Recovery of valuable components from minerals by microorganisms and their metabolic products is recognized biotechnology reception processing of sulphide ores. To date, this technology is cost-effective and environmentally friendly. The article describes the main groups of bacteria involved in the process biohydrometallurgical extraction of metals from natural sulfide ores, and recent data on the mechanism of bacterial and chemical oxidation. The main phenotypic and genotypic properties of acidophilic chemolithotrophic bacteria involved in biohydrometallurgical processes - mesophilic and moderately thermophilic chemolithotrophic members of the genera Acidithiobacillus, Leptospirillum, Sulfobacillus. Promising uses of bacterial leaching and the possible importance of this method for obtaining metals from non-traditional minerals indicated.
