peter Satir will organize a symposium entitled Molecular Motors: Effects in Cell and Developmental Biology and invited speakers will include Drs. R.E. Cheney, J. Scholey, and M. Brueckner. A symposium entitled Cardiac Signalling: ECM to the Nucleus will be organized by Dr. T.K. Borg and invited speakers will include Drs. R. Price, A. Samarel, M.A. Sussman, and C. Glembotski. A symposium entitled The Role of Neurokinins in Inflammation and Immunoregulation and Epithelial Repair will be organized by Dr. D.M. Hyde and invited speakers will include Drs. D. Ganea, N.P. Gerard, E.S. Schelegle, and Steven White. Dr. William T. Greenough will organize a symposium entitled Anatomical Plasticity in Learning and Memory. Drs. J.L. Olds and J.V. Sanchez-Andres will organize a symposium entitled Developmental Neurobiology: Current Anatomical Perspectives, and invited speakers will include Drs. P. Rakic and G.C. Schoenwolf. A symposium entitled Apoptosis In Vivo will be organized and speakers will be announced. A symposium entitled Extracellular Matrix and Signalling will be organized by Drs. K.H. Svoboda and R.V. Iozzo. Invited speakers will include Drs. G. Yancopoulos, M. Bissell, and R. Ross. Drs. A.W. Vogl and D.L. DeSha will organize a symposium entitled Maintaining Anatomy in Changing Medical Curricula. Invited speakers will include Drs. R.C. Lantz, R.L. Drake, B.F. Griffin, and R.B. Trelease. Dr. A. Dalley will organize a symposium entitled Clinical Anatomist: The Teaching and Learning of Anatomy as Revealed by Cross-Sectional and Other Imaging Technologies. Invited speakers will include Drs. D. Dean, J.D. Keller, and B.R. Smith. A symposium entitled Lung Development: The Impact of Injury will be organized by Drs. K.H. Albertine and W.V. Cardosa. Invited speakers will include C.G. Plopper, M.E. Sunday, and R.C. Boucher.
