Performance Evaluation of Motorized Millet Thresher

Millets are grown in semi-arid regions of the world which require less water to grow, particularly these crops were grown in Asia and. African continents of the world. Telangana has a semi-arid weather condition which is a suitable environment for the cultivation of millets. Commonly cultivated millets in Telangana are Sorghum, Pearl millet, Finger millet (major millets) Foxtail, little, Kodo, Proso and Barnyard millet (minor millets). A study was conducted to evaluate the performance of CIAE developed motorized thresher. The thresher was evaluated for three millets, Foxtail, Barnyard and Finger millets. The evaluation was conducted by AICRP on Farm Implements and Machinery, PJTAU, Rajendranagar at Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS), Palem, Nagarkurnool District. Key performance indicators of thresher viz., feed rate, input capacity, output capacity, blower loss, un threshed grain, threshing efficiency and cleaning efficiency were measured. Results indicate that threshing efficiency for Foxtail millet, Finger millet and Barnyard millet are 97.94%, 92.17% and 97.52% respectively. The cleaning efficiency of Foxtail millet, Finger millet and Barnyard millet were 99%, 92.47% and 94.00% respectively.

Comparative Genomics and Pathogenicity Analysis of Three Fungal Isolates Causing Barnyard Grass Blast.

Barnyard grass is one of the most serious rice weeds, often growing near paddy fields and therefore potentially serving as a bridging host for the rice blast fungus. In this study, we isolated three fungal strains from diseased barnyard grass leaves in a rice field. Using a pathogenicity assay, we confirmed that they were capable of causing blast symptoms on barnyard grass and rice leaves to various extents. Based on morphology characterization and genome sequence analyses, we confirmed that these three strains were Epicoccum sorghinum (SCAU-1), Pyricularia grisea (SCAU-2), and Exserohilum rostratum (SCAU-6). The established Avirulence (Avr) genes Avr-Pia, Avr-Pita2, and ACE1 were detected by PCR amplification in SCAU-2, but not in SCAU-1 or SCAU-6. Furthermore, the whole-genome sequence analysis helped to reveal the genetic variations and potential virulence factors relating to the host specificity of these three fungal pathogens. Based on the evolutionary analysis of single-copy orthologous proteins, we found that the genes encoding glycoside hydrolases, carbohydrate esterases, oxidoreductase, and multidrug transporters in SCAU-1 and SCAU-6 were expanded, while expansion in SCAU-2 was mainly related to carbohydrate esterases. In summary, our study provides clues to understand the pathogenic mechanisms of fungal isolates from barnyard grass with the potential to cause rice blast.

A Seed Endophytic Bacterium Cronobacter dublinensis BC-14 Enhances the Growth and Drought Tolerance of Echinochloa crus-galli.

Successful seed germination and plant seedling growth often require association with endophytic bacteria. Barnyard grass (Echinochloa crus-galli (L.) P. Beauv.) is a main weed during rice cultivation and has frequently been found in drought-prone fields such as cornfields in recent years. To determine whether endophytic bacteria enhance the survival chances of barnyard grass in dryland conditions, endophytic bacteria were collected from barnyard grass seeds. An endophytic bacterial strain, BC-14, was selected and confirmed as Cronobacter dublinensis based on its morphology, physiology, biochemistry, and genomic information. Moreover, C. dublinensis BC-14 secreted IAA in the Luria-Bertani broth up to 28.44 mg/L after 5 days; it could colonize the roots of barnyard grass. After the inoculation with seeds or the well-mixed planting soil, the bacterium can significantly increase the root length and plant height of barnyard grass under drought conditions. When comparing with the control group on the 28th day, it can be seen that the bacterium can significantly increase the contents of chlorophyll b (up to 7.58 times) and proline (37.21%); improve the activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase, and peroxidase (36.90%, 51.51%, and 12.09%, respectively); and reduce the content of malondialdehyde around 25.92%, which are correlated to the drought tolerance. The bacterial genomic annotation revealed that it contains growth-promoting and drought-resistant functional genes. In a word, C. dublinensis BC-14 can help barnyard grass suppress drought stress, promote plant growth, and enhance biomass accumulation, which is helpful to interpret the mechanism of weed adaptability in dry environments.

Harnessing the past: Vibration analysis of organic additives in ancient plasters for sustainable building solutions

This study investigates plant-based organic additives and grains used in ancient earthen plasters from the caves of Karla, Bhaja, Pitalkhora, Ellora, and Aurangabad in Maharashtra, India, highlighting their relevance for sustainable modern construction. Stereo microscopy, FTIR spectrophotometry, and phytochemical analysis identified rice husk, millet, wheat, Chenopodium album, Paspalum, barnyard millet, foxtail millet, and Fumaria seeds as key organic components. Starch grain analysis confirmed the presence of wheat, millet, and mung bean starches, while polarized light microscopy revealed distinctive birefringence patterns, such as the Maltese cross. FTIR analysis of solvent extractions identified natural compounds, including starches, gums, proteins, oils, waxes, and tree resins. These organic additives, especially rice husk, prevalent in Karla, Bhaja, and Pitalkhora samples, and the balanced composition of hemp fibers, seeds, and gums in Ellora samples, contributed significantly to the strength and durability of the plasters. The use of beeswax and tree resins as natural binders further underscores the ingenuity of these ancient techniques. This research not only highlights the botanical diversity in ancient construction but also draws critical connections to modern sustainable practices. The carbon-negative potential of these materials, combined with their renewability and resilience, aligns closely with contemporary green building strategies, offering inspiration for eco-friendly construction rooted in traditional Indian architecture.

Response of transient soil waterlogging on shoot growth pattern and root architecture of finger millet and barnyard millet seedlings

Millets, as key crops in semi-arid and arid tropical regions, are gaining recognition for their nutritional benefits and resilience to challenging conditions. Finger millet and barnyard millet, in particular, stand out for their nutrient profiles and adaptability. However, research on their response to waterlogging, a major abiotic stress, remains limited. This study aimed to examine the immediate response of finger millet and barnyard millet seedlings to transient waterlogging conditions, focusing on their growth patterns and changes in root architecture to understand their morpho-physiological adaptive strategy. Seedlings were subjected to varying durations of waterlogging: control, 48, 74, and 120 hours to assess parameters such as shoot and root characteristics, leaf growth, and tolerance indices. Results showed a decrease in root length and an increase in shoot length with prolonged waterlogging. Root and shoot biomass, along with seedling dry weight, rose as waterlogging durations increased. Significant increases were observed in root surface area, volume, and the number of root tips and forks. Leaf area initially expanded but declined after 72 hours of waterlogging, accompanied by changes in specific leaf area and chlorophyll concentration. Tolerance indices, such as root-to-shoot ratio, decreased under waterlogging conditions, with finger millet exhibiting higher tolerance than barnyard millet. These findings provide insights into the adaptive strategies of millets under waterlogging, which is valuable for crop management and breeding for enhanced stress tolerance.

Bioassay‐Guided Extraction and Isolation of Natural Herbicides from Dried Zanthoxylum limonella Alston Fruits

AbstractWeeds are problematic plant species around the world. Various strategies exist for controlling weeds, but chemical treatment remains the preferred method, particularly when using natural substances. In this research, a crude aqueous‐methanol extract from dried Zanthoxylum limonella fruits was acid‐base partitioned into four fractions: neutral extract (NE), acid extract (AE), basic extract (BE), and aqueous extract (AQ). These fractions were further separated into seventeen subfractions: NEF1 to NEF7, AEF1 to AEF5, and BEF1 to BEF5, which were then tested for herbicidal activity against the growth of Chinese amaranth (Amaranthus tricolor) and barnyard grass (Echinochloa crus‐galli). Active subfractions were isolated via column chromatography and identified using spectroscopic methods, yielding seven active compounds: xanthoxyline (1), tambulin (2), atanine (3), prudomestin (4), skimmianine (5), p‐methoxybenzoic acid (6), and methyl caffeate (7). Compounds 2–7 had not been previously reported in Z. limonella. Xanthoxyline (1) was identified as the most potent botanical herbicide, fully inhibiting seed germination of Chinese amaranth and barnyard grass. This compound also decreased seed imbibition and α‐amylase activity in both species. Molecular docking studies on the α‐amylase enzyme (PDB ID: 1BG9) revealed that the aromatic, hydroxy, and carbonyl groups of xanthoxyline (1) interact with the enzyme's active sites.

Recombinant Breeding in Barnyard Millet (Echinochloa frumentacea. L): Pioneering High-yield Varieties for Sustainable Agriculture

The development of new crop varieties, including barnyard millet, typically spans 6 to 9 years, a process that began with breeding efforts initiated in 2008. The breeding work involved initial crossings, followed by selection starting from the F2 generation, which achieved stabilization in the F5 generation with the identification of the best plants. The resulting high-yielding, medium-maturing barnyard millet variety, DHBM-93-3, was developed at the Agricultural Research Station in Hanumanamatti, under the University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad. This variety matures in 85 to 90 days, features an erect growth habit with a height ranging from 132 to 147.5 cm, and produces bold, oval-shaped grains of gray color. DHBM-93-3 has demonstrated an impressive grain yield of 23.20 q/ha and a fodder yield of 6.33 t/ha, along with remarkable tolerance to shoot fly infestation (0.0%). Notably, this variety outperformed national checks VL-172 and VL-207, with yield increases of 27.17% and 12.59%, respectively. In preliminary and station trials conducted between 2010 and 2013, DHBM-93-3 achieved an average seed yield of 39.24 q/ha, significantly exceeding RAU-11 and VL-207 by 42.17% and 16.82%. Over a three-year evaluation period, it consistently yielded 23.20 q/ha, surpassing VL-172 and VL-207 by 27.15% and 12.59%, respectively. The varieties exceptional adaptability was highlighted by significant yield increases across various states, particularly in Andhra Pradesh, where it exceeded VL-172 by 108.5%. DHBM-93-3 also exhibited superior disease resistance, with a mean grain smut incidence of 2.46%, compared to 10.06% for VL-172 and 15.93% for VL-207, as well as complete resistance to head smut. Furthermore, it showed outstanding resilience against shoot fly infestation, maintaining a consistent infestation rate of 0.0%. Nutritionally, DHBM-93-3 excelled in zinc (36.8 mg/kg), iron (12.5 mg/kg), and calcium (14 mg/kg) content, although its protein content was slightly lower than that of VL-172. DHBM-93-3 represents a highly productive and resilient variety, capable of enhancing food security and addressing micronutrient deficiencies, thus positioning it as an excellent choice for cultivation across diverse agro-climatic regions of India.

Impact of debranning on the nutritional, cooking, microstructural characteristics of five Indian small millets

BackgroundMillets are underutilized grains rich in nutrients. This study aimed to investigate the impact of debranning on the nutritional, cooking, and microstructural properties of five Indian millets namely foxtail, little, kodo, barnyard, and proso millet.MethodsThe proximate composition, mineral content, cooking properties (cooking time, solid loss, water uptake, alkali score), Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR) spectra, X ray Diffraction (XRD) and microstructural characteristics (Scanning Electron Microscopy) of dehusked and debranned millet samples were examined and analysed.ResultsDebranning resulted in decrease in protein (except for little and barnyard millets), dietary fibre, fat, mineral and phytate content in all the millets while enhanced available carbohydrates and amylose content. The cooking times for dehusked millets were significantly higher while, the solid loss and water uptake during cooking of debranned millets were higher. On debranning, Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR) spectra showed changes in the pattern with increase in the intensity of amide II (1363 to 1367 cm−1) and amide III (1215 to 1231 cm−1) bands in the debranned foxtail, little, and kodo millets. The X-ray diffractogram (XRD) showed decrease in relative crystallinity on debranning. Scanning Electron Microscopic (SEM) examination revealed that debranning resulted in the loss of seed coat, aleurone layer and partial loss of germ in the millets.ConclusionDehusked millets are nutritious and should be promoted in Indian diets to improve diet quality, debranned millets are nutritionally inferior, can increase the glycemic load of Indian diets.

Virulence perspective genomic research unlocks the secrets of Rhizoctonia solani associated with banded sheath blight in Barnyard Millet (Echinochloa frumentacea).

Banded sheath blight (Bsb) disease, caused by Rhizoctonia solani, is an emerging problem in barnyard millet cultivation. One of the significant goals of pathogenomic research is to identify genes responsible for pathogenicity in the fungus. A virulence profiling-based approach was employed and six R. solani isolates were collected from various ecological zones of India. The morphological parameters and virulence of all of the six R. solani isolates were investigated. The most virulent strain was designated as RAP2 and its genome has been sequenced, assembled, and annotated. The RAP2 genome is 43.63 megabases in size and comprises 10.95% repetitive DNA, within which 46% are retroelements, 8% are DNA transposons, and 46% are unidentified DNA. The Gene Ontology (GO) annotation of RAP2 proteins revealed that "phosphorylation", "membrane", and "ATP binding" have the highest gene enrichment in the "biological process", "cellular component" and "molecular function" domains, respectively. The genome comprises a majority of secretory proteins in the pectin lyase fold/virulence factor superfamily, which break down plant cell wall polymers to extract saccharides. The RAP2 genome is comparable to R. solani, which infects maize and rice, but it diverges further from soybean in terms of nucleotide-level genetic similarity. Orthologous clustering of RAP2 protein sequences with R. solani infecting maize, rice, and soybean yields 5606 proteins shared across all genomes. GO analysis of 25 proteins specific to the RAP2 genome found enrichment in the ethylene response, which can cause spore germination and infection in host plants. Interestingly, a 28-bp deletion in the RAP2 strain's cutinase domain was discovered in the cutinase protein, which might be important in the infection process, perhaps rendering the enzyme inactive or allowing the pathogen to infect barnyard millet while avoiding host defense. This study sheds light on the genetic makeup of R. solani, allowing researchers to discover critical genes related with pathogenicity as well as potential targets for fungicide development.

Efficacy mixture of fomesafen and clomazone for weed control in potato

In 2022–2023 in Leningrad region at potato Liga variety trials were conducted to evaluate mixture of herbicides Nexus (240 g/l of fomesafen) and Traser (480 g/l of clomazone) in the following schedules: 1.0 l/ha + 0.25 l/ha; 1.0 l/ha + 0.5 l/ha; 1.25 l/ha + 0.25 l/ha and 1.25 l/ha + 0.5 l/ha. The use of herbicides in their pure form acted as standard. The experiments were carried out in accordance with the methods of herbicide registration trials (2013; 2020). The use of tank-mix of herbicides Nexus + Traser made it possible to most fully control of mixed type of weediness, typical for the North-Western region. When applying a tank-mix herbicides in the regulations of 1.0…1.25 l/ha + 0.5 l/ha, the decrease in the weight of annual dicotyledonous weeds was at a level exceeding 75.0 %; the decrease in the weight of annual cereal weeds reached 88.3 %. The use of the herbicide Nexus in its pure form was most noticeably inferior to the application of tank-mix of herbicides Nexus + Traser (1.0…1.25 l/ha + 0.5 l/ha) in terms of effect on plants of barnyard grass (Echinochloa crusgalli (L.) Beauv.)) and baconweed (Chenopodium album L.). The main advantage of a tank-mix of herbicides over the herbicide Traser in its pure form was realized in relation to the effect on pale persicaria (Polygonum lapathifolium L.). Reduced competition from weeds contributed to the preservation of potato yields of Liga variety cultivated in the North-Western region. Under normal moisture conditions, the potato yield after using a tank-mix of herbicides Nexus and Traser (31.0…35.8 t/ha) significantly exceeded the crop yield after using these herbicides in their pure form (17.5…23.3 t/ha).

Comparative study of physico-chemical composition, functional, morphological and pasting properties of major and minor millet flours as a gluten free alternative to wheat flour

The present study compares the major (finger, sorghum, pearl) and minor millet flours (barnyard, foxtail, kodo, little, proso) with wheat flour for their nutritional (proximate, mineral and polyphenolic content), antinutritional, functional, morphological, and pasting properties. The millet flours protein content varied from 13.71 to 6.39 g/100 g, followed by ash content varied from 2 to 1.02 %, lipid varied from 1.62 to 5.68 %, carbohydrate 67.78–73.70 %, crude fibre 0.92–4.77 g/100 g and moisture 9.45–12.69 % as compared to the wheat flour having 12.07 g/100 g, 1.22 %, 1.67 %, 71.89 %, 2.26 g/100 g and 10.89%, respectively was determined using official protocols of AOAC (Association of official analytical chemists). Calcium was found to be significantly higher in finger millet flour 87.02mg/100 g. Atomic spectrometer, rapid-visco analyser (RVA), fourier transform infra- red spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) was used to measure minerals, pasting, functional, morphological and thermal properties respectively. The raw millet flours showed good pasting properties as in barnyard millet flour with 1216 cp peak viscosity and pearl millet flour having 88.05 °C pasting temperature which is approximately similar to the wheat flour used as control. The highest total phenolic content was found to be in finger millet flour i.e. 1318.12 mgGAE/100 g. The antinutritional factors namely tannin and phytic acid was lowest found to be in foxtail millet flour 8.03mg/100 g and 0.37mol g-1. Functional properties such as water holding capacity was found to be good in finger millet flour (3.12 g g-1) and oil holding capacity was good in kodo millet flour (2.50 g g-1), the foaming capacity was good in barnyard (4.11 %) whereas dispersibility was good in little millet flour (85.02 g/ml) compared to wheat flour. The FTIR revealed the presence of amide group and the presence of starch protein complex. The thermal analysis showed the presence of higher amounts of proteins and lipids in the minor millet flours. Significant differences (p ≤ 0.05) were also determined in most of the values of the millet flours. This present work on comparative study would contribute to reduce risk of over-reliance on staple gluten containing cereals, and to formulate and optimize healthy food products of different preferences from the above-mentioned gluten free nutritive flour in combinations or as alone.

Effect of germination on the physico-functional and nutritional profile of barnyard millet ()(VL-172)

: Barnyard millet is well-known for its abundant nutrients and adaptability, making it a promising candidate for product innovation, especially by exploring new processing methods like germination to boost its nutritional value and effectiveness. It is vital to examine both the physico-functional and nutrient characteristics of barnyard millet in order to fully harness their nutritional advantages in product development. Understanding factors such as grain size and properties like water and oil absorption capacity is crucial for creating inventive, nutritionally enriched foods that can meet a variety of dietary requirements and gain wider market acceptance.: This scientific approach fosters the effects of germination on the physico-functional and nutritional properties of Barnyard millet. : Barnyard millet was collected and soaked for 12 hours and germinated in different time intervals, then dehydrated at 110°C for 4 hours. Physical properties such as kernel size and volume were analysed. Functional properties, including oil and water absorption capacity, water solubility and nutritional analysis were conducted. The study revealed that as the germination time increased, the length-width ratio increased, accompanied by a slight increase in 1000 kernel weight, volume and decrease in bulk density of germinated millet. Furthermore, functional properties such as oil absorption capacity, water absorption capacity and water solubility index increased with germination time, contributing to improved texture. There was increase in protein and fiber, slight decrease in fat content. The mineral content was increased upon germination. The obtained results indicated slight variations in the physical and functional and nutritional characteristics of barnyard millet and its flour upon germination.

Quinclorac-resistant Echinochloa spp. promoted growth and reproduction of Laodelphax striatellus (Hemiptera: Delphacidae) probably by providing more nutrients and stable environment

Rice is an important agricultural crop that faces serious challenges from pathogens, pests, and weeds during growth stages. Meanwhile, these organisms would interact with each other to increase the level of destruction. The previous studies showed that barnyard grass (Echinochloa spp) could be used as a temporary host to increase infestation of small brown planthopper (SBPH, Laodelphax striatellus), which is one of the main polyphagous pests. Herbicides are widely used to control weeds that induce resistance development. However, little is known about the effects of increased weed resistance on insect species. In this study, we investigated the effect of quinclorac-resistant and sensitive biotypes of barnyard grass (Echinochloa crus-galli var. zelayensis; Echinochloa crus-pavonis Schult) and rice plants (Wuyujing 3) on the ecological fitness of SBPH and examined physiological indicators of plants and SBPH to explore the mechanism. Our results showed that the growth and reproduction of SBPH promoted significantly reared on quinclorac-resistant barnyard grass. From the perspectives of oxidative stress response, the activities of peroxidase (POD) increased and the activities of catalase (CAT), mixed-functional oxidase (MFO), and carboxylesterase (CarE) decreased in SBPH reared on resistant barnyard grass. Combined with the increased amino acid contents (threonine, serine, methionine, and alanine) of resistant barnyard grass E. crus-pavonis, we speculate that quinclorac-resistant barnyard grass probably provides SBPH with a more suitable environment, thus increasing the risk of SBPH.

Crystal Structures of Arabidopsis thaliana Acetohydroxyacid Synthase in Complex with the Herbicide Triasulfuron and Two Analogues with Herbicidal Activity in Field Trials.

Triasulfuron is a commercial herbicide of the sulfonylurea family. This compound targets acetohydroxyacid synthase (AHAS, E.C. 2.2.1.6), the first enzyme in the branched chain amino acid biosynthesis pathway. Here, we have determined crystal structures of Arabidopsis thaliana AHAS (AtAHAS) in complex with triasulfuron and two newly designed herbicidal compounds, identified as FMO and CMO, showing that their binding modes are subtly different. Kinetic studies showed all three compounds exhibit varying Ki values, 0.192 ± 0.013 μM for triasulfuron, 0.086 ± 0.013 μM for FMO, and 1.448 ± 0.058 μM for CMO, but all are strong time-dependent accumulative inhibitors of AtAHAS. Apart from triasulfuron being a powerful herbicide with application rates of 10-15 g/ha in wheat fields, CMO and FMO are also herbicidal at 7.5-30 g/ha for barnyard grass. This study emphasizes that accumulative inhibition is an important factor that contributes to herbicidal activity.

Evaluation of barnyard millet intercropping systems in semi-arid zone of Hisar

A field experiment was conducted at CCSHAU, Hisar during Kharif seasons of 2021–22 and 2022–23 in three times replicated randomized block design. The experiment was comprised of thirteen barnyard millet-based inter- cropping systems in replacement series with greengram and sesame as intercrop with row ratio of 5:1, 4:2, 3:3, 2:4, 1:5 in addition to their sole crops. Results revealed that the barnyard millet intercropped with greengram was found superior over sole barnyard millet in terms of different intercropping indices. But, barnyard millet intercrop with sesame was found uneconomical. The barnyard millet + greengram (1:5) recorded the highest land equivalent ratio (LER; 1.25), barnyard millet equivalent yield (BMEY; 2977 kg/ha), land use efficiency (LUE; 119.4%), area time equivalent ratio (ATER; 1.14), relative crowding coefficient (RCC; 1.79), monitory advantage index (MAI; ` 10,756/ha), system productivity index (SPI; 2903), intercropping advantage index (IAI; 34.6), net return (` 23,111/ha), benefit:cost (1.42) and per day return (` 300.3) which was closely followed by barnyard millet + greengram (4:2). Hence, barnyard millet + greengram (1:5) intercropping system is a suitable option for achieving higher monetary returns and resource use efficiency as compared to sole barnyard millet under semiarid region of India.

AbstractThis study investigates the expanding domain of functional beverages crafted from plant‐based milk alternatives. In this study, a total of eight different fermented drinks fortified with beneficial Chlorella sp. and probiotics including Lactobacillus rhamnosus (NCIM 5775) and Saccharomyces cerevisiae (Brewer's yeast) drinks were developed using barnyard millet as the base ingredient due to its rich protein and high‐fibre content in comparison with the other millets in the market. Results revealed that the protein content increases by 2% upon the addition of Chlorella sp., among bacterial samples, with Lactobacillus rhamnosus fermented Unflavoured drink (LRFFD) > Lactobacillus rhamnosus fermented flavoured drink > Lactobacillus rhamnosus fermented with Chlorella sp. > LRFM, and among yeast samples, with Saccharomyces cerevisiae fermented Unflavoured drink (SCFUFD) > Saccharomyces cerevisiae fermented with Chlorella sp. > Saccharomyces cerevisiae fermented flavoured drink (SCFFD) > SCFRM, indicating higher protein content than in typical fermented drink. Fat content was notably low across all samples. Ash and fibre content ranged from 0.23 to 0.27 g and 0.22 to 0.35 g, respectively, for both bacterial and yeast fermented drink. Millet is generally considered a carbohydrate‐rich grain. When fermented, some of the carbohydrates may be broken down by the fermentation process. So, the carbohydrate content was low in fermented millet drink when compared to the nonfermented drink. Energy values varied, with LRFFD and SCFFD containing the highest energy due to incorporation of Chlorella sp. and chocolate flavour. Both LAB and yeast‐fermented drinks demonstrated effective antioxidant activity, with higher total phenolic content, except for non‐Chlorella sp. beverages. GC‐MS analysis identified constituents like hexadecenoic acid and hydroxy methyl furfural (HMF) with anticarcinogenic and anti‐inflammatory properties. Additionally, these samples exhibited elevated antimicrobial activity against test strains. Sensory analysis indicated a preference of SCFFD and LRFFD sample for its good taste as it contains chocolate flavour and the overall acceptability of bacterial fermented beverage was higher compared to the yeast fermented drinks. Therefore, a fermented millet beverage was successfully obtained by the coculture of LAB and Saccharomyces cerevisiae incorporated with Chlorella sp. could increase the product's functional properties.
