Bibliographies are the subways of scholarship. Unseen, silent, they can whisk us to wherever we hope to go or they can take us to the most unexpected places for surprises both welcome and unwelcome: on occasion a broken track can lead to confusion, long stops in service, and even disaster. But without them we must often invent our own modes of getting around, at great cost of time and effort. No wonder serious students respect and admire good bibliographers, although their names are usually known only to the select few. In Research in Dance: A Guide to Resources, Mary Bopp of the Indiana University library goes beyond the traditional bibliography to introduce the reader to a mass of material in addition to books. These, however, are not neglected.
