Examining the Relationship Between Fanatic Levels of Football Fans and Verbal, Physical and Cyberbullying Behaviors

This research; It was conducted to examine the verbal, physical and cyber bullying behaviors of football fans according to their level of fanaticism. General survey model, one of the descriptive methods, was used in the research. The study group of the study consists of 417 football fans determined by random sampling method for the supporters of the 4 big teams in the Turkish Football Federation super league in the 2020-2021 football season. Research data; To determine the level of fanaticism of football fans, Taşmektepligil et al. (2015) developed the football fanaticism scale, and the verbal physical and cyberbullying behaviors of sports spectators scale developed by Karaca (2019) were used to measure the verbal bullying, physical bullying and cyberbullying behaviors of sports spectators. The SPSS.20 analysis program was used to analyze the data of the study, and ANOVA test and correlation analysis were conducted to examine the relationship between football fans' level of fanaticism and their bullying behavior. When the findings of the research are examined; It is seen that there is a significant relationship between football fans' tendency to think and act towards violence and their verbal, physical, and cyber bullying behaviors. As a result, it can be said that the verbal, physical and cyber bullying behaviors of football fans increase as the tendency to think and act towards violence increases.

Big team science initiatives: A catalyst for trustworthy advancements in IO psychology

Keener et al. (2023) raise concerns about the trustworthiness of Industrial/Organizational (IO) Psychology research and related fields due to the low reproducibility and replicability of research findings. The authors provide various solutions to resolve this crisis, such as improving training, realigning incentives, and adopting open science practices. Our commentary elaborates on one solution to which they briefly allude: Big Team Science Initiatives (BTSIs). BTSIs allow scholars to address the trustworthiness of our science by facilitating large sample theory testing, sharing and allocating resources, and selecting appropriate research strategies, all of which support the reproducibility and replication of research. Further, we propose that BTSIs may facilitate researcher training, encourage data sharing and materials, and realign incentives in our field. We discuss how BTSIs could be implemented in IO psychology and related fields, identifying and drawing upon similar BTSIs in related disciplines. Thus, our commentary is an extension of the focal article, encouraging scholars to collaboratively address the “crisis of confidence” facing our field using a big team science approach.

Understanding Addiction in the Context of Perinatal Substance Use: A Reflection for Clinicians

Society determines what substances are legal and not, and some people can use a variety of substances without negative consequences. Substance use occurs on a continuum from use to harmful use, to addiction [1,2]. It is important that support and treatment take into consideration the complex pathways, consequences and outcomes of substance use, harmful use, and addiction [4]. Perinatal harm reduction focuses on building relationships to empower women with knowledge about the harms associated with substance use when pregnant, and choice about the type and extent of change she wishes to make [3,5]. The medical model explains 'addiction' as a treatable disease which is helpful in removing stigma and explaining how physiology can affect behaviour [6]. It helps women and families associate problematic substance use with substance use disorder and not as a weakness of the person. Substance use disorder is commonly rooted in childhood trauma, stressors, feelings of shame or 'less than'[1,3,6]. Building on recovery capital when women are inspired during pregnancy and postpartum can be an opportunity for change, growth, healing, and empowerment. Humans are complex biopsychosocial and spiritual beings, so the treatment, recovery, and healing require a holistic approach. This does not mean you need a big team… just time, trust, and patience... and a commitment to support change![8]

Psychology’s reform movement needs a reconceptualization of scientific expertise

Science is supposed to be a self-correcting endeavor, but who is “the scientific expert” that corrects faulty science? We grouped traditional conceptualizations of expertise in psychology under three classes (substantialist, implicitist, and social conventionalist), and then examined how these approaches affect scientific self-correction in reference to various components of the credibility crisis such as fraud/QRPs, the inadequate number of replication studies, challenges facing big team science, and perverse incentives. Our investigation pointed out several problems with the traditional views. First, traditional views conceptualize expertise as something possessed, not performed, ignoring the epistemic responsibility of experts. Second, expertise is conceived as an exclusively individual quality, which contradicts the socially distributed nature of scientific inquiry. Third, some aspects of expertise are taken to be implicit or relative to the established research practices in a field, which leads to disputes over replicability and makes it difficult to criticize mindless scientific rituals. Lastly, a conflation of expertise with eminence in practice creates an incentive structure that undermines the goal of self-correction in science. We suggest, instead, that we conceive an expert as a reliable informant. Following the extended virtue account of expertise, we propose a non-individualist and a performance-based model, and discuss why it does not suffer from the same problems as traditional approaches, and why it is more compatible with the reform movement's goal of creating a credible psychological science through self-correction.

Embedding Big Qual and Team Science into Qualitative Research: Lessons from a Large-scale, Cross-site Research Study.

A major part of the HEALing Communities Study (HCS), launched in 2019 to address the growing opioid epidemic, is evaluating the study's intervention implementation process through an implementation science (IS) approach. One component of the IS approach involves teams with more than 20 researchers collaborating across four research sites to conduct in-depth qualitative interviews with over 300 participants at four time points. After completion of the first two rounds of data collection, we reflect upon our qualitative data collection and analysis approach. We aim to share our lessons learned about designing and applying qualitative methods within an implementation science framework. The HCS evaluation is based on the RE-AIM/PRISM framework and incorporates interviews at four timepoints. At each timepoint, the core qualitative team of the Intervention Work Group drafts an interview guide based on the framework and insights from previous round(s) of data collection. Researchers then conduct interviews with key informants and coalition members within their respective states. Data analysis involves drafting, iteratively refining, and finalizing a codebook in a cross-site and within-site consensus processes. Interview transcripts are then individually coded by researchers within their respective states. Successes in the evaluation process includes having structured procedures for communication, data collection, and analysis, all of which are critical for ensuring consistent data collection and for achieving consensus during data analysis. Challenges include recognizing and accommodating the diversity of training and knowledge between researchers, and establishing reliable ways to securely store, manage, and share the large volumes of data. Qualitative methods using a team science approach have been limited in their application in large, multi-site randomized controlled trials of health interventions. Our experience provides practical guidance for future studies with large, experientially and disciplinarily diverse teams, and teams seeking to incorporate qualitative or mixed-methods components for their evaluations.

How to build up big team science: a practical guide for large-scale collaborations

The past decade has witnessed a proliferation of big team science (BTS), endeavours where a comparatively large number of researchers pool their intellectual and/or material resources in pursuit of a common goal. Despite this burgeoning interest, there exists little guidance on how to create, manage and participate in these collaborations. In this paper, we integrate insights from a multi-disciplinary set of BTS initiatives to provide a how-to guide for BTS. We first discuss initial considerations for launching a BTS project, such as building the team, identifying leadership, governance, tools and open science approaches. We then turn to issues related to running and completing a BTS project, such as study design, ethical approvals and issues related to data collection, management and analysis. Finally, we address topics that present special challenges for BTS, including authorship decisions, collaborative writing and team decision-making.

The research method used is a qualitative research method with a literature study approach.

Analysis of the Tampa Bay Rays Sister City Plan based on Urban Catalysts Theory

In MLB, small market teams have fewer fans and relatively less access to resources, and even less opportunity to gain exposure. Whether it's the fan base, the team's financial resources, the size of the market or the size of the benefits received, small market teams can't compete with big market teams. In this environment, the Tampa Bay Rays have managed to bounce back. Since 2008, the Rays have made the playoffs six times in 14 years, and two trips to the World Series. However, such a strong team has a sluggish ball market that does not match the booming sports atmosphere. Therefore, in order for the team to further expand its popularity, attract more fans, and thus gain more economic benefits and tap into the huge market potential, the Tampa Bay Rays propose a sister-city plan and has caused widespread controversy. This study attempts to discuss the future development direction of the team through the theory of urban catalyst, from the two aspects of team development and urban promotion, and put forward the best interests of the future development of the Tampa Bay Rays.

'Big team' science challenges us to reconsider authorship.

‘Big team’ science challenges researchers to revisit three issues around authorship: (1) how to define authorship-worthy contributions, (2) how contributions should be documented and (3) how disagreements among large teams of coauthors should be handled. We propose steps that the community can take to resolve these issues.

How does the increase in foreign players affect football?

BackgroundIn the study, we tried to analyze the effects of foreign players on Turkish Super League matches. For this purpose, in this long-term study, 1836 competition data played in 6 seasons between 2014 and 2020 was obtained from www.mackolik.com each year.MethodPearson's correlation coefficient applied between 18 different variables (goal, shoot, pass, cross, corner, offside, foul, yellow card, red card, accurate shot, percentage of the precise pass, rate of accurate access on opponent's field, the difference of ball possession percentage, shot difference, pass difference, big team superiority, home team superiority) and the number of foreign players (NoFP, active foreign players in 90 min.).ResultIn the Turkish Super League, within six seasons (2014–20), the NoFP in a match increased from 10.43 (38.06%) to 17.99 (64.26%). The increment was partially linear and statistically significant (F = 594.85) in all seasons. A positive association was found between NoFP several of passes (r = 0.219), percentage of accurate passes (r = 0.133), percentage of precise passes on the opponent's field (r = 0.139), exact pass difference between opponents (r = 0.114), and ball possession difference between opponents (r = 0.113). Fouls committed decreased with the increase of NoFP (r = -0.250). Although the win probability of the teams named The Big Three (Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray, and Beşiktaş) decreased from 67% (2014 season rate) to 50% in the last two seasons, no association was identified between the NoFP and big team superiority.ConclusionsConsequently, NoFP increment may improve the game quality by increasing accurate passes and passes in the opponent's field. The number of passes and the ball possession percentage difference between opponent teams may indicate that one team has control of the game by keeping possession or the other is tactically giving possession. These findings may suggest that the game evolved into half-field, tactical, set-play, possessioning competition. Analyzing variables such as game speed, intensity, the duration of the ball in play, running distance, energy consumption, and fatigue markers may light future studies.

The benefits of big-team science for conservation: Lessons learned from trinational monarch butterfly collaborations

Many pressing conservation issues are complex problems caused by multiple social and environmental drivers; their resolution is aided by interdisciplinary teams of scientists, decision makers, and stakeholders working together. In these situations, how do we generate science to effectively guide conservation (resource management and policy) decisions? This paper describes elements of successful big-team science in conservation, as well as shortcomings and lessons learned, based on our work with the monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus) in North America. We summarize literature on effective science teams, extracting information about elements of success, effective implementation approaches, and barriers or pitfalls. We then describe recent and ongoing conservation science for the monarch butterfly in North America. We focus primarily on the activities of the Monarch Conservation Science Partnership–an international collaboration of interdisciplinary scientists, policy experts and natural resource managers spanning government, non-governmental and academic institutions—which developed science to inform imperilment status, recovery options, and monitoring strategies. We couch these science efforts in the adaptative management framework of Strategic Habitat Conservation, the business model for conservation employed by the US Fish and Wildlife Service to inform decision-making needs identified by stakeholders from Canada, the United States, and Mexico. We conclude with elements critical to effective big-team conservation science, discuss why science teams focused on applied conservation problems are unique relative to science teams focusing on traditional or theoretical research, and list benefits of big team science in conservation.

Is big team research fair in national research assessments? The case of the UK Research Excellence Framework 2021

Abstract Collaborative research causes problems for research assessments because of the difficulty in fairly crediting its authors. Whilst splitting the rewards for an article amongst its authors has the greatest surface-level fairness, many important evaluations assign full credit to each author, irrespective of team size. The underlying rationales for this are labour reduction and the need to incentivise collaborative work because it is necessary to solve many important societal problems. This article assesses whether full counting changes results compared to fractional counting in the case of the UK's Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021. For this assessment, fractional counting reduces the number of journal articles to as little as 10% of the full counting value, depending on the Unit of Assessment (UoA). Despite this large difference, allocating an overall grade point average (GPA) based on full counting or fractional counting gives results with a median Pearson correlation within UoAs of 0.98. The largest changes are for Archaeology (r=0.84) and Physics (r=0.88). There is a weak tendency for higher scoring institutions to lose from fractional counting, with the loss being statistically significant in 5 of the 34 UoAs. Thus, whilst the apparent over-weighting of contributions to collaboratively authored outputs does not seem too problematic from a fairness perspective overall, it may be worth examining in the few UoAs in which it makes the most difference.

­­Eleven tips for operational researchers working with health programmes: our experience based on implementing differentiated tuberculosis care in south India

ABSTRACT Due to the workload and lack of a critical mass of trained operational researchers within their ranks, health systems and programmes may not be able to dedicate sufficient time to conducting operational research (OR). Hence, they may need the technical support of operational researchers from research/academic organisations. Additionally, there is a knowledge gap regarding implementing differentiated tuberculosis (TB) care in programme settings. In this ‘how we did it’ paper, we share our experience of implementing a differentiated TB care model along with an inbuilt OR component in Tamil Nadu, a southern state in India. This was a health system initiative through a collaboration of the State TB cell with the Indian Council of Medical Research institutes and the World Health Organisation country office in India. The learnings are in the form of eleven tips: four broad principles (OR on priority areas and make it a health system initiative, implement simple and holistic ideas, embed OR within routine programme settings, aim for long-term engagement), four related to strategic planning (big team of investigators, joint leadership, decentralised decision-making, working in advance) and three about implementation planning (conducting pilots, smart use of e-tools and operational research publications at frequent intervals). These may act as a guide for other Indian states, high TB burden countries that want to implement differentiated care, and for operational researchers in providing technical assistance for strengthening implementation and conducting OR in health systems and programmes (TB or other health programmes). Following these tips may increase the chances of i) an enriching engagement, ii) policy/practice change, and iii) sustainable implementation.

Objective Investigate and understand the main factors that affect the development of tactical training activities of big football teams. Methods Large-scale soccer match tactics at the 2018 World Cup are evaluated and treated statistically by dividing the defensive behaviors in the game between individual defensive tactics and collective defensive tactics. Results The primary means of launching a fast defensive attack is a medium to long pass across the court. Launching a fast attack requires combining a pass with a sudden attack. Conclusion Attackers often take the initiative in their confrontation tactics. The aggressive style of the players excels in the initiative and midfield advantage. Flipping the Learning to Engage? Herts Route to Students’ Higher Levels of Learning

This paper looks at the application of flipped learning as a pedagogy for student learning and its blended approach to the delivery of the learning and teaching materials. This paper is based on research conducted on the delivery of a Postgraduate Business Research Methods Module. The research indicates a specific structure and sequencing is to be followed in delivering the teaching materials of the Module, providing students the opportunity to learn to higher levels, using quizzes to test knowledge and subject understanding, case studies, practical applications and student-initiated discussions. The structured synchronous online flipped learning approach, known as SOFLA, is of great importance for large modules and a big teaching team, not only to ensure consistency of delivery but also for the educational experience of mainly international students. In addition, compassion pedagogy needs to be considered to create inclusion and engagement. Mid-module feedback and end-term student voice questionnaire datasets are used in the analysis of effectiveness and student learning of the Business Research Methods Module. The conclusions drawn are an excellently designed and managed Module, giving the required learning focus, with the realisation by students that their use of learning materials and engagement is open to improvement. Recommendations are made to seek solutions to enhance student engagement in the preparation for the Module’s learning materials, achieving higher learning.

Co-occurrence network of microbes linking growth and immunity parameters with the gut microbiota in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) after feeding with fermented soybean meal

The supplementation of fish feed with fermented soybean meal (FSBM) as an additive is widely used to produce aquatic feed. However, the mechanism by which FSBM regulates gut microbes in fish are still largely unknown. In the present work, soybean meal fermented by Lactobacillus fermentum (Lactobacillus group), Bacillus natto (Bacillus group), and Saccharomyces cerevisiae (Saccharomyces group) was added to fish diets, and the effects of these diets on gut microbiota, growth performance [Weight gain rate (WGR) and Specific growth rate (SGR)], and immunity [superoxide dismutase (SOD), lysozyme (LSZ) and alkaline phosphatase (AKP)] of Nile tilapia was assessed. Compared with Nontreated group, Lactobacillus and Saccharomyces fermented soybean meal remarkably improved the WGR, SGR, AKP, and LSZ (p < 0.05). The SOD activity was significantly lower in Bacillus group than other groups (p < 0.05). High-throughput sequencing of the V3-V4 region of the 16S rRNA gene was used to analyze the gut microbiota of Nile tilapia. PCoA and UPGMA showed that the similarity between the Saccharomyces and Lactobacillus groups was higher. Compared with Nontreated group, Lactobacillus fermented soybean meal significantly increased the Chao1 index and number of observed species (p < 0.05), while Bacillus fermented soybean meal remarkably improved the Simpson and Shannon indices (p < 0.01). Corynebacterium and Mycobacterium were significantly enriched in the Saccharomyces and Lactobacillus groups, and Aquabacterium and Acidovorax were significantly enriched in the Bacillus group. LEfSe analysis showed that Rhizobiales, Thermomicrobia, Myxococcales and Gemmatales were the biomarker in Lactobacillus group, Mycobacterium, Clavibacter and Coxiellaceae were the biomarker in Saccharomyces group, and Brevundimonas and Aquabacterium were the biomarker in Bacillus group. More interestingly, the co-occurrence network indicated that fish diets supplemented with L. fermentum or S. cerevisiae fermented soybean meal were more likely to impact some species that played pivotal roles in the network. L. fermentum- or S. cerevisiae- fermented SBM tended to activate similar “big team” species and promote their cooperation to perform certain functions. This research showed that FSBM fermented by L. fermentum, B. natto, and S. cerevisiae exerted different effect on growth, immunity, and gut microbiota of Nile tilapia, and the co-occurrence network of the microbiota could partially explain the relationship between the growth performance and immune parameters and the microbiomic data.
