Awareness of Nursing Students’ Biomedical Ethics and Attitudes toward Withdrawal of Life-Sustaining Treatment

Purpose This study was done to analyze nursing students’ attitudes to life-sustaining treatment by measuring their awareness of biomedical ethics and resulting attitude toward withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment. Methods This study was a descriptive research to assess the level of nursing students’ awareness of biomedical ethics, attitude toward withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment, and correlations between these variables. After the nursing students signed a consent form they were assessed. Data collection was done from September 1 to October 25, 2016, and analyzed using SPSS 23.0 WIM Program. Results There was a negative correlation and significant difference between nursing students’ awareness of biomedical ethics and attitude toward withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment. There was a significant correlation among attitude toward withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment and medical ethics, mortality ethics. Conclusion The findings in the study indicate that it is necessary to provide nursing students with easy access to continuous education to help them establish an acceptable view of withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment. 간호대학생과 일반대학생의 생명의료윤리의식 영향요인 비교

본 연구는 간호대학생과 일반대학생의 생명의료윤리의식에 영향을 미치는 요인을 탐색하기 위한 서술적 비 교조사연구이다. 본 연구를 위해 S시의 일개 종합대학의 간호대학생과 일반대학생 총 382명을 대상으로 구조화된 설 문지로 자료를 수집하였다. 연구결과 생명의료윤리의식의 정도는 평균평점 4점 만점에 간호대학생 3.04점, 일반대학 생 3.12점으로, 두 군 모두 생명의료윤리의식 정도가 보통 이상으로 나타났으며, 일반대학생이 간호대학생보다 생명 의료윤리의식이 유의하게 높았다. 생명의료윤리의식에 영향을 미치는 요인으로 간호대학생은 생명존중의식과 지각된 윤리가치관이 높을수록, 일반대학생은 생명존중의식이 높을수록, 성태도가 보수적일수록, 자녀 중심적 의식이 높을수 록 생명의료윤리의식이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 또한 간호대학생과 일반대학생 두 군 모두 생명의료윤리의식에 영향 을 미치는 가장 강력한 예측 변수는 생명존중의식으로 나타났다. 따라서 미래 의료인이 될 간호대학생의 생명의료윤 리의식을 높이기 위해 교과 과정에 윤리교과목의 학점 비중을 높이고 학점과 병행한 다양한 매체 활용 및 특강 등 을 통해 윤리교육의 양적, 질적 수준이 제고되어야 할 것이다.

간호대학생의 생명의료윤리 의식수준 및 영향요인

This study was designed to assess the level of concern and awareness of biomedical ethics among nursing students and to identify the factors that might be influencing or correlated with nursing students’ level of awareness of biomedical ethics. Participants were 435 nursing students in one nursing college in South Korea. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, an independent t-test, a one way ANOVA, a Scheffé test, a Pearson Correlation, and a Multiple Regression. The most influential factor for awareness of biomedical ethics was concern of bioethics (β=.517, p<.000), followed by teaching methods (β=.129, p=0.02), age (β=.115, p=.004), desire to study ethics (β=.103, p=.011), interesting teaching methods (β=.096, p=.016), effective teaching methods (β=.090, p=.016) and information source (β=.079, p=.026). These factors accounted for 34.9% of the variance in awareness of biomedical ethics (F=158.279, p=.000). Using the results of this study strategies can be developed to increase the awareness of biomedical ethics among nursing students.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship of biomedical ethics awareness, self-esteem, family strengths between non-nursing college students and nursing college students. The participants were 345 students in South Korea. The statistical analyzed include descriptive statistic of the respondents’ general characteristics, an the data were analyzed with a t-test and a correlation using the SPSS WIN 20.0 program. The average score of nursing college students for biomedical ethics awareness was 2.89±.20 (using a 4-point Likert scale) and the average score of non-nursing college students was 2.87±.23. Nursing college students and non-nursing college of biomedical ethics awareness in the artificial insemination of factors appeared to have meaningful difference (t=2.64, p<.001). Biomedical ethics awareness showed a positive correlation with self-esteem(r=.212, p<.001). And right to life of fetus of biomedical ethics awareness showed a positive correlation with family strengths. The results of this study suggest that biomedical ethics education should need for general college students.

Sexual discrimination, attitudes toward sexual health, and consciousness of biomedical ethics in Korea

With industrialization, increasing workforce participation of women, and advances in information and communications technology, South Korean society is experiencing conflict and confusion regarding sexual ethics. We investigated the relationships among sexual discrimination, attitudes toward sexual health, and consciousness of biomedical ethics with a sample of 142 Korean adults in Seoul, South Korea. Men exhibited greater sexual discrimination than did women. Consciousness of biomedical ethics was higher in those with religious faith and married individuals, those with a higher level of education, individuals in paid employment, and those with firmly held ethical values, than in people without these characteristics. Finally, consciousness of biomedical ethics was higher in individuals with a more positive attitude toward sexual health. On the basis of these results, we proposed the development of a sex education program in South Korea to encourage gender-equality awareness, strengthen sound attitudes toward sexual health, and increase consciousness of biomedical ethics.

Consciousness of Biomedical Ethics and Attitudes to Euthanasia of Undergraduate Students

This study sought to provide basic for the establishment of desirable sense of ethics values by analyzing the consciousness of biomedical ethics and attitudes to euthanasia of undergraduate students. The subjects of the study were 275 undergraduate students, major in occupational therapy and physical therapy students. The periods of data collection was from May 15 to 20, 2015 and collected data were analyzed on SPSS ver.18 program. The result is followed first the mean score of the consciousness of biomedical ethics was 2.79. While the mostly high ranked category of biomedical ethics was the right to life Fetus(3.42), the category with the lowest score was the Brain death(2.33). and the mean score of the attitudes to euthanasia was 2.82. Second with respect to the characteristics of participants there were not statistically significant difference in biomedical ethic and attitudes to euthanasia of total score according to sex, student’s major, grades, religion, participation of religious activity, except with ethical value. Third, the awareness of biomedical ethics and attitude of euthanasia showed significant negative correlation. As a result, for appropriate consciousness of biomedical ethics of undergraduate students, a curriculum will develop validly and must include to biomedical ethic subject in the future.

간호대학생의 죽음태도 및 영향요인

This study examined the relationships between self-esteem, and the awareness of biomedical ethics and the quality of life and death attitude, as well as the factors influencing the death attitude among 130 nursing students in college. The data were analyzed using an independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression with the SPSS Win 14.0 Program. Significant positive correlations were observed between the self-esteem and death attitude, between the awareness of biomedical ethics and the death attitude. The predictors for the death attitude were self-esteem (β=.25) and awareness of biomedical ethics (β=.11). The model explained 21.2% (F=10.4, p<.001) of the variance. The findings indicated that more study will be needed to explore the factors influencing the death attitude and to develop education programs for reinforcing a positive death attitude among college nursing students.

A Comparison of Biomedical Ethics Based on Meditainment Between Korean and Chinese Nursing Students

본 연구는 한국과 중국의 간호대학생들의 메디테인먼트 기반 생명의료윤리 의식 정도를 확인하고 영향을 미치는 요인을 알아보기 위하여 시도되었다. 연구대상자는 한국 간호대학생 492명, 중국 간호대학생 400명이었다. 2011년 5월부터 6월까지 자가 보고식 설문지로 수집하여 SPSS WIN 17.0 Program을 사용하여 분석하였다. 한국과 중국의 간호대학생들의 생명의료윤리 점수는 한국이 유의하게 높았으며, 하부영역별로 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 있었다. 일반적 특성별로 경제상태, 종교, 간호직에 대한 만족도, 삶에 대한 만족도에 따른 생명의료윤리 정도가 유의한 차이가 있었다. 생명의료윤리 의식이 높은 하위영역은 인공수정, 뇌사, 신생아의 생명권, 인공임신중절, 안락사, 장기이식, 인간생명공학, 태아진단, 태아의 생명권 순이었다. 한국 간호대학생은 신생아의 생명권, 태아진단, 태아의 생명권, 인공수정, 인공임신중절, 인간생명공학, 뇌사, 장기이식, 안락사 순이었다. 중국 간호대학생은 안락사, 뇌사, 장기이식, 인공수정, 인공임신중절, 인간생명공학, 태아의 생명권, 태아진단, 신생아의 생명권 순으로 나타났다. 이상의 연구결과 문화적 차이에 따른 생명의료윤리 의식을 향상시킬 수 있는 중재프로그램의 개발이 필요할 것이다.

보건의료계열 대학생의 생명의료윤리의식, 도덕적 자아개념 및 자아존중감*

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the level of biomedical ethics awareness, moral self-concepts, and self-esteem among college students majoring in healthcare. This study employed a crosssectional survey design. The participants were 268 third- or fourth-year university students majoring in healthcare in South Korea. The statistical analyses include descriptive statistics of the respondents’ general characteristics, and the data were analyzed with a t-test and ANOVA using the SPSS WIN 18.0 program. The average score for biomedical ethics awareness was 2.01±0.20 (using a 4-point Likert scale); the scores for self-esteem and moral self-concepts were 2.04±0.45, and 2.17±0.31 respectively. Biomedical ethics awareness showed a positive correlation with moral self-concepts (r=.157, p=.011); and selfesteem showed a positive correlation with moral self-concepts (r=.596, p&lt;.001). Reproductive ethics (r=.124, p=.043) and the right to life (r=.147, p=.016), sub-domains of biomedical ethics awareness, also showed positive correlations with moral self-concepts. The results of this study suggest that biomedical ethics education should focus primarily on reproductive ethics, the right to life, and the ethics of death.

간호대학생의 도덕적 민감성과 윤리적 가치관이 생명의료윤리 인식에 미치는 영향

Purpose This study was performed to investigate the effects of moral sensitivity and ethical values on biomedical ethics awareness of nursing students. Methods A descriptive survey design was used for this study. The participants were 324 nursing students from S University located in J city. The data were collected through a questionnaire survey done from September 30 to October 18, 2014. Data were analyzed using a t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. Results The factors influencing nursing students' biomedical ethics awareness were identified as moral sensitivity(β=.34), ethical values(β=.11), awareness of Korean nurses' declaration of ethics(β=.15), religion(β=.14), and religious activity(β=.12). Five factors explained 10.8% of nursing students' biomedical ethics awareness. Conclusion The results of this study can be used to develop further educational programs on the moral sensitivity and ethical values for enhancement of nursing students' biomedical ethics awareness. 요양병원 간호사의 생명의료윤리 의식

본 연구는 요양병원 간호사의 생명의료윤리 의식정도를 파악하는 것이다. 본 연구는 광주와 전남 지역 요양병원에 근무하고 요양병원에서 근무한지 5개월 이상 된 간호사 183명을 대상으로 설문지를 사용하였으며, 수집된 자료는 SPSS 21.0 프로그램을 이용하여, 기술통계, Independent t-test와 one-way ANOVA, 사후검증은 scheffe? test, 상관관계분석(Pearson's Correlation Analysis)으로 분석하였다. 본 연구에서 대상자의 생명의료윤리 의식에 대한 대상자들의 의식은 중간보다 높은 수준이었다. 생명의료윤리 하위영역별 의식 중 태아생명권의 의식과 임신중절의 의식이 가장 유의한 양적 상관관계가 있었 다. 요양병원 간호사의 생명의료윤리의식 정도는 높았으나, 가치관이 정립되지 않아 임상상황에서 의사결정이 혼돈된다. 따 라서 기관의 신규간호사나 간호대학생에게 생명의료윤리 교육을 통해 윤리적 가치관을 확립하여 환자의 안녕에 기여해야 할 것이다.

간호대학생의 도덕적 민감성과 비판적 사고 성향이 생명의료윤리 의식에 미치는 영향*

The purpose of this study was to identify the influence of moral sensitivity and critical thinking dispositionson the biomedical ethics awareness of nursing students. Data collection was done using aself-report questionnaire answered by 508 nursing students from six universities located in G city and Jprovince. The collected data was analyzed using a t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, andstepwise multiple regression using SPSS 20.0 program. Biomedical ethics awareness had a significantpositive correlation with moral sensitivity (r=.55, p&lt;0.001) and critical thinking dispositions (r=.59,p&lt;0.001). Ethical values, critical thinking dispositions, moral sensitivity, intent to attend biomedical ethicsclass, religion, academic year, and university transfer significantly predicted 60.4% of the biomedicalethics awareness of nursing students. The results of this study suggest that the biomedical ethics awarenessof nursing students may be increased through curricula and teaching strategies that aim to nurturestudents’ moral sensitivity and critical thinking dispositions.

영화를 이용한 생명의료윤리교육이 간호대학생의 생명의료윤리의식에 미치는 효과

본 연구는 영화를 이용한 생명의료윤리 교육의 효과성을 파악하기 위해 비 동등성 대조군 전후 설계를 이용한 유사 실험연구이다. 연구 대상은 2개 4년제 간호학과 1학년에 재학 중인 실험군 45명, 대조군 63명이다. 실험집단에는 10개 영역의 윤리적 문제와 관련된 영화를 이용한 생명의료윤리강의가 16주 동안 제공되었다. 자료 수집은 2013년 8월 26부터 12월 5일까지였으며, 연구의 목적을 설명하고 서면 동의를 받은 후 1주차와 16주차에 사전-사후설문을 실시하였다. SPSS Statistics 18을 이용하여 분석한 결과 총 생명의료윤리의식이 3.07점에서 3.31점으로 향상되었으며, 하위 영역별로는 태아생명권 3.20점에서 3.55점, 인공임신중절 3.08점에서 3.69점, 인공수정 2.99점에서 3.57점, 태아진단 3.10점에서 3.45점, 신생아권리 3.39점에서 3.55점, 장기이식 3.26점에서 3.53점으로 향상되었다(P<.001). 반면 안락사, 뇌사, 인간생명공학 영역의 점수는 변화가 없었다(p>.05). 영화를 이용한 교육은 학생들의 흥미와 관심유발, 그리고 교육만족도 향상시키는 방법으로 영화콘텐츠가 강의주제와 부합된다면 간호교육에 다양하게 사용 될 수 있을 것이다. This study is a quasi-experimental research using non-equivalent control group pre-post design in order to understand the effectiveness of biomedical ethics education using movies. This study selected the first-year 45 students and 63 students who were attending at two 4-year-course nursing colleges as an experimental group and control group, respectively. Then, this study provided the experimental group with the lecture on biomedical ethics for 16 weeks using the movie related to the ethical issues covering 10 areas. Data collection was done for 5 days from August 26, 2013 until December 5, 2013, and conducted pre-post questionnaire survey on the 1st week session and 16th session after explaining there search purpose and getting a written agreement from the subjects. As a result of analysis of the collected data using SPSS Statistics 18, it was found that students' average point of biomedical ethics awareness improved to 3.31 from 3.07; additionally, in the analysis of the data by sub-area, the point in artificial abortion improved to 3.69 from 3.08; artificial insemination from 2.99 to 3.57; fetal diagnosis from 3.10 to 3.45; a newborn's right to life from 3.39 to 3.55 and organ transplant from 3.26 to 3.53, respectively(P<.001). On the contrary, the research results showed that there was no change in the point of the mercy-killing, brain death, and human biotechnology areas, respectively(p>.05). Conclusively, movie-aided education could be diversely used for nursing education provided movie contents should be in accord with a lecture subject in a way that can arouse students' interest and concern, and improve educational satisfaction.

일개 대학 간호학생의 성별, 윤리적 가치관 및 생명의료윤리 특성이 생명의료윤리의식에 미치는 영향

본 연구의 목적은 일개 대학 간호대학생의 생명의료윤리의식 정도를 검증하기 위한 연구이다. 연구대상은 간호학생 총 266명이며, 자료수집은 2012년 9월 10일부터 10월 5일까지였다. 생명의료윤리의식의 총점 평균은 4점 만점을 기준으로 2.98( ${\pm}0.2$ )점이었으며, '태아생명권' 점수가 3.27( ${\pm}0.5$ )로 가장 높은 점수를, '장기이식'에서 2.70( ${\pm}0.4$ )로 가장 낮은 점수를 보였다. 윤리적 가치관이 매우 확고한 경우 3.06점으로 가장 높았으며(F=3.936, p=.021), 인공임신이 3.21점으로 가장 높은 점수를 나타냈다(F=5.001, p=.007). 성별과 생명의료윤리의식 점수(r=0.180, p=.003), 윤리적 가치관은 정적 상관관계를 보였다(r=0.170, p=.005). 간호대학생의 생명의료윤리의식에 대한 예측 요인은 성별( ${\beta}$ =0.205, t 0.205, t=3.399, p= ${\beta}$ =0.142, t 0.142, t=2.261, p=0.025)와 윤리적 가치관 ( ${\beta}$ =0.189, t 0.189, t=3.119, p=0.002)이었다. 본 연구결과를 토대로 간호학생들의 생명의료윤리의식을 높이기 위한 교육 프로그램을 마련하는 데 기초자료가 될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. 【The aim of this study was to test the correlation of ethical values and perception of biomedical ethics in nursing students. Moral principlism alone is insufficient, and traditional moral theories remain important for practical ethics

Bioethics is a new discipline that arose out of a general revulsion for the events of the Holocaust and concerns about the unique dilemmas created by the rapid progress of modern knowledge. The four principles approach to medical ethics has been widely adopted as a basis for ethical decision-making in clinical practice. Although the four principles have succeeded in raising general awareness of biomedical ethics, there are several problems with principlism. This review discusses the criticisms of the four principles and attempts to provide an integrated approach to ethics based on the character of the moral agent.
