We are probably witnessing the most serious worldwide health situation in human history. To date with 9653,048 cases of Covid 19 and 491,128 deaths. Ecuador, for its part, reports figures of 53,856 confirmed cases and 4406 deaths. A pandemic that has collapsed the most powerful economies and revealed shortcomings in Public Health in all countries, which has evidenced the need to strengthen Public Health Systems as the true way to be able to provide comprehensive care coverage to the population including the fearsome complications of this disease, which demands an optimal health services infrastructure at all levels of care, which evidences the need for having a sufficient number of medical specialists, reflecting the inescapable demand for providing state-of-the-art equipment to our institutions, which makes visible the need to promote the development of the medical pharmaceutical industry, biotechnology, molecular immunology, to be prepared to face this and other pandemics. The Technical University of Ambato has given a timely and immediate response, putting itself up to the demands of the moment, first handing over the equipment of its FCS Research Laboratory to the Ambato General Teaching Hospital, in order to carry out molecular diagnoses of infection by SARS-Cov2. Meta-analyzes were carried out to evaluate the available scientific evidence and to adopt the best decisions to diagnose and treat the population, commissions and strategic groups were created to respond from academia and science to the demands of society in the framework of this serious health situation. 5 research projects were designed in an emergent way, encompassing the development of integrated platforms based on emerging technologies for the evaluation of risk factors, diagnosis, treatment, evaluation of prognostic factors and geolocation of patients from the condition of isolation, development of telemedicine, enabling laboratories to perform serological determinations for the diagnosis of SARS-Cov2 infection, care for indigenous communities and other vulnerable sectors, psychological care for people in isolation and prevention of suicidal behavior in adolescents. In addition, the University joined multinational projects for the evaluation of the genetic predisposition for infection by this cororavirus. And if that were not enough, a new call for research projects is already underway to continue providing scientific solutions to the challenges that the pandemic generates, without neglecting the attention of other health problems, which stand out in the local, regional epidemiological context, national and international. How not to highlight the valuable contribution of our interns, postgraduates, doctors, nurses, laboratory workers, physiotherapists, psychologists, who have been and will be in the first line of combat against the coronavirus, attending to the ever increasing health needs of the population in condition of vulneability. The dissemination in radio interviews and other media was immediate, and information with a high level of certainty has been provided permanently, to promote health, prevent infection, guide the best diagnostic and therapeutic behaviors and join efforts in favor of the community. And at this moment, our Faculty of Health Sciences, has posed an even greater challenge, organizing the V International Congress of Research in Health Sciences and the I International Congress of Postgraduate in Health, in a virtual way, as required by the current situation, but summoning prestigious scientists from all latitudes, to debate the most pressing problems and seek the best solutions, from the creation of international academic and scientific networks that facilitate harmonious and comprehensive scientific development on the five continents multilaterally. Articulating all the substantive functions of Higher Education with a single purpose, saving lives and giving quality of life. The Covid 19 pandemic has also evidenced the need for a solid ethical and bioethical training at a global level, which requires strengthening professionals' knowledge, abilities and skills to face the multiple dilemmatic situations that occur on a daily basis, in the health emergency that is faces. But also this pandemic has led us to resignify values, adapt our environments and conditions in situations of increasing gravity, showing that humanism and solidarity have been, are and will be a better strategy. As the poet said, ¨Life is worth nothing, if we stay seated¨, that is why the Faculty of Health Sciences of the Technical University of Ambato, has not ignored the thousands of patients, the thousands of deceased and it is erect, standing, giving battle to the coronavirus, with the simplicity and humility of the scientist, with the iron will to win and with the noblest ideals, because this is the war of all, against an invisible and mortal enemy, who lurks implacably, convinced that the only and best solution is in the hands of science.
