Massive pollution of surface waters in the Balti urban ecosystem has been established with CODCr, BOD5 and suspended matter as a result of leaks from the city due to atmospheric precipitation prior to sampling corresponding to surface water quality class IV and V, and self-cleaning capacity(SCC); SCC= BOD5 / CODCr has very low values. According to the nutrient content, the surface waters of the researched ecosystem were marked by moderate signs of disturbed ecosystem functioning. The left tributary of the river Răut, Flămînda, was classified in quality class I for chlorides, nutrients, BOD5 and mineralization, II for CODCr and suspended solids. The functioning of the aquatic ecosystem is not affected. The highest values for most of the pollutants analyzed were found in the waters of the river, downstream of the confluence with the waters discharged by the Biological Treatment Plant.
