Maliye ve Finans Yazıları Dergisi’nde Yayımlanmış Makalelerin Bibliyometrik Analizi (2009-2018)

Within the scope of the study, bibliometric citation analysis technique, which is one of the qualitative research methods of the Journal of Finance and Finance Articles/Writings, which is an international refereed and academic journal, was examined and 159 articles in 29 issues published between 2009-2018 were examined. A published special issue was not included in the analysis. Questions to be answered in the research are as follows: How many is the total number of articles in the journal? How many is the number of articles per author? Who is the most productive writer? What is the status of multi-authorship of articles? Which are the institutions of authors? What is the distribution of titles of authors? How many is the average number of articles per year? What is the distribution of using method and language? Are there any with Pareto, Price and Lotka Laws?

Examining the relationship between academic book citations and Goodreads reader opinion and rating

Although the traditional bibliometric citation database is an established academic impact assessment source, in this paper, we examine the role of social media impact on academic books. We identified the highly cited books in Scopus and compared the citations with ratings and reviews on the Goodreads website. R stat was used to extract the data from Goodreads website. We found that there is an uneven distribution of Goodreads rating and reviews. Social science books received the highest number of user’s ratings, reviews and citations. The study finds that there is no relationship between citation counts and Goodreads ratings and reviews count in social science books. Although social science books generated the highest number of studies and engagement by the readers, there seems to be no evidence to suggest that this engagement results in an academic citation. Whereas, a correlation was observed between health science books citations and Goodreads overall rating, as with physical science book reviews and Google Scholar citation counts.

Intellectual structure of international new venture research

PurposeThis paper aims to identify the most influential papers/authors, publication outlets and theoretical and empirical research topics of the international new venture (INV) literature.Design/methodology/approachThe authors examine the intellectual structure of the INV literature using bibliometric citation and co-citation analysis. The authors focus on the 100 most cited papers in this research stream published between 1994 and 2015. In the post-hoc reading, they supplement their main bibliometric techniques with the content analysis method to shed light on some issues.FindingsThe authors find that the literature has grown significantly over the past two decades, increasing its relevancy in the academic discourse. The findings show the interdisciplinary nature of the INV literature, where we can find different research topics: Definition of INVs, measurements of “newness” and “degree of internationalization” and the characteristics of international entrepreneurs; time dimension in terms of speed of internationalization; international versus domestic new ventures; and the relationships between firm-specific advantages, international strategy and INV performance.Originality/valueThe authors identify the most influential studies and authors in the INV discipline and show its evolution from the very start to the present. They present the key topics in the literature and highlight the theoretical debates and the inconsistencies between theoretical conceptualization and measurements in the empirical work. The authors offer suggestions for promising future research directions and identify the major conceptual framework on which future research can be constructed. Overall, this study contributes to enhance the understanding of the INV phenomenon and provides useful new insights.

Relationship Between Pre-Residency Peer-Reviewed Publications and Subsequent G-Index Measurement of United States Radiation Oncology Resident Scholarly Activity

Measured by assessing the largest number of manuscripts (g) by an author which have been cited at least (g x g) times, the g-index has been associated with radiation oncology resident choice of academic versus private practice career. Pre-residency peer-reviewed publications (PRP) have also been associated with future resident career choice. The relationship between PRP and g-index has not been previously investigated. A list of recent radiation oncology resident graduates was compiled; the Scopus bibliometric citation database was then searched to collect and calculate g-index data for each resident as previously reported. Analyses were stratified based on the absence or presence of at least one PRP for each resident. Residents with at least one PRP had significantly higher g-index scores (10.41 versus 3.43; p<0.0001) than those with no PRP. Only 11 of the 87 residents (12.6%) with at least one PRP had a g-index < 4, compared with more than half (45/87; 51.7%) having a g-index of 10+. Of the residents with no PRP, 63.2% (48/76) had a g-index < 4, and only 13.2% (10/76) had a g-index of 10+; 23/76 (30.2%) had a g-index of zero. Radiation oncology residents with at least one PRP were significantly more likely than those with no PRP to have higher g-index scores, with a wide distinction in the likelihood of a double-digit score stratified by the presence or absence of PRP. The average resident with at least one PRP published 10 manuscripts cited at least 100 times, while the average resident with no PRP published three manuscripts cited at least nine times. These findings further cement PRP as an important, easily accessible tool during the residency application process for predicting future resident scholarly activity.

Evolution of the intellectual structure of clothing and textiles literature

Citation frequency is an important factor in evaluating journal quality and is used as a measure of journal impact. The citation index of a paper plays an important role in linking papers with groups of other academic papers, forming a huge and complex network. This study examines the intellectual structure of apparel research through the bibliometric citation analysis of The Research Journal of the Costume Culture (RJCC). In order to analyze the changes in the intellectual structure of the RJCC, we used the Korea Citation Index’s (KCI) data (highly citing journals and highly cited journals). The NodeXL, a social network analysis tool, was used to examine the connection structure between journals. In order to identify the academic influence of the RJCC, we used the KCI journal citation index. Our findings indicate that the RJCC has a high centrality index among the clothing-oriented journals in the same life sciences field. A look at the journals citing the RJCC and the journals cited within the RJCC also showed that more journals of diverse fields have been recently linked through their citations. This suggests that a convergence of interdisciplinary research is underway in the field of clothing. As a result of examining international journals cited in the RJCC, it was confirmed that they were cited in prominent international journals in various fields.

The 100 most cited manuscripts in coronary artery bypass grafting.

To gain a better understanding of the progression of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and its impact on clinical practice, bibliometric citation analysis can be performed. Bibliometric citation analysis is a method of determining the most influential papers on a topic based on several citations and impact factor. A search of the Thomson Reuters Web of Science citation indexing database and research platform was completed using the terms "CABG," "Coronary artery bypass graft," "Coronary artery," "bypass," and/or "bypass grafting." The returned dataset was sorted by the number of citations. The search yielded a total of 11 560 papers which were ranked in order of citations. New England Journal of Medicine published the most papers in the top 100 and generated the most significant number of citations with 20 papers in total followed by Journal of the American College of Cardiology. It also has the highest impact factor and 5-year impact fact in 2007 of 79.26 and 67.513, respectively. The most cited manuscripts by Serruys et al described a randomised trial comparing percutaneous coronary intervention and CABG for treating severe coronary artery disease. This work provides the most influential references related to CABG and serves as a guide as to the area of focus in CABG.

Knowledge management in franchising: a research agenda

PurposeThis paper aims to offer a comprehensive systematic review of knowledge management (KM) in franchising literature over the past 29 years.Design/methodology/approachBy means of bibliometric citation analysis, ISI Web of Science (WoS) database is used to analyze articles from 1990-2018. A total of 169 articles by 369 authors across 40 countries published in 113 journals from 200 institutions were clustered and examined through HistCites and VOSviewer.FindingsThe exploration of KM in franchising is associated with 3 factors: governance structure; performance outcome; and franchise network growth. The findings also reveal that KM in franchising is still an emerging discipline encompassing conflicting results which offer potential for future research.Research limitations/implicationsIdentified research gaps and contradicting views in the literature offer opportunities for researchers to contribute to this research domain by empirically testing the role of absorptive capacity, replication vs adaptation strategies and new franchising formats, such as micro/social franchising.Originality/valueThis study is unique in its examination of KM in franchising. It also highlights the value of knowledge in franchise chain performance.

The Scopus bibliometric citation database was searched to collect and calculate g-index data for each resident. The mean g-index score for all resident graduates was 7.16. Residents with a PhD had significantly higher g-index scores (11.97 versus 5.80; p<0.01), while there was no statistically significant difference in g-index scores between male and female residents. Residents choosing academic careers had higher g-index scores than those choosing private practice (9.47 versus 4.99; p<0.01). Programs graduating at least three residents produced significantly higher g-index scores/resident than those graduating two residents, and while comprising only 25% of programs and 45% of residents, produced 60% of academic careers (p<0.02). Radiation oncology resident graduates published on average a minimum of seven manuscripts cited at least 49 times. PhD-degree graduates had significantly higher g-index scores, as did residents choosing academic over private practice careers. There was no significant gender-related difference in g-index score regardless of career choice. The majority of academic careers are produced from programs graduating at least three residents.

A bibliometric review of sukuk literature

Sukuk (Islamic bonds) are one of the Islamic finance sectors that have experienced the fastest growth during the last decade. Using a quali-quantitative approach known as meta-literature review, the aim of this paper is to survey the sukuk literature over the period 1950–2018. In total we review and analyze 80 papers through bibliometric citation analysis (using HistCite and VOSviewer software) coupled with content analysis. We show the influential aspects of the literature, such as countries, institutions, journals, authors, articles and topics. We also present the co-authorship network and identify three research streams: (1) sukuk overview and growth, (2) sukuk and finance theories, (3) sukuk and stock market behavior. Through the review and analysis of the published research on sukuk, we finally provide 11 future research questions in order to extend the research on this topic.

Seaport competitiveness research: the past, present and future

This study presents a review of articles with a focus on seaport competitiveness from the maritime literature. We investigated how port competitiveness research has evolved during the last two decades using bibliometric citation analysis tools and techniques. Bibliography data, collected from the ISI Web of Science database, consisted of 267 research papers by 465 authors in 117 journals. Based on citation analysis, we identified the key universities, journals and articles and their impact on port competitiveness research. Also, seven key research streams with few sub-streams were revealed as a result of a mixed co-citation and in-depth content analysis of the most cited articles. A bibliometric co-citation mapping technique was used to show how the key articles are built on each other. Key research papers and their concepts, methods and findings are also discussed. Finally, we present some strategic research challenges and future research agendas.

This paper reviewed the theoretical foundations of performance models in SCM over time, and proposed a holistic view by identifying the associations of existing SCM models and performance measures. A sample of 2,340 articles by 4,431 authors were thoroughly analysed using a bibliometric citation meta-technique. The articles published in nineteen top rated journals A*, A and B according to the ABS and Financial Times academic rankings in operations management discipline were extracted from the ISI Web of Science database. Using the HistCite, VOSviewer and Gephi tools, the research on performance measurement models since 1990 was mapped. Major findings of the work categorised into three research sub-streams as theoretical foundations were identified based on the 30 highly-cited papers. The most influential contributions were corroborated to propose a conceptual framework, demonstrating how the performance measures and SCM models are associated with each other using organisation theories.

A comprehensive look at luxury brand marketing research from 2000 to 2016: a bibliometric study and content analysis

The purpose of this study is to examine how scholarly research on luxury brand marketing has evolved in the twenty-first century. This literature review focuses on 242 articles related to luxury marketing. The contributions of these articles are thoroughly analyzed, combining qualitative interpretations with bibliometric citation analysis that uses a social network of referrals. This study identifies the most influential universities, research outlets, and scholars in the recent evolution of luxury marketing research. The study also identifies current and future research streams, geographic scope, and underlying research methodologies, and it reveals the most frequently used theories and prominent constructs in luxury marketing research. There are few studies that have examined the literature review of the luxury marketing discipline. No previous research has investigated luxury branding by means of a bibliometric analysis and qualitative assessment within such a large scope. Building on the results of this analysis, researchers can target their studies precisely and, thus, increase the contributions of their empirical research.

The most influential publications in cervical myelopathy.

Management of cervical myelopathy (CM) has continued to evolve through a better understanding of the long-term outcomes of this diagnosis as well as improved diagnostic guidelines. More recent literature continues to expand the field, but certain publications can be distinguished from others due to their lasting impact. Using the Clarivate Analytics Web of Science, search phrases were used to identify publications pertaining to CM. The fifty most cited articles were isolated. The frequency of citations, year of publication, country of origin, journal of publication, level of evidence (LOE), article type, as well as contributing authors and institutions were recorded. We also highlighted the five most cited articles (per year) from the past 10 years. Publications included ranged from 1952-2011, with the plurality of articles published during 2000-2009 (n=21; 42%). The most cited paper was Hillibrand's 1999 reporting of adjacent segment disease rates following cervical fusions, followed by Hirabayashi's 1983 review of his cervical laminoplasty outcomes. The third most cited was Brain's 1952 review of the manifestations of cervical spondylosis. Spine contributed the most publications (n=26; 52%). A LOE of III was the most common (n=30; 60%). Clinical outcome articles were the most frequent type (n=28; 56%). Osaka University (Japan) and Kazou Yonenobu had the most contributions. Ames or Fehlings were the first or last author in each of the five most influential articles from the past 10 years. This bibliometric citation analysis identifies the most influential articles regarding CM. There are few publications with a high LOE, and more high powered studies are needed. Knowledge of these "classic" publications allows for a better overall understanding of the diagnosis, treatment, and future direction of research of CM.

Relationship between Citation-Based Scholarly Activity of United States Radiation Oncology Residents and Subsequent Choice of Academic versus Private Practice Career

Citation-based scholarly activity of physicians has become increasingly evaluated via the Hirsch index (h-index), which assesses the number of manuscripts (h) that have been cited at least h times. However, such evaluation involving Radiation Oncology residents is lacking in the peer-reviewed literature. The objective of this study was to assess h-index data and its association with resident choice of academic versus private practice career. A combination of internet searches, telephone interviews, and the 2015 Association of Residents in Radiation Oncology (ARRO) directory was used to compile a list of 2016 radiation oncology resident graduates (163 residents from 76 Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-certified programs) and their post-residency career choice (academic versus private practice) as previously described (McClelland et al., Practical Radiation Oncology 2017). The Scopus bibliometric citation database was then searched to collect h-index data for each resident. Demographics included in analyses were gender and PhD degree status. The mean h-index score for all resident graduates was 4.15. Residents with a PhD had significantly higher h-index scores (6.75 versus 3.42; p<0.01), while there was no statistically significant difference in h-index scores between male and female residents (4.38 versus 3.36; p=0.14). With regard to career choice, residents choosing academic careers had higher h-index scores than those choosing private practice (5.41 versus 2.96; p<0.01). There was no significant difference in mean h-index scores between male and female residents regardless of private practice (3.15 versus 2.19; p=0.25) or academic (5.80 versus 4.30; p=0.13) career choice. Twenty-one of the 23 residents (91.3%) with an h-index of zero went into private practice, while 13 of the 18 residents (72.2%) with an h-index of at least 10 went into academics. Of the 17 residents with an h-index of one, 12 (70.6%) went into private practice. The average radiation oncology resident graduate has published a minimum of four manuscripts cited at least four times. Graduates with a PhD are significantly more likely to have higher h-index scores, as are residents who choose academic over private practice careers. Eighty-three percent of residents with an h-index score less than two chose private practice careers. There is no significant difference in h-index score between male and female residents regardless of career choice. These results offer up-to-date benchmarks for evaluating radiation oncology resident productivity and have potential utility in predicting career choices post-residency.

Importance of First and Second Authorship in Assessing Citation-Based Scholarly Activity of United States Radiation Oncology Residents and Subsequent Choice of Academic versus Private Practice Career

The Hirsch index (h-index) has become increasingly popular in assessing citation-based scholarly activity of physicians, and has been shown to correlate with Radiation Oncology residents having a first job in academics versus private practice. A limitation of the h-index methodology is its inability to distinguish between the differing significance of co-author roles in manuscripts (i.e. first author versus fifth author). This study was performed to assess the role of first and second author publications and their association with resident pursuit of academic versus private practice career. A list of 2016 radiation oncology resident graduates (163 residents from 76 Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-certified programs) and their post-residency career choice (academic versus private practice) was compiled as previously described (McClelland et al., Practical Radiation Oncology 2017). The SCOPUS bibliometric citation database was then searched to collect h-index data for manuscripts limited to first-author only (hf) and first or second-author only (hs) for each resident. Demographics included in analyses were gender and PhD degree status. The mean hf was 2.06 for all resident graduates; mean hs was 2.77. Residents with a PhD had significantly higher hf (3.11 versus 1.76; p<0.01) and hs (4.50 versus 2.28; p<0.01). There was no statistically significant difference between male and female residents fpr hf (2.19 versus 1.61; p=0.11) or hs (2.91 versus 2.25; p=0.15). With regard to career choice, residents going on to academic jobs had higher hf (2.72 versus 1.44; p<0.01) and hs (3.57 versus 2.01; p<0.01) than those choosing private practice. Less than 20% of graduates with hf of zero chose academic careers, and only 10% of graduates with hs of zero went on to academic jobs. The average radiation oncology resident graduate has published a minimum of two first and/or second-author manuscripts cited at least twice. As with the traditional h-index, graduates with a PhD and/or choosing academic careers are more likely to have higher hf and hs scores, and there is no significant difference in scores between male and female residents. Noteworthy is that only 10% of graduates without any first and/or second-author manuscripts cited at least once went on to academic jobs. These findings indicate that stratifying publications by first or second authorship when developing benchmarks for evaluating both radiation oncology resident productivity and post-residency career choices may be useful. This work represents the first demonstration of these assessment measures in radiation oncology, and show that they are well associated with post-residency career type. Consequently, these measures deserve further study.

The impact of open access citation and social media on leading top Information Science journals

El objetivo de esta investigación fue verificar las posibles ventajas que el acceso abierto puede ofrecer al área de la Ciencia de la Información. Para ello, se analizaron los indicadores bibliométricos de citas y los datos de altmetría en 16 revistas científicas híbridas, seleccionadas mediante el Journal Citation Reports y filtradas con base en sus respectivos factores de impacto. La recolección de datos fue realizada en Web of Science, Google Scholar, Altmetric.com y Mendeley. Esta verificación se realizó en dos periodos de tiempo diferentes para examinar si hubo alguna influencia del acceso abierto en el tiempo. Los resultados indican que el acceso abierto puede ofrecer una ventaja en el número de citas y menciones en las redes sociales para el conjunto de artículos de las revistas analizadas aquí, y que esta ventaja es mayor para los casos en que los autores pagaron el cargo por procesamiento del artículo a garantizar la disponibilidad inmediata del artículo en acceso abierto al momento de la publicación. En la conclusión se afirma que no es sólo el acceso abierto el que provoca una mayor cantidad de citas a un artículo, aunque ayuda, sino la calidad del propio artículo.

The 100 most-cited articles in orthodontics: A bibliometric study.

To identify and analyze the 100 most-cited articles in orthodontics indexed in the Web of Science Category of "Dental, Oral Surgery and Medicine" from 1946 to 2016. On hundred articles were identified in a search of the database of the ISI Web of Science and Journal Citation Reports, applying the truncated search term "orthodon*." Records were manually refined and normalized to unify terms and to remove typographical, transcription, and/or indexing errors. The 100 most-cited articles were published between 1946 and 2012, with numbers of citations ranging from 115 to 881. Of the 251 authors participating, 87.65% published a single work, while three authors published four works. Most of the authors with several citations were from the United States, although the University of Oslo produced the highest number of frequently cited works. Most of the articles were clinical studies, and the most frequently cited topic was mini-implants. It was noted that self-citation could be a potential cause of bias in bibliometric analysis. This bibliometric citation analysis reveals new, useful, and interesting information about scientific progress in the field of orthodontics.

A review of the internationalization of Chinese enterprises

This article reviews the scholarly research on the internationalization of Chinese enterprises (ICE) through bibliometric citation analysis. We do so through a data visualization technique and analysis of 206 articles which are authored by 382 scholars in 72 different journals published between 2003 and 2016. The results reveal four research streams in the context of ICE: (1) testing traditional FDI theory, (2) location choice, (3) entry mode choice, and (4) drivers and motivations of internationalization. While international business (IB) journals, such as the Journal of World Business, the Journal of International Business Studies, and International Business Review, have taken a lead role in pushing the ICE literature stream forward, geographically focused general management journals, such as the Asia Pacific Journal of Management and Management & Organization Review, have also made a singular contribution. The impact of perspective, in terms of author and institution affiliation, on the literature set is also examined. Finally, issues related to data, methodological rigor and theoretical underpinnings are highlighted. To advance the ICE literature, we proposed a holistic framework of drivers and motivations of Chinese outward FDI and present some promising future research areas.
