In this paper laser surface coating of a step bioceramic composite layer which was preformed by paving step bioceramic or CaHPO 42H 2O-CaCO a powders on austenic stainless stell was studied. The results of scanning electron microscopy, electron diffraction spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analyses show that the main factors that are advantageous to the formation of the bioceramic coating are the lower power and higher scan speed of the laser, when the ratio CaHPO 42H 2O/CaCO 3 is larger than that in the usual composition of hydroxyapatite. The composite bioceramic coatings include Ca 5(PO 4) 3(OH). Small non-crystalline zones can be formed with laser surface coating.
