Analysis and Construction of Typical Application Scenarios of Distribution Network Energy Storage Technology

The power market in China is continuing to open, the energy Internet format is gradually being improved, and the energy storage system is going to become a major key technology that will support China’s energy development strategy. All of these developments are taking place against the backdrop of China’s massive investment in the development of new energy. It is one of the effective approaches to handle the problem of grid connection of new energy electrical power generation. This paper investigate and summarizes the typical application scenarios of the system from the three major fields of user side, power grid side, and power generation side, and takes user-side energy storage as an example to build an calculation model, and at the same time verifies it with cases to reflect the practical value. So as to draw the conclusion that the energy storage configuration can effectively regulate the output.

Digital Surveillance Trends and Chinese Influence in Light of the COVID-19 Pandemic

AbstractCountries across the world expanded digital surveillance strategies in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. As the pandemic occurred contemporaneously with a global trend toward greater digital repression, commentators advanced the notion that China would use the health crisis to promote a technology-enabled form of authoritarian governance abroad. This article surveys the evidence for these claims by first examining the literature on the increase of digital surveillance associated with China and then presenting three case studies from developing countries with varying responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. The selected countries – Brazil, South Africa and Vietnam – used surveillance technology as part of their pandemic response and have either been influenced by Chinese approaches or adopted Chinese technology in recent years. Examining these case studies allows us to better understand claims regarding China's role in the general spread of digital surveillance and the interplay between Chinese state objectives and local political environments. Crucially, we illustrate how China's engagement in digital governance abroad is heavily contingent on domestic environments. Against a backdrop of China's growing influence in global digital governance, the effects observed in these case studies of Chinese surveillance models and technology proliferating through pandemic management are diffuse and contextualised by local factors.

Optimization of Power Supply Structure Considering Carbon Emissions and Flexibility

Against the backdrop of China’s promotion of green and low-carbon energy transformation, the large-scale and high-proportion development of new energy has made flexible regulation of power supply planning a key link in the flexible construction of the power system. Considering the balance of flexible supply and demand and minimizing carbon emissions, a mid to long-term collaborative planning model for electricity and flexibility is proposed. According to the planning principles of economic efficiency, clean environmental protection, and safety and reliability, a dynamic planning model was constructed to minimize the total cost of electricity production and carbon emissions in the entire society. Taking into account constraints such as carbon peaking goals and electricity balance, taking a certain region in China as an example, a flexible power supply structure optimization planning is carried out to solve carbon emission levels and system costs, output carbon peaking time, and optimal path plan.

Market Integration, Industrial Structure, and Carbon Emissions: Evidence from China

Against the backdrop of China’s carbon emission reduction targets and the promotion of the construction of a unified domestic market, what kind of carbon emission effect has market integration had in weakening regional barriers and optimizing resource allocation? This paper adopts a two-way fixed effects analysis based on China’s provincial panel data from 2003 to 2019. It uses a mediation model to explore the relationship between market integration and carbon emissions. Furthermore, industrial rationalization and upgrade are the basis for examining whether a competitive or cooperative relationship exists between the carbon emission effects generated and promoting market integration between regions. The study finds a negative relationship between market integration and carbon emissions. In addition, there is significant heterogeneity in the effect of market integration on carbon emissions, and the influence effect is mainly in central China; industrial rationalization can play an enhanced role in the process of the negative impact of market integration on carbon emissions, further enhancing the negative contribution of market integration to carbon emissions. However, market integration can weaken its negative impact on carbon emissions with the industrial upgrade, and there may still be invisible barriers between regions in promoting market integration barriers.

Indo-Asean Relations: Evolution, Challenges, And The Way Ahead

India has been engaging the South East Asian nations actively as a result of its ‘Look East Policy’ started in 1990. India and ASEAN have mutual interests in a wide range of areas which include Commerce, Tourism, Foreign Affairs, Renewable Energy and Telecommunications, Agriculture, and Renewable Energy. It indicates the deepening and strengthening friendship of India and ASEAN. In this context, the present study attempts to throw light upon the evolution of Indo-ASEAN relations from a historical perspective. It dwells upon the developments that took place after the end of the Second World War and subsequent tectonic shifts in the geo-political equations across South East Asia. The study provides an account of the key events that shaped the Indo-ASEAN relations over a period of time. It also discusses the challenges posed to this relationship in the backdrop of China’s emergence in Asia and makes policy suggestions to deal with these challenges.

Representing Single Women: The Transformation of “Leftover Women” on Chinese TV Series

The tendency of late marriage and the increasing single population in Chinese society have galvanized a considerable amount of anxiety in recent years. Part of such anxiety has been manifested through the constant media representations of “shengnü” or “leftover women” since 2010. Referring to women in their late twenties or over thirties while still not getting married, the term “leftover women” indicates a continuous patriarchal policing of single women circulated in mass media. This study, by comparing two popular Chinese television series— We Get Married (2013) and Nothing but Thirty (2020), discusses the altering constructions of unmarried women on Chinese television against the backdrop of China's post-socialist gender politics. The comparison provides a useful vantage point to examine the emerging gendered structures and new cultural imperatives under specific historical contexts.

Informatization of Accounting Systems in Small- and Medium-Sized Enterprises Based on Artificial Intelligence-Enabled Cloud Computing.

Against the backdrop of China's growing market economy, small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have taken advantage of this opportunity to develop rapidly. At present, SMEs have become an important part of the market economy. Accounting system information management system is an advanced form of management, and improving the degree of accounting information is the key to improving the management mode of SMEs. This study applies cloud computing to enterprise accounting management systems. The results show that realizing SME accounting information management can effectively improve economic settlements. With the development of cloud computing, its improvement of accounting management efficiency cannot be ignored. Besides, the risks of accounting informatization, enterprises can make their development by establishing a secure network protection wall and relying on strict relevant laws and regulations.

Geo-political implications of the Belt and Road Initiative with special reference to India

The past decade has seen a disturbing trend of hyper-nationalism and a tectonic shift in global hierarchies from a unipolar to a multipolar world with China challenging the USA's pole position. After a sustained period of high growth, China has now achieved a dominant economic and military global position. To further consolidate its emerging global dominance, it has attempted to resurrect the fabled silk route by initiating Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) along the ancient Silk Route. However, China's attempts to gain dominance through BRI contradict and threaten India's national interests and therefore require analysis.This article presents de novo analysis of BRI's impact on India's maritime and land security and national interests. The choice of this theme is, therefore, of critical importance for global stability in general and for India's interests in particular. It critically examines China's opportunistic use of the present state of global volatility as an opportunity to gain geopolitical heft through BRI. It is abundantly clear from this study that the main intent of China behind the veil of BRI is to fulfill its ethnocentric aspirations by gaining a foothold in strategically important land and maritime geographical locations. The article identifies the challenges posed by BRI and enumerates its implications on India against the backdrop of China's attempts to wrest regional dominance by enticing India's neighbours into the debt trap. It finally carves out the strategy that India must adopt to secure its national interests. Economic, military, and diplomatic engagements at both regional and global levels have been discussed in the article to arrive at the most suitable approach for India.Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QUAD), Built Back Better World initiative (B3W), and other bilateral and multilateral mechanisms emerge as democratic and just alternatives for India to participate.

High-Speed Rail Opening and Green Innovation—Evidence From China

Significant progress has been achieved in the construction of transportation infrastructure in China, where a high-speed rail network of considerable scale and high operational speed has been formed. Against the backdrop of China’s current keynote on “carbon peaking” and “carbon neutrality,” the high-speed rail as a modern, green mode of transport, has become a key force in promoting green technological innovation and maintaining sustainable economic development. This paper focuses on the relationship between the opening of high-speed rail and urban green innovation and the mechanisms behind it. This study utilized panel data on Chinese cities from 2000 to 2018, taking the opening of high-speed rail as a quasi-natural experiment. It focuses on the impact and mechanism of the opening of the high-speed railway on urban green innovation by using the double-difference space Durbin model. Findings indicate that high-speed rail plays a significant role in promoting urban green innovation and that the spatial spillover effect is substantial. The results of the heterogeneity test indicate that high-speed rail can enhance urban green innovation in non-resource-based cities. The impact mechanism of high-speed railways on urban green innovation mainly comes from the flow of innovative personnel and capital, a strategy of local governments to strengthen environmental regulations and improve regional advantages. This paper also indicates that high-speed rail has an inverted U-shaped trend in promoting urban green innovation, and the optimal radius is 200 km from the nucleus city.

The Impact Imposed by Brand Elements of Enterprises on the Purchase Intention of Consumers-With Experience Value Taken as the Intermediary Variable.

Against the backdrop of China's current dual-circulation paradigm, consumers have experienced the transition of their demands for products from price-driven needs to brand-driven needs. On the one hand, improving the value of consumer experience during brand building can enhance the exchanges and interactions between brands and consumers, facilitating the co-creation of value. On the other hand, the improvement of consumer experience can continuously strengthen the internal power of the construction of enterprise brand elements, and promote consumer-brand identity so as to constantly improve consumer purchase intention. In this study, we have taken consumers from the B2C market as the survey group while innovatively studying the impact imposed by brand elements on the purchase intention of consumers based on the experience value. In addition, we have established the theoretical framework of brand elements—experience value—consumers' purchase intention based on our analysis of the relationship between the aforementioned three factors. Through empirical research, we have elaborated on whether brand elements can improve consumers' purchase intention and whether the experience value can play an intermediary role. The research findings indicate that (1) the three dimensions of brand elements, namely, brand personality, brand value, and brand culture, can impose a significant positive impact on the purchase intention of consumers and experience value; (2) the specific parts of the experience value, namely, functional value, emotional value, social value, and service value, can impose a significant positive impact on the purchase intention of consumers; and (3) experience value can play an intermediary effect to some extent while brand elements influence the purchase intention of consumers.

Repression of Uyghur Muslims and the Freedom of Religious Beliefs in China

China has been accused by the international community for placing tight constraints on the religious freedom of Uyghurs in the northwest Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region (XUAR). It has been widely reported that China has placed in detention over a million Uyghur Muslims in order to ‘re-educate’ them to adapt to ‘Chinese culture’. It has been alleged that China is using a system of surveillance, control, and suppression of religious activity aimed particularly at Uyghurs accusing them of actively involving in separatist activity with foreign funding in order to destabilise the region. Note that, China has also brought in polices on regulation of religious affairs that makes it difficult for a religious body or a church, mosque to exist in China without prior State approval. The policy also gives unfettered power of oversight to the government over minority religious institutions and their day to day management. In light of the above, this article examines the issue of right to freedom of religion or belief in the backdrop of China’s treatment of Uyghur Muslims in the Xinjiang region. Further, this article also comments upon China’s current domestic policy regulating religion and its commitment at the international level to protect and promote freedom of religion or belief of all its citizens.

Desiring Wanghuang: Live Streaming, Porn Consumption and Acts of Citizenship among Gay Men in Digital China

This paper investigates Chinese gay men’s consumption of domestic pornography on international social network platforms following the country’s anti-porn campaigns targeting live streaming. Set against the backdrop of China’s illiberal digital landscape characterized by rapid platformization and evolving Internet governance, the paper draws on in-depth interviews with twenty-one Chinese young gay men to explore how they take advantage of digital platforms and algorithms to creatively and resiliently carve out a space for expressing same-sex desires in a precarious environment. It argues that, although these creative acts of sexual citizenship empower gay men in self-understanding and community-building, they are also critically limited by China’s intertwining neoliberal and illiberal cultures.

Can green industrial policy promote green innovation in heavily polluting enterprises? Evidence from China

Although synergies of economic and environmental development are a central global concern, there has been limited empirical research on the effectiveness of green industrial policy at the enterprise level in developing countries. This article demonstrates the impact of China’s green industrial policy on green innovation based on evidence related to Chinese listed companies in heavily polluting industries against the backdrop of China’s Five-Year Plans context from 2011 to 2020. It finds that green industrial policy promotes green innovation among enterprises through the mediating roles of government subsidies and bank loans. Notably, this effect is more significant for enterprises that are state-owned and located in Eastern China. The findings offer guidance for developing countries on how to implement green industrial policy to stimulate green innovation.

Ethnicity is in the blood, not in the language: exploring Korean-Chinese bilingual families’ multilingual planning

ABSTRACT This study aims to explore how ethnic identity, linguistic ideology, and family capital work in interaction in shaping Korean-Chinese migrant families’ multilingual planning against the backdrop of China’s rapid urbanisation and internal migration. A model of investment (Darvin and Norton [2015]. “Identity and a Model of Investment in Applied Linguistics.” Annual Review of Applied Linguistics 35: 36–56) was drawn upon. Data were collected via a questionnaire survey on 30 Korean-Chinese bilingual families in Shanghai, and semi-structured interviews and home visits with six focal families over a period of four months. The findings revealed a shift to Chinese and English and a suspension of Korean learning in the families. It was shown that the bilingual parents reconstructed their ethnic identity through linguistic socialisation, acquired hierarchical language ideologies, and made differentiated use of family capital. Moreover, when facing ideological conflicts and structural constraints, these parents attempted to sever the assumed link between language and ethnic identity, claiming that ethnicity is in the blood but not in the language. They made family language investment decisions guided by imagined identities they had for their children. The study contributes to the body of FLP research by eliciting a more nuanced understanding of how identity mediates the investment of different forms of family capital in different languages.

How does rising housing price affect the health of middle-aged and elderly people? The complementary mediators of social status seeking and competitive saving motive.

Under the backdrop of China’s aging population and continuous rising housing price and base on theories pertaining to social status seeking, marriage matching and intergenerational family relationships, use the 2010 and 2014 CFPS national survey micro data, we examine the impact of rising housing price on the health of middle-aged and elderly people and the underlying mechanisms. Rising housing price has a significant negative impact on the health of middle-aged and elderly people, and this effect is also reflected in their physical health, mental acuity and emotional well-being. The internal mechanism is that social status seeking motivation plays a significant mediator role. Through further analysis, we find that competitive saving motive is another intermediate mechanism that causes rising housing price to affect the health of middle-aged and elderly people; it is complementary to the social status seeking motivation. What’s more, the mediation effect of the competitive saving motive is notably heterogeneous, as it exists only for middle-aged and elderly people with male or noncollege educated child but does not exist for those with female or college educated child.

Is enterprise environmental protection investment responsibility or rent-seeking? Chinese evidence

AbstractHaving enterprises engaged in environmentally friendly behavior is an important part of reducing negative environmental impacts. This study makes a quantitative analysis against the backdrop of China's transitional economic system. The results show that politically-connected enterprises significantly reduce environmental expenditure, but this only holds for state-owned enterprises; private enterprises with political connections spend significantly more. Analysis of the efficiency of environmental expenditure indicates that, for private enterprises, environmental spending is used as a way to maintain political connections, with rent-seeking as the likely motivation. Politically-connected private enterprises have not reduced their emissions to the same extent as state-owned enterprises, despite increased expenditure. Given the scale of environmental degradation in China during a period of massive economic and social upheaval, the results of this analysis provide a quantitative case for policy change: governments should shift focus to the results that environmental spending produces.

The sounds of modernity in Chinese pop music

In 1940 the Chinese hit "Rose, Rose, I Love You" was released by Pathe Records in Shanghai and subsequently remade into numerous cover songs outside China. That a locally produced song could catapult onto the world stage was as much an endorsement of the music as it was a result of western orientalism. By all musical standards, this song was western style; the song’s only reference to China being the title “China Rose” or its phonetic equivalent “May Kway.” Its international popularity reinforced western perceptions that Chinese pop music is derivative of Western norms, a notion that still persists. This paper calls those assumptions into question by exploring musical developments in the post-Mao era. In contrast to music of the earlier Shanghai era, the rock band Ershou meigui [Second-Hand Rose] localizes elements of Western rock music. Formed in the early 2000s, Ershou meigui has been praised for its unique brand of “national” (minzu) rock style in which the band privileges Chinese regional musical elements. This paper explores issues of modernity, individuality, agency, creativity, cosmopolitanism, and performativity against the backdrop of China’s emergence as a modern nation and global force. What is the nature of Chinese modernity and musical creativity? How does this new hybridized form become a resource that enables musicians to construct, shape, and imagine meanings for post-socialist China? How do musicians reposition themselves in the age of Chinese consumption and cosmopolitanism? Most importantly, I investigate how pop musicians mediate the dynamic relationship between fast-changing China and the world around them.
