On the 120th Anniversary of Daniil Kharms’s Birth (review of memoir sources)

The article provides an overview of memoir literature about Daniil Kharms (1905–1942). The subject of this study is memoir sources containing biographical information about the writer, which were uncovered by the authors in the process of working on the volume “Literary Life of the USSR” of the retrospective annotated bibliographic index “Soviet Society in Memories and Diaries” and the index “History of Russia and the USSR in Memories and Diaries”, the part of a series of indexes on native memoirs created by employees of the Russian State Library, the Russian National Library and the State Historical Public Library. The review uses not a biographical, but a chronological approach to the study and presentation of the material, based on the time of publication of the sources to analyze the dynamics of the appearance of memoir publications and their dependence on the events of political and cultural life, from the first rare mentions of Kharms in the memoirs of the early 1960s.

Body composition differences in older adults with and without Alzheimer's disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies.

Research on body composition and fat distribution in Alzheimer's disease (AD) has presented conflicting findings. Compare body composition and anthropometric measurements in older adults with and without AD. A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted following Cochrane guidelines and PRISMA standards. MEDLINE, Embase, Scopus, LILACS, WPRIM, and the Spanish Bibliographic Index of Health Sciences were searched up to September 2024, considering observational studies that compared body composition between AD groups and controls. Outcomes included body fat percentage, body mass index (BMI), impedance, resistance, and reactance. The methodological quality and level of evidence were assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute scale and GRADE, respectively. A random-effects meta-analysis model was used to calculate mean differences (MD). Fourteen studies involving 2761 older adults were included. Older adult women with AD showed a lower body fat percentage (p < 0.01; MD = -5.07) and BMI (p = 0.05; MD = -1.28) compared to controls. Older adult men with AD had higher impedance (p = 0.01; MD = 2.05), resistance (p = 0.02; MD = 45.10), and lower reactance (p = 0.03; MD = -2.05) compared to controls. No significant differences in body fat percentage or BMI were found between older adults with and without AD, regardless of gender. Women with AD showed lower body fat percentage and BMI, while men with AD had higher impedance, resistance, and lower reactance. These factors should be included in geriatric assessments for AD patients, though further research is needed to understand their link to cognitive outcomes in AD.

The article analyzes the corpus of informational and bibliographic materials that appeared in “Notes of the Shevchenko Scientific Society” as “Proceedings of the Historical and Philosophical Section”, published in 1924–1937 under the editorship of Ivan Krypiakevych. The editor’s ambitious plans to raise their level, increase their periodicity, bring back the sections, which were popular before the war, and involve reputable historians in their coope­ration were hindered by limited funding and a shortage of appropriate authors. In total, 55 scientific articles, 17 short notices in the “Miscellanea” section, as well as informative and bibliographic materials, which became the subject of the study, were published in eight volumes of “Proceedings”. Among them, the ret­rospective bibliographic index “Ukrainian historical bibliography for 1914–1923”, compiled by Ivan Kalynovych, has the greatest value. Two bibliographic reviews prepared by I. Krypiakevych – “New works on the history of the Hetmanate of the 17th–18th centuries” and “Historical publications of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences in Kyiv 1926–1927” were successfully included in the “Proceedings” genre palette. Reviews of historiographical monographs by Dmytro Bagalii (Vyacheslav Zaikin), Stepan Tomashivskyi and Vyacheslav Lypynskyi (Ivan Krevetskyi) are published in the “Chronicle” sec­tion. Ilko Borschak added an autobibliographic list of works to “Reports from experiments in the archives of Western Europe”. Continuing the tradition of the pre-war “Notes”, the editor published in “Proceedings” an anniversary essay (for the 50th anniversary of Yukhym Si­tsinskyi’s scientific work) and obituaries (of Danylo Shcherbakivskyi (1877–1927); Volodymyr Zavitnevych (1853–1927); Stepan Tomashivskyi (1875–1930); Vyacheslav Lypynskyi (1882–1930); Raimund Friedrich Kaindl (1866–1930). Adequate biobibliographic information was an indispensable and important component of these publications. Thus, “Notes of the Shevchenko Scientific Society. Proceedings of the Historical and Philosophical Section” made public not only the results of theoretical historical studies, but also partly filled some gaps in the Ukrainian branch historical bibliography of the 20–30’s years of the last century. The proposed article describes the new acquisitions to the personal papers of the outstanding Ukrainian bibliographer Ivan Tytovych Kalynovych in the Manuscript Department of Vasyl Stefanyk National Scientific Library of Ukraine in Lviv that his family brought from Canada. Among the newly acquired original archival materials there are two diplomatic documents issued by the government of the Western Ukrainian National Republic (ZUNR) for travel abroad (1919), a letter of Mykhailo Hrushevskyi with the terms of publication of the work “Bibliography of Ukrainian sociological and socialist literature for the years 1871–1920” (1921), the Agreement between Osyp Nazaruk on behalf of the ZUNR government and Ivan Kalynovych concer­ning the publication of the work “Bibliography of Ukrainian Political Litera­ture” (1921). The attempt to investigate some little-known aspects of socio- political and bibliographic activities of Ivan Kalynovych during emigration in Vienna in 1919–1922, in particular, his relationship with Mykhailo Hrushevskyi was made. The article includes the first preliminary Inventory of the bibliographic works by Ivan Kalynovych which were acquired by the Manuscript Department of the Lviv Branch of the Library of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR in 1940, i.e. in the period of formation of the Library’s ma­nuscript collection. The first processing of the bibliographer’s papers brought from Zolochiv was carried out, particularly the card index was organized in April – May, 1941. The article presents photo illustrations of some documents. Nutritional Modulation of the Gut-Brain Axis: A Comprehensive Review of Dietary Interventions in Depression and Anxiety Management.

Mental health is an increasing topic of focus since more than 500 million people in the world suffer from depression and anxiety. In this multifactorial disorder, parameters such as inflammation, the state of the microbiota and, therefore, the patient's nutrition are receiving more attention. In addition, food products are the source of many essential ingredients involved in the regulation of mental processes, including amino acids, neurotransmitters, vitamins, and others. For this reason, this narrative review was carried out with the aim of analyzing the role of nutrition in depression and anxiety disorders. To reach the review aim, a critical review was conducted utilizing both primary sources, such as scientific publications and secondary sources, such as bibliographic indexes, web pages, and databases. The search was conducted in PsychINFO, MedLine (Pubmed), Cochrane (Wiley), Embase, and CinAhl. The results show a direct relationship between what we eat and the state of our nervous system. The gut-brain axis is a complex system in which the intestinal microbiota communicates directly with our nervous system and provides it with neurotransmitters for its proper functioning. An imbalance in our microbiota due to poor nutrition will cause an inflammatory response that, if sustained over time and together with other factors, can lead to disorders such as anxiety and depression. Changes in the functions of the microbiota-gut-brain axis have been linked to several mental disorders. It is believed that the modulation of the microbiome composition may be an effective strategy for a new treatment of these disorders. Modifications in nutritional behaviors and the use of ergogenic components are presented as important non-pharmacological interventions in anxiety and depression prevention and treatment. It is desirable that the choice of nutritional and probiotic treatment in individual patients be based on the results of appropriate biochemical and microbiological tests.

Lessons in Pushkin Studies in the Editorial Practice of A. G. Dostoevskaya

A. S. Pushkin had a great influence on the development of Russian culture in the 19th century, including book publishing. Pushkin’s motifs and images have repeatedly appeared in the works of F. M. Dostoevsky. The last year of the writer’s life was marked by the triumphant “Pushkin’s Speech,” which turned the overall idea of Russian literature upside down. A. G. Dostoevskaya, who began an active bibliographic and publishing life after the death of her husband, followed the tradition of Pushkin’s publications in it. By the time the Complete Works of F. M. Dostoevsky were published, Pushkin studies had already actively solved textual problems, thereby facilitating subsequent researchers and publishers to work on compiling collections of works and bibliographies of writers. Systematizing her husband’s collected materials, A. G. Dostoevskaya focused on the bibliographic index of Pushkin’s works “Puschkiniana,” compiled by V. I. Mezhov. This is evidenced by the notes she made in her notebooks. The main consultant to the writer’s widow, who for several years had been independently preparing the first bibliography of Dostoevsky for publication, was P. A. Efremov, bibliographer, Pushkin scholar and editor of the Complete Works of A. S. Pushkin. In the poet’s anniversary year of 1899, A. G. Dostoevskaya published Dostoevsky’s Pushkin’s Speech in a separate edition, calling it “Pushkin” and thereby contributing to the celebration of the founder of Russian literature. Pushkin’s work played a significant role not only in Dostoevsky’s biography and literary legacy, but also in the bibliographic and traditional activities of the writer’s wife.

Bibliographic and printing activities of the central library of the Academy of Sciences Lit. SSR in 1946-1985

In the post-war period, alongside completing and cataloging, bibliographic service was organized in the Central Library of the Academy of Sciences of the Lithuanian SSR. The 11th conference of directors of the libraries of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in 1950 decided that bibliographical reviews of publications issued by Academies of Sciences in every Union Republic should be published. Following this decision, the Central Library compiled the first bibliographical index covering the publications of the Academy of Sciences and its scientists during the period 1941-1954. In 1956, this bibliographical index was published. Since then, such indices have been published annually. The total number of books published up to this time is 26. At the beginning of the sixties and afterwards, much attention was paid to the publishing of retrospective bibliographical indices. Linguistic, historic, geologic, and materials from other sciences were included. Much attention was also given to publishing monographs on book science.

Amenable Mortality in Children under 5: An Indicator for Identifying Inequalities in Healthcare Delivery: A Review.

Universal health coverage has been proposed as a strategy to improve health in low- and middle-income countries, but this depends on a good provision of health services. Under-5 mortality (U5M) reflects the quality of health services, and its reduction has been a milestone in modern society, reducing global mortality rates by more than two-thirds between 1990 and 2020. However, despite these impressive achievements, they are still insufficient, and most deaths in children under 5 can be prevented with the provision of timely and high-quality health services. The aim of this paper is to conduct a literature review on amenable (treatable) mortality in children under 5. This indicator is based on the concept that deaths from certain causes should not occur in the presence of timely and effective medical care. A systematic and exhaustive review of available literature on amenable mortality in children under 5 was conducted using MEDLINE/PubMed, Cochrane CENTRAL, OVID medline, Scielo, Epistemonikos, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar in both English and Spanish. Both primary sources, such as scientific articles, and secondary sources, such as bibliographic indices, websites, and databases, were used. Results: The main cause of amenable mortality in children under 5 was respiratory disease, and the highest proportion of deaths occurred in the perinatal period. Approximately 65% of avoidable deaths in children under 5 were due to amenable mortality, that is, due to insufficient quality in the provision of health services. Most deaths in all countries and around the world are preventable, primarily through effective and timely access to healthcare (amenable mortality) and the management of public health programs focused on mothers and children (preventable mortality).

DEVELOPMENT OF DISTANCE LEARNING IN HIGHER EDUCATION ABROAD IN THE HISTORIOGRAPHY OF UKRAINIAN PEDAGOGICAL SCIENCE

The problem of developing distance learning in higher education in Ukraine became relevant at the intersection of the 1990s and 2000s. During its implementation, foreign experience in this area was actively studied. Thus, the historiography of Ukrainian pedagogical science has accumulated a significant array of various studies that require systematisation and comprehensive analysis. The purpose of the article is to analyse the historiography of Ukrainian pedagogical science on the development of distance learning in the higher education system abroad in order to identify the achievements, bottlenecks and prospects for further research on this issue. It has been determined that the dynamics of the historiographical process under study were marked by three main stages: 1) post-Soviet (1991 - 2000/2001); 2) pro-European (2002 - 2009/2010); 3) ‘globalist’ (since 2011-2012). The scientometric analysis of representative and special thematic bibliographic indexes allowed us to determine the dynamics of the development of research on the foreign experience in organising distance higher education, their thematic perspectives, and the views of scientists on the role of this problem in the structure of scientific and pedagogical knowledge. In addition to scientific articles, which constituted the vast majority (85-90%) of this array of historiographical sources, two to five or seven textbooks and approximately the same number of materials from scientific conferences appeared annually in it. A substantive analysis of representative monographs and theses has been carried out, which reflect the main trends and nature of the development of the historiography of Ukrainian pedagogical science on the organisation of distance learning in the system of higher education abroad. The conclusions indicate that with the appearance of the first studies on the problem under consideration in 1996/7, their growth during the second and third historiographical periods did not actually decrease, but their thematic perspectives changed. Despite the narrow regional studies orientation of such studies, their authors tried to comprehensively cover all the aspects of the development of distance learning in HEIs of foreign countries.

Systematic review on Artificial Intelligence in the editorial management of scientific journals

INTRODUCTION: scientific journals play a crucial role in the dissemination and validation of scientific knowledge, and editorial management ranges from conceptualization to post-publication of content. Artificial intelligence (AI) has had a great impact on scientific communication and editorial management of scientific journals. AI can offer solutions and benefits for editorial management, but it also poses technical, economic, social and ethical challenges that should be considered and approached with caution and responsibility. OBJECTIVE: to describe the benefits and limitations of the use of AI in the editorial management of scientific journals through a systematic literature review. METHOD: a systematic literature review was conducted based on the PRISMA methodology. An information search was carried out in different bibliographic database systems, indexing systems and search engines, and inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied to the identified studies. RESULTS: the information search allowed retrieving a total of 2750 sources, of which 10 articles that met the stated criteria were included. Benefits such as the facilitation of writing, translation, review and editing tasks were identified, as well as limitations related to ethical issues, bias, errors and plagiarism generated by AI. CONCLUSIONS: While AI can streamline the production and analysis of information distribution, it also poses challenges in terms of reliability, ethics and authenticity of published content. It requires the critical involvement of human intelligence for proper exploitation.

Factors associated with suicidal ideation among puerperal women in the context of public health: integrative review

Objective: To synthesize scientific evidence about the factors associated with suicidal ideation in the puerperal period in the context of public health. Methods: Integrative review conducted by the guidelines of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses protocol, carried out in July 2022, in the Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online, Web of Science, Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences, Nursing Database, Spanish Bibliographic Index of Health Sciences, PsycINFO and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature. Results: Seven studies were selected to compose this review. Factors associated with suicidal ideation in the puerperal period were younger, single, unemployed women, having an unemployed partner, having experienced intimate partner violence, having faced stressful events during pregnancy, previous experiences of abortion and marital dissatisfaction, depressive symptoms and other mental disorders (mood disorders, hypomanic symptoms, neuroticism and psychoticism). High self-esteem aimed to reduce ideas of suicide during the postpartum period. Being primigravid, having a harmonious relationship with the mother-in-law, and marital satisfaction were presented as protective factors. Conclusion: The synthesis of the studies showed the association of psychosocial, physiological and sociodemographic factors with suicidal ideation among puerperal women, as well as protective factors.

The Brill Knowledge Graph: A Database of Bibliographic References and Index Terms Extracted from Books in Humanities and Social Sciences

Abstract With the recognition of content discoverability and information analytics in the scientific publishing industry, more and more effort is dedicated to digitization and automated analysis of scholarly publications. As part of this effort, the authors designed a pipeline to extract structured information from bibliography and index lists of existing scholarly publications, as well as to disambiguate and export it as linked data. In this article, the authors present the Brill Knowledge Graph (kg), obtained by applying this pipeline to a corpus of books in the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (ahss) provided by the publisher Brill.

The purpose of the research is determined by the necessity to identify, research, and analyze unrealized publishing projects of the Ukrainian Genealogical and Heraldic Society, which was created and operated in the environment of Ukrainian scientific emigration: "Scientific Collection of Works" and "Bibliographic Index of Ukrainian Emblematics". The research methodology is based on the principles of historicity, objectivity, systematicity, and scientificity. The research used general scientific (analysis and synthesis, classification) and historical (problematic-historical, comparative, chronological) methods. The scientific novelty is that for the first time unrealized publishing projects of the Ukrainian Genealogical and Heraldic Society, which could have an impact on the development of contemporary Ukrainian heraldry, genealogy, sphragistics, and vexillology, will be highlighted. Conclusions. Among the many tasks of the Ukrainian Genealogical and Heraldic Society were publishing projects, the implementation of which directly depended on the financial situation. Although the necessary materials were collected for the "Scientific Collection of Works", it was never published. Because of this, part of these texts were published on the pages of the UHA edition of The Ukrainian Historian journal. During 1969-1971, the Society began work on the preparation of the publication "Bibliographic Index of Ukrainian Emblems", which was supposed to contain more than 1,000 items of literature. However, only eight issues were published in a limited edition for members of the Society, which are of great importance today, because they systematized information on scientific works and research in the field of Ukrainian heraldry, sphragistics, vexillology, and numismatics for the first time. The unrealized publishing projects of the Society testified to objective problems that prevented historical science in the diaspora from developing to its full potential. Today, the analysis of the scientific and publishing activities of the Society and the republishing of individual works of the Society’s members is of great importance for Ukrainian heraldry and genealogy.

Personalizing Nutrition Strategies: Bridging Research and Public Health.

In recent years, although life expectancy has increased significantly, non-communicable diseases (NCDs) continue to pose a significant threat to the health of the global population. Therefore, eating habits have been recognized as key modifiable factors that influence people's health and well-being. For this reason, it is interesting to study dietary patterns, since the human diet is a complex mixture of macronutrients, micronutrients, and bioactive compounds, and can modulate multiple physiological processes, including immune function, the metabolism, and inflammation. To ensure that the data we acquired were current and relevant, we searched primary and secondary sources, including scientific journals, bibliographic indexes, and databases in the last 15 years with the most relevant articles. After this search, we observed that all the recent research on NCDs suggests that diet is a critical factor in shaping an individual's health outcomes. Thus, cardiovascular, metabolic, mental, dental, and visual health depends largely on the intake, habits and patterns, and nutritional behaviors. A diet high in processed and refined foods, added sugars, and saturated fats can increase the risk of developing chronic diseases. On the other hand, a diet rich in whole, nutrient-dense foods, such as vegetables, fruits, nuts, legumes, and a high adherence to Mediterranean diet can improve health's people.

RISK INDICATORS ASSOCIATED WITH THE INCIDENCE OF OBSTETRIC INJURY OF THE ANAL SPHINCTER DURING VAGINAL LABOR

Obstetrical lesions of the anal sphincter (LOEA) consists of third and fourth degree lacerations that can happen during vaginal labor. Its incidence is related to unfavorable outcomes in the health of the postpartum, such as anal incontinence, dyspareunia, sexual dysfunction, and negative repercussions on emotional and psychological health. Objective: To describe the main risk indicators associated with incidence of anal obstetric injury during vaginal labor. Methodology: This is an integrative review of the literature carried out in the indexed materials in the Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE), Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), Nursing Database - BDENF, Index Medicus for the Western Pacific (WPRIM) and Bibliographic Index Español en Ciencias de la Salud (IBECS), used the Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS) in cross-over with the Boolean operator AND and OR, after the application of eligibility criteria were selected 13 studies to compose this review: are: It was evidenced that among the maternal risk indicators associated with LOEA, primiparity, episiotomy, body mass index (?), maternal age &lt; 20 years of age, Asian ethnicity, due to shorter perineal bodies, instrumental delivery, second stage of prolonged labor and previous pregnancy cesarean section history. Fetal factors such as vaginal delivery of pelvic presentation, use of maneuvers to facilitate expulsion and macrosomy, weight &gt; 4 kg were related to an increased risk for anal sphincter lesions. Concluding Considerations: It is observed that maternal and fetal factors are associated with a greater risk of developing anal sphincter lesions, so the identification by health professionals of the main risk indicators in a timely manner is of great importance in the prevention of greater maternal complications.

Prevention and care strategies for people with HIV/AIDS in Primary Health Care

The present work aims to address the main prevention and care strategies for people with HIV/AIDS in Primary Health Care, through an integrative review of the literature. This is an integrative review of the literature, carried out in the Virtual Health Library (VHL). The databases selected were: Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE), Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), Spanish Bibliographic Index in Health Sciences (IBECS) and Nursing Database - BDENF. Using this search parameter, 937 articles were obtained and, after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, only 24 studies were selected to compose the final sample. The results show that prevention and care for people with HIV/AIDS are crucial aspects in the context of PHC, as its approach at this level of care seeks to promote health, prevent diseases and offer comprehensive assistance to the community, playing a role vital role in the comprehensive response to this health condition. The patient-user-centered approach, combined with education and health promotion, regular testing, encouraging the use of condoms, sexual and reproductive health care, counseling and psychological support, antiretroviral treatment, access and availability of PrEP and PeP, Combating stigma and discrimination, integrating RAS, epidemiological monitoring and training professionals is essential to guarantee prevention practices, the quality and effectiveness of the care provided.

Conservative Versus Surgical Management of Acute Appendicitis: A Systematic Review.

Recent studies have discussed the role of antibiotic treatment in the conservative management of acute appendicitis and whether antibiotics are a safe option to replace appendicectomy, which has been the gold standard treatment of acute appendicitis for many years. The bibliographic databases Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), Cochrane, Embase, Medline, and PubMed comparing conservative versus surgical treatment of acute appendicitis were systematically searched according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Twenty-one studies consisting of systematic reviews and meta-analyses involving 44,699 participants were identified. At least 17,865 participants were treated with antibiotics. Our studies compare antibiotic versus appendicectomy among acute appendicitis patients ranging from 7 to 94 years of age. In most studies, patients received parenteral antibiotics for a total of one to three days, and oral antibiotics such as oral cephalosporin plus metronidazole, oral amoxicillin/clavulanate, oral fluoroquinolones plus Tinidazole upon hospital discharge for a total of 7 to 10 days. The total course of antibiotics for both parenteral and oral regimes ranged from 2 to 16 days, with 10 days being the commonest duration. The recurrence rate following initial antibiotic treatment at one-year follow-up ranged from 13% to 38%, while the mean duration of recurrence ranged from three to eight months. The majority of the patients with recurrence underwent appendicectomy, while some patients were either given a repeat or different course of antibiotics due to the possible presence of antibiotic resistance; however, only 2.4% of the patients were successfully treated upon completion of the second course of antibiotics. Most of the studies concluded that appendicectomy remains the gold standard treatment for uncomplicated acute appendicitis, given its higher efficacy and lower complication rates. Although antibiotic treatment cannot be routinely recommended, it can be considered an appropriate alternative in selected patients with uncomplicated appendicitis who wish to avoid surgery and also acknowledge the risk of recurrence and the potential need for subsequent surgery at the same time.
