A Miniaturized inductive – Loaded narrow strip wide band-notched ultra-wideband monopole antenna with dual-mode resonator

A new miniaturized ultra-wideband (UWB) monopole antenna with a broad band, sharp roll-off frequency notch function is presented. A narrow, stepped impedance strip is the radiating element of the antenna similar to conventional narrowband antennas, in order to retain the conventional antenna characteristics such as polarization purity, omnidirectional radiation pattern, etc. The strip is split to create multiple closed resonances and inductors are loaded in series to achieve wide bandwidth. The split portions are inserted one over the other to make the antenna very compact. A new compact dual mode wide band parasitic resonator placed along the feed line, rejects the frequency band ranging from 5.15 to 5.825 GHz which has been allocated for IEEE 802.11a and High Performance Radio Local Area Network (HIPERLAN). The designed antenna was fabricated and the results were measured in an anechoic chamber. The measured results show the ultra-wideband resonance with reflection coefficient values below −10 dB over 3–10.5 GHz with a sharp roll off notch band.

Dual high-selectivity band-notched UWB monopole antenna using simple dual-mode resonator and high-impedance lines

A new planar microstrip-fed monopole ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna with dual notched bands has been presented. By employing a simple dual-mode resonator with two symmetrical outer high-impedance lines beside the microstrip feed line of the proposed UWB antenna, two controllable rejection bands with high-frequency selectivity are created. The parametric studies of the proposed structure are explored for the dual band-notched operating mechanism. Finally, the experimental results, including return losses, radiation patterns, and peak gains are shown, declaring that the proposed antenna has good impedance matching performance and radiation pattern properties.

A dual band-notched ultra-wideband monopole antenna with spiral-slots and folded SIR-DGS as notch band structures

In this paper, an ultra-wideband (UWB) planar monopole antenna with impedance bandwidth from 2.83 to 11.56 GHz and dual band-notched characteristics is presented. The antenna consists of a small rectangular ground plane, a bat-shaped radiating patch, anda 50-Ω microstrip line. The notched bands are realized by introducing two different types of structures. The half-wavelength spiral-slots are etched on the radiating patch to obtain a notched band in 5.15 5.925 GHz for WLAN, HIPERLAN, and DSRC systems. Based on the single band-notched UWB antenna, the second notched band is realized by etching a folded stepped impedance resonator as defected ground structure on the ground plane for WiMAX and C-band communication systems. The notched frequencies can be adjusted by altering the length of resonant cells. Surface current distributions and equivalent circuit are used to illustrate the notched mechanism. The performance of this antenna both by simulation and by experiment indicates that the proposed antenna is suitable and a good candidate for UWB applications.

Triple band-notched UWB monopole antenna with two resonator structures

We propose a novel configuration of a triple band-notched ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna. The designed structure is based on an elliptical monopole antenna combined with a complementary split ring resonator (CSRR) structure and a spiral resonator. The spiral resonator can achieve the dual-band notched performance at WiMAX band and ITU 8 GHz by adjusting the length and width of a spiral line. Besides, the CSRR can obtain the notched band at WLAN 5 GHz by changing the radius of a ring slot. The designed antenna shows that a VSWR of less than 2 was satisfied with a resonant frequency in the range of 1.34–11.4 GHz with a 78.96%, except for triple notched bands. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Square Monopole Antenna for UWB Applications With Novel Rod-Shaped Parasitic Structures and Novel V-Shaped Slots in the Ground Plane

A novel band-notched ultrawideband monopole antenna is presented. The proposed antenna consists of a stepped square radiating patch, two rod-shaped parasitic structures for generating band-notched function instead of changing the patch or feeding shapes, and a notched ground plane with two novel V-shaped slots that provide a wide usable bandwidth of more than 200% (3-22.5 GHz). With two rod-shaped parasitic structures, frequency band-stop performance is generated, and characteristics such as band-notch frequency and bandwidth can be controlled. The designed antenna has a small size of 12 × 18 mm2 while showing the band-rejection performance in the frequency band of 5.1/5.9 GHz. The bandwidth of proposed antenna is wider than the bandwidth of antenna in the references.

Band-notched ultra-wideband monopole antenna using coupled resonator

A 5.2 GHz band-notched ultra-wideband monopole antenna using a proximity coupled resonator is proposed. Compared with conventional methods which transform antenna/ground structures to achieve band-notches, the proposed monopole antenna uses a coupled resonator to obtain a band-notch at 5.2 GHz and does not change the antenna surface current distribution. Two layer substrates are used and the resonator is placed between the feed line and the ground plane. An experimental prototype was fabricated and the measured data display an impedance bandwidth of 2.5–11 GHz with VSWR<2 except for the rejected band of 5.06–5.52 GHz for HIPERLAN application. Also, near-omnidirectional radiation characteristics in the desired frequency band can be obtained.

Band-Notched UWB Printed Monopole Antenna With a Novel Segmented Circular Patch

A band-notched ultrawideband monopole antenna with a novel segmented radiating patch is presented. Band-notched characteristic in the 5.7-GHz WLAN band is obtained by segmenting a circular monopole patch into three parts. The measured results are in good agreement with the simulated ones. Moreover, the surface current and electric field distributions are analyzed and an equivalent parallel RLC circuit concept is applied to explain the band-notched function. On the basis of the equivalent parallel RLC circuit analysis, the notch frequency and bandwidth of the notched band can be widely adjusted by optimizing the key parameters.
