Objective: The objective of this study is to present the importance of technological innovations in the construction sector, detailing some tools and devices that can be used, aiming to show how the adoption of new technologies can reduce costs and promote sustainable practices. Theoretical Framework: The study highlights research and authors focused on technological innovation and sustainability in construction, providing a solid foundation for understanding the opportunities and challenges faced by the sector in adopting modern technologies. Method: The methodology adopted for this research comprises a bibliographic study, based on academic and electronic sources addressing technological innovations in construction. Results and Discussion: The results highlight the urgent need for modernization in Brazilian construction, showing the positive impact of technology adoption on cost reduction and sustainability. The discussion addresses resistance to innovation and the benefits for companies that adopt technologies, as well as limitations within the sector. Research Implications: The practical and theoretical implications include applications for companies and public policies that encourage innovation and sustainability, promoting greater competitiveness in the sector. Originality/Value: This study demonstrates the relevance of technological innovations in construction, a sector essential to the economy but resistant to change. It highlights how emerging technologies can improve efficiency and sustainability in Brazil.

ESG disclosure and financial performance in debt market: evidence from the oil and gas industry

PurposeThis study aims to analyze the relationship between environmental, social and governance (ESG) ratings and corporate bond credit spreads within the oil and gas (O&G) industry. Given the sector’s significant environmental impact and the current energy transition, it is crucial to understand how ESG disclosure affects financial performance, particularly in terms of debt market dynamics. This research aims to provide empirical evidence on whether ESG efforts by O&G companies influence their cost of borrowing.Design/methodology/approachThis study employs a quantitative approach using secondary data from Refinitiv for the period 2018–2022. To address potential endogeneity issues, we utilize two-stage-least-squares regressions. The analysis focuses on corporate bond spreads as the dependent variable and ESG as the key independent variable.FindingsOur findings indicate a negative association between ESG disclosure and corporate bond spreads. Specifically, companies with higher ESG ratings tend to experience lower credit spreads, suggesting that improved ESG practices may lead to reduced borrowing costs. Additionally, the results show that non-state-owned companies (SOC) benefit more from ESG in terms of financial performance compared to state-owned counterparts.Research limitations/implicationsThe study is limited by its reliance on secondary data from Refinitiv, which may not capture all nuances of ESG practices and financial performance. Additionally, the analysis is confined to the O&G industry, potentially limiting the generalizability of the findings to other sectors. Future research could expand the scope to include other industries and incorporate primary data to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the ESG–financial performance relationship.Practical implicationsThe study’s findings suggest that O&G companies can potentially reduce their borrowing costs by improving their ESG ratings. This insight is valuable for corporate managers and investors, as it highlights the financial benefits of sustainable practices. Additionally, policymakers could use these findings to encourage better ESG disclosure and practices within the industry, ultimately promoting a more sustainable energy sector.Social implicationsBy demonstrating the financial advantages of ESG disclosure, this study underscores the broader social benefits of sustainable business practices. Improved ESG ratings not only contribute to environmental and social well-being but also enhance a company’s financial performance. This dual benefit can motivate more companies to adopt sustainable practices, leading to positive societal impacts such as reduced environmental damage and improved community relations.Originality/valueThis study contributes to the existing literature by providing empirical evidence on the relationship between ESG ratings and corporate bond credit spreads specifically within the O&G industry. By highlighting the differential impact of ESG disclosure on state-owned versus non-SOC, the research offers unique insights that can inform corporate strategies in the context of sustainability and financial performance.

Impact of sports sponsorship on early career athlete performance: Czech case study

The purpose of this study is to investigate the correlation between sponsorship and the performance and development of early career athletes transitioning from junior level to professional sports, because this issue has not been fully explored in the Czech Republic. The reason is the almost absolute absence of financial or material support for such early-career athletes, when their transition from junior categories and the entire junior category is almost always exclusively financed and supported by their parents and families. We also emphasise the absolute absence of legislative provisions that would give supporters of such athletes at least a tax or other advantage. The research is based on research of Cardenas (2023), Hong and Fraser (2023) and Moolman and Shuttleworth (2023) and aims to assess how financial and material support provided by sponsors can enhance an athlete’s performance and long-term career trajectory. A mixed method approach was adopted, combining quantitative analysis through surveys and performance data with qualitative interviews. Data from 173 early career athletes from various disciplines were analysed using t-tests and ANOVA statistical methods to assess financial stability, access to better training, and community participation. Results indicate that sponsorship significantly contributes to better performance metrics, with sponsored athletes showing a 20% improvement in competition results compared to nonsponsored athletes. Furthermore, sponsorship financial support improved training opportunities and access to elite facilities, which was shown to increase athletes’ performance by 15%. However, some challenges related to sponsorship obligations, such as marketing commitments, were highlighted by athletes, underscoring the pressures that sponsorship can introduce. The implications of this study suggest that effective sponsorship strategies can play a vital role in an athlete’s career development, offering not only financial stability but also opportunities for personal branding and increased community engagement. Another implication is a possible consideration for legislators in the context of preparing a legislative framework enabling tax or other benefits for companies and organisations sponsoring or supporting these young athletes. More research is recommended to explore the long-term impact of sponsorship on athlete mental health and career sustainability, as well as the differences in sponsorship effects across various sports disciplines.

The Impact of Stock Introduction on Companies’ Performance: Case of Casablanca Stock Exchange

This study examines the impact of the introduction to stock market on the companies’ performance in order to investigate the post-Initial Public Offering (IPOs) effects for 30 Moroccan companies listed on the Casablanca Stock Exchange (CSE). The research employs a set of 20 indicators, divided into economic, commercial, and financial indicators, to represent different aspects of companies’ performance. Based on the panel of these companies and indicators ranging on 7 years horizon, including a year before stock market introduction, we conduct the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) to examine the effect of IPO on each indicator separately. The results show that companies benefit from revenue growth and a solid asset base, which is crucial for stability. However, the efficiency in using assets to generate income and the profitability of equity are still limited and raise concerns. Moreover, and despite the level of debt being monitored, companies still seem relatively healthy from a financial structure perspective.

Photovoltaic pumping tests: A novel supervision method for photovoltaic water pumping systems

Water pumps powered by photovoltaic energy, often named ‘photovoltaic water pumping systems’ (PVWPS), offer a promising solution for improving water access in developing regions. Regular pumping tests are essential for characterizing boreholes and ensuring sustainable groundwater extraction. Traditionally, these tests are conducted only at the time of PVWPS installation using diesel pumps. However, since PVWPS typically have a lifespan of around 20 years, the borehole's condition may change over time, necessitating ongoing testing. To overcome this challenge, this article presents a novel method for conducting pumping tests using the PVWPS's own photovoltaic modules as the power source, greatly simplifying regular borehole monitoring over the PVWPS's lifespan. This approach improves the long-term technical sustainability of PVWPS. By eliminating the need for diesel generators, it reduces also costs, emissions, and logistical complexity while ensuring continuous water supply during testing. The principle and protocol for these proposed tests are outlined, as well as the key indicators for analysis. Furthermore, the associated costs and benefits are thoroughly explored. The proposed method is applied to a PVWPS in a village in Burkina Faso. This PVWPS has 750 Wp of photovoltaic modules, a 10 m³ water tank, and a 56 m borehole. Results show that the photovoltaic pumping tests allow to accurately determine borehole parameters, achieving a model fit with an average R2 of 0.99. Additionally, a photovoltaic pumping test costs $43, which is significantly lower than standard pumping tests: a multiple step drawdown test costs $511 and a long pumping test costs $2050. Moreover, the proposed photovoltaic pumping tests can prevent premature replacements of PVWPS components, leading to significant savings. While demonstrated in a specific context, this method is transferable to other systems, offering potential benefits for companies, local authorities, governments, and NGOs involved in the development and maintenance of PVWPS in rural areas.

A Business Management Model in the Circular Economy: Technological Solutions for Plastic Recycling

Objectives: this article develops a model for managing business processes in a circular economy using technologies for plastic recycling. Theoretical Framework: The theoretical idea and basis of the article consists in the development of project management methodology, process approach in the closed-loop economy, development of methods and economic tools aimed at effective resource management taking into account waste reduction and increased reuse of plastic fractions in Municipal Solid Waste (MSW). The application of digital technologies and solutions in the context of business process management in the field of plastics recycling will be substantiated, which will allow to identify new opportunities and reserves for optimising business processes in this field, increasing the efficiency of resource use, improving the environment and reducing costs. Method: the work uses a project approach, a process approach, digital modeling methods, and the “polluter pays” method. To implement the process approach, it is proposed to use the concept of Business Process Management (BPM). Competent business process management allows the company to react quickly to changing market conditions and customer orientation. Digital modelling in this paper means the representation of actions in the form of business processes in the organisation of solid waste management, the 'polluter pays' method means the economic assessment and accounting of environmental damage in waste management in the costs of business processes. Results and Discussion: The results of the study can be used to introduce the process approach to plastics recycling in individual regions and countries for the development of a green economy. According to the estimates of the authors, the optimisation and cost reduction of business processes, taking into account the environmental factor and the increase of the revenue part of the project from the reuse and inclusion in the economic turnover of plastic waste recycling products on the scale of the considered city (population of 1800 thousand people, area of 2856 ha, 18.14 tonnes of plastic waste accumulated per day) will reduce the costs of business process management by more than 200 thousand euros. Research Implications: the results of the study can be used to justify projects for the processing and recycling of solid municipal waste, including plastic waste, to introduce environmentally friendly production, to reduce the negative impact on the environment, to develop a process approach to the organisation of all activities for the collection of plastic waste in the city, district. In addition, the application of the proposed approach allows to obtain economic benefits for companies through the sale of secondary resources for the processing of plastic waste, as well as to reduce the negative impact on the environment. Originality/ Value: The originality of the research and its value lies in a new scientific formulation of the problem of reducing environmental pollution from plastic waste through the use of business processes in the field of plastic recycling and digital solutions, as well as the possibility of practical application of the results obtained in the field of green economy.

One can define sustainable consumption as the act of procuring services or products that satisfy the requirements of individuals while simultaneously reducing the impact on the environment, which has become increasingly important in addressing global challenges like climate change and resource depletion. The present study explores the factors influencing sustainable consumption, focusing on social, economic, psychological, policy, and business strategy aspects. By reviewing research surveys, results of regression analysis, and case studies, this paper reveals that social norms, income levels, environmental awareness, government policies, and green marketing strategies significantly impact consumers sustainable consumption behaviors. The findings of the study emphasize that sustainable consumption can only be effectively promoted if multifaceted influences are considered in an integrated manner and several sustainable strategies involving all stakeholders are put in place. Ultimately, this investigation renders useful awareness for the benefit of consumers, companies, and policymakers who are interested in enhancing their practices regarding sustainability.

Exploring the Relationship between Hygiene Factors and Job Satisfaction in Workplace

The purpose of this research is to investigate the relationship that exists between hygiene factors and job satisfaction (JS) among the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) personnel in the workplace. The focus shall be directed toward the diligent personnel on board at Lumut Naval Base. The present study adopts a quantitative analysis methodology, employing a straightforward descriptive approach and correlation analysis through SPSS 23, wherein a sample of 220 employees was randomly selected for analysis. The empirical evidence suggests that there exist notable associations between job satisfaction (JS) and various factors, namely company policy, salary and benefits, and interpersonal relationships. The variables of job security and working conditions do not exhibit a statistically significant correlation with job satisfaction. The findings of this study suggest that there exists a noteworthy correlation between variables towards Job Satisfaction (JS). Therefore, there is no significant correlation between Job Security and Working Conditions in JS. The study's impact extends beyond the organization, encompassing the broader field, as it adds to the body of literature about the research elements. The utilization of models and theoretical frameworks in prospective investigations presents a distinct point for comprehending and interpreting phenomena that represents a noteworthy innovation within the context study.

The conclusion of this research shows that E-Kasir is very useful for business people.

The aim of this research is to analyze the influence of competence and compensation on organizational commitment and its implications for job satisfaction. It is hoped that this research will provide theoretical benefits for writers and readers as well as practical benefits for companies or organizations in managing human resources. This research is quantitative research, which was carried out at the Ogh Doni Hotel Jogjakarta by using 30 employees as the population and the research sample was determined using a purposive sampling technique. The results of this research show that in the first regression model the competency and compensation variables partially and simultaneously have a positive and significant effect on organizational commitment. Meanwhile, in the second model, it is known that competence, compensation and organizational commitment have a partial and simultaneous effect on employee job satisfaction.

That the downstream nickel business between Indonesia and China aims to obtain maximum profits for the welfare of the Indonesian people, which is based on legal regulations issued by the Indonesian government. As Chinese companies are building purification and processing plants or nickel smelters in Indonesia with a large investment value, the Indonesian government obtains a substantial advantage from the export through the export of domestically processed nickel. Also, Indonesian and Chinese companies both benefit from having a nickel smelter or refining and processing factory in Indonesia. These advantages encompass Chinese investment in Indonesia, job creation in Indonesia, and increased export outcomes. However, this development has raised concerns in the European Union, primarily because Indonesia recently banned the export of nickel ore. Instead, Indonesia has encouraged the domestic processing of nickel ore to add value to nickel products. Indonesia as one of the world’s largest nickel producers has regulations in terms of nickel exports. This is stated in the Regulation of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Number 11 of 2019 concerning the Second Amendment to the Regulation of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Number 25 of 2018 concerning the Business of Mineral and Coal Mining. In this regulation, Indonesia imposes a ban on the export of nickel ore. Related to this ban, the European Union also reacted by filing a lawsuit filed at the World Trade Organization (WTO). Based on the Constitution, the welfare of the Indonesian people is the main goal through the management of natural resources, so outside parties or other countries cannot intervene.

Watt’s Next? Leveraging Process Flexibility for Power Cost Optimization

The transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources poses major challenges for balancing increasingly weather-dependent power supply and demand. Although demand-side energy flexibility, offered particularly by industrial companies, is seen as a promising and necessary approach to address these challenges and realize benefits for companies, its implementation is not yet common practice. Often facing highly complex process landscapes and operational systems, process mining provides significant potential to increase transparency of actual process flows and to discover or reflect existing dependencies and interrelationships of activities, instances or resources. It facilitates the implementation of energy flexibility measures and enables the realization of monetary benefits associated with flexible process operation. This paper contributes to the successful integration of energy flexibility into process operations by presenting a design science research artifact called PM4Flex. This is a prescriptive process monitoring approach that uses linear programming to generate recommendations for pending process flows optimized under fluctuating power prices by utilizing established energy flexibility measures. Thereby, event logs and corresponding company- as well as process-specific constraints are considered. PM4Flex is demonstrated and evaluated based on its implementation as a software prototype, its application to exemplary data from two real-world processes exhibiting power cost savings of up to 75% compared to the original execution, and based on semi-structured expert interviews. PM4Flex provides new design knowledge at the interface of prescriptive process monitoring and the energy domain providing decision support to optimize industrial energy procurement costs.

Matheuristic algorithm for dock planning problems considering tandem and parallel methods in the shipbuilding industry

Docks are crucial production resources that significantly impact shipyard productivity. This study addresses a real-world dock planning problem (DPP) focused on ship production scheduling within docks. Unlike traditional scheduling issues, the DPP involves managing multiple concurrent tasks due to the use of tandem and parallel methods common in the shipbuilding industry. This distinctive feature introduces unique considerations and opportunities for optimizing production processes within shipyards. Despite its importance, research on DPPs is limited, with dock planning typically depending on the expertise of planners. This study formally defines a DPP as a mixed-integer programming (MIP) model, incorporating tandem and parallel methods. It also introduces MathLNS, a matheuristic algorithm that combines MIP-based large neighborhood search with heuristic methods, as an efficient solution approach to this problem. The effectiveness of the proposed model and algorithm is evaluated using real-world data from one of the largest shipbuilders globally. The results demonstrate significant improvements over the planner-driven approach. Notably, the developed algorithm has been integrated into the company’s production planning system, resulting in improved dock planning efficiency. Furthermore, the proposed approach offers potential benefits for other shipbuilding companies, enhancing operational efficiency in dock planning.

Human resources from time to time have always been interesting for researchers because they provide several benefits for companies, employees, and society. This indicates that the existence of human resources in a company has an important role in achieving goals. This research aims to analyze effect of burnout on performance of marketing employees. This research uses a causal research type with a quantitative approach. The population in the study were employees in the marketing field. Samples were taken randomly to answer the hypothesis of 30 respondents. The method of data analysis in this study used simple linear regression analysis. Based on the research results show that burnout has a positive and significant effect on performance of marketing employees.

When is blockchain worth it? Value and risk drivers of corporate blockchain announcements

In the era of emerging technologies, many firms explore the role of blockchain technology and its impact on corporate market value. Past research has shown that companies benefit from executing blockchain projects, but little is known about specific value and risk drivers. Hence, we provide evidence for several conditions under which blockchain provides additional firm market value. Moreover, we test whether blockchain announcements lead to changes in the systematic risk of firms. Theoretically founded on the resource-based view, we utilize the event study methodology, supplemented by a multivariate regression and a firm’s beta analysis. We find that stock markets react positively to corporate blockchain news if the announcement is related to a blockchain consortium or partnership, is declared by a tech company, or if the announcement is a follow-up announcement to initial blockchain news. Moreover, our findings show that blockchain announcements do not lead to significant changes in a firm’s systematic risk.

This research aims to determine the effect of the physical work environment on employee job satisfaction at the Rahayu Batujajar mas shop. The research instruments used have passed validity and reliability tests. Data collection was carried out through interviews and questionnaires with employee respondents. Participation in this research involved 80 respondents using data collection techniques field research with simple random sampling. Data analysis uses a quantitative descriptive approach, validity testing, reliability testing and simple linear regression with the help of software statistik diprogram of social science (SPSS) version 27. These two hypotheses were strengthened by a one-party test of acceptance and rejection between the physical work environment on employee job satisfaction. These results indicate that the physical work environment has a positive effect on employee job satisfaction. The findings of this research can provide benefits for companies and management as consideration in making decisions regarding the physical work environment and job satisfaction.

Relationship between civil construction companies and suppliers: comparative analysis with companies in other sectors

Strategic supplier management establishes criteria for the selection, evaluation, and development of suppliers, in addition to the administration of contracts and supplies. This type of management aims to organize all processes involving suppliers, defining criteria to support decision-making in selecting the best partners, considering those who meet pre-established requirements. Furthermore, efficient management provides closer proximity to suppliers, facilitating relationships, fostering collaborative innovation, improving product costs, and increasing the company's competitiveness. The objective of this work is to analyze the relationship of suppliers in the construction industry and compare it with companies from other sectors. To achieve this objective, an applied, quantitative, and exploratory research was developed through field research. Questionnaires were applied to employees of construction companies and companies from other sectors, such as service providers and large industrial sectors, addressing issues related to organizational characteristics and specific axes that determine the relationship, such as trust, long-term relationship, and information sharing between client and supplier. The collected data were subjected to descriptive and exploratory analyses to observe the divergent and similar characteristics between the two groups. The results indicate that construction companies have gaps in the axes of trust, information sharing, and especially in the sphere of long-term relationships compared to companies in other sectors. This indicates the need for improvements in supplier management practices in the construction industry to achieve a competitive performance more aligned with other industrial sectors. The implementation of more robust strategies and the adoption of better practices in supplier management can help overcome these gaps, resulting in a more efficient and collaborative business environment, with mutual benefits for construction companies and their suppliers.
