Mapping the Research on Healthcare Delivery in Business and Management in the Last Two Decades (2002–2021): A Bibliometric Network Analysis

Healthcare delivery is an evolving field of research concerned with promoting good health and well-being for all. To comprehend the progress of the research field, 909 healthcare delivery records were systematically collected from 20 categories aligned to business and management in the Web of Science database, published between 2002 and 2021. Later, the articles were analysed using the Bibliometrix tool to extract information on the annual number of publications, the records of highest publications, keyword co-occurrence networks and thematic evolution during the study period. The findings showed that the United States is the country with the highest contribution to the field, and the University of Washington is the institution with the highest contribution. Additionally, 10 significant clusters of the published articles were identified. The thematic evolution shows that the focus is now more on patient outcomes and the adoption of virtual health delivery models. This study is one of the first to holistically review the healthcare delivery research landscape of the past two decades to identify relevant themes from a multidisciplinary perspective, guiding researchers to pursue novel research studies.

Social Relevance of Ecosystem Services Provided by Urban Green Infrastructures: A Mixed Qualitative–Quantitative Case Study Approach

Urban green infrastructures (UGIs) are important elements of the urban matrix providing ecological functions and several ecosystem services beneficial to citizens. Recently, their contribution to the well-being and quality of life of citizens has been widely recognized by both the scientific community and policymakers. This study aims to explore the social relevance of UGI ecosystem services through a mixed qualitative–quantitative case study approach. First, a quantitative literature review was conducted using bibliometric network analysis, followed by a participatory process through a Scientific Café with a sample of Italian stakeholders involved in the UGIs’ planning and management. The bibliometric network analysis identified 443 documents (from 2000 to 2024) primarily focused on three ecosystem services provided by UGIs—climate change mitigation, biodiversity conservation, and cultural services, such as health benefits, aesthetic, and recreation. The qualitative results of Scientific Café highlight a particular interest of stakeholders in cultural services such as physical and mental benefits provided by UGIs, as well as improving the urban aesthetic value. Additionally, the role of UGIs in microclimate regulation and heat mitigation was emphasized. The combined analysis of perspectives from the scientific community, policy-makers, stakeholders, and citizens provides a foundation for developing a participatory governance approach to UGIs.

The Landscape of Research on Contextualized Science Learning: A Bibliometric Network Review

ABSTRACTThe vast and rapidly growing amount of science education research makes it challenging for researchers to navigate and synthesize developments across the field, particularly concerning broad concepts evolving along divergent paths. To address this issue, a novel review methodology employing bibliometrics and network analysis was tested to identify and characterize clusters of research focused on the relationship between school‐based science learning and contexts where that science is applied, experienced, observable, or otherwise relevant (e.g., socio‐scientific inquiry, place‐based learning, culturally‐responsive pedagogy). Using a sample of 935 academic papers, the bibliometric network analysis revealed the landscape of contextualized science learning research, identifying 13 distinct clusters of scholarship. Bibliometric and qualitative data were used to describe the research trends within clusters and confirm they were conceptually meaningful and distinct. This methodology facilitated greater understanding of how research can become clustered into “invisible colleges” over time, offering a synthesis approach to grasp interrelated lines of research within an evolving landscape. The methodology has potential to identify other schools of thought or overarching themes in science education, enhancing researchers’ ability to perceive the field as a coherent landscape of interconnected ideas or to identify specific research trajectories within a broad concept.

Citation and bibliographic coupling between authors in the field of social network analysis

Abstract Purpose We analyzed the structure of a community of authors working in the field of social network analysis (SNA) based on citation indicators: direct citation and bibliographic coupling metrics. We observed patterns at the micro, meso, and macro levels of analysis. Design/methodology/approach We used bibliometric network analysis, including the “temporal quantities” approach proposed to study temporal networks. Using a two-mode network linking publications with authors and a one-mode network of citations between the works, we constructed and analyzed the networks of citation and bibliographic coupling among authors. We used an iterated saturation data collection approach. Findings At the macro-level, we observed the global structural features of citations between authors, showing that 80% of authors have not more than 15 citations from other works. At the meso-level, we extracted the groups of authors citing each other and similar to each other according to their citation patterns. We have seen a division of authors in SNA into groups of social scientists and physicists, as well as into other groups of authors from different disciplines. We found some examples of brokerage between different groups that maintained the common identity of the field. At the micro-level, we extracted authors with extremely high values of received citations, who can be considered as the most prominent authors in the field. We examined the temporal properties of the most popular authors. Research limitations The main challenge in this approach is the resolution of the author’s name (synonyms and homonyms). We faced the author disambiguation, or “multiple personalities” (Harzing, 2015) problem. To remain consistent and comparable with our previously published articles, we used the same SNA data collected up to 2018. The analysis and conclusions on the activity, productivity, and visibility of the authors are relative only to the field of SNA. Practical implications The proposed approach can be utilized for similar objectives and identifying key structures and characteristics in other disciplines. This may potentially inspire the application of network approaches in other research areas, creating more authors collaborating in the field of SNA. Originality/value We identified and applied an innovative approach and methods to study the structure of scientific communities, which allowed us to get the findings going beyond those obtained with other methods. We used a new approach to temporal network analysis, which is an important addition to the analysis as it provides detailed information on different measures for the authors and pairs of authors over time.

Hybrid Meat Sausages with Cereal Ingredients: A Systematic Review and Development Trial with the Assessment of Physicochemical and Sensory Attributes.

A number of consumers in developed countries are now reducing the amount of meat in their diets, so the development of novel alternatives for conventional meat products is becoming a challenge for the meat industry. The aim of this study was to analyse the possibility of developing hybrid meat sausages with cereal ingredients, based on a systematic review of the literature, as well as a development trial of a hybrid dry snack stick sausage with groats with an assessment of its physicochemical and sensory attributes. A systematic review of peer-reviewed studies about hybrid meat sausages with cereal ingredients, including bibliometric network analysis, was conducted. The development trial was conducted including physicochemical analyses and sensory assessment of the hybrid semi-dry sausages, produced as a ready-to-eat snack (cabanossi) with groats, obtained on an industrial scale. Among the studied hybrid meat products with cereal ingredients, there were patties, frankfurters, salami, and other sausages, while the cereal products added included various components obtained from rice, wheat, chia, and oats. The usefulness of the applied cereal components was emphasised in order to obtain a product of a potential better nutritional value and higher health-promoting properties, as well as being acceptable, or sometimes even better, and described as being products of a good quality. The development trial allowed us to obtain the hybrid semi-dry ready-to-eat cabanossi sausages with groats, which were compared with the hybrid semi-dry ready-to-eat cabanossi sausages with sunflower seeds. Both studied products were characterised by a composition in agreement with requirements, but of a reduced fat content (with hybrid semi-dry ready-to-eat cabanossi sausages with groats being even lower than for those with sunflower seeds; p < 0.0001). Their sensory properties were acceptable, even if the plant-based components were recognisable. The characteristics of the hybrid meat products with cereal ingredients both in the literature and development trial were acceptable, and what is even more important is that they are characterised by a potential to be presented as a product of a better nutritional value and higher health-promoting properties.

Blockchain applications in the agri-food sector: current insights, challenges and research avenues

PurposeWith the growing entrepreneurial enthusiasm surrounding blockchain, there has been a notable surge in academic discussions regarding the business implications of integrating this technology into the agri-food industry. This trend is expected to persist and evolve in the future. Hence, there is a need to organize and consolidate the existing knowledge, discern prevailing trends and articulate a comprehensive roadmap for guiding future research endeavors in this domain.Design/methodology/approachWe combine bibliometric network analyses with a detailed systematic review of the related management literature published between 2008 and 2022.FindingsOur results indicate that debate has clustered around the operations management domain, with a dominance of practice-oriented topics. Most of the literature has been published in top-tier journals, with a recent opening toward empirical research and conceptualization efforts. Both signs show that scholars have acknowledged the prominence of the construct and started to theorize about it. Eventually, the analysis provides a conceptual map, unveils the trends emerging in the received studies and yields conclusions that are helpful to scholars engaging with digital tools in traditional industries.Originality/valueOur approach blends quantitative analysis with a comprehensive and systematic overview, providing a complementary viewpoint on the topic.

Bibliometric network analysis is an analytical approach that enables researchers to visualize the relationships between a set of research items (e.g., journal articles, books). There are 3 types of bibliometric network analyses, and multiple tools to conduct the analysis and visualize results (e.g., VOSviewer , 1Gephi2 ). For health professions educators, bibliometric network analysis is valuable for discovering the field's emerging trends, popular topics, and multidisciplinary relationships. 3,4.

Removal of Heavy Metals from Wastewaters and Other Aqueous Streams by Pressure-Driven Membrane Technologies: An Outlook on Reverse Osmosis, Nanofiltration, Ultrafiltration and Microfiltration Potential from a Bibliometric Analysis.

A bibliometric study to analyze the scientific documents released until 2024 in the database Scopus related to the use of pressure-driven membrane technologies (microfiltration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration and reverse osmosis) for heavy metal removal was conducted. The work aimed to assess the primary quantitative attributes of the research in this field during the specified period. A total of 2205 documents were identified, and the corresponding analysis indicated an exponential growth in the number of publications over time. The contribution of the three most productive countries (China, India and USA) accounts for more than 47.1% of the total number of publications, with Chinese institutions appearing as the most productive ones. Environmental Science was the most frequent knowledge category (51.9% contribution), followed by Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. The relative frequency of the keywords and a complete bibliometric network analysis allowed the conclusion that the low-pressure technologies (microfiltration and ultrafiltration) have been more deeply investigated than the high-pressure technologies (nanofiltration and reverse osmosis). Although porous low-pressure membranes are not adequate for the removal of dissolved heavy metals in ionic forms, the incorporation of embedded adsorbents within the membrane structure and the use of auxiliary chemicals to form metallic complexes or micelles that can be retained by this type of membrane are promising approaches. High-pressure membranes can achieve rejection percentages above 90% (99% in the case of reverse osmosis), but they imply lower permeate productivity and higher costs due to the required pressure gradients.

Research Trends and Patterns on Emotional Intelligence in Education: A Bibliometric and Knowledge Mapping During 2012–2021

Abstract The increasing rate of publications on emotional intelligence, especially regarding student learning, underscores the need to study research trends in this domain. This research utilizes bibliometric and science mapping analyses to generate an overview of research on emotional intelligence in education, using data sourced from SCOPUS. The terms “emotional intelligence,” “teaching,” and “education” were used as keywords for data search and retrieval. Data were analysed using various bibliometric indicators such as the number of publications, citations, collaborations, co-citation, and keywords. While descriptive statistics were used to analyse bibliometric indicators, bibliometric network analyses using VOSviewer were carried out for science mapping analyses. The findings indicate that while publication counts surged between 2012 and 2021, average citations remained constant. Despite Western predominance, Asia significantly contributed to research output. Notable collaboration was seen among Asian, Balkan, and European nations, but limited among individual authors. The keyword analysis informed major themes such as leadership skills, training, medical education, entrepreneurship, personality, special needs, and psychosocial aspects. Summarily, emotional intelligence in education has emerged as a globally acknowledged research area, and this work elucidates its thematic knowledge, offering insights for prospective researchers.

Using Technology in Science Education:A Bibliometric Analysis

The aim of this study is to reveal the bibliometric profile of articles published in the field of science education and technology. In the study, in which descriptive research model was used, bibliometric analysis method was preferred in order to reveal and examine the research trends of scientific publications on science education and technology. In the study, Web of Science Core Collection was preferred as the database and VOSviewer program was preferred as the bibliometric network analysis program. In the Web of Science Core Collection database, 2485 articles were accessed after searching with the keywords “science educat*” and “technology*”. As a result of the research, it was determined that the first article in the relevant subject area was published in 1980 and the most articles were published in 2022. The country with the highest number of publications in the related field is the USA. The researcher who published the most in the related field is Franz Xaver Bogner. The most publications were published in the Journal of Science Education. Most frequently used keyword in the related articles is science education. The study is important in terms of revealing the research trend of science education and technology articles.

Towards digitalization in higher education: conceptual and bibliometric paradigm

Objetive: The aim is to study the foundations of the scientific literature in this area, the different intellectual structures, the conceptual and social structure and the trends of the analysed field. Methodology: The research is carried out through a bibliometric network analysis and graphical mapping of the field under investigation. Results: Firstly, the field is relatively recent and shows a collaborative network of inter-institutional character and with important synergies between countries and authors. In the intellectual structure, there is a cluster of strategies to follow in the implementation of DT in HEIs, with its possible drivers and obstacles, at technological, social, pedagogical and organisational levels; the implementation of DT in a concrete and practical way, alerting that DT is more than a set of digital tools; a more theoretical and conceptual line of thought on the concept of DT in HEIs and, finally, sustainable DT in the impact on HEIs. In the thematic structure, the block of theoretical and conceptual foundations that reveals COVID19 as the main accelerating factor of DT, the cluster that investigates the learning process through digital teaching and the third one that highlights the importance of cultural change management and people in the process stand out. Practical implications: This study allows us to have a general vision of the intellectual, conceptual and social structure of the DT and HEIs process and its impact on the different dimensions. Furthermore, the findings have implications for the management of TD processes in HEIs.

Evolution of Private Forest Owner’s Cooperation: A Bibliometric Network Analysis

Forests play an important role in adapting to and mitigating the negative effects of climate change and environmental degradation through sustainable forest management. In Europe and North America, where private forest ownership dominates, private forest owners play a crucial role in achieving diverse policy objectives. Given the importance of private forest owner cooperation to support the sustainable management and the achievement of policy goals, this paper systematically reviewed the international scientific publication on private forest owners (PFOs) cooperation using bibliometric network analysis complemented with a literature review to examine the development over the last two decades (2000–2021) and to determine where the trend of the research has been heading. The analysis provided a general overview of PFOs cooperation and focus more specifically on two main aspects of PFOs cooperation: “Reasons for joining forest owners’ organizations” and “Factors influencing PFOs cooperation”. The data was retrieved from the Scopus database and analysed using the VOSviewer software. The results showed that the number of publications on PFOs’ cooperation is more or less constant and that the most prolific authors’ institutions in this topic area come from the United States, Finland, Sweden and Germany. The keyword cluster analysis showed that there are three topic oriented clusters for both aspects of PFOs’ cooperation – “Reasons for joining forest owners’ organizations” and “Factors influencing PFOs cooperation”, while the trend of keywords showed a change in the perspective of PFOs’ cooperation over time: from cooperation for “timber production and supplying to the market” to cooperation for “multifunctional and sustainable forest management”, “biodiversity conservation” and “climate change mitigation”. The results also showed the influence of forest policy on PFOs cooperation.

Blockchain Technology in Open Government: A Bibliometric Network Analysis in Scopus

The present study aimed to analyze the bibliometric network in Scopus on blockchain technology in open government between the years 2015 and 2023. It was a bibliometric analysis that defined the metrics of scientific production. The indicators were obtained from 132 papers chosen from the Scopus database using keywords in English (Blockchain, open government). The results show that the year with the highest scientific production was 2022 (n=34; 25.8%). In addition, India (23.3%; n=37) is the country with the most publications, while the journal Lecture Notes in Computer Science published 8 (195 citations) papers, with author Ølnes, S. being the most cited (125 citations; n= 2 papers). From the analyzed studies, it is concluded that blockchain technology in open government has increased as a function of available resources, topics and authors, because blockchain is a quantitative tool that promotes the permanent construction of open, dynamic, transparent and efficient institutions.

The Interplay of Religion and the Visual Arts: A Bibliometric Network Analysis (1991–2023)

Since the emergence of digital media in the 1990s, a new realm of interaction between the visual arts and religion has been forged and evolved. The spread of visual media technologies has significantly influenced the study of religious visual art worldwide after the 1990s. Despite this, the field of religious visual art during the digital era is still relatively uncharted, with a notable absence of comprehensive theoretical frameworks. To address this gap, the present paper employs bibliometric methods, conducting a thorough review and analysis of 2544 pieces of international academic literature in the domain of religion and visual arts post-1990s. The analytical framework is structured into three primary sections, each dedicated to answering key questions: (1) what constitutes the inherent relationship in the study of religion and visual art?, (2) what disciplinary context do these interplays occur within?, and (3) in which domains and regions does this interplay predominantly unfold? The outcomes of this rigorous analysis offer valuable insights into interdisciplinary influences and evolving research trends within the realm of religious visual art. These findings stand to benefit art researchers and practitioners, providing a comprehensive overview of potential avenues for the exploration of visual arts with religious themes. Through a systematic investigation, this research endeavors to heighten scholars’ awareness of the significance of visual arts in the field of religion and illuminate the interdisciplinary trends at the intersection of religion and visual arts.

Five decades of research on immediate implant therapy: A modern bibliometric network analysis via Altmetric and level of evidence mapping.

To conduct a bibliometric network analysis to explore the research landscape of immediate implant placement (IIP) and provide insights into its trends and contributors. The Scopus database was utilized as the bibliographic source, and a search strategy was implemented to identify relevant research articles. Various bibliometric parameters were extracted, including publication year, journal, authors, citations, and funding. The analysis involved examining authorship patterns, international collaborations, level of evidence, Altmetric data, and funding analysis. We identified a steady annual growth rate of 6.49% in IIP research. The top three countries contributing to research output were the USA, Italy, and China. Prolific authors were identified based on publication and citation metrics. International collaborations among different countries were observed. The level of evidence analysis revealed that over 30% of the articles fell into higher levels of evidence (levels 1 and 2). Altmetric data analysis indicated no significant correlations between citation counts and Altmetric Attention Score (AAS), and conversely a significant association with Mendeley readers count. Funding and open access did not significantly impact the bibliometric indices of the papers. The focus of research on IIP has been evolving as indicated by an exponential growth rate in this study. Only approximately 16% of the articles fit into level 1 evidence, therefore, emphasizing on higher quality level research study shortage in this field. Modern indices can be used as new bibliometric indicators as they also cover social media and online attention scores.

Feed production for sustainable aquaculture: A Bibliometric Network Analysis

In recent years, aquaculture has played a fundamental role in human nutrition and livestock for the ability to produce different animal and vegetable protein and lipid sources essential for human and animal health. However, the growing increase in aquaculture has led to a greater demand for ingredients composing feed for aquatic organisms, many of which are derived from wild fish making the aquatic feed production an unsustainable process. For this reason, the aquaculture sector has expanded experimentation to search for alternative ingredients to reduce environmental impact. This study explored the global scientific literature on sustainable aquaculture with particular reference to feeding using VOSviewer software, which allows for generating, visualizing, and exploring maps based on bibliometric network data. The results allowed a comprehensive overview of the scientific literature on sustainable aquaculture through network maps displaying the relationships among keywords, authors, countries, and journals. In detail, this paper highlighted that in the last years, particularly in recent decades, the research widely focused attention on different aspects of the sustainable aquaculture field. The first journal that researched sustainable aquaculture was the Aquaculture Journal, and the leading countries that pursued this type of research were the USA, UK, and China. Concerning the co-occurrence, the top keywords were aquaculture, sustainability, animals, nonhuman, and sustainable development, highlighting a growing interest in research on microalgae, diet, fishmeal, and climate change. The description of the current state of the art in sustainable aquaculture reported in this article highlighted that the combined use of social network analysis and bibliometrics allows exploring the development of research in specific fields of science and lays the foundations for delving into questions that have not yet been sufficiently investigated.

Energy‐saving technologies and energy efficiency in the post‐COVID era

AbstractThe COVID‐19 pandemic made people reevaluate their energy consumption and energy efficiency. It held up a mirror to humanity's opportunistic and ruthless deployment of energy sources. As the city streets went empty and the international air traffic stopped altogether, people witnessed the significant drop in CO2 emissions, realized their dependence upon energy sources, and became aware of global climate change. In addition, with lockdowns and home offices, the demand for energy and the usual peak hours shifted offering a new perspective in energy consumption. The pandemic delivered a devastating blow to the human belief in having the constant and everlasting supply of energy that can be relied upon in everything. All these attracted the attention of researchers focusing on energy consumption and efficiency during the COVID‐19 pandemic. As a result, the vast body of academic literature on the topic burgeoned in the past four years yielding many exciting perspectives and viewpoints. Our paper conducts a comprehensive review of this body of literature employing the bibliometric network analysis of 12960 publications indexed in Web of Science database. It demonstrates the potential benefits and challenges associated with implementing energy‐saving technologies, altering energy consumption behavior, and implementing novel ICT solutions in a post‐COVID world. In addition, it highlights the importance of energy efficiency measures and examines novel technologies that can contribute to a sustainable and resilient energy future. Our findings emphasize the need for robust policies, technological advancements, and public engagement for fostering energy efficiency and mitigating environmental impacts of post‐pandemic energy consumption.

Misconceptions in Biology Education: A Bibliometric Analysis

It is of great importance to examine and organize the misconceptions researches in biology education at regular intervals and to determine the trends. The aim of this study is to examine the studies on misconceptions in biology education in terms of different variables. Bibliometric network analysis method was used in the research. Here, firstly, reports on misconceptions in biology education were obtained by using “biology and misconception” in the “Social Sciences” category from SCOPUS. Accordingly, 410 publications was recorded. The documents were exported to CSV form and in turn subjected to the bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer Software. According to the results obtained, it was determined that the most studies were carried out in 2013. It showed that the most frequently used keywords in articles were “evolution” and other related words. Looking at the most frequently used terms, the terms "respiration" and “photosynthesis” are respectively according to their high relevance scores. In conclusion, we must state that misconception studies on the subjects that students have the most difficulty with in biology have remained up-to-date for many years.
