N-(Pyridylmethyl)azinium Salts: Precursors of Pyridyl-stabilised Azinium N-Ylides

A series of new N-(pyridylmethyl)azinium salts have been synthesized from 2, 4, 6-triphenylpyrylium tetrafluoroborate. Generation of azinium N-ylides in the presence of base, has been proved by reactions with electrophiles, such as carbon disulphide, phenyl isothiocyanate and with acetylene dipolarophiles.

Regioselectivity in the reaction of azinium salts and ylides with tetracyanoethylene

The reactions of pyridinium, picolinium, and quinolinium salts and ylides with tetracyanoethylene have been found to be regioselective. Reaction of azinium salts with tetracyanoethylene in aqueous methanol affords azinium tricyanoethylenolates, but pyridinium ylides react differently, with the highly stereo-selective formation of the Z-isomers of 3-aroyl-3-(R-1-pyridinio)-1,1,2-tricyano-2-propen-1-ides, which are 1,4-ylides with maximum charge separation.

AbstractReaction of the N‐phenacylpyridinium iodides (I) with carbon disulfide (II) and methyl iodide (III) gives the ylides (IV) which are cleaved on treatment with hydroiodic or tetrafluoroboric acid (V), producing the dithioesters (VI).

Preparation and properties of azinium salts of the 2-pyrazoline series

Azinium salts containing pyrazoline fragments have been obtained by the reaction of 2-pyrazolines with aromatic and heteroaromatic aldehydes, acetylacetone, and acetoacetic ester in the presence of H2SnCl5 and HBF4. Reactions of nucleophilic addition to the multiple bonds and also some cycloaddition reactions among the arylidene derivative have been studied. From the azinium salts of a series of β-dicarbonyl compounds have been obtained previously unknown enamino carbonyl compounds of the 2-pyrazoline series.
